It had nothing to do with our engineer! Honestly.....

Question

Before Christmas BT came and dug up the path outside our house and since then our phone line had developed a slight crackle. Slowly the crackle got louder and my broadband speed reduced to the level where it was nearly useless. I made the great mistake of calling BT and reporting the fault...
The day after the fault was reported an engineer came to look at the line, we will skip past the part where he was unforgivably rude to my neighbour when he was asked if he could move his van and concentrate on what he did to the phone line. He spent the better part of 2 hours messing around in the box under the path, he then said that someone would have to come back and dig up the path because the fault was likely to be at a connection point under the ground and then he left. When I went to use my laptop I found that I could not conenct to anything, I thought that I'd maybe have to reboot the router so I did that and there was no connection. I then picked up the phone to find that there was no line at all.
I called the BT help line and was greeted by an Indian lady who just could not understand that the line was working before the engineer came and now it was not, eventually I got hold of a supervisor who seemed to just about grasp the concept. Today another engineer has come out and looked at the line and says that the cable is broken and needs replacing but denies that the lack of phone line had anything at all to do with the previous engineer. Strangely I feel disinclined to believe him. I have now been told it could be a week or more before someone comes along to dig the hole and then it will depend on their workload as to how long it takes them to get someone to come along and do anything about the actual fault.
The net result is that I have gone from a crackly phone line with low broadband speeds to NO Phoneline and NO Broadband and probably a 2 week wait before someone does something about it. I now cannot work from home which means anything that crops up will involve a drive into the office rather than quickly jumping on line to solve the problem.
Livid does not even come close to describing how I feel right now!

Sounds like your line was slowly falling apart for some time probably reached the state where looking at it was the last straw so maybe it still worked after the first visit but not for long
Is it a business line or domestic as I think business lines would get priority for faults
I serviced TV,s for a living at one time and all faults were down to the last man who dealt with it yet after a repair to front tyre puncture the one in the rear tyre the next day is not blamed on  mechanic who fixed the first, life's just not fair
