It pains me to say it but ...

Question

I don't think Keynote is ready for the adult world yet.
I am the CEO of an organisation that is dominated by Microsoft Office users, but I am the key Apple advocate and have been espousing the use of Keynote for our corporate presentations. However, I've been defeated, and what follows is part of an email I have just sent to my senior staff.
"Looking on the web, there's a ton of stuff about problems using Keynote and QT, and I'm experiencing them all. Changing the export settings seems to just shift the problem to another part of the presentation.
On top of that, even without using QT I can't get Keynote to consistently play with a recorded soundtrack (created within Keynote itself and with nothing fancy). The presentation is just fifteen slides.
So it works fabulously as a silent, presenter controlled presentation on an Apple Mac. Oh dear.
This is simply an unacceptable waste of my time, so I concede.
I'll take what I've done and rebuild it in Powerpoint."

Unfortunately, I, too, must agree with the OP. I love Macs, and I, too, generally use KN. BUT: KN does have all kinds of problems, especially if you use music and video, which PP doesn't. PP may lack some of the "magic" I love in KN, but it's a very functional app, even on Macs. As far as stability is concerned, after decades of meetings, I can't recall when I've ever seen a PP presentation fail at a conference.
And, like it or not, "multi-user" in the real world means a predominantly Windows community. Go to most big conferences, and you'll find the hardware is almost always Windows-only, and you usually can't hook your own Mac up to their system for one reason or other (often presentations are centrally organized, even centrally run, and they almost never have Macs). Work-arounds from KN to Windows, whether via QT or PP, are, at best, an extra hassle, and often don't work right. (Even PP on a Mac doesn't always play as planned on Windows machines, but that's usually a font problem.)
As a Mac (and, yes, even KN) lover and user, I, too, am upset that Apple has neglected so many basics which are non-problematic in PP, when there's no question they could do it. KN can jump through hoops and sparkle and juggle brilliantly, but can't order lunch. I'll continue with KN, and probably the next iteration will enchant me even more, but I no longer expect that the basics will be really fixed any time soon. Apple simply seems not to care.
