ISync issues

Receive constant error messages " The application SyncServer has quit unexpectedly". It prompts me to choose - Ignore, Report or Relaunch. I have ignored and reported, but "launch" does nothing. When I spotlight for iSync, I get a the message "iSync May be disabled of not installed". I cannot locate any iSync icons, anywhere. I have never used iSync. Do not have iPhone and do not sync iPods. The Sync tab on my MobileMe is grayed out. I cannot locate iSync for download on Apple website. Help!

iSync is a standard part of every Mac OS X installation. It is stored in the main Applications folder and has an icon like the one under my name to the left.
If you can't find it on your computer, you must've deleted it somehow, as it is installed by default.
You'll have to get it back by following my instructions here:

  • Minor iSync Issues with RAZR V3

    Hi,
New to cell phones and iSync.
For reasons I have yet to figure out, sometimes when I add a new contact to my Mac Address Book and later iSync it to the phone the phone will end up with two entries. For example, I recently added the Hinsdale Police with but one phone number and on the phone I have Hinsdale Police and Hinsdale W Police (presume W for work, as I sometimes have seen H for likely home).
Now I did define them on the Mac as a company and at first put them in with a name following below, but that seemed to not show up on the phone, so I erased the name and iSynced again and then there were the two.
I confess that I have also been trying OnSync due to these iSync issues, but in this case I don't think I ever opened it.
    Clues welcome.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Bluetooth

What version of V3 do you have exactly?
I think you should file a bug to Apple so they can further analyze that... I am not sure it will be easy to understand... (you're totally sure there were not 2 phone numbers or one phone number and one email for that contact and you ended up with the same exact entry (name + phone number) on your phone?)

  • ISync can't be launched on this computer

This is almost a follow on from my first post raised on 24th Dec 2010, and may shed more light on the iSync issue - there's some great mac-minds reading these; I'm not really one of them, so some basic guidance would be ideal, for someone to nail the problem would be perfect.
    1. every day or so, I get a warning message stating that the syncserver has unexpectedly quit, with option to cancel, relaunch, report to apple - this has been happening for a few weeks. Never gave it a second thought, not really sure when or why it started
    2. now an iPhone4 owner, I'm wanting to sync between MacBook and phone, but when i plug the iPhone in i get "iTunes can not sync information with the iPhone as syncing has been disabled on this computer. Do you want to enable syncing?" Clearly I select 'yes', but get the warning "synching cannot be enabled on this computer" with an 'ok' or 'override'. When I click override, iTunes goes through the 5 stages of synching and has successfully loaded apps & music. Fine, but I want to sync contacts, calenders, bookmarks etc, so I select these options on iTunes and click 'apply'.... I get the same "iTunes can not sync...." followed by the 'override' option. iTunes then goes to a 1-step sync process and freezes, displaying "iTunes could not sync info to the iPhone because a sync session could not be started" From here I can only click 'OK', with the final status in iTunes suggesting sync is complete and OK to disconnect. -- none of the sync requests have begun.
    3. I'm getting a **** of a lot of freezing / colour swirl lately - all applications seem impacted and switching between applications can be arduous - could this be linked?
    Thanks all
    Ben

I received the instruction from APPLE EXPRESS SUPPORT to insert this in Terminal:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl reset
I did so and had this result:
2011-01-21 17:01:51.096 perl[345:807] SyncServer is unavailable: exception when connecting: connection went invalid while waiting for a reply
PerlObjCBridge: NSException raised while sending resetSyncData to NSObject object
    name: "ISyncServerUnavailableException"
reason: "Can't connect to the sync server: NSInvalidReceivePortException: connection went invalid while waiting for a reply ((null))"
    userInfo: ""
    location: "/System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsy nc.pl line 38"
** PerlObjCBridge: dying due to NSException
Sync STILL DOES NOT WORK. Apple express said the mobile.me account handles this separately and does not use isync - but I am still in the same quandry - no syncing. What a pain. I keep looking and will post anything I find.

  • ISync no longer works with MacBook

I imported all data from my old Powerbook G4 into my new Intel MacBook 2.16 bu iSync no longer works with my phones. It starts the process then stops abut halfway through with an error message. I have tried all the solutions proposed in the discussion but the problem remains the same.

Fortunately Sony Ericsson phones are my particular area of expertise!
This is more than likely caused by some corruption in either one of your Contacts or one of your Calendars.
I have made a web-page with step-by-step instructions to go through to determine the cause of sync errors, and then what to do to resolve them:
    http://mobile.feisar.com/isync_tips.html
That page usually solves 99% of iSync issues.
NB. I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, if the Google Ads on the above linked page are clicked upon.

  • ISync will not start with error "Could not retrieve .Mac config"

iSync fails when run from .Mac System Preferences with message
"There was a problem with the sync operation
    Could not retrieve .Mac configuration."
However, Backup and iDisk access are successfull.
    Dual G5 Etc.   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

iSync does not run from a System Preferences pane, but .Mac Sync does.
This is actually a .Mac Sync issue, not an iSync issue. Since the release of Mac OS X 10.4 about 19 months ago, the synchronization of selected content to and through .Mac has been the responsibility of .Mac Sync. You may want to post you query here, instead:

  • Do I use iSync with iPhone and iTunes?

I am a fairly new iPhone user and am having some syncing problems. I sync my iPhone to iTunes via a USB cable. On about every other sync, the contacts seem to hang and take a long time to complete (although eventually they do). During this time, the iSync icon on the menu bar spins and if I put my cursor over it the top line says "Canceling Sync".
I do not use MobileMe or Bluetooth to sync. I am trying to understand if I even need iSync activated? I went into the iSync preferences an unchecked the box that says Enable Syncing on this Computer but then it seems that nothing syncs over USB. But I've seen other posts that imply that you only use iSync for MobileMe, or Bluetooth or a phone that supports it (not an iPhone).
Can someone give me some direction on this. I'm thinking my contact ync issue is somehow related to this iSync issue but I can't be sure at this point.
    Thanks,
    David

The iSync application is only used for syncing non-Apple mobile phones, however, syncing for the computer does have to be anabled in iSync's preferences.
You can't sync the iPhone over Bluetooth or using iSync. You either use MobileMe for over the air syncing, or iTunes for USB syncing.
I would suggest posting in one of the iPhone specific forums here:

  • ISync/Palm HotSync replaces w/old data

Hey. This may be better suited for Palm support because it doesn't really seem like an iSync issue, but I use iSync/e2sync to Sync my Palm-based phone (Samsung i500...R.I.P). I have been having an ongoing issue that if I don't sync almost daily, that if it has been, say a week or so, since my last sync, Hotsync overwrites all of my data with OLD data and reinstalls all my programs. VERY frustrating. It never did this before Tiger and DOESN'T do this on my work laptop when I Sync. At work I just use Hotsync with an Entourage Conduit for my Entourage data. This machine does NOT have Tiger installed. At home, where Tiger IS installed and where this strange overwriting is happening, I bought e2sync hoping that would mix this overwriting problem. I checked "do nothing" for "backup" in Hotsync Conduit Manager and it is still overwriting if it has been a while since my last sync. Is there ANY explanation for the overwriting?

NO, I am not using .Mac for anything.
NO, my intention is not transfer the data between the two computers using my device as a "transport device".
My intention is to have all my contacts and calendars on my device populated with information from my home and work computers. This is a problem that existed BEFORE I syncronized my device with two different computers. When I do sync and information conflicts it (iSync) warns me and asks me what to do. The overwrite problem is NOT coming from iSync it seems to be a Hotsync issue that may or may not be caused by TIger.

  • ISync no longer connecting after security update

I’ve got a Razr that I have synced with my Powerbook. Never had a problem syncing with it until now. Only thing that’s changed is I recently installed the new security update. Now it fails to connect. Bluetooth is still working on the powerbook as it connects to my wireless keyboard. and I know the phone’s bluetooth is working as it is still connecting to my wireless hands free device.
I tried deleting the phone as a device and re-adding it but when I attempt to pair it, I get an error message saying it can’t connect. Any idea what might be up here?

additional piece of info. When I deleted the phone, I deleted it as a device in iSync. I went into sys preferences/bluetooth and deleted it there, then re-paired it, setting it up as a new device. That worked, the phone prompted me to allow the pairing, I entered the passcode, all was good. But when I went back to iSync to add it as a device, it doesn’t see it.
Do we have an iSync issue with this latest security update?

  • Palm Tree 755p + iSync/Missing Sync for Palm/iSync Conduit 1.2

I'm lost! Being stuck with a new Palm Treo 755p instead of the iPhone until my contract runs out. How do I get my Treo to sync with my Mac? There's iSync, iSync Conduit 1.2 and even Missing Sync for Palm. I'm willing to pay anything just to get things to sync with the Treo & iBook. But, after reading anything and everything I can find even on Discussions ... I'm more confused than ever.
Can anyone tell me what the real difference is between Missing Sync for Palm vs. iSync & iSync Conduit 1.2?
If I had that rebate check from uncle Sam maybe I'd go out and pay off Sprint to get out of my 2 year contract and then buy an iPhone, LOL. Oh, that's right we don't get the check until summer
    Any help is appreciated.

OK, I finally broke down and purchased "Missing Sync," after waiting for Apple to fix this problem. I'm sorry to say that "Missing Sync" does NOT solve this issue completely. It will sync the Address book, but will NOT work with iCal.
Apparently, "Mark/Space" (the makers of "Missing Sync") are aware of the problems, have identified the problem as Apple's, and reported it to Apple. Here are some of the issues noted on the "Mark/Space" web-page...
"This article describes situations under which The Missing Sync may report errors or perfomance issues. One error message is specific to iCal (part of Apple's Mac OS X operating system) and describes errors from iCal that are affecting the ability of The Missing Sync from performing sync functions properly."
"In certain situations, The Missing Sync reports an error message titled 'iCal Sync Errors'. This error is often caused when iCal is attempting to share data with Sync Services. Although this error has little to do with handheld devices, it affects the ability to sync data to or from those devices as Sync Services functions are compromised."
"THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO APPLE, INC. BY MARK/SPACE."
"Errors that are not reported in The Missing Sync log may be found in the Console.log file."
"Here are some of the error messages you may see in the Console:
    iSDSqliteRecordMapper
    SQLite locking issue
    iSynceConcreteSession
    NSInvalidArgumentException
    ICalExternalSync
    ISyncInvalidRecordException
These error are generated by Sync Services and reported to The Missing Sync."
So, for those of you hoping that "Missing Sync" will solve the problems we are having with various hand-helds, and/or cell phones, it doesn't completely. I am a huge fan of Mark/Space's "The Missing Sync" and have used it many times throughout the years. It's a great piece of software that does a whole lot more than iSync ever has, but it does NOT solve all of the problems that are being reported all over this forum in regards to iSync issues and hand-helds/cell phones.

  • Lost all preferences after isync

urgent.. need help. I purchased a MBP laptop and synced w/ .mac successfully. Then I synced my iMac flat panel and lost all my user preferences (dock, home folder, pictures, everything) as if i created a new user account. Last resort, please help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
This isn't an iSync issue, it's one involving .Mac Sync. You will find a forum for that technology located here:

  • Hundreds of calendars, Hundreds of contacts, all the same...

    Hi all-
It doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes I'll get a message saying that iSync wants to update my calendar with thousands of calendar entries, or hundreds of contacts, and it turns out, when I open iCal or Address Book, that all the calendars/entries have been duplicated! Sometimes many many many times (I had to delete the "Phases of the Moon" calendar a hundred times!).
I have several Macs that I keep in sync with iSync/MobileMe and I don't know if one of the machines goes berserk or what, but what is really troubling is that I can't figure out how to, when the dreaded "...will change more than 5% of your calendars" message appears, to tell it "NO! Don't do it!", and to basically refuse the change, and then turn around and re-push the "good" list.
This isn't limited to MobileMe calendars either, which is why I thought it was more of an iSync issue. Basically, can I prevent this from happening?

iSync's only purpose is for syncing contacts and calendars to non-Apple mobile phones via a USB or Bluetooth connection. If you are not doing that, then you aren't using iSync as it doesn't sync anything between Macs.
    See here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2484
(There's a couple of system-wide sync settings in iSync preferences which are also in the MobileMe system preferences pane).
I'd suggest posting in the MobileMe forums which start here:

  • Anyone figured out how to run iCal completely invisible?

Has anyone figured out how to run iCal completely invisible on Snow Leopard -- not just minimized on the dock, but completely hidden.  The goal is to be able to press Comamnd+Tab and NOT see iCal.

I too have a KRZR K1M that I received two days ago as a "gift' from Verizon in exchange for renewing my contract for 2 years. I had a RAZR that I had been able to sync with iCal after I edited the metaclass.plist file for that phone. I would then have to delete and re-add the RAZR each time I resynched in order to select the option I wanted from the iSync dialog window. If I "merge[d] data," the calendars on both my mac and my phone would fill quickly with duplicate entries. As for the KRZR, i have tried several times to add and sync this phone to the mac. It worked only once, and I was able to get the mac to write a years worth of events into the phone, but no matter what i do, i have not been able to repeat the process for my ical events. I use the VZW backup assistant for my contacts, just to be safe. I would like very much for Verizon and Apple to get together on the iSync issue. Verizon tech support told me only moments ago that the only phone they offer that will sunc with iCal is either a Treo or a Blackberry. And they aren't handing out either of them for free any time soon.

  • Best phone for Sync-ing with iCal?

I'm due to upgrade my mobile and wondered which is the best available handset for Sync-ing with a mac. At present I have the Sony Ericson K750i which was working fine up until I upgraded to Tiger.
    Any ideas?

Has anybody had any experience syncing the Motorola
    KRZR with iCal?
I own a Motorola KRZR K1m (Sprint), which is supposedly supported by iSync 2.4. This seems to be a troublesome phone in regard to compatibility with iSync. If you read the iSync discussions, you will see many problems. Those that do get iSync to accept the KRZR as "supported" seem to still have problems with iCal in particular. Evidently, there are some system hacks available to force the sync to work with iCal. If you are not comfortable with getting inside files and re-writing code, then you may not be a happy camper.
Naturally, if you have access to a Windows machine, you will have no problem. (... Getting ready to duck, since that last statement will draw out all the Apple apologists and Apple-employee-wannabes ...)
Personally, I have had no success getting iSync to recognize my KRZR at all. While I can transfer files via bluetooth, the iSync issues make me wish I had some other phone. In fact, the iSync/KRZR issues are probably going to lead me to change to another (known to be supported) phone. Since I'm stuck with Sprint, that won't be easy.
    Good luck!

  • Safari bookmarks not synching. help please...

    HI
I've spent ages reorganising my safari bookmarks on my macbook, however they are not uploading to icloud and therefore not synching with my ipad.
I've turned off the bookmark synching on the ipad and turned it on again, but I just get the same few bookmarks that I had before, not the ones from my macbook.
    can anyone help?
    thanks

This is a .Mac Sync issue, not an iSync issue. Try asking in the .Mac Sync forum.
