It all started with Itune issues...

First Itune kept shutting down when opening. Then I began having issues opening certain files. Now iphoto is having trouble. When I try to access material from my computer to put on the web it only allows for me to use the keyboard arrows and won't allow for me to actually post material.

My itunes crashes when I try to sync my iphone or ipad.  Tried lots of restarts, safe mode, deauthorizing and reauthorizing, deleting backups.  Time Machine reverts to current itunes.  It's off to the genius bar tomrrow with all my stuff.  Imac running Lion, Ipad 1, iphone 4, all updated on software.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (If you've got XP, although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

Unless you have the source files that were on the TC or Windows machine you will have to start over with a new library as follows:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.  Your original library will remain intact for further attempts at fixes is so desired.

    Restart your computer
While your computer is restarting, clear all of the applications from the background on your iPhone. You can do this by pushing the home button twice and swiping the programs off the screen by pushing them upwards.
After you are done doing that, restart your phone.
Wait about 10 seconds or so and turn your phone back on. By the time you get your phone back on your computer should be completly restarted and ready to go.
When your phone is back on, plug it into your computer. This should automatically bring up your Itunes, you may get another pop up that says autoplay, you can close that out. That's it. I hope it helps and good luck

If you have Apple Care or your computer is still under warranty, give them a call and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • New software update still not downloading.  Apps updates have all downloaded since iTunes issue resolved.  Is the software issue also related to this, or is there another problem?  This is on my iPhone 6, not my Mac.

Trying to download the iOS 8.2 software update on my iPhone 6, but it won't update.  All app updates have resolved since the iTunes issue was resolved.  Is the software update issue related to this as well, or is it another problem entirely?
I've synced it to iTunes, turned it off/on, etc., but still not downloading.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi DebC64,
So is the iOS 8.2 update not downloading to your iPhone, computer or both?
You have synced it to iTunes, that is an option to update if it's not updating wirelessly.  Please see if other steps help.

  • HT4623 Had to restore phone.  It's stuck at activate.  All started with backing up, told to update, update, told error, restore, told couldn't complete.

I went to backup phone on desktop.  Got message that I needed to update.  Back-up first.  After backup, went to update system.  As it was in process of updating, said there was an error and would have to restore.  Phone showed image of usb connected to phone.  Only alternative seemed to be to restore.  Followed directions to restore, then started reactivation process.  got as far as third step and then got error message athat " Your iPhone could not be actiated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes."
I did try to connect with itunes but get an error message there as well.  "Your request couldn't be processed.  We are sorry but there was an error processing your request.  Please try again later."
This has been going on for over an hour.
How do I get the phone reactivated and restored to its programs?

Has the phone been jailbroken before you updated it? If yes, this could be the reason for your error.

  • It all started with 'clearing disk space'.

    Hey guys,
So i'm having this grey blank screen problem.
    1) It started off while i was trying save some documents, didn't work so I went to Disk Utility, cleared the free space and then it was fine.
    2) I then tried to surf the web on safari. Some sites couldn't load and some sites did and all of a sudden, my mac just hanged.
I tried to restart/shut down my mac through Finder and it just didn't restart/shutdown so I used the power button instead.
Lo and behold, it took so long to boot and when it did it came to a blank screen.
I did everything I could find on this support page.
    1) Ran it in safe nothing happened
    2) Ran it in recovery, nothing came out
    3) Then it came to a grey screen when I tried rebooting it so i did the PRAM thing and that brought my mac back up.
So to check on it I did an 'EtreCheck' and here it is, seems to be... okay?

To run Diagnostics, you can use the D key during power up.
    Using Apple Hardware Test
Using Apple Diagnostics (for machines after June 2013)
According to last EtreCheck you do not seem to have disk space issues. You can run it again to validate what you have.

  • ILife broken! All started with iMovie problem, any ideas?

I have posted in the iMovie 6HD forums about a problem of it slowing down to a crawl and no one has been able to resolve that issue. I spoke to several employees at the Apple store about the problem & they ran it past a 'Genius' who didn't suggested reinstalling the entire iLife suite.
I did that yesterday and now none of the iLife suite will even open. When you click the dock there is 1 bounce and nothing happens. Dbl click the icon in the finder, it acts like its opening, but nothing happens. What went wrong? I've never had Apple software ever act this way.
I reinstalled the iLife software twice to no avail. Please help!
    Thanks,
    Mark

Did you run the suggested 3-pass Memtest? What did it report? What did the AHT say? If you believe that the hardware is OK, then it is a software issue. If so, and you have done a clean install from the ground up... things are indeed looking bad for you.
I would first run the 3-pass Memtest in single user mode as the instructions outline. This test alone will take several hours... unless your "lucky" enough to have an easily identifiable bad memory block. After that, and assuming the AHT passed everything it is now time to start from scratch. Install the OS and nothing but the OS. Do a clean install, not an archive and install (again, make sure everything is backed up to another drive). Take the new install out for a spin- does everything seem OK? Then start installing apps one at a time. If the iLife apps are your main apps, install them, run all the updates, and then repair permissions. Now how are the iLife apps responding (if at all)? If installing JUST the iLife apps on a clean install of the OS doesn't work, there is a high probability of a hardware problem which means now a technician would need diagnose the hardware problem. If the iLife apps work without any other software installed, then there is a high probability there is a software conflict with another program. Now it is time to install one program at a time trying out the iLife (iMovie) apps until you see which program is causing the conflict.

  • The whole situation starting with Itunes 11, ending with updating system?

    Here's the whole deal:
Put in an itunes gift card. I hit the buy button, nothing happens. I call apple tech. They tell me to update to Itunes 11. I attempt to do that, Itunes 11 tells me I need to run 10.6.5 or later for that to work. I'm running 10.6.2. I do the software updates, they don't take. I tried again today and was told I need to remove files from my startup disc on the machine to create room (except i've already done the updates). I am confused and have no idea what I need to do to fix.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Soo, maybe it isnt possible bug, but the way Apple have changed iTunes when going to v11. Stooopid
Anyway, found this link about downgrading to an earlier version. I've just completed it and found one or two "errors" in the method, which I'll detail below
    http://www.emacconsulting.com/apple/itunes/downgrade-itunes-11-to-itunes-10-7/
In the latter part of the instructions
    11) Open your iTunes Music Folder.
If you never moved your iTunes folder it’s located here:
    Your HD/Your User/Music/iTunes
Or go to the Finder type:  Command + Shift + G
Paste this into the the dialog:  ~/Music/iTunes
If you moved it to another hard drive, you will know where to locate your iTunes folder.
    12) Open the “Previous iTunes Libraries” folder.
    13) Find the most recent copy of the “iTunes Library 2012-xx-xx.itl” file.
Normally it will the last file at the bottom of the list.
    14) Drag a copy of the file into the iTunes folder.
    15) Delete the “iTunes Library” file.
    16) Change the name of the “iTunes Library 2012-xx-xx.itl” to ”iTunes Library” with no .itl extension.
    In #11, I simply went to "My HD"/Users/"My User"/Music/iTunes
Copied the latest .itl and moved it up a directory level
The old file in #15 is called "iTunes Library.itl" - which I renamed, and renamed the copied version back to "iTunes Library.itl" = though I do have extensions showing, some people may not and hence wont see the .itl
Anyway all is fixed in my world, and when I launched v10.7, it asked me if I wanted to upgrade to v11 - I said No and not to prompt me again. Playcount issue is resulved, as is changing SmartList criteria with playback continuing
Apple - please correct these bugs before releasing any new versions of iTunes... you've made a very large number of people unhappy

  • How to get started with iTunes/iMatch

I am trying to import my library of 3000 mp3 songs into iTunes/iMatch/iCloud. I have subscribed to iMatch. The problem is that there doesn't appear to be any guidance about how to do this, what the difference between iTunes, iMatch, and iCloud is, where the music is stored, and so on.  The only thing I found was an article on the iTunes support site that said "Using iMatch is easy."  I didn't find that to be the case.
I have now created an unholy mess that I have no idea how to get out of.   My iTunes media folder has four albums in it, all of which have one copy of some of the songs in AAC (m4a) format.  Meanwhile, in iTunes, I have seven albums, some of which are in my iTunes library and some of which aren't.  When I look at the music collection in iTunes, I have four or five copies of each song.  I am really unclear where these songs are residing (in the Cloud maybe?), why there are so many copies, and so on.
Obviously, just randomly flailing is not going to solve this problem.  So are there in fact any instructions for how to do this rather simple task and keep everything organized and understand what is going on?

First, iCloud and iTunes Match (not "iMatch") are not the same thing. Apple uses the term "iCloud" interchangably, but that is just confusing for most people, unfortunately.
Enabling iTunes Match is as simple pulling down the Store menu in iTunes and selecting "turn on iTunes Match." That's all the guidance there is. The process will then scan the iTunes library and "match" or "upload" all the tracks it can. The original tracks on the computer's internal HDD stay right where they are and are not changed in any way. Nor is the location of the iTunes library magically changed to the cloud.
I strongly suggest you stop being concerned with what the files in the iTunes Media folder look like and let iTunes manage the files. If you're going to use iTunes then you should only interact with the music through iTunes. Trying to manage the files in the Finder/Windows Explorer is only going to frustrate you. You can group albums together by editing the ID3 tags by highlighting the tracks of an Album and doing a Get Info...
So if you post back with some specific questions we will do our best to help you.

  • It all started with the updating, now my nano is DEAD

I updated itunes to the most recent version, and when I synced my ipod, the songs were all gone. I followed the directions and got the songs back from the library. They were replaced on my ipod when I sync'd it and then when I updated the podcasts the next day, none of them were transferring over to the ipod. So I tried the reset, then I tried to update the computer software on the ipod. I got an error message with this step saying there was a problem with a corrupt file or something now I forget.
AND Now it's dead. If I try to turn on the ipod I get a file with an explanation point and the support website. If it's plugged into the computer the "do not disconnect" symbol stays on the ipod and the itunes never recognizes that it's there. Does anyone know what happened???

Have you tried reseting by pressing and holding menu +pause?????
