It doesn't make any sense (trouble adding new songs/podcasts)

Hi all
When I add new songs to my Ipod shuffle, some will play, some won't. When I try to add some podcasts, I can't add them directly by dragging and dropping, so I had to create a new playlist where I can add some new podcasts. And some will play, and some won't.
By the way, I can't see a whole list of files "inside" the ipod. Instead, I see them in two separated screens.
OS: Windows XP
All podcasts and songs are ok, they can be listened to when played on iTunes
Already changed options for podcasts, so they will play when playing in random order.
iPod shows up in iTunes when pluged in
Used apple stuff for some time now.
I used a ipod shuffle 2nd gen for some time and no problem at all...

This whole things it has been doing my head in for the last two days...
PS: And sometimes it only plays podcasts. And sometimes only music and no trace of podcasts. As I said... it doesn't make any sense...

PS 2nd: Tried again, now with two podcasts (ok to play random) and one song. Only can listed to the song. No idea why it doesn't play the podcasts.

well, it seems that I have found the solution (i read somewhere, not already checked)
Since ipod shuffle 3G, you have to add podcasts to a playing list, otherwise you can't listen to them.
If I get it solved, I will write here for the next who doesn't receive much help from Apple and has to google the solution.

On another note, can the the sidebar be changed back to the right hand side in preview (when opening PDF's). It has always been on the right in snow leopard and tiger.
It seems to me that their has been too many unnecessary changes in the Lion operating system.

You'd have to ask Apple, no one here would know - we are just users like you and aren't allowed to speculate on these forums. You have quite a bit of company though - many people preferred the color.
And, I've not found a way to put the sidebar back on the right side in Preview, but maybe someone else can chime in with that.

Iphone 3Gs won't update i get an error message that says i am not connected to the internet. i HAVE TRIED ALL THE RECOMENDED TROUBLESHOOTING. ITUNES UPDATE WAS SUCCESSFUL AND I AM NOT HAVING ANY TROUBLE WITH THE ITUNES STORE. SO IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE

When I go to sync my iphone 3gs itunes alerts me that an update is available. I check to download an update. I then receive an error message stating that I am not connected to the internet. I am 100% positive that I am connected and before this download I was instructed to update itunes which I did without any problems and restarted my computer. I have tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions. I have no problem syncing or using the itunes store. I just can't get the update. I also have no problems with my iphone connecting to a wireless internet connection. Please Help!!!!!!

Not all carriers unlock their phones. They are under no legal obligation to do so in many places.

The t.v. show I'm trying to watch won't load. It doesn't make any sense because I can watch everything else.

The T.V. show I'm trying to watch on my MACBOOK AIR won't load. I got it from the iTunes store last night. I'm not complaining that it's slow.It pauses halfway through when I try to watch it. And yet everything else has loaded. HELP!
p.s. every thing before that episode is nice and black. So are the first 11 episodes. Everything after that is grayed out but I could still watch it. But why?

If your apps are up-to-date then there is nothing to download to update...the app store is telling you there is nothing for you to download.

I lost my Download Stacks option. Now it is just a Download folder. Need to find out how to get the Download Stacks option back. Previous answers to this question don't make any sense to me. Please help in explicit detail. PS I'm using Mountain Lion.

And if what WZZZ suggests doesn't work (and hopefully it will) move the file name below to the desktop, log out or restart and the Dock preferences with its defaults should be recreated. You'll need to re-configure it as you like it:
com.apple.dock.plist
It's located: in Finder hold the Alt/Option key and from the Go menu select Library>Preferences.
If it fixes things, delete the file on your desktop.

I think they're trying to say that he doesn't have enough accounts and with only one reporting (with a balance of course), that's their common answer.

Will it make any sense to create materialized view on top of a MOLAP cube?

We have developed few MOLAP cubes for our reporting environment.
Now we are planning to create materialized with query rewrite enabled for faster performance?
Is this a correct approach? Will it make any sense? I mean will i get any performance improvement if i create MV on top of a MOLAP cube?

Adding a rewrite MV does not change the raw performance of a cube. The only reason to add one is if you want to write your SQL queries against the base relational tables and have the database rewrite your queries against the cube. If you are able to query the cube views directly, then there is no particular benefit to a rewrite MV.
Adding a refresh-only MV does have benefits even if your queries use the cube views. A refresh-only MV tracks the staleness of the cube and lets you run 'fast' refreshes, which can be useful if you are only modifiying a handful of rows in your fact table.

How do I get my old Foxfire layout back, because I can not find any where to click that makes any sense. Really bad design, none functional with out some very indepth information to mmove me through it. Very bad design.

I have Vista for an OS, I was running Foxfire 3.4 when it started to freeze after opening the internet the first time and forced me to open the internet again to have function. The first one could not be interacted with at all, not even to close it.
I loaded Foxfire 4 and now can not even understand the layout. Nothing makes any sense at all. Where are all the normal features? Where do my open in new tab s go and how the hell do I get to them? I am too frustrated to even accept the new interface. I want the old interface back.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:

Windows XP can't import video files larger than 500 MB using Camera and Scanner Wizard. You can transfer these files from your device by selecting them in My Computer and dragging or copying the files to your computer's hard drive.

1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

Polipo wiki page doesnt make any sense to me, please help?

Im trying to follow the wiki page to set up polipo but this page is completely confusing.
First it says
While other daemons start as root and drop priviledges as soon as possible, polipo runs as the user that invoked it. If polipo is invoked from /etc/rc.d/polipo, change the invokation line from
/usr/bin/$DAEMON $ARGS >/dev/null 2>&1
to
su -c "/usr/bin/$DAEMON $ARGS" -s /bin/sh polipo >/dev/null 2>&1
It is then also necessary to change ownership and/or permissions of several files and directories written by polipo:
* the log file /var/log/polipo. Although a better choice is to create a directory /var/log/polipo owned by the designated user and set polipo's log file to /var/log/polipo/polipo.log via the logFile variable in the config file.
* the pid file at /var/run/polipo/polipo.pid and the directory that hosts it
* the cache directory /var/cache/polipo and all of the contained files
Then a bit further down it says
Polipo can also run without super user privileges. To do so, first copy /etc/polipo/config.sample to a suitable directory:
$ cp /etc/polipo/config.sample ~/.poliporc
Edit it so that it points at a writable location, instead of /var/cache/polipo:

"polipo wiki page sucks" seems pretty damn informative to me, considering that my problem is with the polipo wiki page being confusing.
If I were being childish I would post unhelpful messages in other peoples threads because I have too much time on my hands.
It seems to me that you do not understand the instructions on the wiki page.
It is, the way I read it, very clear.
You CAN run polipo from /etc/rc.d but it will run as root. However, it is clearly stated that "Polipo should run as an unpriviledged user" (emphasis added by me) and as a consequence you are guided to configure polipo to run as such.
Just to make sure the directions work I set polipo EXACTLY as directed and it works.
I think that if you follow the instructions you will find the same.
It tells you to modify /etc/rc.d/polipo to run as unprivelaged user polipo. Doesnt that make the second part about configuring as a regular user redundant?
Dont restrict yourself to the Arch wiki - it's good, but not authoritative. Have a look around for other relevant docs, ideally prepared by the polipo devs themselves. Get in touch with other polipo users (on any distro) and seek clarification that way.
When you have found what you are looking for, and successfully set up your polipo install, come back to the wiki and make any necessary changes.

I am having trouble syncing new songs to my ipad mini. I tunes says 151 are on the ipad yet only 120 are on the actual ipad.

I am having trouble syncing my ipad mini with itunes. I have done it before and no problem. Now it lists that I have 151 songs on my ipad but there are only 120 on the actual ipad. The new playlists I tried to add are not on it. Am I missing a step.

That alone does not mean the movies are in an iPad compatible format either.

Try this. With one of these videos selected in iTunes, at the iTunes menu bar go to Advanced and select Create iPad or Apple TV version. This will duplicate the selected video in an iPad compatible version. Select this version to be transferred to your iPad to see if this makes any difference.

Adding new songs to Ipod

Every time I want to add new songs through Itunes to my ipod it says I have to restore it and then I end up re-adding all my songs because everything get erased. Does any one know why this happens or what I can do so it won't happen?

By default the iPod is set to "automatically manage songs and playlists", whatever changes you make in iTunes are reflected on the iPod the next time you connect it. However if the library is different to what's on the iPod you need to change that setting to "manually manage songs and playlists" but first you need to prevent it auto-syncing and erasing the tracks off your iPod.
One way to do this is to use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to remember about manually updating though is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod and return them to iTunes. This is just a selection, have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.
