Isync on lion 10.7.2 problem

Hi, I am trying to sync my mobile phone via isync on newest mac lion and there is a problem: there is only the option to sync 'all contacts'. I'd like only to sync one specific group in the adress book. Before the newest lion it was possible to chose a specific group. Why doesn't this work anymore? Please help. Have to get my contacts to my phone.
Thanks
Peter

As you probably know, iSync is not supported under Lion.
If you have enabled iCloud in 10.7.2 then you can no longer sync contacts with iSync unless you disable contact syncing in iCloud.

Since installing Mountain Lion i have a problem with Mail. I delete a number of messages from the same person but keep the newest message in my Inbox. I actually delete them from the Trash. The next time i open Mail the deleted messages are back again. Can anybody please help as this is getting annoying. Thanks in Anticipation.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.

  • I can't find iSync after lion install

I can't find iSync after lion install. I try too sync with my N8 Nokia. The program iSync dont appear in program mapp.

It's Apple's software not yours and as shown by it's exclusion on the OS X Lion pages is not part of the new OS. Upgrading to Lion is optional.
It's a trivial matter to copy it back from your Snow Leopard backup, but using it under Lion is not supported at all and WILL stop working sooner or later.
Why would it be sensible for Apple to include software in their new OS that they know will stop working?

  • 10.8.2 Mountain Lion Update Causes Major Problems

I'm running an early 2009 iMac and I made the jump to Mountain Lion about a month ago. Initial upate ran OK, I had some problems but overall it ran pretty decently. I held off on updating to 10.8.2 because I wanted to see if it caused any issues, but decided to go ahead about a week and a half ago. Since then, my computer has had daily problems. To name a few, my computer completely crashes when going into sleep mode and will not return, the sound frequently disappears and goes unrecognized. iTunes has been an utter disaster - I have an iPod classic, which as soon as I plug in causes iTunes to crash. I've had similar issues with my iPhone 4. Airplay drops regularly when I never had that issue prior. Homesharing in particular causes iTunes to crash, which was working infrequently as of just yesterday.
I've had quite a few issues, which over the past few weeks has rendered my iPod classic and old iPhone completely useless as I cannot sync them to put music on them (I restored iPod to see if that would fix it, but it didn't. So now I have an empty iPod that won't sync). And the workaround of using homeshare was viable as an alternative, but now does not work at all. Connecting to my Apple TV takes 5-10 times longer than it previously did, and the connection occasionally drops. I used all these features with a regularity which makes this extremely frustrating.
Not sure if Apple plans to fix this with iTunes 11 update, but I'm hoping something will come about soon. I called support to inquire about downgrading back to Snow Leopard, but the guy on the phone convinced me to reinstall the OS, which I did. It has not solved any of my issues (although I was finally able to update my iPhone 4 to the latest firmware, it will still not sync or do Homeshare). Any ideas how I could solve these problems? These all started happening the day I updated to 10.8.2 and, as I said, I hadn't experienced anything like them previously.

I have done that, several times.
So this is where I'm at now - last night, immediately after finishing a movie that was on my WD hard drive, which holds all of my media, music, movies - I restarted my computer and then it would not read the drive. It said it was unreadable.
I brought the Mac and the drive into an apple store today - they said basically it was my hard drive causing the issues. I used my iPod classic as my media back up as the 160 gb could hold all my stuff. Well, as I mentioned previously, that can't sync and I restored it, with no success. So in essence I lost my media drive and the back up. Tough to swallow, I'm angry, I think it's still mountain lion causing the drive to fail.
So I resolved to go home and restore my computer to one of my time machine back ups and do a Snow Leopard reinstall. Well, the moment I returned from the apple store, the time machine drive is now listed as unreadable. I called support, spent hours with them - I now have two drives which fried within 10 hours of each other in the same error. The senior support manager agreed it sounds like mountain lion is indeed corrupting my drives somehow. My iMac currently won't start into the recovery disk. So I went out spent $200 to get a new hard drive, which I am now backing up my data onto with a new Time machine.
In the last week, I've lost my iPod classic, iPhone 4, two external hard drives and now possibly even the Mac itself. I'm going to install snow leopard and see if it alleviates any of my issues, or hopefully can read my drives. I truly believe Mountain Lion is the problem.

  • Lion OS 10.7: Problem connecting to server

    Hi,
Ever since I upgraded to Lion yesterday morning, I keep getting these random pop up windows that say:
"There was a problem connecting to the server.  URLs with the type "file:" are not supported."
This seems to happen repeatedly and for no reason on the three different wi-fi locations I've been on in the last couple of days.  I doesn't seem to effect my actual connection though.  Just really annoying.
    Any ideas?

You might be right about Time Machine... I haven't done a backup since I installed lion last night.
Also, if that isn't it, I remember reading an article on TUAW about a few changes regarding NAS stuff in Lion:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2011/07/21/a-few-nasty-gotchas-in-lion/
maybe something wonky is going on with TM, Dropbox, iDisk or any other file sharing services.
I wonder why TM would act up in this way, as my backup drive is just a Firewire 800 drive, not a Time Capsule or NAS drive. hmm...
Anyways... Please post your results after the backup. Thanks!

  • Lion in App Store problem

    Hi!
I'm coming because I want to do a fresh intall of Lion. I have a Mac Mini mid-2011 and came with Lion instaled. Yes, I know, ML is coming, but right now I will going to wait to maybe 10,8,2.
Fine, the problem is, trying to download Lion, in the App Store the app say the price, not installed like the iLife bundle. I don't know how to download. I want to burn in a DVD or usb, because in my country the internet is not so stable (and the electrical service too , so I can't leave this in recovery).
What can I do? How I can download Lion from my Mac with Lion pre-installed? I need help
    Regards,
    Abel

You don't need to re download Lion to do a fresh install.
In order to reformat your Mac since it's already running v10.7 Lion, you need to use  Lion Recovery
Unfortunately, Lion Recovery requires broadband access to the Internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection.
If, you can re download Lion from the App Store, you could create an installation disc.
Instructions here > How to create an OS X Lion installation disc | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • Reinstall MacOS 10.7 Lion on Macbook A1181 Problem

    Hello,
I have an urgent problem to be solved, if you can do it, pretty please. I have received as payment, an old Macbook A1181, mid 2007, with 3gb RAM in plus of its basic configuration. It camed with Lion 10.7 on it, but full of old files, settings, and with a user account of the old owner. This night, JUST before I will give it as a gift further to my girlfriend, I wanted to erase it and restore it back to its factory settings. I saw a few films on youtube on how to do it without disk. I have read on Apple forum the instruction and everything looked easy. I started, and now at the  Reinstall Mac OS X step, after verification, it ask me for the credentials of Apple account who bought the Lion Upgrade. I called at the guy who gaved me the notebook to ask him if can do something about it, or just give me the credentials for few seconds. And his answer was that the Lion I had on the notebook wasnt official, it was just tooked from the internet and he doesnt know nothing about what can I do now.
My problem now is I have a Macbook stucked in the Mac OS X Utilities screen, and I dont know what to do. I would like to buy the upgrade, but I dont know if it works if the notebook still thinks I have Lion, and I just want to reinstall it. Also I have pressed option(ALT)+command+ R during boot, and I dont see the screen where I could buy the upgrade. In the app store on others PC I see i can buy it, but it comes in 1-3 days even if i just buy it online and i need it in my account to show as bought.
What can I do in this moment? How do I do a roll-back at least at an older version of OS X ? A fast and good answer will be very thanked. I am worried, and in a hurry. Thank you.

You’ve run into the one problem with the newer Operating Systems (10.7, 8, 9). They are tied to the users Apple ID and password so that no one else can re-download them. The older Operating Systems (10.6, 10.5) came on a DVD and could be used by anyone. Just pop in the DVD and erase the drive and reinstall.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion which is a download only.
For 10.7 Lion you can get a redemption code to use in the App Store here. You can get it for $19.99. http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion

  • APC UPS, Mountain Lion, and system restart problem

I have a Mac Pro (3,1) and it's been running Lion (10.7.x) for a long time. It's connected to an APC UPS XS 1500 via a USB cable for years. I've never had any problems with it.
Two weeks ago I updated to Mountain Lion (10.8.2). Since then I've returned to my machine to find that it had rebooted itself. After logging in, the system tells me that there was a problem and asks if I want to send the error report to Apple.
Yesterday, I tried unplugging the Mac Pro from the UPS, plugging it directly into a wall outlet, and disconnecting the USB-UPS cable. So far, I've had no problem with system restarts.
Has anyone had a similar problem? If so, did you solve it? How?
    Thank you.

Hi, macjack. Thanks for your response.
So far, with the MP plugged directly into a wall outlet I've had no system initiated reboots or shut-downs.
I looked in the console log and there's so much stuff in there, I'm simply lost. Are there one or two keywords I should search for that might help in debugging the problem?
    Again, thanks.

  • I just upgraded to OSX LION and have a problem with "hidden" files

Okay first please take it easy with me, This is my first iMac and I've had it only 3 days, Everything was working fine until i upgraded to OSX LION, Now I have a problem "Hidden" files on an external hard drive which were visible before the upgrade seem to have vanished.
Does anyone know what's happened - Did the upgrade delete them somehow (The drive was not connected during the process) or does LION simply hide "Hidden" files, I certainly hope that's the case because there were quite a few files annd I would hate to have lost them permanently.
Obviously if they are just hidden i would appreciate anyone telling me if\how I can see them again.
THANK YOU in advance for your help.

First WOW what a quick response, are Mac users always this quick to help each other out - Never got such a rapid response in all my PC using years.
Second it is an NTFS drive, Other non-hidden files are still there and still accessible it's just the "hidden" ones that have vanished. As I said this is my first ever Mac so I can't figure out how to unhide them if that is at all possible and if that is in fact what has happened here.

    Good moorning

It’s strange that I can start Time Machine and work on it but I can’t start any backup
the firmaware seems to be ok, I never had this problem before upgrade to lion, but I’m very  afraid because I’m going to buy a new Mac Book Air and I’ll ned Time caspule and its backups for starting data on the new machine
Who can help me? Tanks, Fiorini Giorgio

The coverage should be fine, since I get 4-reception-bars.
Sorry, I'm confused here. Is that what you "see" on your computer if the Express is powered down and you have your laptop at the location of the Express?
The "bars" are not a very accurate indicator of actual signal strength, and they tell you nothing about noise or other interference that you may be picking up in the new location.
I suggest that you download a utility like iStumber to get a more accurate picture of your network.
When you open iStumber, you'll see some general information about signal strength and noise on the network. You may be surprised to see that the signal is not as strong as you might have thought, but the most useful information is found under the Inspector in the Edit menu. Click Inspector.
Click the Samples tab and drag the lower right corner of the box out until you see the figures for Signal(dBm) and Noise (dBm). To get a SNR reading, or Signal to Noise Ratio, you would enter the Signal and subtract the Noise = SNR.
For example, lets say you see a signal of -60 dBm and noise of -90 dBm, so:
    -60 dBm - (-90 dBm) = 30 dBm SNR
Then use the chart below provided by forum expert Tesserax to analyze the SNR on your network at the given location of your laptop:
    o 40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
    o 25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
    o 15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
    o 10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
    o 5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
So, you would power down the AirPort Express temporarily and locate your laptop as close as possible to actual location of the AirPort Express and take some readings.
You would want to see a SNR reading of at least 25 dB at this location. Higher would be better because the Express can only "extend" what it receives. It does not "boost" the signal.
    Please post on your results.

  • Lion to Snow Leopard Problems

Ever since downgrading from Lion to Snow Leopard I have started experiencing problems concerning the EFI Firmware on my Early 2011 Macbook Pro. The startup bong is uncontrollable, blue screen when switching graphics cards and a change in resolution when logging out.
So I ask... Does upgrading Snow Leopard to Lion also upgrade or change the macbook pro's firmware?

OK, this is not "downgrade", this is new installation into new partition. Downgrade would mean that you started Snow Leopard and it reverts everything from Lion to Snow Leopard leaving intact all (or majority) installed applications, settings etc.

  • Final Cut Studio and Mountain Lion 10.6.8 Problems

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.6.8. on my Mac Pro (upgraded from Snow Leopard).
I now realise, looking at various forums that trying to run FCP7 on ML is not straightforward, or maybe not even possible!
I have found that after updating to ML, Final Cut Pro 7 (Studio 3) would appear to run pretty much fine, but the main problem is constant 'dropped frames' warnings when running HD ProRes projects. The frequency of these 'dropped frames' freezes (every few seconds!) makes FPC7 unuseable. These HD ProRes projects ran perfectly well under Snow Loepard. In fact FCP7 was totaly stable and reliable despite constant daily hammering.
There is a lot of good ideas and information on the forums, largely talking about FCP being incompatable because ML no longer supports Power PC type installers, but there doesn't seem to be very much overall agreement.
Now that ML has been around awhile, can anyone share any definite information about FCP7 working with ML? Apple themselves maybe?
I suppose it's my own fault for not doing my homework properly before trying ML. I rely on FCP7 for my work. So I'm going to spend today clean-installing my MacPro back to Snow Loepard and re-installing everything. Oh joy!
    John G

In reply to Maurice, yes, Mountain Lion is 10.8. In my post I mistakenly typed 10.6.8 which is Snow leopard.
For now I'm sticking to Snow Leopard. Did a ground-up reinstall and my FCP7 set-up runs perfectly again. Happy, happy!
If I had time (which I don't) it would be interesting to try a complete re-build of a Mac Pro with Mountain Lion, then install FCP7 and FCPX from scratch. I suspect that may work. Some people are saying they have no probs, but when I tried it as a upgrade (rather than a re-install) it was a mess.
Another problem with 10.8. was that my Blackmagic Intensity card would not output pictures from FCPX to my monitor, despite trying the latest drivers from BMD. This was my main reason for upgrading to Mountain Lion in the first place - I wanted to try out FCPX, but monitor output apparently only works with 10.7 onward.
Does anyone else have any experience with FCPX and Intensity cards?
