ISync wants to delete past events

Hi,
My p900 (Symbian) phone has deleted all past events in it's calendar. Now when I try to sync using iSync, the app wants to delete all the past events in iCal to make the device match!
I really want to keep my events. Is there a way of giving getting iSnyc to resore my phone with the iCal data or to just stop it trying to delete all my past events?
Thanks

Choose Reset Device from the Devices menu to make iSync send all data from your Mac to the phone again.

    Hello 123Giblet,
The iPhone has a setting for how long a past event will appear in your calendar.  I found steps to help you change this setting in the iPhone User Guide:
    Calendar settings
There are several settings in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars that affect Calendar and your calendar accounts. These include:
•Syncing of past events (future events are always synced)
•Alert tone played for new meeting invitations
•Calendar time zone support, to show dates and times using a different time zone
When you tap on Sync, you will be given several options for how long you want past events to stay on your iPhone, and there is also an option to select All Events so that they remain on your calendar.  You can find this information on page 69 of the iPhone User Guide

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

  • Delete a calendar without deleting past events? (iCal 5.0.3)

    Hi,
Is there a way I can delete one of my calendars on iCal without losing all the past events? Right now, if I just delte it I get a warning that all event in that sequence will be gone.
    Thank you

Actually, I've figured it out. In order not to lose the past events in a calendar I can export the whole calendar. Delete it, then Import it into a calendar that I don't want to delete. This way all the past events will remain.

  • TS3999 Deleted past events from shared iCloud calendar. How can I get them back?

I have accidentally deleted all past events from shared iCloud calendars when removing from one mac. How can I get them back?

Why would you be surprised?  You were syncing your Notes with iCloud or a Mail Account.  Synchronization means when you make a change on one device, it affects all other devices that are synched for the same purpose.  Like when you delete an email (usually) it also disappears from your other devices as well.

  • My iCal runs very slowly. Is there a way to delete past events quickly without having to delete each event individually?

Ever since my new Mac OS update, my calendar runs very slowly, sometimes freezing. What shall I do? Could it be that past events are slowing it down? If so, how can I remove them easily without having to scroll through everything and press delete?

What settings have you in Preferences/Advanced delete events after they have passed?

  • Delete past events without telling all invitees it's cancelled?

So here is an example...had a birthday party last night that I invited several family members to using iCal invitees feature.  They all accepted the invite.  The party was yesterday and I'd like to delete from my calendar.  However, if I do so it's going to send an email out to everyone saying that the event has been cancelled.  It wasn't cancelled, it was yesterday.
Is this just a weird bug?  Is there some way I can get rid of past events without it doing this?
    Thanks!

    You cannot.
Apps are not stored in the backup. They are in iTunes.
Photos should be on your computer in your photo application or saved to a folder you saved them to from the iPhone.

  • Manual says ~If wanting to delete an event IT will also delete the source

I have a lot of stuff [Q time] on my desktop and wanted to use Final cut to whittle all of it down to just the footage I want to use. That being my way of getting more space on disk.
Tried and can do using just Q time BUT thought easier to import to Final cut, work upon and then export back to desk, for later use.
Is this stupid, don't know, the point being upon trying to do so I'm told that Final cut will also delete the source material, and i have some material already in an event which I now want to clear form Final cut, reason to start afresh~ clean slate etc, etc, BUT~ don't want to lose the original material.
Can anyone explain please~ 1] what is meant by source material and 2] how to best go about doing the above

    aka Apple E ed {{{ oh and just how do I go about changing that Apple E ed for something else, will also be useful ... please }}}}

When you import media into an event in FCP X, it can be either copied (meaning a duplicate of your file will be created inside the event folder) or linked (which means that the event folder contains a very small "symlink" - similar to an alias - that points to your original file).
If you later delete the event, its folder will be deleted, and so will the copy or symlink of your media file, BUT in either case FCP X will NOT touch the original media file.
Maybe the misunderstanding came to be because FCP X stores these files or aliases inside the event, in a folder called "Original Media". Yes, that folder is destroyed, but NO, that folder does not contain the file from which you imported: it contains merely a copy of it, or a link to it.

  • Auto delete past events missing in new calendar?

This feature is missing from where it use to be.  Is it gone, or is it in a sneaky place I have failed to find?  It use to be under preferences->advanced.

    Ethan,
It is gone from the desktop version of Calendar. If you are an iCloud user, it can be found in the Calendar Web App>Preferences>Advanced.

  • Wants to delete my contacts + double posting iCal events and not syncing

    Hi everyone!
I hope you can help me.
I have an iPhone + MacBook + iMac and use MobileMe as well. My iphone was full which resulted in it not syncing with my computers. I double checked the settings and saw the "Info syncing" had been turned off for some reason, which I then turned on, and I checked the MobileMe settings as well.
So the situation is this now:
My iCal events are not getting synced to my computer from iPhone or MobileMe.
My iPhone has "double up" some events, meaning that I write them into the phone or my computer, they get uploaded to MobileMe, then synced back to my iPhone and thus appearing twice. I think these are the "old" events that were writing in before my MobileMe account was set up for syncing.
iSync wants to delete 195 contacts on my computers, without modifying or adding any. I did this with my iMac and sure enough some 195 contacts were deleted! Aw! How do I get these back?
My MacBook keeps prompting me with the some message, saying that syncing with MobileMe will delete 195 contacts, even though I have all these contacts present on my iPhone and my computer now.
I do not understand what is happening. I can send the contacts to my iMac and add them again, but I am afraid that these will then appear twice as well. Why can does calender on my iPhone show both the ones I write into the phone and from MobileMe? Shouldn't these be "synced" via MobileMe, so all I have to do is set it up and it should take care of itself? And why oh why does it want to delete 195 contacts? I think these are all my contacts apart from the 5 most recent which I wrote into the iPhone.
Can anyone help me? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
    Mc

    Hi,
I'm afraid you're asking in the wrong place. This is the iSync forum - which is for syncing contact and calendars to non-Apple mobile phones only. iSync doesn't sync between Macs or with MobileMe.
MobileMe syncing is handled by *MobileMe Sync*, and the forum for that is here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=957
However, you may need to reset your sync data. The process for that is described in this Apple Support Document:

  • Can you add a past event Into iCal?  I want to do this for record keeping.

I want to add past events to my icalendar for record keeping. When I try it disappears right after I add.  Can I do this?

You don't mention your OS or iCal versions but, based on my own OSX.6.8 and iCal v4.0.4 (1395.7) then go to ...
    iCal > Preferences > Advanced
... and look at the Option for Delete events n days after they have passed and ensure that either the option is not checked (which should keep past events for ever) or set to the number of days after which you are happy that past events get deleted.
Other parameters can also be set for the treatment of To Do items within that same preference panel.
I guess, although I do not know, that other versions of iCal and Calendar have similar options somewhere within user customisation.

  • Deleting past calendar events on sync with desktop manager for mac? How to proceed

I am new to Blackberry desktop manager for mac.  It is all set up and first sync is done without a problem.  Now when I try to sync, I get a message that over 600 of my past calendar items will be deleted if I continue with sync.  I need to keep previous calendar items, is there a way to solve this problem and not delete past events?  I am sorry for asking this question, I am just new and very unsure of what I am doing.  I had used missing sync before, but when my blackberry had to be replaced, new blackberry wouldn't work so I wanted to try desktop manager.  HELP!  Thanks!

I am having the same problem. checked space, had to delete 2 apps. was set to forever, just changed to from 30 days in past to 18 months in future hoping it would make a difference on sync. Still trying to delete 1256 events.

  • Why does ical delete my past events when all settings indicate that it should not?

All of the boxes, about deleting past events, in ical preferences are unchecked, so I can't figure out why ical deletes my past events.  Could it be because of a setting on either my iphone or ipad causing this to happen?

I had the same problem a few weeks ago and called apple support.  The solution is as follows:
Most apple users have multiple devices using icloud such as an iPdad, iPhone, and other computers.  In my case, I had two computers, two iPads, and one iPhone.   After speaking to apple support, I realized that one of my ipad's setting were set to delete events older then 2 weeks.   In short, if you are expeirienceing problems with ical deleteing events, you better check all your devices.  If just one of them is set wrong in your preferences, you will lose past events.   Even check computers you gave to your cildren or other members of the family.  You will probably find out that the settings on one of these machines is causing your problems.

  • Can't edit past events

i have a client who showed me this strange problem today.
she can view or delete past events for which she's listed as the organizer but can't edit them. i don't see any clear errors or notifications on the server to point me in any particular direction.
for individual events added to her calendar with no attendees, she can edit the past events, just not if attendees are listed.
any ideas? server's a g5 xserve running 10.5.5 for now. clients are 10.5.4-10.5.6. the client in question is on 10.5.6.
i also still have an issue at the same client, outlined here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1964543

Perhaps you've just updated your OS and now have the newer version of iCal which is ***** compared to the faster, more elegant older version. The older iCal presented every event's details in a ready to edit format just by clicking on the item in the calendar.
Now you have to double click that item you're interested in (one two) to get a window that shows you the item's details. Then, to edit, you must click the 'edit' button (three) upon which another editable window will allow your event details to be edited. Finally, after finishing your edits, you must click 'done' (four). Yes, that's right, 4 clicks to do what used to require only the initial click to specify which event you wanted to edit.
Four times as many clicks for a utility application that has no further improvements, only this annoying change from what was once a very efficient tool.
I do hope a future "update" will bring back the elegance of the older version with some true improvements.

  • How do I delete a prior month(s) or entire year(s) in iCal on my iMac (using version 4.0.4 (1395.7)?  Want to delete all months in 2009

I checked what was previous asked in deleting months from iCal; however, that question pertained to removing events from a month and not necessarily deleting the entire month.  I have three years of calendars (January - December x three) in my iCal and want to delete all months for 2009 and 2010; however, I can't seem to find a way to delete.  I checked preferences/advanced under iCal but no mention of deleting previous months/years.

    Greetings Judith,
Before making any attempts at deleting calendar data, backup what you have just in case:
Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
iCal has an automated function located in iCal > Preferences > Advanced > Delete events "X" days after they have passed.  By typing in a value for days you can tell iCal to delete all events before that time frame.
    Example:
    Today is 4-16-2012.
If I wanted to delete all events prior to 1 year ago (4-16-2011) I would type in "365" for the number of days.
Once you type in the number of days you want kept in iCal, close the preferences and then quit iCal.
Re-open iCal and check to see if the events are gone.  If not you may want to leave it open for several minutes and then quit again.
Once the events are removed go back to  iCal > Preferences > Advanced > Delete events "X" days after they have passed and make sure the check mark is removed to prevent future deletion.
    Hope that helps.
