ISync, Oracle's CorporateTime & Mac OS X

Does anyone have experience syncing their Palm device (I use a Zire 31, Palm OS 5.2.8) with iCal 2.0.3, Oracle's CorporateTime 5.2.3, AND Missing Sync for Palm OS 5.1.0?
My system administrator's going to show me how to sync my Zire with CorpTime and iCal when he gets back from vacation. He's not familiar with Missing Sync though, so if the three don't work together I'd be glad to know that before he changes anything. (Workaround: it's possible for me to send myself iCal invites from CorpTime that I can sync with my Zire through iCal + Missing Sync)
From the bit of research that I've done, it looks like I'd have to use iSync and Palm Desktop--is that the only option? (Bottom Line: I've got iCal and Missing Sync working wonderfully, and I don't want to screw it up!)
Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo) Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm not sure why iSync and the Palm Desktop would be involved at all. The Missing Sync for Palm OS is a complete replacement for iSync and the HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor components of the Palm Desktop.
Launch iCal and meet your new best friend: the Back Up Database option under the File menu. Be sure you perform that task before letting this 'expert' anywhere near your calendaring data. At least that way, no matter what the outcome, you should be able to restore your calendars to pristine condition.
As it seems with just about all Oracle products, descriptions of this application are long on marketing hype and short on documentation. While attempting to install OraCalSync 9.0.4.2-X, the apparently current, Oracle-supplied installer for CorporateTime, I discovered that…
• the programmer responsible building this installer package should be flogged
• the installer window features graphics apparently rendered by a two-year old
• the package searches fruitlessly for a folder named HotSync Manager
That's a problem, as the Missing Sync for Palm OS installer removes most every trace of the HotSync Manager. I stopped it when I quit laughing after a few minutes, so I have no idea what occurs next - but I'm not hopeful.
This set of installation steps outlined by the Office of Information Technology at Notre Dame was not encouraging either: notice the requirement to use the now non-existent HotSync Manager option in the Palm Desktop to enable what is most likely a conduit embedded in the installer package, along with a Palm application to install during a HotSync session.
Here are the instructions:
http://oit.nd.edu/calendaring/palm-macos10.shtml
It also intimates that the installer places a special Oracle Calendar Address Conduit in the active Conduits folder which you then must interchange with the standard Palm Address conduit [or presumably the Mark/Space Contacts conduit] and offers instructions for configuring an installed .prc file on your Palm device. Yikes!
Nothing at all about calendars - just contacts. How scary is that? Installation of the .prc file results in the addition of a Configure Oracle Calendar application on your Palm which seems to resemble a web-link in the style of AvantGo. Here we go again - contacts or calendars? Maybe it's just me…
Maybe your best move is to submit a proactive electronic support request to Mark/Space asking them how to accommodate CorporateTime without hosing iCal, the Address Book or the Missing Sync for Palm OS. HINT: I'll save you some time here: there are no occurrences of Oracle, CorporateTime or Corporate Time in the Mark/Space Knowledge Base.
You can contact them here:

  • ISync 2.2 and Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update released: READ THIS before installing

Apple has released iSync 2.2 as part of the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update package, and it has serious ramifications for current or first-time users of iSync. READ this information below before you perform the installation. This information is extracted from Technical Information Library article 303419, found here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303419
iSync 2.2: Read before updating to Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later, or before first sync
iSync 2.2, included with the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update, works with many phones. However, if you have an existing phone that you sync with iSync in Mac OS X 10.4 through 10.4.5, there are some important steps you should follow before you update to Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later, as well as after you update.
Before you update to Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later
    1. Make sure that all of the contact and calendar data that you want to sync is on your computer.
    2. Perform a sync with your devices before upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.6 to make sure the information on your computer is up to date, and to resolve any conflicts between your devices and computer.
    3. If you have modified iSync or installed third-party software to support your specific model of phone, or if if iSync 2.2 specifically adds support for your specific model of phone, you should consider removing your phone from iSync, undoing these changes and uninstalling that software before upgrading. Your phone will not work with iSync after applying the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Software Update and your third party software will need to be updated.
Note: Reudo's Sync for Mac is not affected and does not need to be uninstalled prior to updating.
If you skip these steps, you will see this message after upgrading: "Plug-in for this phone model is missing. Install that phone's plug-in if you want iSync to support it."
    4. Make sure that your phone is configured to use its memory to store contacts instead of a SIM card. The steps on how to do this vary from phone to phone—consult your device's documentation for how to check its configuration, and if necessary how to change your phone to store contacts in its memory.
    5. Make sure your phone has the correct date and time set.
    6. Make sure that you have a current backup of your Address Book and iCal data.
Refer to the article for additional instructions and an illustrated example of the steps to perform before installing the update.

Can some one help me in installing oracle 10g in my mac os xlion.. I also need to know where can i download ORACLE 10g for mac ??

    Hi,
About installing Oracle 10g in OS X Lion, I think you may need to install in other platform such as LINUX. Because Oracle 10g R2 installer packages were removed from OTN site which it may end-of-support.

  • Oracle 10g on Mac OS X

So what do you think about Oracle releasing Oracle 10g on Mac OS X? Overall, I think it's a vote of confidence from Oracle's part on OS X's viability and potential in the enterprise. Especially since Oracle has also released their development tools for OS X as well.
    - What are your thoughts on Oracle on Mac OS X?
    - Has anyone here installed Oracle 10g on Mac OS X?
    - Is your current employer considering Oracle 10g on Mac OS X?
    - Do you think it's a good idea for Oracle to release 10g on Mac OS X?
I initally learned that Oracle released 10g on Mac OS X when I learned about the following site. It's goal is to get people to switch to Mac.

    Hi,

  • Why no oracle for intel mac?

Our company uses intel macs for oracle development & production, currently we having to run the windows 10g db under XP in Parellels which is a poor solution.
Does anyone in Oracle know of a release date?
    Is Oracle not supporting Macs?
If not, we will have to either change db platform or throw away a lot of apple hardware.

I doubt Oracle will even notice the loss of our million dollar yearly license / maintenance >> fees. I'm afraid you are right. According to the certify matrix the Mac OS X operating system will have 10gR1 as the last Oracle certified version, as 10gR2 is not planned.
You have already participated on this Mac OS thread (Oracle as good as dead on the Mac so you know what could be the future of it.

  • Is there any  ORACLE DB for MAC users ?

i had looking for Oracle express edition for MAC OS X platform
and it seems there is no one for it ( there is only for Linux / Windows )
any suggestion on how to get oracle and learn it on my MAC( Leopard) machine ?
actually its strange problem i thought Oracle will support MAC in any case while all other technologies ran on MAC ( Sun tech, PHP ,Apache , MySQL )
    any advise appreciated here

You might like the instructions on my blog for configuring the Oracle Client 10g on your Mac OS X after you install it in a VMWare Fusion virtual machine. Both Linux and Windows versions are available for Oracle Database 10g Express Edition. My students typically install it in a x64 XP Pro version. Allocate at least 1 GB to the VM.

I found this thread in Internet but the link to download a oracle version to mac is dead.As noted the 10g version have been removed. Afaik, all "10g" branded products/editions are removed since the release had turned an age nearly prehistoric.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/macos/whatsnew/index.htmlAs you can see from the page linked to, 10.2.0.4 is the latest (and it's removed, as stated) version available. Note that it has/had software requirement including "Apple Mac OS X Server 10.5.4" (Leopard). The Install guide even adds "Only the versions listed in the previous table are supported. Do not install the software on other versions of Apple Mac OS X."
I think there may have been some plans or so to have a 11.2 version ready during this year... with destined quarted got rolled forward a few times. But now considering that 12.1 / "12c" (or whatever it will be) is on the way and that Apple already released Mountain Lion (10.8), I would say you'll have to wait and see what 12c delivers during next year.

  • Oracle 10gR2 on Mac OS X 10.6

    Good evening everyone
Please help me to solve a problem I had after installing Oracle 10gR2 on mac os x snow leopard.
After installation, everything worked fine, but once I rebooted the system, I could not use Oracle and I received the following error message:
    ERROR:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Mac OS X Error: 2: No such file or directory
Thank you for helping me solve this problem

Is this a follow up on Use SQLDeveloper ?
Regarding the older thread at Installation on MAC OS X: ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist Perhaps there is an easy solution, but in that case the problem was not found. It might be that some update release of Snow leopard 10.6 is causing the trouble. Oracle does not support Snow Leopard. The whole installation of Oracle as such including the setup of kernel parameters and other system settings is un-apple like and therefore doomed to fail in later releases, depending what changes Apple makes on the underlying Unix support. Apple MacOSX is not just another Unix box and it's setup and maintenance is proprietary.

  • Using iSync to sync two macs

Is it possible to use iSync to sync two macs?
I use a PowerBook and a Mac Mini and it would be handy if address contacts and calendars could by synced easily.
I would rather not get a .mac account.
Surely another mac should show up when you click 'add device' in iSync?

In addition to the information Julian provided, you can use commercial software as an alternative to .Mac for some synchronization purposes.
SyncTogether from Mark/Space will synchronize five of the six .Mac data categories across user accounts on a single machine, across users on a local area network, and across the internet. Keychain synchronization is not supported.
BusySync from BusyMac provides local area network only synchronization and sharing of otherwise read-only iCal calendars.
You can also investigate such products as SpanningSync for synchronization of iCal calendars using Google, and Plaxo, which offers contact, event and tasks synchronization—in a not quite ready for prime time beta release—for the Address Book and iCal.

  • Oracle 10g for Mac OS X

I was just reading the session list for Apple's WWDC this year at:
    http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/descriptions/descriptions-eit.html
Understanding Oracle 10g for Mac OS X
Come to this session to learn about Oracle's latest grid-based relational database solution, Oracle 10g. Grid computing reduces the cost of IT by clustering servers together to function as a single large computer, shifting resources dynamically between applications. Attend this session if you are an in-house developer looking for a highly scalable and reliable database on Mac OS X Server.
Hopefully this means we will see 10g on our favorite platform sooner rather than later.

As I understand it from what I read somewhere here on Technet about month ago, there will be COMMERICIAL release of 10g on MacOSX.
Wouldn't that be just great? Run Oracle on a G5 X-Serve and OSX Panther instead of running it on some Wintel box with geeky Linux! I can hardly wait. This DBA will have his own G4 2x1 GHz ready!
FACT is : it will probably be a few more months but then again 10g has been released for other less mainstream platforms fairly quickly.
    Cheers,
    Jos Nijhoff

  • ICal & Oracle's CorporateTime

    I've posted one question here:
Discussions > Mac OS X Technologies > iSync
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=574306&tstart=0
But I thought I'd also post here with an even more basic question: How do I export and iCal (2.0.3) calendar so that I can import it into CorporateTime (5.2.3)?
What I've tried so far hasn't worked, so any light you can shed is MUCH appreciated:
select calendar in iCal > File > Export > save to desktop as "[calendar name].ics" > go to CorporateTime and view my Agenda > File > Import Data... > Import from: iCalendar file > select the .ics file > Import dialog box opens > Import: check "Meetings, Day Events, Daily Notes" and Period: check "Import all entries" > Error Message: "There are no valid entries to import"

It is telling that a Google search of CorporateTime—or, alternatively, Corporate Time—with such terms as…
    • iCalendar
    • iCal
    • .ics, or
    • vCal, and
    • import
produces nearly ZERO records. And, none of them useful.
I've just got one thing to say to Larry Ellison: "Hey, Larry - step off the sailboat for a minute, get a grip on your company, and have one of your many minions produce some publicly accessible documentation." Sheessh!
[Insert anecdotal question here:] Why is your simple question so hard to answer?
I answered, to a limited degree, the related question you posed in the iSync forum. But with this issue, I can only suggest that you search within the bounds of your organization for Oracle documentation, or a resident expert or other individual with access to such documentation.
Or, I suppose, you could call Oracle in Redwood City CA [at (650) 506 7000] and try to find someone there who could answer your question, or at least point you in the right direction. One other thought: Oracle applications are widely used in major universities. Maybe you could find someone at a nearby institution of higher learning who deals with issues like this, and could offer a solution to you.
I am betting that the basic issue here is Oracle's 'non-standard' implementation of the iCalendar standard.

  • Can I install Oracle client on Mac os X version 10.4.6?

    Hello,
    My os version:
    ProductName: Mac OS X
    ProductVersion: 10.4.6
    BuildVersion: 8I127
The processor information is "Dual 800 MHz PowerPC G4 2MB L3 cache per processor"
    Memory 1 GB SDRAM
    120 gig hard drive
I would like to install the Oracle client software so i can run sql*Plus. I'm looking at the quick install guide and it says that "Only Mac OS X Server is supported." and it also says "The operating system version must be Apple Mac OS X Server 10.3.6"
Why would Oracle only create an Oracle client that runs on a mac server? Is this information correct? or can I go ahead and install the client on my machine?
    Thank you,
    David

No luck for me. :( Even gave total access to the directory and files. But the location of the lib file is not any directory on my machine.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Plz guide me i didnt find any suitable article on net till now...also let me knw where i can find step by step proc to install
    thanks for your help.

MACOSX 10.4 (Tiger OS) PowerPC based systems is certified on Oracle Database release 10gR1 (10.1.0.5).
well, the certification tab doesnt talk about Mac OS X v10.5 (Leopard). I don't think it's not certified yet. But if its for learning purpose, you can always give it a try. :)

  • Motorola E815, Address Book, iSync 2.1.1, Mac OS 10.4.3

I just replaced my Motorola v60i which worked perfectly fine with Address Book, iSync, Mac OS X 10.4.3, on a PowerBook G4. I upgraded to the Motorola E815 and although it syncs through Bluetooth it does not sync numbers with wait commands (i.e., 9785551212w1234w1) properly. The w is the wait command for burst dialing whereas 9785551212 would be sent, then you would press the right smart key to send 1234 (a password), and then you would press the right smart key to send 1 (to play a message). When the infomation is synced, iSync sends 978555121212341.
If you manually enter the wait command on the phone and then sync it eliminates the w when synced to the Address Book.
I played with entering a upper case W, but when synced, it converts it to a 9.
Has anyone run into this? Is there a fix for this? Manually editing the numbers with w commands would be a real hassel.
I contacted Verizon Wireless (Massachusetts) and they directed me to Motorola. After 6 calls to Motorola and 2-hours on the phone because their system kept hanging up on me, a support representative told be "Oh, you have a Macintosh. We don't support the Macintosh so call Apple." Real helpful. ;-(
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mike, thanks for your response and advise.
I talked to Apple via AppleCare Tech Support. Paul (the technician) was extremely helpful and we worked through the issue.
What we did was to create a test user account and try syncing from the e815 to the Mac. That worked and all numbers with a w in them transferred fine. We deleted the test user.
In my primary user account, we deleted the e815 from the Bluetooth System Preference, deleted the iSync device, deleted com.apple.Syndication.plist and com.apple.isync.plist from the Library > Preferences folders. Restarted the computer with Disk 1 of the original Mac OS X Installation CD and checked and repaired the harddrive. We restarted again.
We set up the e815 in the Bluetooth System Preference. We established a connection in iSync. We than synced the phone. After syncing the e815 did not have the w in the numbers on the e815.
We reset the device (phone) in inSync, which deleted all the information and transferred the data from the Address Book to the e815. The w were not in the e815.
I then entered the w using the Insert Wait command in the e815 and resynced. Everything worked. So, the key "seems" to be to insert the w in the cellular telephone and then sync to the Macintosh. We synced several times afterwards and everything seems fine now.
Paul (at AppleCare), you are awesome! Thanks so much.
FYI - Paul said he would escalate the issue and hopefully Motorola or Apple will fix this "feature."

  • Oracle 10gR2 on Mac OS/x 10.5.6 - dbconsole not working after installation

    Hi All,
Anyone able to get dbconsole up and running after the installaton using DHCP?
I followed the Quick Install guide linked on the OTN Mac Page:
    http://www.pythian.com/news/1937/quick-install-guide-for-oracle-10g-release-2-on-mac-os-x-leopard-intel
I'm setup with DHCP (as they are in the quick install guide).
Config Assistant ran setup for Enterprise Manager successfully, but it looks like it did not create the repository or directories.
When I go to create manually with emca I get errors.
Curious if anyone has got this going out of the box or if there is a standard set of steps I missed out there post install to get it running.
Don't see anything in the official installation guide or Metalink either (except that DHCP is not really recommended).
    Thanks,
    Tony

    Hi Anthony,
Unfortunately, the releases note for 10gR2 on OS X indicate that Enterprise Manager database control is unsupported for this release, so I don't think you'll see anything from Oracle about how to get dbconsole to work. That doesn't mean it isn't possible, of course, just unsupported. :-) A quick Google search isn't turning up anything so far, but maybe someone out there in Internet-land has managed to get dbconsole to work...

    John P.
