  • Windows Server 2008 black screen with mouse *PLEASE HELP*

    Hello fellow techs,
I have been tearing my hair out for the past 12hrs on this issue.
About 3 weeks ago, one of our clients reported that they were experiencing
issues on the network so one of the staff went into the server room and noticed
the screen was black with only the cursor. As they couldn't reboot, they
decided to hold the power button to power it off. When they powered it back
up, it went passed the windows loading
splash screen, and again the screen is black with
the mouse pointer in the center of the screen.
I am diagnosing the server and find that at the black screen, I’m able to move
the cursor and beyond that nothing happened. I started in safe mode with the
    exact same results.
I have been trying many different solutions from posts that I have found in
    Google but no change.
From other machines you can type \\servername in
the run box and see the shared folders, as well as ping it.
This is a very urgent request as I need to have the Server back up and running
    by tomorrow.
I am quiet willing to pay for phone support with anyone that can assist as soon
as possible. I am happy to transfer founds via Paypal.<o:p></o:p>
    PLEASE HELP!

    Hi,
I agree with sm, you should give us more details. Also you should use sfc  /scannow
command to scans the integrity of all protected system files and repairs files with problems when possible. For more details, please refer to the following article.
    Sfc
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff950779.aspx
Before going further, would you please let me know whether there were any changes on the affected server? Has windows update or any new device been added? Please also check your shadow copies.
The Windows Server black screen may be caused by them.
In addition, there are similar questions, please refer to.

  • Trying to reformat and reinstall windows but get black screen with cursor

Im trying to reformat my computer after a blue screen error and when i pop in my disk to reformat and install it goes through the first stuff...opening files then it says starting windows and then black screen with cursor..nothing else..i can move the
cursor but i cant click anything..nothing happens.

    Hi  Marrik,
Is there any error code or error message displayed in the installation process ? because just based on your description in the post, it is difficult to find the root cause for a black screen even after a clean install, this might be caused by a corrupt installation
media or a hardware issue, so, I give two potential suggestion:
1.Try another Windows installation media and perform a clean install again to  see the result.
2.Go to the computer vendor for hardware support, this also can be caused by a memory or hard disk issue.

  • Windows xp install -- black screen with no cursor

I've seen a number of posts about Boot Camp installation problems involving a black screen with a blinking cursor, but my problem is simply with a black screen. On my MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo (graphics card: ATY,RadeonX1600) I'm able to partition the HD, but then after I'm prompted in Boot Camp to insert the Windows XP install disk, the computer attempts to restart and install, but after a flash of grey screen, the screen goes totally black, and eventually the optical drive powers down (after whirring for a while) -- no cursor, no nothing. I've tried a number of suggestions I've seen elsewhere: my firmware seems up-to-date (at least that's what I'm told when I try to run both EFI and SMC firmware updates); the Windows XP is a brand-new, single-disk, SP2 install disk; I've tried holding down the option key upon reboot and selecting windows start-up. I've used Parallels with no problem under 10.4.X, but recently upgraded to 10.5.2, and thought I'd try a Boot Camp installation for better access to peripherals. Any suggestions?

Hello to all and it wanted to request aid to them on this subject, days ago I acquired a Imac 24"2.4GHZ Aluminum (generation previous to the last ones sent for a month),then it is that I have years with my macbook pro and always I have used bootcamp since was beta in Tiger, so installation experience I believe that I have a little.
The problem is that in it is new machine I have partition my disc with the assistant without no problem, but when it is going to install Windows XP or Vista (the 2 I have them original) and boot the machine, it remains in gray screen and no nothing happens, reason why boot with option pressed and they leave systems both to me, followed this I select Windows and it is hoisted in the screen that nor the leader of the mouse moves.
I have made the procedure as 10 times and proven with different sizes from partition (with its respective disc repair with the DVD of Leopard and the disc assistant) and nothing.
Finally uses WinClone in my macbook pro and clone my partition of Vista Windows, recovers it in the Imac without no problem and it appears to me in startup but the same, I select Windows and there it remains. Fiirmware of the updated machine this and I am in OSX 10.5.3. I have proven everything until changes to the memories and nothing. Them request if somebody has had east problem and to most erudite of the forum I request aid to them to see if they can give me.
Beforehand a million thanks to all,

  • Can't boot to windows, stuck at black screen (with cursor)

Hi! I'll get straight to my problem: I can't boot to Windows (Windows 10 Technical Preview) anymore after installing VirtualBox (or rather, an Android emulator that installed VirtualBox) on my system. I get stuck, after the loading animation with the blue HP logo, on a black screen (I can move my cursor around) but the login screen never shows up.
    The problem.
I'm currently dual-booting linux and windows for several purposes. My laptop came with a Windows 8.1 OS by default. Some time after the Windows 10 Tech Preview came out to public, I upgraded my system to Windows 10 (so my 8.1 is gone now). Everything's going well until I installed this Android emulator (which installed VirtualBox) on Windows 10. Everything seemed fine at first but after rebooting, Windows isn't working anymore. I can still boot to linux, but Windows just won't boot properly.
    What I've tried.
I've tried A LOT of things. The problem actually happened twice already (at first I was able to fix it with System Restore but not this time around). I have a Windows 8 USB Recovery Drive at hand, just so I can access a Windows command line. It's not from my system, though. It came with a new windows 8 laptop of a friend so I just borrowed it.
1: System Restore. This worked the first time. But now the restore won't finish and throws an error, telling me that it can't restore my system.
2: Refresh PC. "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes were made." or something like that.
3: chkdsk on C:\. It says it changed some files, but it doesn't really fix the problem.
4: sfc /scannow. Again, something happened, but it didn't get fixed.
5: bootrec.exe to fix BCD and MBR. Doesn't work. (as far as I know my sytem is using GPT)
6: Hard reset (remove all power sources then hold power button). Still not working.
7: System Restore again. All the restore points aren't working. It reaches a "Finished" state, but then an error comes up after. It says can't extract a specific file, and the restore point is damaged or might have been deleted during restore.
8: checking and fixing bad sectors (nope, no bad sectors on my hard drive)
9: built-in component tests. It passed all of them, except the battery test (my battery really isn't surviving for any duration longer than 30 minutes, but that shouldn't affect my OS). I didn't try the really long tests since I thought it wouldn't matter as my problem is most probably completely software (since linux is still working).
10: cry. oh please. Windows isn't working. What should I do? (
    Things I haven't tried.
1: RAM and CMOS battery reset.
    2: Reset PC.
    3: Format hard drive.
4: Test hard drive on another laptop's system.
If possible I'd like to avoid getting my hard drive wiped, since I have a lot of stuff to backup (more than 300 GB of files + dozens of linux apps and ppas), and I only have a 32GB USB drive to backup all the files I need).
    Thanks for reading.

Sorry for the delay. Wasn't expecting the "road work" signs when attempting to check back with you in the AM here.
As others have already mentioned, the prompt for file systems occurs during text mode setup. Quick or Full? FAT or NTFS? How do you know what to do?
We'll start with file systems, short and sweet. Most any OS can read and write FAT volumes without fail which makes FAT ultra-portable, and the only choice if you want to let Mac OS write documents on your Windows volume. It's also more efficient on drives of 16 GB or less. However, FAT has no folder-level access control, so any file in the system can be manipulated by any user or by any system process. By contrast, NTFS is far more restrictive. It can only be manipulated under Windows, though other systems may be able to read it. Not only do you get the access control that FAT lacks, but you also get superior efficiency on large volumes, plus the power to compress or encrypt folders and files at will (in "business" flavors of Windows only--and yes, Vista Ultimate counts as "business" even though it will be supported much like a "consumer" version).
On format speeds: A quick format is very handy if you have a large partition or a single drive completely dedicated to Windows. Because it completes in 30 seconds or less, it will go a long way toward completing your Windows install. However, in some cases, volumes formatted with a quick format may have reliability issues. They must have fixed this in Vista, because Vista can only format at the "quick" speed.
A full format tests all blocks of a given volume (as opposed to testing an entire disk unless the volume itself is the entire disk) as the file system structure is laid down. Bad blocks are marked as "used" when they are found. This type of format takes much longer as a result of all the testing, but the result is a more stable volume from the start.
Get past the formatting stage, and you'll be right as rain.

  • Windows 8.1 black screen with mouse cursor after login (HP 2730P)

I live in Canada and first just to confirm that Windows 8 with all Microsoft patches was running ok on my HP EliteBook 2730P NoteBook PC. Originally I had Windows XP running in it. With Win 8, I just lost few unique HP
    applications.
But last night, just after my upgrade to Windows 8.1, I had the blank screen problem after the login, as you already described. I went to HP and Intel web sites for some help and fixes but nothing really helpful. According
to what I red, it's always someone else responsability but not their's or the easy way to get out of it, not supported on Windows 8 and above. But as my (not so old)   HP 2730P is a NoteBook PC that I am used to work with, I
did a lot of researches to make it work fine with Win 8 and now with 8.1 .
So, after many hours on Internet I finally corrected my problem the same way as ghoust1101 showed previously; with the Info and instructions on youtube.com/watch?v=Rgje-t0OLdI
After the sfc /scannow , I got a message saying that many errors and corrupted files were fixed, plus as showed, I deleted "c:\Windows Activation Technologies", which corrected my problem. Done a reboot and everything was fine after
showing me the correct Windows 8.1 screen and the rest is to get familiar with it.
     Hope this could help...

    Hi,
Actually, I'm not sure what your exactlly problem it is, what's you meaning of Black Screen? All the screen black or just background? While Glad to see your problem resolved, Hope your experience is helpful with others.

  • Windows 8.1 Black Screen with Cursor

After Windows restarted and before the desktop shows up, the screen shows only movable cursor. if I attempt to click Ctrl+Alt+Del, there will be no response. The issue was with a driver installation, I believed it was a registry issue, then I used
DllTool to fix. I started Windows in Safe Mode but the result was the same. The drive where Windows installed is locked and I can not use System Restore or start-up repair. When it attempt to repair it says "The Drive where Windows is Installed is Locked"
and When it attempt to Restore System it says "You must enable system protection on this drive".
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
This might be caused by the DllTool. Some system files might be changed so the OS considered the system drive is not available.
Please use your Windows 8.1 disk to enter start-up repair, check if it could work in this way.

  • I was going to install Rosetta Stone Spanish onto my Macbook but am concerned about it taking up space on my 2GB hard-drive.  I have an external WD hard-drive; is it possible to put the application onto the external hard-drive to save space on my mac?

I was going to install Rosetta Stone Spanish onto my Macbook 10.6.7 but am concerned about it taking up space on my 2GB hard-drive.  I have an external WD hard-drive, and I was wondering if it is possible to put the application onto the external hard-drive to save space on my Mac?

I think you're confused about how much hard drive space you have.  You probably have 2 GB of RAM...  there hasn't been a Mac shipped with only a 2 GB hard drive in a while.  At the bottom of any Finder window, how much space is available?
If you're actually running low on space, you should move documents to the external drive, since many applications want to be on the system drive.

  • Is it possible to put a custom image in the main working area of Access to replace the norml gray?

    Hi,
I'm working with Aceess 2007 and Later.
I would like to put a personal image as a background of the main windows of Access instead of the built-in gray.
    Is it possible? And how?
    Thanks, Lauro
PS: My serches reached only a
Lebans solution which is no more working

I did this once using a BUNCH of Windows API calls,
    this article:
    http://www.vbaccelerator.com/home/VB/Code/Libraries/Subclassing/SSubTimer/article.asp
    and this utility:
    http://www.vbaccelerator.com/home/VB/Code/Libraries/Subclassing/SSubTimer/VB6_SSubTmr_Binary.asp
Not for the faint of heart. You might be better off with a tabbed interface where the background is always covered with forms.

  • Is it possible to put MAC OS on my PC?

Well, basically I done with windows. Vista just killed it for me, so now I want to try another OS. I have used MAC before and it liked it. But, I have a PC. Is it possible to put Mac onto it erasing windows completly? Or is it not possible yet? I read a few things, one says an emulator that run MAC through windows. I then read that they were going to make it available for PCs but do to legal stuff they stopped it or something. And if I have to buy a new computer, Ill have to stay with Windows. It kinda needs to be on this computer.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You know, for only $600 (USD) you can get a new Mac Mini that has Mac OS X preinstalled, and if you want, install XP or Windows on it. Why not do that, and scrap or sell your PC. For that matter, you can find Macs which will run Mac OS X 10.4 for as little as $300 if you shop around these used and refurbished Mac shops on my FAQ:
    http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
The only qualification is that it has built-in Firewire ports and a DVD drive. Or for $10 extra, you can get the CD media exchange program for Mac OS X 10.4. To learn about the extensive Mac OS X library, and what Macs support a variety of Windows, see my FAQ:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html
There is no reason to stick with a Windows machine anymore. There never really was. Welcome to the party!
Chances are it won't ever be possible to install Mac OS X as fully functional on a homebuilt PC. Apple is a hardware company, and without that hardware, they wouldn't make money and the ability to make the most integrated operating system with hardware ever built. What you are buying into is a different philosophy of how software should be tied to hardware.

    Gateway   Windows XP

its a felony because you are "breaking copywriter laws" for putting your own DVDs to YOUR ipod... i know the ppl in Washington are idiots but itunes wont complain cus now you gotta go buy it(again) from them... well all i can say is if i were you i would go to lazlow.com a listen to his clip where he talks about it and explain why its illegal...
so dont do it! but it isn't illegal to know how to (yet, he talks about that in a diff clip) so look for the clip ok
