It looks like updating Firefox causes problems with Macs. Should I update from 4.0.1 if it works? I have a Macbook Pro and have upgraded to Lion.
I've tried to update FF since I had Snow Leopard and it just kept spinning and couldn't connect. Now I see that maybe there was a good reason.

Firefox causing problems with web pages and Yahoo
Firefox has been causing problems with:
Yahoo: no matter how many times I reset the font size, it is always much bigger. Also the "From" box (where my name and email address appear) has shrunk;
This does not happen in Chrome

Instead of seeing what is going on on the live cam, all I get is a green screen.

I have followed all the instructions:
- Reset Firefox
- Disabled and re-enabled add-ons
And yet this has solved nothing. Iam now having to run both Firefox and Chrome at the same time. This is highly frustrating. I like Firefox better than Chrome but problems are mounting up and I do need help.
Has any one got some idea what is going on?

Thank you for your input. I did try Font size, reset, zoom... the lot and nopes it did nothing. As I said the problem is in Firefox, not in Chrome.
I also checked the plug-ins issue and it seems they are in order and up to date.
Now this morning, the website has been working again in Firefox (was working ok in Chrome).
Overall Firefox's performance with some websites is poor. My health report confirms the number of times it crushes (many times a day, which is highly frustrating). I am keen to keep Firefox as it is so mcuh nicer in many ways than Chrome but it's performance is an issue for me... sigh... -
Looks like there is a problem with your recording ...
When I turned on my laptop today, I noticed that I was unable to use the webcam in skype. When looking within the video settings, there is a message that states "Skype could not find a webcam...". When trying to use Skype Metro App, it detects the webcam, however when trying to do a video call, the webcam does not turn on, and when trying to send a video message, there is the message "Looks like there is a probelm with your recording".
This problem impacts all applications except for the Camera Metro App (Which works without problem).
I've confirmed that the webcam is in the device manager under imaging devices and I've tried to use both the default microsoft drivers, as well as the manufaturers drivers with no avail. There is no error under device manger for the webcam. I also tried a system restore to a date before the issue took place which also did not work.

I have an iMac, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. Until recently Firefox worked fine on them all and was my default web browser. Suddenly and with no other indications, FF wouldn't load on my MacBook Air. The opening sequence commences but hangs up with a "loading" indication. I have tried uninstalling FF with CleanMyMac and reinstalling. All is fine until I attempt to open FF when again I get a hang up with the "loading" indication. FF is still working fine on my iMac and MacBook Pro. Weird or what!
I have that problem too! Have anyone figure it out?

CarolineFinal Cut Express was discontinued about 18 months ago, before the release of Lion (10.7). It is no longer a supported product and was never supported on Lion, nor on Mountain Lion.
While some FCE users have had success running FCE on Lion, many have reported problems including problems with chroma keying. I do not recall any solution to the chroma keying problem, but you might try searching this Forum to see what others have discovered or tried.
Final Cut Pro X is the app supported on Lion & Mountain Lion, and the future direction Apple has taken. Since your computer lab has already moved to Lion (10.7.5) and presumably will move to Mountain Lion in the future, you should begin the process of moving to Final Cut Pro X. I appreciate there are implications for cost, training, inconvenience and re-doing lesson plans. But technology moves on and at some point we need to move with it too. -
I upgraded to Lion last month AFTER wiping the hard drive for the second time on my 2011 macbook pro. I am now suspecting that transferring my photos (I have over 8,000 saved on sd cards) to my computer is bringing all this trouble.
I was able to rectify some problems by dragging import file from library to desktop etc... But I am worried that these Copied Libraries and recovered photo files and AlbumData.xml file are a sign of something darker loomng ahead...Sorry but we have no idea what's going on, or gone on, on your machine. Neither can we see it. We only have your somewhat sketchy post. You mention that you can rectify "some problems", you mention "all this trouble" but neglect to mention what these problems and trouble actually are. So, I'm afraid it's hard to respond to your post in a meaningful way.
A couple of thoughts: 8,000 photos is not a problem. iPhoto is good for 250,000 in any one library. So, unless you have very limited HD disk space, this is not the source of whatever issues you are having.
If you're dragging parts of the iPhoto Library around the place, yes there could be trouble ahead. Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
There are two ways to get a copied library: one is to duplicate the Library yourself (either accidentally or deliberately) or while restoring from back up.

I ordered the disk to update to Snow Leopard. Did that so I could get the App Store. Did that so I could download Lion. After I installed Lion my MacBook is super sluggish. Takes like 6 seconds just to open a drop-down menu in Finder.
I have been backing up. Will LaCie D2 QUADRA with firewire restore my apps back onto my MacBook Pro if wipe my drive using the USB Lion OS stick (which I think I'll have to buy even though I downloaded the new OS online)? I have been plugging my laptop into the Lacie drive set on "auto" and it's been working great.
One Genius said yes "you will get everything back" but my Mac buddy says "say goodbye to most of your apps". Then a guy at the university I asked "do you have a disk image". And I said "what the **** is a disk image?".
Is the problem that I installed an OS on top of new OS without wiping the drive? Or, is my MacBook Pro too old? Do I need to buy a new one?

Any help?SA will indeed transfer accounts, files and apps at first start. Can do so even faster if you clone the internal HDD onto the external (just split into a partition large enough to contain it) and then use it as the source. Probably faster than Time Machine too. The safest and quickest way to do a disk image or clone is using CarbonCopyCloner (free), and it will preserve the Lion Recovery Partition too.
Since you'll have to re--download the Lion installer again, note that you can concoct your very own Lion Installer USB Stick with it prior to reinstalling and not have to pay for the Apple-branded version. See Kappy's tutorial: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3786371?tstart=0
As for the sluggishness, I believe that a great part of the cause is that you only have 2GB RAM. Don't know if your Mac can take more but try at least to get to 4GB, if not 8GB. Should attempt this before messing with the reinstall, as this may get you what you want. -
I have synced my phone to my MacBook Pro. I have signed in and out of my account on all devices. The iMessage properties do not even list my phone number any longer. I can send and receive based on my e-mail, but it doesn't even give me the option to add my phone number. Anyone else having this problem after updating to OS X 10.8.3?

I am confused as to what I should do about the Adobe Flash Player. Did Apple block it for a reason? Has that reason now dissappeared? Do I even need Flash player anymore? I have heard numerous, conflicting comments. This is just my home computer.... not a business or anything fancy. Thanks.
Gaping security holes have been affecting Java. Recently Adobe plugged a hole found in Flash.
Adobe has since released an upgrade you can install if you need Flash. Oracle released a new version of Java for those who need to use Java in their browser.

My apple TV no longer will stream the music videos, especially when in shuffle mode. Music is fine. Music Videos from the computer library work just fine.

I moved a 40GB file off my MacBook Pro to make room so that I could enable the iCloud Photo Library. I optimised the storage but during this process it used 10GB of space and so I cant now put back the file I took off my mac. I though that once I had optimised the storage I would gain space not loose it!. So i'm wondering how can I delete photos off my MacBook and not off all my devices and so I can get this 40 GB file back on ??
CheersHi, that's how it works. photos in Photo Stream are these ones that actually exist on your Camera Roll. Photo Stream is an iClous service that helps you to share photos. Just think about Dropbox or any other cloud services, isn't it that you delete a file on your computer, then found the file no longer exist on your other devices?
If you want to keep the photos while making them occupy less space, I suggest you try SafeEraser's Photo Compressor feature. It compress the photos and make it easy for you to keep them on your iPhone without losing much quality. -
i just updated my latest java but the update is causing problems with some external devices. So i would like to uninstall this latest java update and get back the previous one. That should solve to problems with my external device.

I just updated to the new final cut pro x 10.1.1 and i am also on mavericks so but on my editing timeline i was trying to color grade using magic bullet looks but i am having problem with it. When i send a sample to MBL and color grade it , it comes back to final cut pro x all black even after render. By the way on the MBL i am using the GPU rendering, I used before like 4months ago and it was fine. And i don't like to use the CPU because it very slow.
What is the frame rate of the project? At what frame rate was the media recorded? What frame size?
What are the audio settings?
What are the specs of the machine, in particular how much RAM, how is the hard drive connected, etc.?
If possible, post screenshots of the inspector for the project.
It could be related to the audio frequency? -
If I install the update to Adobe Reader 10, will that cause problems with Acrobat Pro 9?
Firefox (version 15.0.1) is telling me I need to install an update to Adobe Acrobat 9.4 in order to view pdf files in my browser. I use Acrobat Pro 9. The update is actually Adobe Reader 10, and I am wondering if I install this, will it cause problems with my version of Acrobat Pro?
Because I am not sure if this is so, I have temporarily disabled the plug-in and now pdf files download automatically rather than display in my browser. I would prefer they open in my browser but do not want to upgrade to Acrobat X.
My OS is Windows Vista. I did not include the "troubleshooting information" file because I'm not sure what specific info is being requested.
