ISync no longer allows address book selection after MobileMe setup

Hi - I have a problem with iSync ever since I set up my MobileMe account.
I keep my contacts and my partners contacts in the same address book and separate them using groups. Then I synchronise my contacts with my Blackberry Pearl using PocketMac and her contacts with her Nokia using iSync. This was all working fine because the sync packages were allowing me to select the address book groups appropriately for each device.
Now I've signed up for a MobileMe account and iSync no longer lets me select the group I want to synchronise with the Nokia. Am I missing something really obvious or does MobileMe assume that you want all contacts to be synchronised with all devices?

Tried the advice in this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4240043#4240043
But it did not work.

  • IPhone 4 no longer syncing Address Book contacts w/laptop

For some reason, my iPhone 4 is no longer updating my contact list when I add new names/info to Address Book on my MacBook Pro. I've checked the settings on my phone as well as in iTunes, and it should be syncing (and always has done so before), but it's not. I even tried replacing all my iPhone contacts with the list on my laptop via the iTunes "Advanced" menu option, but this didn't help...
I'm not sure exactly when this started happening, but I did have trouble when I tried to install the 10.7.3 update to Lion and had to reinstall OSX. (Also, my laptop is relatively new--bought it about a month ago.)
    Any suggestions?

This has also happened to me, though it was after synching to my 3G iPhone as opposed to MobileMe (which I don't have).
What's more, in iTunes Prefs I've selected "place new contacts created on this iPhone in the group 'new from iPhone'", and I just saw that of the 968 contacts in my Address Book, a good...613 are under the 'new from iPhone' group which is absolutely false!
I most decidedly did not create all those 613 contacts on my iPhone, in fact just about all 613 of them had been previously synched from my Mac to my iPhone.
Clearly there's some sort of bug here - whether MobileMe or iPhone via iTunes, since both involve iSync from what I had read elsewhere at these forums.
I'm going to submit this to the Apple iPhone feedback page here, and would suggest your submitting your feedback to Apple MobileMe here.

  • Why is there missing info in the windows address book fields after syncing iphone 4 contacts?

I am reaching the end of my rope trying to deal with syncing/backing up contacts and other "non copyright protected" content from my iphone 4 and my desktop (and preferably my laptop as well).  I've spent literally days trying to solve this problem with ultimately no solution.  So, cutting through my MULTIPLE issues and focusing on one primary I need help backing up my contacts from my iphone 4 to ANY computer.  Here is what I am working with:
A relatively ancient (5yrs) Window XP desktop with virtually no contacts in Windows Address Book and with only the native Outlook Express on it.
An iphone 4 ios 4.3.1 that was initially and is still setup/synced with the above XP box (minus checking the sync contacts box).
An iphone 4 contact list that is primarily populated by about 200 contacts transfered from an old ATT SIM from the previous ancient phone.
A new Windows 7 laptop that I would love, love, love to use in conjuction with the XP for syncing/backing up not protected, personal data and iphone purchases.
So, with that in mind I have been syncing my phone with the XP w. the "manual manage music..." box checked and all other syncing options other than apps unchecked.  I wanted to backup by contacts for emergency recovery and to allow sycncing for the increasing business contacts.  Should be easy right?  Not so much.  I tried clicking the "sync contacts w/ windows address book" option and then synced.  I go to WAB and the contact list is there.  However, if I look w/in each contact the fields are not filled in.  If it was a contact that had name, number, address on my phone the WAB version has the name listing but nothing in the number/addy fields.  Now, this is true w/ virtually every contact and most were from that SIM transfer.  HOWEVER, contacts that I added ON the iphone (ie manually w/ the phone) DO have complete information.
So, what do I do to make an actual, complete backup of all the contacts on my iphone w/o having to manually reinput all of the real information??  I'm frankly terrified that in trying multiple solutions I will lose all my phone contacts which at this point in my life would be absolutely devistating (ie I would probably lose my job).  If it is a matter of newer hard/software I would gladly sync to the new Win 7 laptop instead but there I run into the other aggrivation of apple making it so bloody difficult to use one ios device with more than one personal computer.  I'm dumbfounded and frustrated on soooooo many levels and would send countless good vibes to anyone who can help!   Advice?  Solutions?  I'd promise my first born but who wants that these days...?  Help, please! ;-)
BTW, sorry for the long wind but I'll add on my "optimal solution" if anyone is feeling especially helpful and has an answer:
I'd like to be able to plug my iphone into both my XP desktop and my Win 7 laptop and sync/backup to both freely (that is after all the real intent of syncing, non?)  I don't care about music, videos, or other protected content.  I manage that manually and frankly, I can do without having on the iphone as long as I can accomplish being able to sync/backup/restore all the iphone stuff like apps, settings, personal info, and contacts to both the desktop and the laptop.  The purpose is that I need to be able to use and recover everything (on the road or at home) if either my laptop or my iphone dies/disappears.  But, understanding impermanence as it relates to portable devices, I want a solid backup of everything at home waiting on my desktop.  Is that really too much to ask apple???

Seriously folks?  I know it was long but I added all info to negate a need for endless back/forth clarifications.  No answers???
FYI, i tried syncing contacts to google/gmail and it was a total clusterF as well.  No gmail contacts, synced iphone, gmail contacts populated w/ all info but w/lots of repeat entries.  Used seek and merge repeats in gmail and then resync but no such luck.  Lots of iterations and nothing but fails.  Seems everytime the phone and the gmail lists are "as desired" a new sync puts a ton of repeats back into gmail or onto phone.  Still perplexed and still needing help....
    pretty please....

  • Installed Mavericks and now the contact app no longer allows addressed to be copied, dragged or any mode of movement to the email.

I installed Mavericks this morning.  When using email within Mac I use the contact list and double click on a
list.  Today, I can no longer use that.  The addresses do not move.  I tried the icon on the task bar.
    That is essentially the same.
What good is the address book if it will not allow the addresses to be accessed.  Other than typing
the first letter of each person I am mailing to.  That's just ridiculous.
Also when I go on the internet, I lose one quarter of the page to needless book marks, or reading lest or shared links.
They used to be on the task bar, out of sight.  Now I have to have one big blob removed from my viewing screen.
All this after 5 minutes of Mavericks.  I am thinking of going back to Moutain Lion if I can.

I am frustrated by the same problem. I have been using OSx since the beginning. And, all that time, through every interation, by double-clicking on an entry in the Address panel, I was able to bring up a new mail compose window and have the address entered in the To: line.
No more. In Mavericks a new compose window does indeed come up when an address is double-clicked, but the adress does not get entered on the "To" line. I have to click the "To" button (on the address panel), an extra operation.
If someone knows how to restore the original sleek functionality of having the address moved, please tell me.

  • Address Book–select one contact & copy?

What's a quick & one-step way to select a contact's name, company and address, copy them, thereby allowing paste into another application or document?

Well this still not working. I've checked the "sync automatically" with MobileMe, and now it starts syncing suddenly, as expected when the system thinks something has changed and needs to be updated. Let's say, after adding a new contact in my iPhone. That works flawlessly, from iPhone to MobileMe.
That would be great, if only it worked from MobileMe to my Mac. Again, "sycing contacts" takes forever, and in the end, any new contacts in my iPhone and MobileMe don't appear in Address Book in my Mac, and disappear from MobileMe, since that contact was not in my Mac at the time of "syncing". It's one way only, and one would think it would be easy to set this up correctly.
And still, after more than 30 minutes "syncing" contacts, it says the contact data "never synchronized".
    Please, any suggestions?

  • Address Book missing after reboot

I done a complete reboot sometime ago of my iMac with transferring all of my archived files back to the computer.
Some reason my Address Book didn't transferred. Not sure if I've lost it complete through the archive process or if I'm not able to transfer it properly.
Anyone experienced this before? Any advise will be helpful. I've got so many contacts that I don't want to lose.
    Cheers

Did you use the Archive and Install method with the option to preserve User and internet settings? Or did you do a Clean and Install which would lose all of your personal files.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in the library rebuild pane, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • CAN NO LONGER OPEN ADDRESS BOOK

Hi.  I am using an iMac OS X version 10.5.8 with Intel Core 2 Duo that checks for updates weekly.  As of a week and a half ago, I am no longer able to open my address book in the finder view (it is grayed out with a circle & slash through it).  The pop up window says, "You can't open the application "Address Book" because it is not supported on this architecture."  I have no clue as to what update went through to cause this, I just tried accessing the address book one day and couldn't.  Any body else have this?  Any suggestions to fix would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

That's the problem.  You probably picked the Application installer for another Mac.  Only the installer discs that came with a Mac and newer retail installers up to the limit of the hardware can be used with the Mac.  Macs that shipped new after July 20, 2011 did not come with installer CDs, and have a special restore partition.   Upon receiving such a Mac, cloning is the best way to ensure that if the hard drive dies, you can still restore such a system.  See my FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Retail installers which could be used on Intel Macs based on age looked like:
    for 10.5
    for 10.6
and a special Flash drive is available for 10.7.
For more on upgrading to each one, see my series of user tips starting with this one.
If you can't find the original installer discs that came with the Mac, call AppleCare or the person who sold you the Mac.
http://www.charlessoft.com/ software called Pacifist can install the correct Addressbook from the correct installer disc for your currently installed operating system without having to reinstall everything.   Applying the combo update from the correct link here*
    http://www.macmaps.com/jaguarleopard.html
to where you currently are will ensure that software is the most current for that operating system.  So apply the 10.5.8 combo once extracting the correct 10.5 Addressbook to keep current for 10.5.8.

  • Lost my Address Book contacts after a security update?

I am using OS X 10.4.7 and did a security update last night. Now I also have a Nokia E61 and since this morning I have lost all my contact in my address book on the Mac ( a powerbook). Since I didn't play around with the mac nor the nokia I am thinking that it all got lost in the security update.
I checked my iSync logs and there it indicates that it deleted all contact from my phone right after I did the restart for the update...
Can anybody help me get my contacts back?
I do backups but since just got back from my vacation I didn't have the time yet ..
    Many thanks,
    Rolf

    To answer my own qq,
Well I found some of my important contacts in the trash . They were under a folder named "Recovered files". There where a few named that way so you had "Recovered files #1", "Recovered files #2", till #6. In one of them I found my contacts again, well atleas the ones that I added over the hollidays .
Hope this helps someone else aswell

  • Address Book Disappears After Opening

My address book flies up above the top of my screen when I open it. It will appear when I hit F3, but then it disappears again when I click on it to open the page.
I can move the application to different desktops, where I can see the very bottom of the window, but am unable to use the mouse to drag it down to where it can do me any good.
On a frustrating meter, it's probably a five-and-a-half, or six. It's been like this for several weeks, and I probably ought to get this figured out before too much longer.
My software all seems to be updated. I've force quit the application, rebooted the machine, and nothing seems to be giving me any satisfaction.
I thank you in advance for any help you can give me on this one.
    Peace,
    Paul

Well, as a place to start, I would recommend you go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utilities>select your Harddrive in the list at the left and run Repair Permissions twice.  If that doesn't solve it I would next reboot the computer while holding down the Command - R keys to boot into the Lion Repair Partition, and there select Utilites and run Disk Repair.  That may solve your problem.
    Hope this helps

  • ISync doesn't access Address Book (although it says it does) -PLEASE HELP!

    Fellow iSync users,
My iSync stopped working... calendars and to-do's work fine, but the contacts won't sync!
Odd: although it says it's "Refreshing", that does NOT seem to apply to the address book "groups" or contacts. I tried a lot of things, including resetting sync history, repairing, adding/removing device, trying USB instead of Bluetooth... and even deleting the following files:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iSync.plist
    contents of ~/Library/Phones
    contents of ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices
    contents of ~/Library/Application Support/SyncService
(I recently upgraded my Nokia's 6110 Navigator's firmware to 4.22, but that shouldn't matter, should it? Though it's an odd coincidence.)
    Thank you for your help!

Yes. Having problems too. I get the following message in the Hot Sync log:
    Loading “Apple”
    Conduit “iSync Conduit” version 3.0.0
    Sync type is Fast
iSync Conduit starting 02/10/06 1:02:03 pm
Setting Hello Response, type is PalmSyncTypeFast, language is 0 (BladeLanguageEnglish) 02/10/06 1:02:06 pm
iSync Conduit: received NULL message, disconnecting... 02/10/06 1:02:06 pm
Setting Hello Response, type is PalmSyncTypeFast, language is 0 (BladeLanguageEnglish) 02/10/06 1:02:06 pm
    OK iSync Conduit
I suspect the "NULL" message means the sync fails in one direction, but I am no expert. I've tried a soft reset on my TX without success. The only way I have sorted it out in the past is to do a hard reset, remove my <user name> file from /<User name>/Documents/Palm/Users/<user name> then do a hot sync, selecting my user name and then to add new applications one at a time, checking the HotSync log each time for error messages.
When I first got the TX I tried transferring data and applications from my Zire 71, but I think it was these old applications that were causing the problems. I have bought or obtained new versions of applications which are said to work with the TX and all was well until I tried to install the CardRules database for CardSuite 3.7.1 - and it's done it again.
Does anyone else have any thoughts please?
I don't know if this is an influence, but I am syncing two TXs to my one Mac.

  • ISync erased notes on Address Book

I have a MacBookPro, ussing Leopard ver.10.5.2., iSync ver 3.0, Sony Ericsson W810i.
In order to sync with my phone with my contacts, I created a new group in my Address Book named iSync (153 contacts), this is the one that I am syncing with my phone.
My contacts have in "notes" some information that exceds 48 characters. I have seen that the contacts that I sync with my phone have lost some information that exceded the 48 characters.
I have reviewed all configurations of iSync and cant find change that could improve this error.
    Any comments on this issue?....

When syncing to limited memory devices you have to keep the lengths of any fields below the limits imposed by the device's manufacturer to avoid this issue.
The Info field in Sony Ericsson phones is restricted to 50 characters. As long as you keep your Notes in Address Book less than 50 characters it will sync ok.
Because iSync knows this field is limited to 50 characters it only syncs the first 50 characters of the field to avoid errors occurring during syncing.
If, however, you make changes to a Contact on the phone, iSync will see the change and sync the whole Contact back to the Mac, including the truncated Info field.
iSync syncs whole Contacts at a time, it does not sync individual fields, so even though you may only have changed or added a phone number to the Contact, all the Contacts data will be synced back to the Mac.
There's no way around this, apart from keeping the lengths of the fields within the limits imposed by the phone.
You could try submitting Feedback to Apple on this issue, but I wouldn't hold your breath:

  • ISync syncs to wrong Address Book group

When I sync my phone (Nokia 3230) with my MacBook, I designate the Address Book group titled "Contacts in 3230" to be synced. But contacts that I've added to the phone (my usual way of adding new contacts) are transferred to my "All" contacts in Address Book, but NOT to the designated group. To correct this, I have to manually try to remember what contacts were added to the phone, and then copy them from "All" into the "Contacts in 3230" group.
How can I make iSync sync to the designated group?
    Many thanks for your advice.

I have the same problem with a Nokia 6230. Really annoying as i sync has now cluttered up my mac address book with phone contacts that i wanted in a specific group called 'nokia back up' Also I tried putting a test item in this folder and this did not download onto the phone. I don't want my phone filled with all of my contacts and i don't want my mac filled with all the temporary contacts that end up in a phone on a Friday night. All i want is to back up my phone to my mac in case i loose it. should be simple enough!

  • Problems with Apple Address Book Sync after upgrading BBDesktop s/w. Also, no more Rogers support - abandoned customer

I just upgraded my BB Desktop Software but now have a sync error - details show that over 800 entries need to be synced.
When I look at 'details', the 'before' shows a phone number field called "Main Fax" the 'after' shows a phone number field called "Other", with the same phone number targeted.
There are a handful of other syncs such as address blank in 'before' and completed in 'after.  I found these by just scrolling down the list with my down arrow and scanning the 'before' entries as they flew by.
There seems to be no way for me to manually choose which of the 'before' and 'after' I'd like to have.
Worst of all, I called Rogers for sync support, as I have done for years.  Guess what? They've stopped supporting anything but their actual network connections, but didn't bother to tell their customers.  There I was in a 'user down' situation, late for an appointment (missed it totally thanks to this), and they were telling me the most they can do is send an e-mail. or have me *pay* for the support that used to be free, selling me a 'premium support' package. Yikes!
So I clicked 'sync later' on the address book, and am looking for help before I try another sync tomorrow.
For example, ideas to help me manually over-ride the data field mapping from 'Main Fax' to 'Fax' in Blackberry Desktop Software.
Anyone have any ideas?  Much appreciated!
I live in Canada, by the way, so if you are a Rogers customer in Canada, take note of their change in support.

  • Mac address book blank after MS Office update

After using the stupid MS Office Updater on prompt, I find that all my contacts are missing from my Mac Address Book! I didn't even install Outlook but the stupid Updater did. My contacts aren't there though and sync is off.
I tried restoring the Address Book folder in the Library/Application support from Time Machine. Nothing.
I tried deleting the AddressBook-v22.abcddb file. Still nothing.
I tried deleting com.apple.AddressBook.plist. Nope. And the other prefs file, too.
I've tried these things several times, different sequence, restarting, yadayada.
I've been troubleshooting my own Mac's since the MacPlus and never been so stumped! I hate M$!
    Ran this in terminal:

ls: Library/Application: No such file or directory
ls: Support/AddressBook: No such file or directory

    (No such file or directory?!!!!)
I will appreciate some expert advice and direction here. Thanks!

Hi sig, Thanks for the reply.
My Address Book was fine before installing this update. The earliest TM I have? And lose all the work I've done on this machine?
I've seen reports that other people had their contacts moved from Address Book to Outlook after this update. So, it seems very likely. Either it's the Update or the PowerPoint I opened that prompted me to update had a virus!
Since I posted, I went to the Genuis Bar, where I surprisingly got lectured about recovery is not what they do, and they could spend only 15 minutes with a customer, spending most of the time on the lecture, ultimately refering me to an expert. He found corruption on my HD and told me to wipe the drive and restore from backup. Ughh.
However, I reran DU and repaired the disk, tested the hardware even. DU reports the disk is ok now.
    Yet, no Address Book.
Before I resort to wiping, I'm wondering if I could detect if I had a received a rare Mac virus...

  • Address Book crashing after upgrade to 10.7.2

Haven't been able to find anyone else experiencing this problem.
Since I updated to 10.7.2 Address Book hangs and closes about a minute after opening.
It doesn't seem to make a difference what action I am performing, if any.
I have tried deleting preference files. Still crashing.
Backed up all my contacts, deleted all the AB data, and started from scratch. Still crashing.
My main issue with this is that I'm trying to get my contacts syncing to iCloud.
No other issues with 10.7.2 update. All other iCloud services are working.
    Any ideas appreciated!

jamesfromns - Not sure what looking for duplicates would do for me since I have no duplicates. I backed up my contacts and am trying to get this to work with a fresh address book with a few test contacts.
EasyOSX - I had repaired permissions before I read your response, with no effect. So I tried reapplying the 10.7.2 update, and still no change.
When looking in Address Book preferences only the local account is shown. I can't add the iCloud account because is freezes and crashes before I can finish.
