Is it possible to continue service during travels to Asia, without paying exorbitant fees?  If so, what do I need to do in order to get set up?

  • Why does it cost more to use Verizon with a contract than without?

I have been being charged outlandish overage charges.   47 cents per minute is totally rediculous.  I have also been being charged oveage for internet usage.  I was not notified.  For some reason, my email address was not updated even though I have called them a number of times in the past year.  I used to get messages on my phone that told me when I was coming close to my quota.  Now they only do it as a text message.  Guess what, not all of us text! I had blocked my phone from text messages when I got it.  Anyhow, my last two months bills have been outlandish because of overages.  I can get  a non contracted service for $45.00 a month that includes unlimited  cell phone calls, messages and Internet.  I do have to buy a phone, but even with purchasing the phone and prepaing for an entire year, it is less than the total of the last two phone bills from Verizon.  Does it make any sense to even have a contract?
I have talked to two different verizon reps on the phone about this.  One told me it would cost $70 per unit to break the contract.  A month later, a rep said it would be $85 per unit to cancel the contract.  This does not make sense as you would think the closer you were to the renewal date, the less it would cost to cancel.  I am not cancelling at this time, as I will be better off to just let the contract expire, call them and tell them not to renew the contract and go from there.   I think it is terrible to charge more for a contract than for a non-contract.  Doesn't customer loyalty mean anything to this company?

I can understand your frustration when you are suddenly aware of this huge bill after Verizon (it sounds like) from your perspective changes it's practices and is no longer notifying you the way they had been and didn't make you aware of it that you know of. We have all had the experience of feeling totally frustrated with a situation even when we recognise the part we play in the responsibility. I don't think taunting and making wise cracks with no constructive suggestions is called for. I seriously doubt any of us is perfect or hasn't had a similar feeling of frustration. That said I have no doubt you wish you had kept closer track in one of the ways so unconstructively suggested here. You might think about checking into upping your plan during the months you will be going over (it sounds like this is a more recent problem so something has changed) so your overages aren't so high. You can change your plan minutes and data anytime during the billing cycle and can even have it include the overages you have already incurred as long as the billing cycle is still open. That way you might pay an extra $10 or $20 (guess) for a bigger plan rather than more in overages. Verizon usually has this pretty well figured out so that having a contract is more cost effective than not unless you rarely use your phone and it doesn't sound like that's the case. As far as the cost of breaking the contract it has always been my understanding that you are correct and the cost goes down each billing cycle. I have also gotten completely different information from different reps at Verizon at times and I know how frustrating that can be as well. Good luck!

  • Cisco WSA : Is it possible to use web proxy in transparent mode without WCCP router ?

    Hello !
I would like to use Cisco WSA as a web proxy in a transparent way (without any configuration in client's web browsers) but i don't have a WCCP router. So, is it possible ?
If yes, how to do this ?
    Thank you,
    Stephane Walker

    Hi Stephane
The only alternative to WCCP is PBR (Policy Based Routing). With a simple configuration on the router you can redirect traffic defined as interesting by access list to WSA. On the WSA you need to configure transparent mode (Security Services -> Web Proxy -> Edit Settings -> Proxy Mode: Transparent). You also need to assure that proxy is listening on the port 80 and that HTTPS proxy is enabled (on port 443) if you want to redirect the HTTPS traffic as well.
    Sample configuration for Cisco router
access-list 110 permit tcp any any eq www
    route-map proxy-redirect permit 10
    match ip address 110
    set ip next-hop xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    interface ethernet0/1
    ip policy route-map proxy-redirect
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the proxy IP in such case and access-list 110 defines web traffic (HTTP TCP/80) as interesting.
The biggest disadvantage of such solution is lack of failure detection. If the proxy will go down for some reason router will keep redirecting the traffic causing internet access outage.
Routers other than Cisco equipment should also have an option to configure policy based routing.
    /Artur
Ps. It's not possible to place the WSA in-line between clients and the internet.

  • Is it possible to use "english hijrah" on-the-fly without ALTER SESSION?

    SQL> alter session set nls_calendar='english hijrah';
    Session altered.
    SQL> select '29-02-1435', TO_DATE('29-02-1435', 'DD-MM-RRRR') from dual;
    '29-02-1435' TO_DATE('29-02-1435','DD-MM-RRRR')
    29-02-1435 29 Safar 1435
Hi, the above shows that an input date of '29-02-1435' can be validated as a correct Hijrah date.
However, is it possible to do such a TO_DATE(), or TO_CHAR() conversion without the overhead of an 'ALTER SESSION' at the start ?
From within a Gregorian session I tried a few things like below, but they didn't work and give ORA-01756: quoted string not properly terminated
    select TO_CHAR('29-02-1435', 'nls_calendar="English Hijrah"', 'nls_date_format="DD-MM-RRRR")
    from dual;
All we're needing to do is validate the date as valid Hijrah - no further processing is done.
Many thanks for any help. Mark

Sorry - I had been confusing single and double quotes.
The following shows that it's a valid Arabic date
    SQL> select '29-02-1435', TO_DATE('29-02-1435', 'DD-MM-RRRR', 'nls_calendar=''English Hijrah''')
    2 from dual;
    '29-02-1435' TO_DATE('29-02-
    29-02-1435 02-JAN-14
and for example if you put a crazy month, it complains
    SQL> select '29-02-1435', TO_DATE('29-92-1435', 'DD-MM-RRRR', 'nls_calendar=''English Hijrah''')
    2 from dual;
    select '29-02-1435', TO_DATE('29-92-1435', 'DD-MM-RRRR', 'nls_calendar=''English Hijrah''')
    ERROR at line 1:

  • Is it Possible to use Aep. Files in Pr without After effect on your PC?

Hi i have a "minor" problem
basicly i have made some text animation in After effect and set the comp to Template in the advance tab
now it cant open on my clients computere becuase he does not have After effects on his PC
Is there a way to use it in Premiere regardless of not having After effect on your PC?

It all depends, in my opinion if you're making an applet to be used by Grandma signing
is the best way to go since Grandma doesn't know how to change policy and if she
knew (or asked her grandson) would not take the trouble to change it.
If you are makning an applet for a company for example to be used for theire on-line
courses signing is not the way to go. Since most companies have a system
administrator that doesn't like just any applet asking the users the "do you trust" question.
Because anyone can sign an applet. The default jre installation is for Grandma but in our
company (and many others) a policy is set up that ignores signatures and will only allow
extra privileges if this is specified in a policy.
Now in the java.security you can add a policy, when you point that policy to a location on the Intranet
users will use this polciy without beeing able to change it (themselves or by malicious software).
In the .policy file you can provide a keystore so you can (if so needed) provide "signed by" policys.

I have a laptop, it has adobe on it, i have a 2nd laptop, I want adobe on it, do i have to buy and register adobe all over again or can i download adobe onto my new laptop as I already have it on the other laptop?

You can re-download your software at any time and install it on your new laptop. You'll need your serial number to activate it.
Which Adobe products exactly? Which version?
Which operating system is your existing laptop running?
Which operating system is your new laptop running?

  • Using Skype to call canada while traveling in asia

I am not sure if there is an appropriate skype service for me to use while I travel in Asia (Seoul, Hong Kong, Japan). I will be calling and receiving calls from Canada. Also, do all services require that I am conncected to wifi when making/receiving calls? That the person I am calling is connected to wifi when receiving my calls?
    Thanks!!

    Hello,
    1. With Skype (or any VoIP carrier) your location is irrelevant. To make calls to Canada from anywhere in the world (including from within Canada) you need either the Unlimited USA/Canada Plan or some Skype Credit.
    2. Not necessarily. You require a high speed internet connection.
    3. as 2. above.
TIME ZONE - US EASTERN. LOCATION - PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA.
I recommend that you always run the latest Skype version: Windows & Mac

  • Is it possible to use an iphone 5s with contract(verizon) to use it in india after unlocking

is it possible to use an iphone 5s with contract(verizon) to use it in india after unlocking

The 5s claims it has more LTE bands than ever. Which is does if you read the tech specs on it. If I was going to go there, I would do some research. If you plan on sliding in a sim card from a german carrier, what German carrier and what LTE bands do they use? Thats what I would do.
There is a significant amount of LTE bands added on the Iphone 5s compared to the 5 yes. Will it work? It might depending on what carrier you plan to use like I said. I can't answer that sorry.

the Wifi storage options are interesting but it seems they only allow to read files from the device on the iPad but not transfer files to the storage device via WiFi.
I'm looking for a possibility to use the iPad for photography while traveling, without the access to a computer.
Shooting photo's in RAW format crates pretty big files that will fill up the iPad's memory pretty fast if you shoot a lot during a (let's say) month long trip.
my idea was to use load the photo's to the iPad so i could view them and sort out any bad ones. then copy them over to the storage device so i can continue using my CF cards for shooting. I have an image thank for copying the photo's directly to the HDD but it would be so sweet to be able to check them on the iPad before hand.
    any suggestions?

Check out pogo plug device, it allows you to upload camera roll via wifi.

  • Possible to use IR Modem with MacBook Pro?

I am a new MacBook Pro owner who travels frequently to a variety of locations.
I am interested to see if I can use a PSION Travel Modem (an IR Modem) as a backup for those instances where WiFi just isn't available.
(Believe me, I will travel to such locations.)
I have used this nifty modem ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004RKHF ) with my Palm in the past. I have done quite a bit of searching through Google & this forum, but have not found a specific Psion modem script or a generic IR Modem script to try.
Can anybody point me in a direction to get this working?
    Thanks,
    Brad

Apple has not included Infrared output on their Macs since 2001. You'd have to find a Mac compatible USB or ExpressCard 34 adapter for Infrared. I don't know if it is possible to reverse engineer the Infrared of the Front Row remote, but that's the only logical means I can think of making it work if it were possible.
I'd get a 56k modem, if you want an alternative to WiFi:

  • Possible to use non-AT&T wireless card with iPad??

Thinking of getting an iPad, however I travel frequently and after looking at the outlandish prices for international data plans, I am about ready to give up on the idea. Anyone know if it is possible to use a non-AT&T wireless card with the iPad? I'm guessing there would be a compatibility issue of some sort.

The 3G iPad is not locked to a particular service provider. You can get a local Sim card and data plan in many countries. This article will give you some idea of what's available: http://gigaom.com/2010/05/10/ipad-data-plan-guide/

  • Using Verizon SMTP Server with GMail

GMail now offers sending from an external SMTP server.  I have Verizon FIOS and would like to send email using outgoing.verizon.net (so that the email appears from another non-gmail account without the "on behalf of..." header information).  However, when trying to configure the GMail settings, I get the following message:
Authentication failed. Please check your username/password.
[Server response: Remote server does not support TLS code(500) ]
I am using the correct username/password.  Is it possible to use outgoing.verizon.net with GMail?

Where are you trying to configure this? Is it a web-based page or in a client? If it's a client, which one?
For the sake of example, we are going to pretend that we are setting up  fictional account "[email protected]" and the password for logging into that  account in webmail is "fakepassword" - Again, this is a fictitious account for the sake of an example.
The settings for using Verizon's outgoing server would be:
    Server: outgoing.verizon.net
    Server Requires Authentication: Yes
    Username: fakeacct
    Password: fakepassword
Port: 25 (although 587 also works.)
These settings should work unless you have a Verizon/Yahoo account, in which case the server name is: outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
    Hope this helps!

  • Using Verizon Jetpack 4G on Ipad

I am using a Verizon 4G Jetpack but I can not access the internet on my Ipad. My jetpeck is connected and shows full signal. Its works fine on my phones. I am trying to use it while traveling in the car. Any suggestions?

    Hi JuniorJoker,
Congrats on your new Mifi 5510L! I can certainly understand your concerns with using more data on the new device. The Mifi 5510L is a 4G LTE device which means it is up to 10x as fast as your previous 3G Mifi 2200. Due to the speeds being faster you will experience quicker uploads and downloads, and less buffering resulting in more data usage. What are your activities on the Mifi? Input the information into our 4G lte data calculator to see which activity may be using the most data http://vz.to/1cRXvFh . How many devices are typically connected to the MiFi?

I receive a 4s after been use for 2 years in the verizon network and the customer upgrade to a 5. I will like to use the phone overseas but I do not use Verizon, how I can get this phone legally unlocked without having to add service because I'm with Sprint under a contract?
I can get the prior  owner of the phone info if you nedd to contac her to verify, just let me know thank you.
If the phone was used in the Verizon network for 2 years, is that not enough time to get the phone unlocked?

I have sprint phone and service without simcard, Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. But if I can get the Verizon iPhone 4S unlocked, I can use it let's said in the caribean, canada, europe etc.,  with a local simcard from the service provider and country that I visit . No to be use here in USA with Sprint or Verizon, only to be use with GSM-Simcard when I travel out of USA.
