It keeps on ejecting my Office 2011

I ordered my Office 2011 for Mac, and it arrived yesterday.
When i was all excited and jam it in my drive, it ejects it, every time.
weird sounds come out from the drive, i tried DVD lens cleaner, didn't work.
Other disks read fine, i don't know is it my MBP's problem, or the disk. If it is the disk.....sigh.....whats with Microsoft anyways....
Got any ideas?

The disks don't work on MacBook Pro's for some reason. I posted this in the Microsoft Office Mac forum, and I got a number of people who replied that the disk works on their iMac's but not their MacBook Pro's. What a friggin joke. I finally got it to work by using an external cd rom drive I have laying around.

I keep inserting the disc but the mac won't read it and just ejects it after 30 seconds. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well I figured it was the disc but now after I've tried burning a few cds my drive is doing the same thing with blank discs now. It still reads cds but not blank discs and the Microsoft office 2011 for mac.

You must be using an update CD.  You need the software that has the full version first - install that, then you can use the update one if needed. I know, cuz I made the same mistake - lol

MacKeeper, being poorly written, acts like highly invasive malware* that can de-stablize your operating system. It is also unethically marketed and a rip-off, offering nothing that is not available for free.. Positive reviews of it are known to have been paid for by the developers, Zeobit.
Further opinion on it and how to uninstall MacKeeper malware:

Do NOT download or use the ‘MacKeeper uninstaller’ from the Zeobit site, as this will cause even more damage to your operating system.

Thank you - that all makes sense. It is, indeed, exactly what I did when I upgraded.
I'm also writing this on the machine that crashed a few minutes ago (I posted the crash in another thread). I got back with a 'safe boot' - as I have done a few times before.
I've also de-installed little snitch (and then done a safe-boot & then re-boot ) since that seemed involved. I de-installed Adobe flash, since that seemed to be a problem - I then re-installed the later, apparently fixed, flash. The most recent crashes don't seeme to have a problem with flash any more.
I've posted the various ( generally different ) crashes. I also posted a summary of the similar lines that turn up in most of the crashes.
Unfortuantely, I'm actually trying to use the machine to meet some urgent deadlines and all this is not making it at all easy.
I had had great hopes for 10.7.2 - I thought that the crashes must be pretty common, so would have a common aetiology. There do seem to have been some fundamental changes to the file sytem and to the video interface (that seems to cause problems to brand new iMacs as well as to my 2009 iMac).

  • Trying to delete MS Office 2011 and keep getting a mbuinstrument error saying it is still running?

I have a trial version of MS Office 2011 on my MAC (OS version 10.6). I am trying to remove this from my system. I have followed all the instructions from Microsoft to the tee. Now when I go to empty my trash I get the following message "The operation can’t be completed because the item “mbuinstrument” is in use." What do I do? As of right now I stop the removal because I am not sure what this file is. Can someone please tell me what to do here, please?
    Thanks
    Rosie the Riveter

I first encountered this problem too, but after checking through several files of mine I found this file called Microsoft User Identity or something like that within my documents folder. After deleting this I was able to clear my trash.
Pretty much just search your entire computer for any Microsoft office or word related files and delete them.

  • After installing MS Office 2011, Safari fonts are displaying incorrectly

I'm running OS X v. 10.6.4 on an Intel iMac.
This morning, I installed Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, and when I went to my safari browser and googled something, my fonts look like the image below:
Even as I'm typing this now, this font is showing the same way! I did a thorough uninstall of MS Office, emptied my font cache, browser cache, reset safari, logged out + in, restarted my comp 100 times, and I'm at a loss.
Is it possible my arial font was corrupted somehow? I know Office installs its own evil fonts, which I'm pretty sure I have now deleted. How would I get a new, working version of the default Arial font and reinstall it?

Office 2011 installs a bunch of fonts that conflict with those installed by OS X. Read section 3 of Font Management in OS X to see which to remove, and which to keep.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Office 2011 14.3.9 for Mac update not recognizing mountain lion

I've tried several times to update to Office 2011 14.3.9, both via auto update and by downloading the update.
    Keep getting the following message-
Office 2011 14.3.9 update can't be installed on this disk. This software requires Mac OS X version 10.5.8 or later.
I am on a 2012 cMBP running Mountain Lion 10.8.5.
I've kept office regularly updated in the past, presently it is 14.3.8
I've tried everything in this thread including the termina suggestion, and none of it seems to work, plus my activity monitor doesn't even show the database and syncservices mentioned in the thread, with all activities selected-

    Solution to problem found:
Got to looking around, and found this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5425709?start=0&tstart=0
    The gist is this:
The OS X 10.8.5 update, at least for a lot of folks, made the mach_kernel visible and relocated it to the Documents folder.  It needs to be in the root folder, must be there same folder as system and applications, and it is usually invisible there.
I remembered finding it in the Documents folder and tossing it in the trash.  Fortunately I hadn't emptied the trash yet.  I simply moved it to the root folder, rebooted as added insurance repaired permissions, rebooted again, and now all is well, perfect safe boot and everything.  I never did a safe boot before so had no idea it loped the way it does.  Pretty cool…
As an added bonus, what got me to trying a safe boot was that the latest Office update wouldn't recognize mountain lion, it thought i was running something prior to 10.5.x, so it wouldn't install.  It has now installed perfectly.
Additionally, per the above link/forum thread, I hid the mach_kernel again, with this command in the terminal-  sudo chflags hidden /mach_kernel  which also worked perfectly.
    All is well, yea!

  • I have Mac 10.6.8 wih Office for Mac 2004. I tried to install Office 2011 but the computer rejects the disc. Please help.

    Mac OSX 10.6.8 2.66 GHz Intel Core Duo; Memory-2GB 1067 MHz DDR3
I  have been using Office 2004 for a long time, and about three years ago purchased the then new Office 2011 . I installed it but did not like it and removed it from my computer, Now I would like to install it--the computer rejects the disc. Is there anything I am doing wrong? How canI make it work.  Using spotlight, I did not find any traces of the old installation.  Thank you!

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.
Visit www.mactopia.com where you can download the trial version of Office 2011. Install it then register it using your registration number that you have for the DVD.
It would be a good idea to uninstall Office 2004, but it shouldn't be necessary. You can dump the old Office 2004 folder in your Applications folder.

  • I have Microsoft Office 2011 Student Edition installed on MacBook Pro; Can I install Microsoft Office Windows 2008 onto Mac without deleting Microsoft Office 2011?

I have previously installed Microsoft Office Student Edition 2011 on my MacBook Pro.  While installing Microsoft Office 2008 Windows; message prompts to delete Microsoft Office 2011.  Is there a way around this issue?

Office 2008 was a Mac version. The equvalent Win version is 2007. So there is no "Office 2008 Windows." Which version are your trying to install?
Are you using Boot Camp to run Win on your MBP and want to install Office for Win there? I can't see that being a problem..
I do know that the regular version of Office Mac won't run properly if the trial version is present. The installer is set up to look for other versions, resumably to keep the trial version and the regualr from clashing.
Office Mac 2011 is equiv to Office for Win 2010
    Office Mac 2008   "    "     " Office for Win 2007
    Office Mac 2004   "    "     " Office for Win 2003

  • MS Office 2011 constantly asks me to re-enter key on 10.9

Hi, just today I received my first ever iMac -- 27" late 2013 model.  It came with 10.8.4, and I updated to 10.9 and got the updates that followed that.  I then installed MS Office 2011 and downloaded the updates for that.  It keeps prompting me to enter my key and activate.  I've done it at least 8 times so far.  It's always successful, but it doesn't survive all reboots.  Some cold boots, it will survive; some it won't.  Same with warm boots.  It's driving me nuts.
The activation works every time, but it's just a nightmare because somehow it's just won't stick.  Has anyone encountered this or know of a fix?

This is likely a Microsoft issue, have you tried asking on the Office for Mac Product Forums?

  • MS Office 2011 won't install under Mountain Lion

Today I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion. However, my MS Office 2011 refused to run, didn't even start so I couldn't check for updates manually. I had it set to check for updates automatically by the way.
So I uninstalled MS Office and then reinstalled from the installation disk. But my iMac won't install it; it starts up the installation most of the times (although it sometimes spits out the disk without even trying) but after several tries it keeps telling me that the installation failed because there is no software to install.
    So frustrating!
How can I install it anyway? I really need it since all my documents are MS Office.

    G@dgetgirl wrote:
Thanks Eric, but I'd already found that procedure and this is exactly what I did. Didn't work, alas. Or rather, it worked alright since I've got no traces of MS OFfice on my Mac anymore. But it still won't install from the installation disk. Below is the error message, in Dutch. It says the installation failed due to an error in the installation program and that I should contact Microsoft.
    Pfff.
Everything worked fine under Lion. Should I give up on Mountain Lion and revert back to Lion?
    What did Microsoft say?

  • If I upgrade to OS Yosemite, can I still use office 2011 on my Mac

If I upgrade to OS X Yosemite 10.10, can I still use office 2011 on my MacBook Pro 2011

Yes, I am still using mine. As long as you don't do a fresh install, which is deleting the hard drive then installing Yosemite. However, I recommend a new fresh install every update. It keeps the computer in tip top shape.

  • I can't install MS Office 2011 on mountain lion

Hi, I just installed Mountain Lion, I made a clean install of it so I needed to reinstall all of my programs including Microsoft Office 2011 for mac. The problem is that I bought only a key for the program. The process for installing was originally downloading the trial version of it and after putting the key in it that converts the trial version into a full program. The problem is that when I'm trying to open the installer (yes, I tried to re-download it several times) I'm havin a window saying "Can't open the disc image" and the reason is that the "research is impossible" (when it's on my external hard drive). I searched on several other topics saying that the problem was due to a previous install... but I made a clean install... Otherwise I tried changing the security settings to every programs (not only from apple and app store) and I also tried the Ctrl+Open but it's not working at all and I keep having the same window.
    Thanks for your further help
