ISync will only launch in Admin accounts in Snow Leopard

I use Sync Together from Mark Space. Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, the application will not launch and stops responding upon launch so I force quit. When I changed the account to an admin, this does not happen. The same thing happens with iSync. I am guessing that the root problem of Sync Together is that iSync is not launching.
Can anyone else launch iSync while logged in as a 'Standard' account?

There was a problem with the sync services. This article helped me solve this problem:

  • I downloaded the lates version of iTunes. Now, every icon on my desktop now is the iTunes icon and will only launch iTunes. The same is true with almost everything in "All Programs" from my start menu. Uninstalling brought desktop back to normal.

After upgrading to the latest version of iTunes, it changed all desktop icons to the iTunes icon and will only launch iTunes. I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and the same problem occured. Help.

Yes i've tried all of that. I've turned it all the way on and off and erased all of my music and put it back on and nothing works. And with the breaking up CDs and putting into compilation categories i have already fixed all of that stuff. It's fine it just doesn't show up in the list of artists. I can find the album in the songs category and the albums category it's just it doesn't show tha name of the artist. All of the other albums that i downloaded before i updated my itunes to th most recent update are fine. It's just the two that i downloaded afterwards. Thanks for trying though.

after installing osx 10.8.2 to my mac mini it will not recognize my admin account. how do i uninstall

    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

For comparison, in another (guest) user account. Safari launches with just 1 bounce of the icon in the Dock.  Any help?

  • Will Lion install correctly handle multiple accounts from Snow Leopard?

Will Lion install correctly handle multiple accounts from Snow Leopard? Will current settings, DOCS etc be carried over?

I found the solution to my problem after I upgraded and it lies with the X509 Anchors.
SOLUTION:  Go to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security-common.plist (it may be a hidden file) and change it to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security-common.plist.bak.  This should remove the system calling to old outdated anchors and allow it to use the new security protocols under Lion's sandboxing feature.
It worked for me and mail runs fine.

  • Customizing the guest account in Snow Leopard

Has anyone figured out how to permanently customize the Guest account in Snow Leopard. I did this with Leopard by following the instructions at Michael's Mac. However, those instructions don't work under Snow Leopard.

this method still works fine for me although I did all the copying while logged in as root instead of using terminal. also you can do some customization of the guest account using Workgroup manager which is a part of Snow leopard Server Admin Tools

I was trying to do it with sudo rather than logged in as root, which I don't have set up. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
However, I should let you know that there seems to be a very bad bug in snow leopard which can sometimes wipe your main account's home directory after using the guest user.

until this is fixed I would suggest keeping the guest account turned off.

Can someone help please! I cannot log in to my Mac
Followed these intructions from earlier posts this thread, and got to:
    4. Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume. DONE

Luckily I read the note below: Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)".

  • When will we get a fix for the Snow Leopard Compatibility issue??

When will we get a fix for the Snow Leopard Compatibility issue?
I am growing impatient not being able to use cross dissolve or titles.
Its going to be a pain having to back out to OS 10.5. This is beginning to be like Windows Vista.

You don't say what "..Snow Leopard Compatibility issue.." you're having.
My titles and Dissolves - and everything else - work perfectly with iMovie HD 6 and with iMovie '09 in Snow Leopard.
Perhaps you need to revert to QuickTime 7 ..just in case you over-wrote QT 7 with Snow Leopard's own QuickTime X when you upgraded to SL.
QT7 and QT X both sit happily alongside each other in Snow Leopard ..you might want to give that a try.
But I have no problem with any aspect of iMHD6 nor iM09 (..and no trouble with "stills"..) using Snow Leopard on a "late '08" MacBook Pro.
I haven't yet installed SL (Family Pack) on my Mac Mini ..I'll let SL throw away my QT7 on that, and will see if that causes any problems with iMovie. If it does, I'll then download and re-install QT7 and see if that fixes any problems. But don't hold your breath ..I may report back tomorrow, but today I'm pretty busy! I'll do my best, though..

  • Photoshop launches in Admin account but not in User account??

My 2007 Mac Pro is working fine. Just installed 10.6.7 on freshly wiped HD in Bay #2. Used the migration feature to bring over everything from drive in Bay #1 (which runs 10.5.8). After that: Photoshop CS5 will not launch (on either drive) under the regular user account. Throws 2 messages as follows: "Cannot find scratch disk because disk is unavailable." Then: "Cannot initialize because disk is unavailable."
But - just logged in on my Admin account on the Snow Leopard drive. I then tried (for the first time ever, I think) to launch PS CS5 just to see what would happen. The app launched normally!
    This after:
    1. using Adobe uninstaller to remove "original" install of PS CS5 from the Snow Leopard drive. Then reinstalling. (first reinstall of THREE). This did not work to make the app launch, still got above messages.
    2. Ran permission repairs (I know - you don't have ta tell me.)
    3. Ran DiskWarrior - applied new directory to both Leopard and Snow Leopard drives.
    4. I then called Adobe support. Let the agent connect to my desktop from where he did another un-install & re-install using downloaded Adobe utility app. (A guy in India ran my Mac Pro in Michigan for 30 minutes while I sat there, entering Admin password when needed for the operations. Amazing.) He also performed Adobe diagnostics. All without success (on the User account).
After that, he gave up and arranged for a higher level agent to call me tomorrow (Wed. 4/13).
    5. Adding: during the above Adobe effort, it came to me that I have too many versions of Photoshop. (I had CS, CS3, CS 4 and CS 5.) So - I systematically removed all versions except the original CS from both the Leopard and Snow Leopard drives. I used AppDelete for this removal, hoping to get all pref files, etc. I even deleted an old version of Acrobat - just because I no longer need it. Then I ran DiskWarrior again and used PreferentialTreatment to check for bad prefs: then again installed CS 5 again - on both drives. (Still working in my normal User account.)
    6. Adding: all along, I had no trouble launching and using Photoshop Elements 8 on either drive. I had originally set the PSE scratch disk to my RAID storage drives (Bay #3 & #4). So I was sure by then that I had forgotten to apply the same designation for scratch disk of Photoshop CS5. This was the only variable or possibility I knew of at the time. Guessing: I had set CS 5 to use the drive I wiped clean for Snow Leopard and that's why it came up with: "drive not available."
Repeating: it was not until I logged into my Admin account on the Snow Leopard drive and found I could launch Photoshop from that account that I decided to check in here with my question:
    Q. What is the remedy for having one account which won't allow launch for some (in this case, just ONE) apps?
Sorry to be long-winded: this was a major, day-long effort and I want to provide a complete picture of what was done to trouble shoot. Thanks in advance for any help.

    1. Standard procedure is to do all but a few operations from Standard User accounts: which I have always done. All software installations have been from my original Standard User account.
Actually, most people use their admin accounts for things like installs, and some apps may not be installable from a standard account or may not function properly there, unless they can authenticate to admin privileges to install things in places standard users don't have access.
several complete uninstalls followed by an equal number of reinstalls FROM the original CS 5 install disk made no difference: when in the Standard User account. CS 5 DOES work under the Admin account on the new Snow Leopard installation (on Bootable Drive #2).
That matches with my experiences with Photoshop Elements... it only works if you've got admin privileges, unless you figure out what items are inaccessible from a standard user account and change their permissions.
I'm sure most experienced users would say that sticking with a Regular User account for daily operations is best.
In reality, that's not as prevalent as it probably should be. In part, that may be because of other software that similarly doesn't run on a standard account. In addition, running on an admin account really isn't as much of a risk as it might seem. I finally gave up years ago on using a standard account, and have never had a problem as a result of using an admin account for day-to-day operations. The stuff you can least afford to lose - ie, your documents - you have full access rights to in a standard account anyway, making your data no safer. It's easier to bork the system in an admin account, but the system is easily replaced.
I have seen (here and elsewhere) that creating a new Reg User account is the remedy when something suddenly won't work
That is true, but it's not a magic wand. In this case, though, I don't think that's likely to help. You're welcome to try it, but I highly recommend doing so in a non-destructive way, so that you can easily switch back to your regular account if it doesn't work.

  • Creative Cloud will only launch in SafeBoot. Why?

Creative Cloud crashes when I try to launch. The icon will flash once in the menu bar and then disappear. I'm running Mac OS X 10.10.3.
I've tried everything I could find in the forums and elsewhere through google searches. The only way Creative Cloud will open is if I start my Mac in SafeBoot mode.
SOME things I've tried (I've tried MUCH more than this list):
    try under a new admin
look for the app in my user preferences "startup at login" screen (it's not there)
    uninstalled and reinstalled
used Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool with fresh install
I've had CC installed on this same machine before, but only today did I purchase a CC plan and this started happening. It worked fine before.

I tried every solution I found online suggesting deletion of apps, fresh installs, deletion of folders, permission changes, etc. I finally had an hour long chat session with an Adobe tech who had me do much of the same thing again, only to have the issue remain.
Here was the end solution which worked for me:
    1. Create a new Admin account
    2. Log out of your computer, and then back in under the new admin account
    3. use the Creative Cloud uninstaller app to uninstall CC desktop. (Doing this prompted an alert message telling me I couldn't do this because some CC apps required it. So, I deleted the 2 CC apps I had installed, Lightroom and Photoshop)
    4. After the uninstall completes, install a new copy of CC desktop. (Once I did this, it opened and ran correctly.)
    5. Log out and log back in under your usual account.
    6. If CC desktop doesn't start on its own, double click the application itself to start up.
After completing step #6, CC desktop started up on its own. I re-downloaded Photoshop and Lightroom through CC and all is working normally so far.

  • SMB File Sharing only works for Admin Accounts???

I'm using a mac mini as a small file server. It will share files to WindowsPCs using SMB but there is a problem.
On the Option dialog where you select accounts to share files and folders using SMB only Admin accounts show up. This is far from ideal as I'd prefer to using Sharing Only or Standard accounts.
Is this a known issue? Is there a solution?

What permissions are you setting on the share?  My guess is you are only using user, group, and other (POSIX).  You need to add an ACL to the list and then set read/write or full control.
