ISynching address book to Palm

New to Macs. PCs for 30 yrs but I'm taking the plunge. I've synched my calendar to my Palm but can't get the address book to sync. The apple website told me to download Palm conduit 1.2 software but it won't let me load it because I don't have iSync 1.2 (I have the latest, iSync version 3.0). Any suggestions?

DO NOT download and install the iSync Palm Conduit: that version of the conduit was intended for use only with iSync 1.5 and earlier and no OS beyond Mac OS X 10.3.9 - you will only create additional issues by installing it.
There are emerging issues with Palm synchronization under Mac OS X 10.5 and later: you may simply have to wait for these to be dealt before you can effectively synchronize with the iSync Palm Conduit. You may be able to synchronize your contacts by launching iSync, pressing the Tungsten icon to drop down your device configuration pane, and unchecking or deselecting Calendars. You may also be able to synchronize Calendars by unchecking or deselecting Contacts. Having both checked or enabled, as you normally would, reportedly does not work as expected.
You should also seriously consider the Missing Sync for Palm OS from Mark/Space. Although not yet certified for use with Mac OS X 10.5 and later, it is nearly ready, and a beta release of the new package—currently version 6.0.2 beta 4—is available here. Be sure to back up your contacts, events and tasks and read the release notes which accompany this pre-release software before attempting to use it.

  • How to export Date book and Address book from Palm Desktop to Apple iCal and Address Book?

I have my calendar information and addresses stored in Palm Desktop date book and address book, respectively. I am running Palm Desktop 4.2.1. Everytime I try to export the date book or address book to my desktop using the vCal format, the Palm desktop crashes. My goal is to export all my data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book on the Apple OS (10.6.1). Does anyone have any advice as to how I can do this or do I just have to start from scratch and manually enter the data from Palm Desktop to Apple iCal and Address Book? I looked at the Missing Sync software, but I don't think this will do the trick. The Genius Bar at the Apple Store didn't offer any solutions either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello tay8000m and welcome to the Palm forums.
Have you tried running the "Repair Disk Permissions" command in Apple's Disk Utility application yet?  Launch Disk Utility, select "Macintosh HD" from the left side of the window, and then click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.
After the utility has run, try launching Palm Desktop again and then exporting your data as vCard or iCal files.  If the exports aren't working for you, you can always export the data as comma separated values (.csv) file and then import that into the Apple apps you want to use.

  • Transferring address book of Palm Vx to MS Outlook Express Address Book

Can someone suggest a simple way to import the palm Vx address book into MS Outlook Express?

If you export the contacts from Palm Desktop as a csv file and then import it into address book as a text file csv that will work the best for you. The problem that you will run into is that Palm Desktop and the Address Book uses different names for the fields. For instance. You have a phone number under the main field in Palm Desktop in address book you will have to Map it to a phone number field of your choosing.
There is no easy way to go about this unless you want to pay money for the solution. If that is what you want to do I would suggest doing a Google search for a program that will do what you are looking for.

  • Exporting address book to Palm Centro

I broke the screen on my Centro. Luckily, I had a spare a friend gave me when he bought an I-phone. I cannot figure out how to get my address book from my Palm Desktop to my new phone. I can't beam it from the other phone because the screen no longer works. Please help!!!

You'll need to erase the "new" phone with a Hard Reset first.
How to Hard Reset a Palm Centro.
Go to http://kb.palm.com and enter the number 45050 into the "Solution ID" box.
Once this is complete, perform a HotSync with the computer the data is residing on.  Palm Desktop will recognize the device as blank, and will ask you: "Create a New HotSync Account, or use an Existing One?"  Choose Existing, and pick your original HotSync Account name.
All the data should be copied to your "new" phone when the process is completed.

  • Security update 2007-009, address book and palm

Since the security update 2007-009 for Leopard all my address have disappeared from my palm. They are still in address book but no longer sync to the palm (nor do they appear in Palm Desktop). I suspect the update has broken the conduit.

However, as I understand it it is not Palm Desktop that is the problem ( I don't use it just opened it for the first time in about 3 years to see if the data loss was consistent) but the address book conduit which comes from Apple. Was going to use Missing sync (actually looked at doing so last week) but I seem to recall it has yet to be updated for Leopard. Correct?

  • Getting iCal and Address Book onto Palm Pre (if you use Missing Sync)

If you use Missing Sync to sync your address book/iCal to your Palm, it looks like you will have to setup a Gmail account and a Google calendar.  You can then export your iCal calendars to a folder and import them into your Google calendar from the web.  Download a free trial of Spanning Sync to sync your contacts (only!!) to your Google contacts and then your Palm Pre should be able to subscribe to your Google calendar and your google contacts (Which should be identical to your iCal). The only question from here is how any new contacts or appointments on your computer will sync to the Pre.  Maybe Missing Sync will come out with something.
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Sprint)

I'm running Missing Sync 1.0.2 for Palm Pre and WebOS 1.4.  It seems to work but it is really slow - takes 11 minutes to sync my contacts and calendars over a fast wifi connection.  I have about 1000 contacts and a complex calendar, but i'm only syncing 2 months past and future.
i opened a ticket about this, we'll see what happens.
Does anyone have any experience with the speed of Missing Sync over wifi prior to webOS 1.4?  This is a new device, i updated it to 1.4 immediately before installing Missing Sync.

  • Syncing or importing my address book contact from Mac address book to palm

all attempts to move my Mac addresses (in address book) into my TX are met with grayed out application, links etc. Can anyone send me the step to follow? My hotsync works between TX and Palm desktop.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

some palm devices are supported directly through isync (check somewhere on the apple website to see if yours is one of them.
And when you say 'greyed out application' do you mean this is when trying to open an exported address book file by doing an open with? If so, to ungrey it, where it says 'recommended applications', change it to 'all applications'
    Hope this helps

  • Address book from Palm Desktop by Access is missing on computer!

Please help - My address book from my Palm Desktop by access is GONE - I can find only a "address.mdb" file, but no updated .aba file - Is there a way to restore this file or find a backup? I cannot imagine how it just disappeared! I no longer use the Zire handheld as it broke, please help!
    Thank you

If Thunderbird will accept .csv or .tab file formats you can export the data in those formats from PD. Use the following procedure to export your data.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.

  • Only want2use iCal+Address book with iSynch and Memos+Tasks with Palm T/X

I was using Tungsten T2 and isync happily. I was using isync to use the address book and iCal and when I synched it also synched the palm info in the Calendar and address book in my Palm desktop. The memos and tasks in Palm desktop also worked properly.
I upgraded my palm to T/X and have had many problems with deletion of categories on the handheld, duplication of task and diary entries, address entries with weird symbols added that need to be deleted, desktop memos and tasks not updating. iCal seemed to work OK but the palm desktop calendar did not display any future entries. Is this normal.
I removed isync and after resorting everything on the device - enabled all conduits for palm and resynced. So now everything seems to work properly.
My main questions are: what did I do wrong for this to happen which led to me spending hours sorting everything out on the palm device manually?
And: Is there a way to keep everything synching on the palm device AND iCal and address book for palm?
And: If not: Is there a way to use iCal and address book for mac AND keep you tasks and memos synching on the palm desktop? As I prefer the palm software for tasks as I have several categories for my tasks and do not allocate tasks on given days.
Thanks for reading and I hope to hear some quality advice from you soon. Matt

Starting with your last question about first synchronizing with the Palm Desktop calendar and then later with the Mark/Space Events conduit, the answer is no. Your first synchronization with any of the three Mark/Space conduits—whether one, a pair or the more conventional all three—requires that you overwrite the handheld with that data type using that Mark/Space conduit.
You should read this article about the limitations between the display and transfer of calendar events between Palm devices and iCal:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93172
Understanding those limitations, you should selectively 'fix' the events in iCal so that they are represented properly in iCal. You will have to live with the limitations of such event display on your Palm. If you 'fix' them on your Palm, you will only create additional issues when they are synchronized with iCal using either iSync or the Missing Sync.
Old repeating events can be 'rescheduled' in iCal by selecting the event and changing the end date, or they can be deleted, though that will result in their deletion from your Palm device. That's one reason that it is important to take that last 'snapshot' with the Palm Desktop, so that you can refer to historic data if you need to.
It's also important to think about why you would want to carry possibly hundreds of aged events around in the Palm of your hand. Realistically, why would you want handheld access to data older than say, one year? After installing the Missing Sync, you can double-click on the Mark/Space Events conduit and optionally limit the transfer of events from iCal to your handheld. You simply select the drop-down menu labeled Ignore desktop events older than: and choose from an interval of 1, 2, 4 or 8 weeks, 6 months or 1 year, instead of the default Sync All option.
That technique is another method to deal with historic data, because the 'misrepresented' events older than will not be transfered from iCal to your handheld even during that initial synchronization where your handheld data is overwritten, if you select one of those delimiters.
Mark/Space recognizes groups and categories in iCal and the Address Book when using a Palm OS 5 or later device which supports them. iSync ignores them, because groups and categories are not mapped in the iSync Palm Conduit.

  • Sync Palm desktop to Address Book

Can I sync contacts from my palm desktop into address book

If you import according my previous post the comments will end up in the note field. You will also get the contact's Palm category in the note field. You may or may not want that info and you would have to manually go through and delete it. You can import another way to have more control over the imported data.
Go into Palm Desktop and export as a "Tab & Return" format. Then go to Address Book and select import "Text File". A window will come up with a list of all the fields in both Address Book and Palm Desktop. You can then select which fields in Address Book the info in Palm Desktop should go into.
One of the down sides to importing this way is that address or phone labels may not be correct. For example, if you have a home phone as the first phone number in one contact's info and a work number in the next contact's info, when they import they will both have the same label. Since they are both the first phone number whatever label you assign in the import window (Home, Work, Other...) will apply to both.
Importing vCards will keep your labels straight. Either method has its plusses and minuses, there is no perfect one.
    Hopefully that helps.

  • How can I sync my Address Book and ICal with Mac and PC with Palm Desktop?

I now have the IPhone and I love it!!! But I have some issues and need help please. I have a PC at work and a Mac at home. In the PC I use the Palm Desktop Version 4.1.4 and I have there all my contacts (more than 1,100), all my date book (since 1998) and all my memos (about 600). I want to see what would be the best way get rid of my Palm Handheld and have only the IPhone, but I have encountered some problems and many steps. Everyday I have to sync the Palm Handheld at work, then sync the Palm Handheld at home with my Mac (using The Missing Sync, but it takes a long time every time), then sync the IPhone. Can you please help me??? How can I sync my data from my PC (Palm Desktop) with the IPhone? Another, thing; I do not want to use Outlook at work because the information that I want to sync (Palm) is my personal data and I want to keep using the Palm software for that.

    aflores48,
Unfortunately, the iPhone is not designed to sync with Palm software. As stated in the minimum system requirements, the iPhone can sync with Outlook (2003, 2007 or Express) on a PC, or with iCal and Entourage on a Mac. If you do not want to use Outlook on the PC, you can sign up for a free Yahoo account and sync with Yahoo Address Book. Yahoo Address Book can be used to sync from PC or Mac. More information on the minimum system requirements for the iPhone can be found here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305703
More information about syncing the iPhone with your computer (including Yahoo Address Book) can be found here:

  • Help! Lost in space with simple problem: my Palm Vx address book no longer opens on my laptop, Inspiron 2650. What do I need to do?

i have not used my PalmVx in a few years; however, the database on my Laptop, Inspiron 2650, continued to work until recently.  Now it reads:  'the selected port com4 is not available at this time'    and ''Error:Failed to open address book'   Does anyone know how I get my address book to open again?  The 'directions for dummies' works best for me as i am clueless.  Many thanks to the kind soul who responds to this email. I've tried online answers for last three hours. to no avail.   Anybody..thank you in advance!

Hi, Poeta. Thank you in advance for responding.  Six hours later and I  fear I"m getting no where fast.  When I clicked on my Palm icon, it read what i emailed you:  'the selected port com4 is not available at this time'    and ''Error:Failed to open address book'  .  So, an hour ago, i uninstalled and reinstalled.  now  a Palm Pilot database/calendar, et al pops up, but NONE OF MY information is there..  In truth, my PalmVx database has not worked on my laptop for one year (since 2008).  my handheld has not functioned for a few years - the handheld  keeps telling me to 'use stylus to tap center of target'. which is what it told me the first day i opened it in 1999.  My PRIORITY is accessing my PalmVx database on my laptop and would appreciate your help in how to Reactivate it.  Let me know what you need from me.  Again, I am a simpleton when it comes to this tech stuff. Thank you so very much for your thoughtfulness and expertise.

  • List of email clients/address books that will sync with palm desktop 6.2

Is there (and if not, I think there should be) a list somewhere of email clients whose address books will sync with a palm Treo (palm Desktop version 6.2)? I have been happily using various palm handhelds for about 6 years now and have been syncing the address book with Mozilla and now Thunderbird  for the last couple years. I currently have an m130, but it's time to upgrade to a "smart phone" as I'm tiering of carrying around two devices. Unfortunately, the Treo requires palm Desktop version 6.2 which is not compatible with the Thunderbird palm sync. I have had the idea that Outlook (which I've never used or been exposed to) will sync with palm, but something I read gave me the impression that I would need to buy some third party software to make that happen, plus the $110 they want for Outlook. I would like to think there are other choices for someone who just wants to sync their smart phone with their email client's address book. It seems that such syncing ability would be esential to palm's sales and that a listing of all such syncing possibilities would be extremely beneficial to sales, particularly for new sales to people aren't already insiders on this sort of topic. The lack of ability to sync with Thunderbird may just cause me to stick with my old m130 awhile longer and give up on the idea of a nice new smart phone.

    View Solution.

Wow, thanks a bunch! You just saved me from a long, involved, and discouraging search for an alternative. I'm using WindowsXP, palm m130, palm desktop 4.1, Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 and Thunderbird's palm sync conduit palmsync-2.0.0.x-wsm .  I'm wanting to purchase a Treo 700 on ebay, but went to the palm site, clicked on the support link, then the Treo 700, then the downloads tab and it directed me to desktop 6.2, which made me believe I would have to use that to sync a treo 700.
I do wish that both palm and Thunderbird would talk more about the palm Thunderbird palm sync. Unless you're a real geek or very determined (I'm the later), you're not likely to find out that such capability exists. I can't believe I'm the only one out there who needs to have my email client address book contacts with me all the time, so there has to be others who are looking for this.
Next stop, ebay - I have a smart phone to buy.

  • How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?

    Hello,
How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?
I have a Palm Tungsten E handheld which just died.
Luckily, all my data is backed-up on my Palm Desktop V4.2.1.
I just bought an iPod-Touch, so I would like to easily transfer
all my data (Addressbook, Calendar, etc) from the Palm Desktop
on my Mac (OSX 10.5) to the equivalent Mac applications
(Address Book, iCal) which will then allow me to view and update
    them on my iPod-Touch.
How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    David

Hi David. The contact information is straightforward. Bring up your Address List in Palm Desktop, then select Export under file. You pick vCard as the format, and save the resulting file where ever. In Address Book, you then select Import --> vCards under file. You may need to edit things like birthdays by hand afterwards.
I am still working on the Calendar information.
