It's finally working!! (X-Fi ExtremeGam

Good evening everyone. I simply wanted to tell you all that I finally got my card to work thanks to the amazing support from Creative Support Sweden. I ultimately wrote a letter to Tech support explaining my problem (you can read about it here: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=Vista&message.id=2447#M2447) and just a couple of days later I got a great reply that finally solved my problems.
Technically it's merely a clean way to entirely uninstall and re-install the creative drivers and software so that the OS can start clean and thus install the driver properly.
I'll try to translate the mail shortly so that you can get the same help I got:
"In order for your reinstallation to work you should have your OS running without any background third-party services or applications running, to do so do the following:
*Disconnect your LAN cable for the sake of security.
*Press Start and then Run... Type in msconfig and press Enter.
*Check the box "Hide all Microsoft services" under the "Services" tab. Click "Disable All".
*Click "Disable All" under the "Startup" tab aswell.
Restart your PC when done.
Later go to the Control Panel and Programs and Features and uninstall your soundcard if not already done (usually named Creative Sound X-Fi). Go to Device Manager (Control Panel>System>Device Manager) and expand your Sound, video and game controllers tree. Rightclick and select Uninstall on the Creative soundcard and preferably also on any other sound cards you may have installed (like onboard sound). If you had onboard sound installed remember to disable it in BIOS after uninstallation otherwise Vista will try to reinstall it after reboot.
Reboot the PC and cancel any installation that Vista tries to start at startup. Insert your Soundblaster CD but close the wizard that autostarts. Go to the CD dri've and explore to D:\Audio\Drivers (if your CD dri've letter is "D"). Click Setup. Uninstall the WDM driver and overwrite all shared Creative files (a checkbox in the setup-program). Don't reboot after it's done.
Empty your temp-archi'ves. There's one in your main Windows partition (like C:\temp) and usually one in C:\windows\temp. Go to the Program Files folder and delete the Creative folder.
Empty the trash bin and reboot your PC. Download the latest Vista drivers for your card and install them. When the installation is done make sure you re-enable the services and autostart options in msconfig and reboot."
This worked perfectly for me. I hope it does for you!

I'm surprised that no one has replied to this and verified that this solution helped for you aswell but I guess no news is good news.
I just wanted to add a discovery I made that cleared up the situation further. Apparently the culprit to my problem wasn't the driver from the Creative CD or website but one I downloaded with Windows Update. I know this because I happened to install it again after I had everything working and thus returned to the same old problem. After I managed to remove that update all was back to working state.
The update was called "Creative dri've update for Creative Soundfront Synthesiser", updated 2007-06-2. So I simply hid the update from Windows Update and will never update any drivers from Windows again .

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

Is native AVCHD editing finally working in FCP6?

I read somewhere that FCP 6.06 will finally work natively with AVDHD. I've been itching to get a Panasonic AVCHD HMC150 but don't want the hassle of transcoding to giant ProRes files, but rather work with native files.
Anybody had success with this combo?

What is the problem with using ProRes (apart from size of files)? It is an awesome codec. On my humble Mac Pro I can play back 3 streams with a couple of filters applied to clips and transitions in rt.
I have tried native avchd editing in Vegas - got about 3 streams to work, but frame rate only stays full frame at preview (half). Edius playback of avchd is nil for me - although converting to canopus HQ gives similar results to FCP. FCP's log and transfer is also a very elegant way of transferring and transcoding clips on the fly. Also, read the adobe forums for posts on avchd - very variable responses with many reporting lots of crashes!
For me, the bigger issue with FCS2 is the lack of a HD distribution format, ie bluray!

Yahoo Business Mail finally working again after 11 months

Thanks to Safari 4.0.4 Yahoo Business Mail is finally working after breaking over 11 months ago because of an Apple update. I'm glad I don't have to switch to a different browser just to check my email anymore but having to wait a year for a bugfix that Apple themselves caused and refused to fix was really annoying.

Hotmail finally works on iPhone

I dont know if anyone has noticed but Hotmail finally works on the Mail application with no workarounds, i searched for someone posting this but could only find posts about workarounds, so i figured i would share the good news!
all you have to do is go to Other when setting up email and put in your name, email address, password, and then the description box will b automatically filled in with your email address. Every other setting will also be automatically done, but just for reference host name is pop3.live.com and the Outgoing smtp is smtp.live.com
im glad i procrastinated long enough to not have to use a workaround or set up a new email account and im extremely glad that i can finally use my Mail application and not safari!!!

Maybe the Windows Live web page changed to Flash content, that would be evil
But seriously, why not use the Mail app for your Hotmail?

Apple TV sync finally working

For what it's worth, I have finally figured out how to keep my ATV from crashing and rebooting during the sync process and also keep it in from disappearing from the device list in iTunes.
Setup: I have a fully Apple homogenous setup: iMac with Snow Leopard (10.6.1) running iTune 9.0.1 w/ethernet to Airport Extreme 802.11n (firmware 7.4.2) wireless stream to two 40GB ATVs (family room, living room). I use the ATV to stream everything with no media on either ATV.
I have previously tried everything recommended on these forums: reboots, reinstalls, trashed prefs, completely resetup wireless network, factory resets of ATVs, firmware upgrades/downgrades on Airport Extreme
My fix was simple;
1. Choose radio button to custom sync each ATV on the respective ATV device in iTunes. (For the record, I don't know if this has ANY bearing on the fix but it is the way mine is setup.)
2. Choose "Prevent Apple TV from syncing automatically" in the Apple TV pref pane within iTunes preferences.
After I checked this weeks ago, I have not lost either Apple TV from the device list and I can access all of my content from the ATV menus and no longer get the "There is no content available" message that i used to routinely get when I'd lose connections previously.
The ONLY pain that this setup has cost me is I need to manually kick off the sync process occasionally from within iTunes to ensure my library file on the ATVs accurately reflect my iTunes library file. Not bad compared to the constant frustration of never being able to use my ATV because it couldn't establish a connection or show the content from within iTunes.
This may help and it may seem obvious but it is the ONLY thing that has worked for me.

My set up is an Airport Extreme, iMac (Snow Leopard 10.6.1, iTunes 9.02), and Apple TV with the 3.0 update. No luck with Syncing it just hangs until the ATV crashes.
I'm using the work around mentioned at the top but it is really irritating given I'm using all Apple technology. By the way the Firewall is off on my iMac however I do have a large iTunes library 300Gigs. I just wonder if it's too big for the ATV to sync successfully.

Nokia Suite/Nokia Store finally working

I had not tried downloading/installing an app from the Nokia store from within Nokia Suite in quite a while, as it never seemed to work. On a lark, I decided to see whether anything had changed since installing the latest version of Nokia Suite. To my surprise, the selection of apps offered was correct for my phone; the selected apps were downloaded and installed in one step, and the 4 apps that I tried out all worked. I'm glad that Nokia has finally apparently gotten the kinks out of the procedure, as this is now on par with its equivalent through Apple/iOS or through Google/Android.

I think development of Nokia Suite has already stopped.

Waves 5.9.7- Finally Working in FCP!

The folks at Waves must have finally got their act together. The age old problem of Waves Audio Units not working in FCP seems to be over. After installing the update, I crossed my fingers and launched FCP 6.0.1 and voila, no crash!
It's not that I ever used these plugs in FCP, but I'd always have to remove them from my components folder after using them in Logic. They would never let FCP start up otherwise. So, I'm just happy I don't have to go through that step all the time anymore!

Does FCP still take 30-45 minutes to load the Waves bundle? In my experience, it would launch eventually on some version combinations...
Even if you can use them in FCP, you would still see the numerical effects tab interface, instead of the nice skins you see in Logic. But at least you don't have to remember to drag them out of the plugins folder each time you want to launch FCP...
I'm interested about this because I teach FCP at a school where Logic, Pro Tools, and the Waves bundles are on the same student workstations - We'd have to move those Waves files around at the start and end of every class.

Parallels 1918 Finally Works for Me!

Parallels just released another update to their software, and it FINALLY doesn't make my system crash! The software is awesome. If you had issues before, I recommend grabbing this version and seeing if it works for you!

I started seeing success with 1868, but it wasn't until 1910 that I had any real success. Even that build crashed once in a while.
1918 was -rock- solid for me. I ran it extensively with XP and Vista, sometimes at the same time.
1920 came out today by the way (it is RC2, and available on their main website and not just in their forums) and it fixed my last real problem: the sound volume being reset.
1910, 1918, and 1920 have seen a drastic reduction of problem reports for people on the Parallels forums.
1920 is release ready, if you ask me. Parallels works 100% now on my Mac Pro without any KPs or RAM fiddling. I am very, very happy. Parallels is once again viable on the Mac Pro.

GeForce 8800 Core Image issues finally worked out?

Getting ready to order a new Mac Pro, and deciding between the Radeon 2600 and GeForce 8800 I have been reading that for games the 8800 is smoking fast - but for normal work in Aperture/etc it's actuall slower than the Radeon. Also saw some people reporting issues playing back HD video on the 8800...
Have these issues finally been worked out? Is the 8800 working well for HD video, moving windows around without stuttering, core image, etc...??

I'm quite sure the 8800 will do well as a gaming card under windows. But if you use the computer mainly for CS3, Aperture etc, then I think you should go for the cheaper 2600 and then upgrade.
Barefeats has recently tested the ATi 4870x2 and the GTS280 under Vista and the former is significantly stronger. http://www.barefeats.com/harper19.html.
Note that in that article it is said that ATi "has optimized their Mac Edition drivers and firmware for the Radeon 2600 XT and 3870 so that they run Core Image effects much faster than comparable nVidia cards including the GeForce 8800 GT and Quadro FX 5600." This was news to me but perhaps it answers your question in part at least.
I have not seen any solutions for the HD video playback issue. I'm using the 8800 but don't do HD so I have no personal experience of that.
Btw note Barefeats finding that a 2,8 Mac Pro is as strong as a 3,2 Mac Pro for graphics work.

SlideShow transition IE finally working except

Well I finally got it to work with 2 small problems.
Hopefully someone has come across this and knows if there is a solution.
Problems:
1) not everything is staying centered on the index page when changing the window width in IE browser and emulating ie7. It works in Safari and FireFox and my other pages in IE browser NOT emulating IE7.
2) the shadow boxes are not working on the index page... again in IE browser and emulating ie7.

The SlideShow transition fix:
I added the following meta tag to my index page:

The (Slideshow basic) did not work and I had to use the (SlideShow with filmstrip) as stated by (W Bell)... link provided by Gramps below.
I could not install the slideshow with filmstrip directly into my page from the widget browser in dreamweaver... From the widget browser I saved the (SlideShow with filmstrip) files to my hard drive and copied spry folders and html code into my page.

That's correct I could not get the basic to work and had to use filmstrip... and strip out every thing that I did not need... the slideshow with filmstrip did not work when I used the (insert widget) in dreamweaver. as mentioned above. I am new and self taught myself, hope this helps.

GetContentType = Nullpointer, "rebuild" message finally works... *confuse*

So let me try to explain.
We receive mails from a groupwise server. Sometimes (not every mail, but some, could not find out which) i am getting a nullpointer if i ask for the contentType.
If i now read the message, write it back .. the rest will work fine. If i don�t do so, i also get a nullpointer calling getRawInputStream.

I assume you're using IMAP.
This is usually caused by a bug in the server. Please post a protocol trace
showing the problem, or send it to me at [email protected]
And make sure you have installed all the latest patches for GroupWise.

As a beginner , it wouldnt have been possible without the help i got from everyone over here.

though the R/3 -> XI -> R/3 is working, where i am invoking BAPI_USER_GET_DETAIL in one r/3 using SE37 transaction, which fetches data from another R/3 passing thru XI , I am not able to see any XML message in sxmb_Moni in XI. <b>How and where do i see my XML Message in XI.</b>

Beryl - finally works great here on Radeon 9800 with DRI

pacman just updated beryl to:

and finally it works great!
To run it you need to set some options in xorg.conf (look in wiki), then just run:

Everything works very, very smooth on my Radeon 9800 with DRI drivers (no fglrx!).
I found only two problems:
- I can't make movies and OpenGL applications transparent
- I can't play movies in gl/gl2 (mplayer), they are flickering

for the first time ever, Beryl+AIGLX works perfect with open source DRI on my radeon 9800..
