Isync will not open!

i am trying to open isync from my imac, and just get:
Isync can't be launched
SyncServices: Can't connect to the sync server: NSInvalidReceivePortException: connection went invalid while waiting for a reply ((null))
I am trying to use it for mobileme, etc...it's driving me crazy, please help!

If you can't open iSync, then this support document may help:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
I have exactly the same problem.
Unfortunately, the Apple support document doesn't help. First, it contains this classic sequence:
+You may need to reset the SyncServices folder if you are:+
+Unable to open iSync in a particular Mac OS X user account.+
Resolution
+Reset the SyncServices folder with these steps in Mac OS X 10.5:+
+Open iSync ....+
The doc does provide more techie instructions on using Terminal, but that process fails with an error very much like the original one - ie failure to access the sync server.

  • ISync will not open and will not synchronize

I had recently let SOHO Organizer finish a third 30 day trial. I waited about one week after the trial was over. I had been having sync troubles on my computer which I thought were .mac sync problems. After awhile I decided the problems were with some kind of internal syncing mechanism. I have noticed in the activity monitor several times something called "syncserver" using about 99% of the cpu resources. Synchronizations other than with SOHO, if they sync at all, can take many hours. I do not know if any of this could have been caused during the use of my trial version of SOHO Organizer. With the trial version for awhile I was getting several duplications of various calendars. I deleted the unwanted calendars both in SOHO and in iCal. With all of this going on, I purchased SOHO Organizer and then reinstalled it thinking this may somehow fix something. Things are worse. The present condition is after 3 days it has not synchronized. There is only 1 entry showing in contacts, Chronos. My Address Book has 1300 contacts. My calendars are not imported. How do I get the synchronization to work? The most recent development is that iSync will not even open. I get an error message each time stating iSync quit unexpectedly.

I never figured out the problem or solution. One day after several months of trying different things from time to time it just started working ok. The last thing we tried with the cooperation of tech support at Apple was to set up a new user and migrate all my stuff to it. The first thing we tried to do was migrate the address book to the new user and it failed to open in the new user. I gave up due to time constraints. Then the next time I used my computer I found it was syncing ok.

  • Ical, isync will not open after restoring ilife 04 onto tiger

    Hi,
I've just used my old 10.3.5 disks to reinstall ilife on a powerbook that is now running tiger (for whatever reason, iphoto and imovie disappeared upon upgrade while the other applications didn't). Perhaps stupidly, I reinstalled all the extra applications on the disc, including ical and isync, instead of just the ones I needed. Everything works except for these two - the ical icon has changed to a piece of paper, pencils, and a ruler, and won't open, just giving one bounce and then quitting without a message. Same for isync, except the icon has stayed the same.
Most of the fixes I've looked at for ical not opening mentioned clearing something in isync but i can't get at it! any suggestions?
    Thanks for any help!
    12 inch Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Mr. Lemur,
iLife '04 was bundled with your computer, and it should be located on your Software Install and Restore DVD, not a Panther disc.

  • ISync will install but will not open.

    Hi folks,
This is my first post and boy is it a doozy.
I am having a multitude of issues, of which, my own numbskulledry is the primary cause.
I am a Treo 680 user, and hence, I use Missing Sync.
All of my contacts are in Address Book within OS X and none of which are on my brand new 680 or in Palm Desktops address book.
My Macbook is also new. Now, before I bought the 680 I had a 650, and I had a rather old iBook. I have two phones, a smaller phone for my pocket when I am working, an older Moto . ON my new Macbook, I got all of my contacts off of the Moto via iSync. Now I have my new Macbook, and my new 680, I must admit, that until now, I never tried to use missing sync on the Macbook.
I have been unable to get Missing Sync and iSync to play nice at all on the Macbook.
Everytime I went to enable Palm Synching in iSync, iSync would tell me that something wasnt installed correctly. Someone suggested I trash Missing Sync and reinstall it and try again. Well that only made matters worse.
this is where things get stupid..
So I decided to Trash everything and start over. I trashed every file I could associate with iSync, Missing Sync and Palm Desktop.
So...long story short, when I went to the Apple site to DL iSync, to my surprise I find that the only version available for download, is 1.5. So, I DL'ed it and it installed, but it will not open. It just bounces in the Dock a few times, and then goes away, I've tried this both as a restricted user and logged in as the Admin; same result.
Any helpful thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks very much for reading.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
As a general rule, you should not attempt to manually remove synchronization components manually. At this point, you are well past that note of caution but, in the future, don't attempt to do so. As you have discovered, that approach does nothing more than aggravate the issues you face.
You must first do this: reinstall the Palm Desktop, using the package bundled on CD-ROM that you received with your smartphone. [It is important that you take these steps in the order I outline. Seriously.]
Next, you should download Pacifist and use that utility to extract and install the iSync 2 package on the original Mac OS X 10.4.x that was supplied with your machine. There is now other way to perform this properly, and you cannot download a copy of iSync 2.x, which is required for use with Mac OS X 10.4 or later. To extract and install iSync, follow these instructions:
If you need to reinstall iSync, you'll need to do it in a two-step process, initially using the Pacifist utility to extract it from your original Mac OS X 10.4.x Install or Upgrade DVD.
    Download Pacifist from here.
To extract and install it, launch Pacifist. Insert your Mac OS X 10.4 Install or Upgrade DVD in your optical drive and wait for it to mount. Press the now-activated Open Mac OS X Install Packages button. Wait for the window to appear—it may take some time to load all of the resources—then double click on the Contents of Essentials.pkg file to open it, double-click on the Applications folder, select iSync.app then press the Install button.
That will install a copy of iSync 2 into your Applications folder. Then run the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo update for PowerPC or intel processor based machines—whichever is appropriate for your platform—to update it to release 2.4.
Those specific updaters are available at these links:
    • for PowerPC: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1049comboupdateppc.html
    • for intel: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1049comboupdateintel.html
Once you have done that, reconfigure iSync to support your smartphone by adding using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option. You should also reset the synchronization framework by opening the Preferences… dialog and pressing the Reset Sync History… button. Quit iSync.
Launch the Address Book and use the built-in option under the File menu to back up your contact records. Do the same with iCal, using its built-in option to back up your event and task records.
At this point, if you intend to use iSync, initiate a synchronization event and choose Replace to overwrite the contents of your handheld, unless—by doing so—you would lose information on it that is not in iCal or the Address Book. If that is the case, you must instead choose Merge.
Once you have done that, examine all of the records in iCal and the Address Book and make any additions, deletions or modifications you wish to to your contact, event and task data. Back each set up once again.
Then reinstall the Missing Sync, and use the option to overwrite the contents, this one time, of your handheld with the individual Mark/Space Contact, Events and Tasks conduits. Once that has been completed, make any category or group changes to your records on the Palm, and synchronize as you would normally.
If you are stumped at any point or encounter something you do not understand, STOP and ask about it. And whatever you do, don't delete anything related to your synchronization framework except individual application preferences files, should that be necessary.

    Having the same problem.
In another thread they suggest you go to iSync and in preferences clear the Sync History. However, this doesn't solve my problem either. So I hope some-one from Apple is reading this thread and can work on a solution?
I'm working with 10.4.7 on MacBook. Opening iCal shows the iCall screen, and as soon as it tries to connect to the webdav server it quits.

  • Some applications will not open with an error message it is incomplete or broken

A few applications like iChat, iSync and iCal will not open and has an error message that they are incomplete or broken. How do I fix them and how did they come to be this way? There are no updates to load.

You probably ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Camera Roll will not open

    Hello!.
The other day I took a picture of my dog, and after I took the picture the lense would not open back up. I tried turning off my phone but it wouldn't let me do ANYTHING, so I let it lock itself. I checked after it locked itself, and my camera would open; however, my camera Roll will not open. I tried taking a few pictures and it still won't open. In my camera, the picture in the bottom left if the last picture that I took and I can access the camera roll from there but it is the pictures i took before the one of my dog and they are all blurry!!
I've synced my phone several times, turned off my phone and everything. What do I need to do? HELP PLEASE!!!

    fins1212,
There are a couple of things you can try.
    1. Try to reset sync history:
    -Go to Application
    -Open isync
-Next to blue Apple (Top Left of screen) Click on iSync and go to preferences
-In Preferences click on Reset Sync History
    Try to sync phone again.
    2. If the above steps did not work try this.
    -Go to applications
    -Open Image Capture
-Next to Blue Apple, click on image capture
    -Go to Preferences
-At the top of the page you will see - When a camera is connected: Open
-Make sure the drop down menu shows iPhoto
    Hope that helps.

Have you tried restoring the Preferences yet?

Try starting Aperture with the command and option keys held down.  You'll get 3 options.
Try each, starting at the top, in order, checking after each to see if it fixes the issue.

I am on windows 7 and I upgraded to the newest verison of firefox and now it will not open. I have removed firefox completely and uploaded it again and that did not work. I then made sure it could get through my firewall and that did not work. So my latest attempt I removed firefox 10 again and uploaded the beta version hoping that would do it and once again nothing. It will not open at all. Please help - is there a live chat or a number to talk to someone at Firefox?

I think when uninstalling you may also have to choose (tick) to delete the preferences and other personal data like the bookmarks, stored passwords etc. to erase completely. If you are installing afresh, please try right-clicking on the file and '''Run as administrator''' to install. And when uninstalling, please also make sure choose to delete all data and also manually delete any '''Mozilla''', '''Mozilla Firefox''' or '''Firefox''' from %appdata%, %localappdata% and %programfiles%. You can open a location by typing for eg. %appdata% in the '''Run''' box (Windows key + R). You may also have to check the '''VirtualStore''' folder in %localappdata%. Files in the VirtualStore can be problematic. I think a clean installation may help.

Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.
