It doesn't seem like my new macbook pro has a battery

I got my new MacBook Pro 13-inch LED-backit widescreen notebook about a week ago. The first time i tried it, I plugged the Power Adapter in the whole time i used it. The next morning i tried using it, but this time i didn't have it plugged in. It wouldn't turn on. So, i plugged it in and then it worked fine. I searched for the problem and then i noticed that on the top right corner, the battery sign had an X on it. I clicked it and it said "No Batteries Available | Power Source: Power Adapter". i did a little experiment. i plugged off the Power Adapter during the middle of me using it and it completely shut down. I figured that it didn't come with a battery when i bought it. Is this normal and do i have to buy the battery seperately?

Absolutely not normal - check one more thing:
Go to the Apple in the menu bar and click on About this Mac, then on more info. Click on System Report. In the resulting window, click on Power and see what is listed there (hopefully the battery) - post the results here. If there is something wrong with the battery, call Apple - you have 90 day phone support (and a year hardware warranty) and/or book an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar.
FWIW, the new laptops have batteries built in (not accessible by user).

Turn off Find My iPhone in iCloud on the iDevice.
Log out of iMessage, Facetime, remove Apple ID from iTunes & App Store.
Use Settings > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Then set it up as a new iPhone with your own Apple ID.

This is the second macbook pro i have owned in the past two weeks.  I am ready to return it for good if this is a chronic issue. Please help if you have had this same issue.

    Try a SMC reset:

    Try a NVRAM/PRAM reset:

If no joy, take it back, and take full advantage of your warranty!

You can connect USB 3 components to you MB if you wish to use them but will only run at USB 2 specs.

  • My macbook pro has service battery, what could happen if i upgrade the ram to 8gb

My macbook pro has service battery, what could happen if i upgrade the ram to 8gb

"Service Battery" means just that - you need to make an appointment with your local Apple Store or AASP and have the battery checked out and, likely, replaced.
If you upgrade to 8GB it will have no effect on the battery. 8GB is sort of the minimum that I would shoot for.

  • I Actually Like My New Macbook Pro

While there has been a lot of negative posts about Apple's decisions regarding the new Macbook and Macbook Pro, I have to say that I love my new Macbook Pro. For some reason I can type faster on the new keyboard and I prefer the feel of the keys to the metal of my old Macbook. I installed Halo and it runs like a champ even on the lower graphic settings. The trackpad is different, but it is a natural transition and isn't as strange as I had imagined. The gloss screen is similar to other gloss screens. I think it is great for watching video, but I am not a professional photographer. All in all, it is a welcomed update. The macbook on the other hand wouldn't work due to the lack of firewire. Anyway, I thought I would contribute a positive note. BTW, the firewire 800 migration worked great.

I have to say I am also loving my new macbook pro. I had a white macbook for a year and a half and about 10 days ago, I upgraded to a macbook pro (previous generation) as I did not know there even was talk of new ones coming out. I then learned shortly after there was a new one coming out. So I had only had my old one for 10 days when they announced this tuesday, so I had the option of taking it back. I did, although I was unhappy I couldn't find a store around me that sold 1066 MHZ DDR3 yet, so I had to pay the 150 for apple to do it. I LOVE the build quality, the one piece construction is MUCH sturdier. I sometimes "one-hand" my macbook, and I always worried about stress on the old macbook/macbook pro when holding in one hand by the palm rest, with this one, it doesn't even creek or feel like it is being stressed. You can now buy the old gen macbook pro, new for 1599 on clearance, so I am not 100% sure its worth the 400, but I do love the chicklet keyboard over the macbook pro old-gen style. I had glossy on both the macbook and prev-macbook pro on it, I am a software developer (Windows Developer on my mac in parallels) and I dont know what the fuss about the glossy is, I stare at my computer 10 hours a day and I have no problems...im still out on the trackpad, new gestures are cool, but I have to get used to not resting my "clicking" finger on the keypad as it causes un-wanted gestures, but I am a "tap-to-click" type user anyways, so its not that bad. I also think the trackpad is a little less responsive than the old ones, especially with greasy or more-moist fingers. But my biggest dislike is the black-color, it seems it would have been just as easy to make it an "aluminum" color, it does cheapen the look a little.

  • How do you like the new macbook pro?

I got a new macbook pro on monday this week. I just found a few of questions, but it was okay. Before I've already changed computers for many times or just went to apple store to ask what problem this computer had. Now I feel a little bit tired to go again. I have always asked myself. Do I really need to buy Apple or buy another brand PC. So, I want to know what you guys think?

I picked mine up on the day they were released. The only issue I have had is two freezes and one strange sound during one of the freezes. But, I have had no issues in the past two weeks so I'm very happy. I will admit that this is the first glossy display I have owned in the fourteen years I've had a computer and it takes some getting used to.
Rather than going into the Apple Store to ask a question, perhaps posting a specific question here may help. I've read about problems people are having with the updated MB and MBP but Apple seems to be trying to fix these issues quickly.

  • My new MacBook Pro has display problems

I am new to Mac. I had purchased a brand new MacBook Pro 13 inches with i7 processor on April2 this year, Within 10 days the display screen started to grey out and later  on develop horizontal lines. I telephoned Apple support and when a telephonic solution  became unlikely I was asked to take it to an Apple Authorized service centre in my town. The technician there could not clearly explain to me what was wrong with the system, but I understood him to say that he has reinstalled the graphics driver and the system was trouble free for a prolonged time thereafter (at the service centre). I also understood him to say that should the problem recur again, he would have to replace the motherboard. I was on a travelling tour for a week after this and was not able to test out this repair (I took my old windows system with me for the travel) To my utter dismay the problem has recurred again after 28 days of purchase. I have attached screenshots. The button for uploaing videos is greyed out therefore  I will have to restrict myself to screenshots. All the three screen images occcur
in turn and the system becomes unusable and I have to use the poweroff button. The display problems start within 10 minutes of switiching on the system.
I took some time to discover these forums. The first time this problem occurred on my machin I posted this problem on mac-forums and I was advised to take it to an Apple store and let the apple genius bar worry about this one. I do not live wihtin any sort of manageable distance from such a place and the repair centre is an Apple Authorized Service Provider
Coming to the emotional aspects of this technological glitch. I feel like I have been hit by a truck.I had saved and scraped pennies to buy this dream machine and I believed I was escaping the ficleness of windows. But no windows system of mine (I have three) become so unusable
Will I have to spend time and effort to lug this machine to service centre to replace each of its component parts one by one ? Can I ever trust this machine to provide a presentation to an audience? What sort of an impression will I create if the system plays this trick on me in the middle of some presentation?

Shootis007, What is CC company? I googled CC and got many different answers.
I called Apple Support and told them my story and pressed for replacement and they told me repeatedly that there is no policy for replacement. The initial support person who attended my call asked me to take it to the seller and ask the seller for replacement. I dont think that is the way to go. I dont know what is his fault. He gave me a brand new system, the package was opened by me. Since I am new to Mac, I had taken a Mac user friend with me who showed me how to get started (right there in the shop) Neither the experienced Mac user friend nor I felt anything remiss at that time or later at the Seller level. Nevertheless I called the reseller and he explained his helplessness. I dont think it his fault at all.
Since I kept insisting on replacment I was put through to another support person who took pains to reassure me that I should get the defective part replaced and thereafter all will be well. For now I trust him. I have no other alternative
I really am puzzled. All you dear Mac users should know that the machine I dreamed of and really saved to purchase is giving me no end of troubles whereas my three windows machines sit there with their numerous stated deficiencies but gives me uninterrupted service

Try just holding down the power key to power off - you may have some files that migrated, maybe, maybe not.
You won't hurt anything - just have to try MA again if it doesn't work the first time.

  • New MacBook Pro 2012 with battery health at 92%

    Hi everyone!
Few weeks ago I bought brand new MacBook Pro (2012, 13"). After 12 cycles the battery health significantly decreased to 92%. Quite unexpected, isn't? Could you advise me what can be a problem? AC adapter, socket in my wall or something else?
To answer your questions, I did not put the battery below 10% during this time.
Thanks in advance for any hints!

You have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.

  • New MacBook Pro has trouble reading DVD

Our new MacBook Pro will not automatically open a DVD when it is inserted. Had to go through DVD player and it said it did not recognize format. Had to manually select the app for it to play. DVD player is 5.1.1. Is this a bug? Linda

One DVD or all? Commercial DVD? One you burned? One you found lying on the street? More details would help...
Assuming you mean this occurs with multiple (all) commercial DVD movies, go to System Preferences > CDs & DVDs and set the 'When you insert a video DVD:' pop-up menu to Open DVD Player.

  • New Macbook Pro has changed identities

Not sure exactly which device has caused the problem - we have two iphone 4S, two iPads, and an iMac - one of which has led my new Macbook Pro to think it belongs to my wife.  Though I did not enter her name when registering the computer, when I install new software, her name always comes up as the default name in the registration box.  I assume that either something cloud related has done this - since none of her devices have been physically plugged into the new Macbook Pro - or, less likely, that our home network is somehow involved.  Just need help determining which device is the most likely culprit, and maybe some help keeping our clouds separate?

The cloud was my first thought.  Since posting initially, I've noticed that a couple of programs downloaded on the iMac have shown up in downloads on the MacBook.  I just need to be able to build some sort of firewall between the two machines.  New enough to Mac that I'm not even clear where cloud settings are, and how to make adjustments to them.

  • Seems like non retina macbook pro is more expensive than retina macbook pro!

MacBook Pro 15-inch 2.6 GHz is $2,299.00 with the Antiglare Widescreen Display now. If I wanna upgrade it with Crucial 16GB kit ($80) and 256GB Crucial m4 2.5" SSD with Data Transfer Kit ($220) it's gonna coast $2,599.00 all together.  On the other hand, with the base Retina version with the upgrades (2.6 GHz, 16GB) from Apple It only coasts 2,499.00.  I even save $100 for my external DVD burner if I want to get one. Most people say on this forum non retina is cheaper than retina MAcbook pro but I couldn't figure it out how please tell me if I am missing anything!
I have been looking for most discussions in this forum about retina and non retina Macbook pro.  Most people think that upgrading is the biggest issue with the Retina Macbook pro but can we upgrade the non retina version more than 16GB?  if we can't it's not an issue.  With the SDD I guess we can go with the external ones if we really need one and I assume that external SSD's are going to get cheaper in the time too or we can get external USB3 / Thunderbolt hard drives.  I just decided to purchase one of these Macbook pro and started looking for more information online to figure out which one is better but I got more confused because the numbers say the Retina is cheaper and upgrading is not that big of a deal but most people who know about Apple products more than me on this forum say non Retina is cheaper and it can be upgraded after purchasing it.
I might be wrong with my thoughts but I need some info about upgrading. What rigs can I upgrade with the non retina Macbook pro?
(Only RAM and Hard drive or more than that?)  I would like to know your thoughts and advises too?
    Thanks for your help!
I am thinking of getting one of these for video editing (Final cut pro X)!

Yep, the only things that you can upgrade on the non-Retina models is the RAM and the HD/SSD. I'm assuming that your calculations are correct, so you've just got to decide if you want to the Retina display model or not. For me, there have been too many issues with the Retina models to buy one just now - but I'm sure that there are a lot of happy Retina owners out there - we only hear from those having problems.

  • New macbook pro has a lot of spinning ball

    Hello everyone.
I am completely new in the Mac world and I dreamed for my Macbook pro for years so I hope you will understan my frustration.
    At the end of July I purchased a mid 2012 15 inch non-retina mbp - 2,6gb, 4mb ram, 500 gb hd.
Ever since I got it I experienced the spinning ball quite often. But because of my wish for perfection tried not to pay any attention to that.
Then 2 months later suddenly the SD card reader stopped working. So I brought it back to the shop and also complained about the spinning ball. They changed the logical board and told me everything will be fine now. Should not see any spinnig ball anymore.
I gave it a try for the weekend to do some projects where I had to use programs such as Adobe Ilustrator and Photoshop as well as Word, however the spinning ball was still there. Quite often it actually appears just by opening Safari or  Itunes, so not only heavier programs. sometimes just when waning to paste something or opening the Finder.
Brought it back to the shop again saying that it seems slower than my old ASUS that had no more than 4gb of RAM. Besides, this one is a new computer and it is empty, so how can it be so slow already now?
A week later I got it back saying it was a defective Hard drive cable that might have caused it. Changed, spinning wheel should be no longer there.
Gave it another try - spinnig wheel still there!
So now I am wondering - is that normal?
boyfriend says - is it normal, friends say - no, I never see it (still working on Adobe programs as well as having 4gb of ram and 2,4mhz)
My guess is that it might be the RAM? but then again - common, it is a new compter and I have only 50gb of information inside. how can it suffer already? Besidesthat, often the spinning ball appears on random situations in random programs. when I spend my day with the computer I see it like 5-10 times a day.
sometimes when I check the Memory activity the Wired memory goes up to 1,70gb out of my 4gb of RAM. Is that the issue? Once I restart the computer, it goes down again. But this is annyoing, right?
Please share your exprience and opinions,
    Best regards,
    Sarmite

  • My new macbook pro has a dull, yellow tinted screen.

I purchased a (new, with warranty) standard macbook pro 13" on eBay to downsize from my 15" 2010 model, and the screen is notably duller and has a yellow overcast to it. I have tried to calibrate the screen which helps a little bit but it still gets on my nerves and every time i go from looking at my iphones screen to my laptop screen i cant help but notice how it looks. Ive already had the LCD replaced and the screen was just as yellow. From what I've read on here already it seems to be quite difficult to get a proper working screen replacement from Apple but i was wondering did anyone with this problem get it sorted and how they got it sorted? I love Apple and could never go back to a PC but this screen is ruining it for me.
