Isync with palm 755p

I had to "hard reset" my Palm 755p, which essentially erases everything. I was hopeful that all of my contacts would return to the phone because I had used isync, but that didn't happen after the initial sync. Also, my ical has never loaded to my phone during a sync. I've spent hours with the Palm people (their online chat is very helpful) but they said this is an Apple issue. Any suggestions?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
For a number of reasons, I suggest that you ditch iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit and opt instead to use the Missing Sync for Palm OS. It is far powerful and reliable than the Apple solution.

  • Need help setting up iSync with Palm

So, I'm trying to set up my Palm Treo 650 to sync with something other than Palm Desktop -- either Entourage or iCal, I guess. But I'm in this loop where iSync can't find Palm Desktop's HotSync Manager, and the HotSync Manager doesn't list iSync in its conduit settings. I can't figure out how to get the two to recognize each other.
When I select iSync > Devices > Enable Palm OS Syncing, I get an error message saying Hot Sync Manager has not been properly installed, etc. But it has. I've been syncing fine with Palm Desktop, I just don't like it and want to try something else.
I think I have the latest versions of everything installed -- OS 10.4.5, iSync 2.1.1, Palm Desktop 4.2.1, Entourage 10.1.6, iCal 2.0.3.
My Treo is syncing fine via both USB cable and Bluetooth.
    Any ideas? Thank you.

Forgive my long-delayed response; I got busy with school and work. I have now been attacking this problem on and off, most recently for several hours today, and am slowly going insane.
I managed to get everything we talked about here set up -- the Disabled Conduits folder, an iSync conduit in Hot Sync, my Palm device added and syncing with iSync ....
I even got Palm info showing up in iCal. But I could not get Palm info imported into Entourage. The import wizard kept saying "the Palm Desktop file could not be found," or words to that effect.
I reset ALL the applications permissions.
I tried to install the latest version of Palm Desktop, 4.2.1 Rev D. over 4.2.1 Rev A (I assume, because it just said 4.2.1). Kept getting an error message at the final step in the installation process: "There were problems installing. Please try again.)
So I tried to reinstall Palm Desktop from my installation CD, and got the same install error.
So I deleted every vestige of Palm and Hotsync I could find on my computer, emptied the trash, and then tried to install the Palm Desktop CD. Same install error.
I am able to install other types of software just fine; in fact, just installed an OS X security update this morning.
This is driving me crazy. I don't know what to do. I am on Spring Break so I have some time to mess with my computer, but after tonight my Internet access will be spotty for the next week.

  • Uninstall isync with PALM?

I would like to remove the PALM from isync and i can do that. But how do I get the PALM to sync both the calendar and address book to my MAC ? Do i uninstall/reinstall the PALM desktop? Or is there an easier way? Thanks
    IMAC G4, IMAC G5, 12 Powerbook, 15 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

I did it the brute force way-trashed all references to PALM and reinstalled then, synced with "handheld replaces desktop" and it worked fine. I may end up with "missing sync" but this will do for the moment.

  • ISync with Palm

    Hi Folks
I am at my wits end with trying to sync my Address Book with my Palm. iCal syncs no problem, but Address book is problematic. I can't get it to sync and I have followed all the tips and advice on the Apple website. Am I alone?
    Neal

No, you are not alone: everyone attempting to synchronize a Palm device with Mac OS X 10.5 or later faces this issue, which has been identified, but not corrected. It can be resolved by doing one of three things:
    • removing all identified Groups from the Address Book, leaving your contact cards intact in All
    • turning off Contacts and synchroning calendars, then turning off Calendars and synchronizing contacts in a separate session
    • ditching iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit for the Missing Sync for Palm OS, a vastly superior means of synchronization for Palm devices

  • Can't sync Palm with Mac through iSync, only syncs with Palm Desktop

I have an older Palm Tungsten T3 that I use basically only to run a medical application that I need at work (ePocrates, which has its own conduit and auto-updates itself with hotsyncs). I haven't tried to sync it to my Mac for a long time. I use iCal for my calendaring needs, sync it with my iPod, and ignore the old stuff that's on the Palm, which I hardly ever even sync.
Today I had to reinstall the Epocrates software, and decided while I was at it I'd try to get the Palm syncing with the Mac (iCal, contacts, etc) again because it would be nice for it to show the same calendar data.
I reinstalled the newest version of Palm Desktop from scratch. Installed the ePocrates software on top of it. I have iSync 2.4. My Palm was not listed as a device initially. I chose "Enable Palm OS Syncing" from the menu; iSync then went through a series of steps in which it disabled several conduits (presumably to no longer sync with the Palm Desktop), then told me to enable the iSync Palm conduit through the HotSync manager, which I did.
I now show the Palm as a device on iSync, but it has a yellow caution icon over it and I'm not sure why. Clicking on it shows an options dialog. I chose for the first sync I wanted to erase everything on the device and then sync with the Mac. My syncs appear to work, but when the data is checked it seems to sync only with Palm Desktop. The old junky data on the Palm was not erased as requested. Newer calendar events and contacts from my Mac have not made it to the Palm. The ePocrates auto update conduit is working fine but that's the only part that is.
Any idea what's incompatible, or what I'm doing wrong here?

I have The Missing Sync and used it to sync my palm TX. I am now in the process of trying to get iCal going properly again. No longer have any calender views in iCal and the week views don't show until I have opened a month view and then go back to the week view. Very bizzare. Also have a heap of untitled calendar views in the drop down list option when looking at the info on any event - these calendar views are not accessible anywhere else though.
I'm not sure if it is Missing Sync or something I did wrong at present. Will also throw the problem to the Missing Sync people to see what they say. Will let you know. It seemed to work really well without needing the palm desktop!

  • Duplicate calendar entries with Palm/isync

I was able to sync my Palm Tungsten E2 once with entourage, ical, and address book. I was able to enter events in the calendar (through entourage) and enter them in the palm, and it synced perfectly. I went to do it again, and now I have duplicate events in ical and entourage and palm (about 4). The palm appears in the isync and I've enabled the palm os sync, and when checking the hot sync manager, I select the icon, but it never applies. I spoke with palm and they said they didn't have the software updated for this version of macbook.
My question is, if it worked once, why not all the time?
And is there a way remove the duplicate events without manually deleting them?
    MacBook 10.5.5
Tungsten Palm E2, conduit manager 3.2.1, isync 3.0.2, Palm 4.2.1

I haven't the time to answer this in depth at the moment, but you can do three things immediately:
    • stop synchronizing and, if necessary, remove your device from iSync temporarily
    • back up the contact, event and task data stored in the Address Book and iCal
    • remove the duplicates* from your Palm OS databases
*The tool best suited for dealing with duplicate records on a Palm device is UnDupe, from Stevens Creek Software.
There a couple of fundamental issues in play here, and I will explain them later. It is particularly because you have chosen Entourage and intend to keep using it that dealing with this issue is more complex than it otherwise would be.

  • Palm 755p not supported in Leopard?

I have been syncing my Palm 755p in Tiger using Missing Sync for some time. Then I upgraded to Leopard... Missing Sync didn't hold a connection, and the 6.0 version seems to have it's own problems, so I decided to try iSync.
The problem is that iSync won't even recognize the phone! When I try to add the device it says, "This device is not supported by iSync". But I see that others are using it with iSync in this forum. Any idea what's happening here?
    I'm on a MacBook, with a 10.5.1
    Brad

i had the same issue. I just did not use isync. Only certain devices are supported by isync. i have a 755p Palm. The Palm Treo 755p is not supported on the palm Tungsten and Zire families. The Pocket PC is also not supported see http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/.
You must purchase third party software from http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php from mark sync for $39.95. Then your palm Treo 755p can sync with ical and mac address book. Then you can publish your ical and address book to .mac (dotmac).
First, I installed the version of Palm that came on the CD with my phone. Then, I installed the latest version of the Palm v 4.2.1 Rev D from the website at http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421revd.html#sysreq. Then I did a hot sync to secure my information. Then I purchased and installed the missing palm sync from mark space. Then I hot synced again. I followed the instructions of letting the mac overwrite the handheld for the first sync. So after the sync i had to export my calendar and contacts from palm then import into ical and address book. Then I synced again.
Afterwards, I published to my .mac and selected update automatically. No problems ever since.
PS. I am running Leopard 10.5.1 on the new 24" imac.

  • Unable to sync with Palm Desktop

Here's my problem. I haven't been able to sync with my elderly Palm IIIC for about 2 years. Now my daughter gave me her Palm Zire 31. All my data are in my Palm Desktop on my iMac G5. Somewhere along the way I tried using iSync and got a bunch of stuff in my Mac address book. So I did a hard reset on the Palm Zire 31, then successfully hot-synced on my G5. But my nice address from my Palm Desktop file isn't coming over, just the crummy one from the Mac address book I think. My Palm Desktop address file has all the names in categories etc. I have tried making sure I have the correct conduits for syncing with the Palm desktop, and I tried telling the Sync operation to override with the Mac contents. I just want to move all my address data from my Palm Desktop on my Mac to the Zire. Any help here?

If you want to move all of the address data from your Palm Desktop to your handheld organizer, there is only one way to do it: using the Palm-supplied conduits to do so, not iSync and it's built-in iSync Palm Conduit. The transfer of all of the data from the Palm Desktop, including categories, simply is not supported by iSync or the iSync Palm Conduit.
The Missing Sync for Palm OS is an alternative, but you have to plan carefully how you do this, as you must first move the data from the Palm Desktop to either your device—or, through an export/import process—directly into both iCal and the Address Book. iCal task data doesn't survive this process, only calendaring data. In either event, categories don't transfer.
You'll have to perform some manual categorization on both your device and in the Address Book, and iSync will not support these changes. It won't reverse or otherwise modify them, it simply won't synchronize them. This is the case because you must overwrite the data on your handheld the first time you use the Missing Sync for Palm OS to synchronize.
The Missing Sync for Palm OS will, but only when using Mac OS X 10.4.4 or later, and an advanced Palm device with Palm OS 5.4 or later on board, as I recall. Only the Z22 would qualify, if that contention is true. Here is a list of Palm OS versions tied to specific handheld devices:
    http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=69,E=0000000000412440418,K=2 589,Sxi=8,useTemplate=Case.tem,CASE=10714
My Treo 600, with Palm OS 5.2.1, does not qualify as an advanced device and does not support categorization in the same manner as later devices do.

Hello HelpPalm755p, Welcome to the HP Support Community!  Unfortunately, phone support for these long-discontinued devices ended quite some time ago.
Can you give us some more detail on the problem?  Is the corruption on a computer inside Palm Desktop, or only on the phone?
What do you mean by "getting back on the email system?"  What email are/were you using?

  • ISync and Palm : difficult

    Hello,
    There are 2 pbs :
    * there is no way to have the palm icon being displayed in the isync front windows
    * when the sync is started directly from the palm, it does not sync properly the phone number : as there is no more any way to reinitialise the palm with the data from the computer (as isync can't access the palm), it syncs in the 2 directions. Then the data from the palm generate a resynchro for 250 phone numbers (the home phone are ste as work phone in address book) out of my 560 contacts.
I have accepted once these modifications, then changed all the numbers in adress book to set them back as home phone... But on the next sync, it asks me again to resynchro the 250 numbers, as if it was syncing only from the palm, and not taking in account the adress bokk modifications...
I have already tried the followings :
    * destroying the palm sotware and reinstal it
    * destroing the "app support" for isync and palm
    * destroyng the pref for isync and palm
I have tried to reinstrall isync, but the 2.3 version seems not available on apple site... (only 1.5, an 2.1 on another site)
    Context :
I have re-used my palm after may be 1 year without any use.
I was then in a previous version of OSX on the last sync 1 year ago (I have read things about first isync and 10.4.6... Too late ! )
    I have a Palm zire 31

There is no easy way to do this. You must manually reconfigure the conduits each time you want to move from one environment to the other. [But, see the note of caution at the end of this message.] Also, reinstalling the Palm Desktop after iSync is installed and configured can create problems, so if you want to move from one evironment to other, do this:
Locate the active Conduits and Disabled Conduits folders, here:
    Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync
To activate the Palm Desktop, move this conduit to the Disabled Conduits folder:
    • Apple [that's the Finder name of the iSync Palm Conduit]
To activate the Palm Desktop, move ONLY these conduits to the active Conduits folder:
    • Calendar Conduit
    • Contacts Conduit
    • Memos Conduit*
    • Tasks Conduit
The analagous but outmoded Address, Datebook, Memo and ToDo conduits should remain in the Disabled Conduits if they are present at all in your configuration.
*If activated, the Memos conduit will synchronize memos with the Palm Desktop. iSync has no memo function, and the older Memo [singular] conduit should always remain inactive if present.
To reverse the process, do just the opposite to restore iSync and deactivate the Palm Desktop. As explained above, however, leave the Memos conduit active if you wish to synchronize memos at all.
A word of warning: the SyncServices framework is complex, and subject to sudden and unexplained data errors due to corruption of actual data or the handlers which push and pull it to and from the truth database. Every time you act in a manner which increases this complexity—such as moving back and forth from one synchronization environment to another—you greatly increase the likelihood that you will corrupt your data, and you place your synchronization scheme at greater risk of failure.

  • Internal error 0x0701 on Palm 755p Verizonwireless

I am recieving a internal error 0x0701 on my palm 755p. How can I fix this problem?
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Verizon)

I been trying to find out when I get this error. It look like this error has something thing to do with my wireless sync e-mail.  It also happen when my battery is low or the treo can not get to the server. That means the Treo has turn off the wireless and the system is not able to sync the e-mail.  Now how do I stop getting the error because the is normal low power mode or it just can get to my e-mail server.

  • Best software to use with Palm Pilot

I recently made the conversion from PC to Mac. I am still haveing a hard time converting my Palm Pilot over, however. I have tried Palm desktop's software for Mac (Palm Desktop 4.2.1) and I have also tried the built in mac programs for addresses and datebook/to do items. The mac address book and Ical are better than the Palm versions but I still have some questions. First, should I give up on all the memos that are on my palm pilot or should I buy "missing sync" in order to keep my memos? What are other palm users who are using macs using to keep their lives in order on the mac platform? Also, if I buy "missing sync" (or some other 3rd party software) will I still be using Ical and the mac address book? Please give your personal preferences. Thank you!

Most users of the Missing Sync for Palm OS do use it to synchronize with the Address Book and iCal. You can, however, use it to drive other conduits instead, including those bundled with the Palm Desktop.
Mark/Space includes the Mark/Space Contacts conduit to synchronize with the Address Book, the Mark/Space Events conduit and Tasks conduit to synchronize with iCal, and the Mark/Space MemoPad conduit to synchronize with the OS X memos application they also provide.
In addition, Mark/Space provides conduits for iPhoto, iTunes, AvantGo content and a conduit to synchronize the internal clock of your handheld with that or your Macintosh.
The Address Book and iCal will behave just as they do using iSync with your handheld organizer, with a couple of exceptions: the address you have in the Address Book need not be labeled Home in order to synchronize, for example.
You should read these articles to gain a better understanding of how fields are mapped by the Mark/Space conduits:
    For the Address Book: http://www.markspace.com/support/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=2560
    For iCal: http://www.markspace.com/support/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=2563
Memos are synchronized using the Mark/Space MemoPad conduit they provide, to their Mark/Space MemoPad application. Maybe the best way to explain how it looks and operates is to say that the OS X application exactly mimics the Palm OS application. It looks on you Macintosh, just like the Palm OS version looks on your handheld.
I do use precisely this setup with a PowerBook G4 12" 867 MHz and a PalmOne Treo 600, synchronizing via USB.
And, no, I do not now work for—and have never actually worked for—Mark/Space, either as an employee or a contractor. As often as I recommend their software packages, however, I probably ought to!

    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

I have a Centro/Verizon Wireless using Versamail with accounts established for personal POP and Exchange e-mail synchronization.  The latter account is for work.  Previously I owned a Treo 650p using Versamail.
When I first installed Palm OS Desktop and synched to my Centro device, it was on a Windows XP home computer, and no Versamail accounts were defined.  First I downloaded and installed the Versamail version which allowed Exchange synchronization.  I exported the Treo650p contacts list to a disk file, and imported it onto the Windows XP home computer into the Palm OS Desktop installed with the Centro-supplied CD.  This synched the imported contacts list to the Centro fine.  After I defined all the POP and Exchange accounts, synchronization with the office Exchange contacts list worked fine, and still does.  Synchronization with the windows XP home computer for contacts seems to still be ok, too regardless of the MS Exchange Versamail account commingling with my personal POP accounts.  Maybe the install sequence is overriding the previous posts' notation that MS Exchange mail definition will override synch with Palm OS Desktop?
The problem now is I have a different/second home computer that's Vista os.  I installed the Palm OS Desktop and synch with the Treo.  The contacts list is not synching to this second home computer, maybe because I didn't follow the exact same sequence as for the Windows XP pc?  I can still synch my Centro with my Windows XP pc and that includes contacts.
Is there a way on this second pc to override the MS Exchange contacts override for synchronization without having to go through the exact same install sequence as occurred on the Windows XP machine?

  • I just wanted to say I am sorry and clarify the situation as it was clarified for me yesterday... Great experience with Palm Customer Support.

I called Sprint yesterday and was treated terribly by tech support because I didn't want to switch devices.  They as much as called me outright stupid for wanting to stay with my Palm Pre.  Even though they agreed that all four phones were broken out of the box and that I was not at fault.  They refused to help on the basis that Palm Pre's were being recalled and no longer would be available at Sprint.  I was so upset that I called Palm immediately and found that to be untrue.  Thankfully.  Despite all the issues I had, I don't believe it was Palm's fault.  I believe the Authorized Retailers were selling refurbished phones as new.  Especially after finding out that my husbands' Samsung Moment had over 400 hours of talk time a week after he bought the phone.  So, after being lied to by Sprint, I called Palm and the Tech's were very helpful and very empathetic and are sending me a replacement phone.  They waived the fee since this is to be my 5th replacement and I was extremely surprised at how helpful they were.
Further, this morning I got a phone call from an unknown number... which I almost didn't answer but I did and it turned out to be a Palm Corporate Customer Service Rep who had read some of my "rants" on here.   He apologized and we talked for a while about the problems I had with R**** $&*** and Sprint.  He then offered to replace the Touchstone I had purchased earlier this month and offered to call me after I receive the replacement and the TS kit to make sure there was no problems... which I believe he will.  SO, I am a person who is very happy with Palm. If I am wrong, I will say I am wrong... especially if my experiences could had given people pause about buying this phone.  I am sorry.  It is truly a great company, who does care about their customers and their opinions.
So, if you do end up being one of the few people who have an issue.  Try Sprint once and if they don't fix the problem... call Palm and they will take care of you.  I got caught up in a cycle of reading other people examples (and who knows how much a situation is exaggerated) and expected to receive horrible service from Palm.  But I didn't and I am glad that I stuck with them.
If anyone reading had a similiar experience from Palm where they went above and beyond the call of duty to restore your faith in the company... please post if you have the time. Thanks again

I am sorry if I didn't explain clearly but Radioshack is the first place I bought my phone from... as an authorized retailer I assumed that if it was new, it wouldn't be broken... but after the first two, I got online and found another story where Radioshack got caught selling a refurb Palm Pre as new.  The guy bought it took it home and it had some defect (that I can't remember) and when he went to Pandora App, he found that the previous owner had signed in and it hadn't been cleared out.  So.... I don't know... but I agree with you because you still see the problem clearly.  Sprint acts as though they are supportive of Palm, but if you have the slightest issue, they throw Palm under the bus and won't back a far superior product.  I do agree that there are some issues with the Palm build, but I think that it has more to do with the owner than anything.  If you have the time and ability to take care with your Pre, then it will probably last longer than someone who just jams the charger in the port or anyone who doesn't baby the phone 97% of the time.  I am sure some people are going to say that you shouldn't have to take sure care with a phone and I agree, but unfortunately that is just the case for now. I have faith that the next webOS device is going to be of a spectacular and solid build quality.  And the rep that called me about the charger kit said some about a future device, I don't know if he was just talking in general or if there is actually a device in the makings but I hope so!
    http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/240804-still-my-1st-pre-proud.html#post2368881
I know there was a post on precentral that talked about who was on their first Palm Pre's and the number was surprising high.  I just know that I am still waiting on my replacement from Pre and they could have very easily just grabbed a refurb and threw it in a box to be shipped.  But I was assured that a tech was going to inspect the device before it was sent to me and it was shipped two days after my order.  So, hopefully dealing with Palm rather than Sprint will be the deciding factor that allows me to finally have a great model of the Pre with no prior issues out of the box.  I just hope that there is a new Palm webOS device when I able to upgrade in a year or so.  Above is the link for the forums regarding owners who are still on number one, alot of them launch day Pre's.  Thanks for your response.  Can't wait till Monday
