It's here somewhere, But i need FTP help

I've been uploading FTP files from my computer to my iphone using filezilla for a couple of years, but since switching boadband provider to BT it seems no longer possible. I've played with port forwarding and firewall setting but with no joy , I get same cannot connect to sever messages. Thre are numerous posts about this sort of thing, but I can't put my finger on the problem.

Hi Juff

  • My mistake but I need your help (Y70}

Dear all, I have made a super newbie mistake - powering off my laptop during windows upgrade process. But it was stuck at 99% for over 2 hours. So I just got the Y70 Touch, I upgraded to Win10 without problems. However, I want to have a clean install, so I opt to RESET to windows 10 original settings with a clean installation. So the Resetting was going slow, and it was stuck at 99% for over 2 hours and I shut it off. Now, it can't find the boot device. It says "check online for INACESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" I have created the Lenovo Bootable Generator,  but it's no help since it still go through USB within the startup cycle. What can I do? Please help! thanksJack

    hi Jack,
It looks like you created a bootable legacy Windows 10 flashdrive.
For you to be able to install Windows 10 on top of your previous Windows 10 installation (repair install) or format the Drive C:\ and do a clean install of Windows 10 (without formatting/deleting the other partitions) then you will need to specifically create a bootable UEFI Windows 10 flashdrive (see Option 2 -Step 6 of this guide)
    Note:
You will need to change Boot Mode back to UEFI in the BIOS to read the bootable UEFI Win10 flashdrive.
Alternatively, you can also stick with your current bootable legacy Windows 10 flashdrive but you will need to wipe all partitions to reinstall Windows 10 (this coverts the drive to an MBR disk).
Let me know if the above steps works for you.
    Regards

  • Would Like to Get an IPod but I Need Some Help

    Hey-
I tried an iPod (2 that is) when the first ones came out, and I broke them from installing the software when it was already installed. (at least that is what I was told). But it said to begin by installing the provided software.) I still see how far they have come so I am here wanting any advice on what is available and what some iPod- experts would recommend for someone who has a hard time with technology stuff like this. (Plus the good am/FM radios to use while exercising are getting to be nearly nonexistent.)
I have done some serious reading up on them and have looked up some of the iPod Manuals that people write to help the less "commonsense" people like myself.
I am really interested in the iPod classic since it seems to have the least of what I really do not want like videos (which it might have) more basic controls are a plus, and the ability to set it up so I can upload the music in iTunes.
I hope somebody or several people have some recommendations, things to help me that I would not think of, if the earplugs are not the best for exercising, do you know of a brand that is?
Any pointers learned from experience and places to go to help me understand what it is when I actually do get one, etc.
I really appreciate any help in this broad area, even if you think my post is lame So, in advance--THANKS!

HI! Just read your post and the reply by roaminggnome and I would say he gives you all the information you need to know except for what color you like.
I likely know less than you even do regarding the iPod but, that said, I have owned four of them. However, all bought within the last 18 months. So, I do not know of what it used to be like before then. All I can say is that I am a PC guy so Apple stuff didn't really catch my attention until I started listening the Rush Limbaugh to get the news about politics that the press seems to think is too much for us or something. I didn't really have three hours a day during the time he is on so I then heard about "podcasts." I found that I could listen to him anytime I wanted to if I just downloaded the podcasts he had of his show each day. So, I backed into the iPod or MP3 player rather than looked for one because they were a new item. I am now 59 years old and have been using computers since 1965 and I got out of the "Its new so I have to own the best and the latest" thing in my 40's. Now, having grown up, I buy what I really want because it will actually improve my life somehow, rather than just to show off.
The point being that I had become somewhat "hardware illiterate" but when my son came home from doing 5 years in the Army - doing war stuff, and we got to know each other again, I realized that my son had become me when I was his age. He had +it all+ five times over. (The pay is much better than when I was in!) He had iPods, iPhones, etc. all over the place but, like I said, until I needed something to listen to Rush, I didn't even ask about it.
So, when I finally got one, I really knew nothing! I had to read the directions (I am a CPA so I know how to do that.) to find out what to do. I think I remember that things had to be done in a certain order so read the directions. Sorry if what I am remembering is the directions to something else. But I found that reading the directions sure saves me a lot of work anyway - especially in the computer software area. I found the directions easy and had no problems whatsoever. In that way, roaminggnome is quite correct. It is so automatic that even a cave man could do it. Seriously. Learning iTunes seems harder to me than the iPod thing, however. Reading some of the iPod stuff on the net (a book is not included except for setting it up but running it requires going online.) is quite worth it when trying to use it the way you like.
The iTunes Store is where I get the free podcasts and found that lots of shows have them - especially political venues. However, you can buy almost anything you want to listen to from their store. It was a fabulously ingenious thing to create because it all works so well together (great marketing idea) (Store, Podcasts, and iPod) and they make money almost every step of the way. Its like an addiction after a while anyway. I need another song, I need another song, I'd do anything to get a podcast of the guy I just heard on the radio! And like that.
It all works quite easily and is about as hard as turning on your computer and plugging your iPod into the special cord they provide with it - which is always plugged into a USB Port on my computer. Plugging it in starts up iTunes and, depending on how you set it up in iTunes, it begins to upload to your device automatically (My son bought me the classic for Christmas last year and I always use that one now,) So, all you have to do each day, once it is set up, is to plug it in and walk away. It will load up your choices and charge the battery after that. Of course, you already know all that don't you?
I use my iPod when I work out. I do that twice a day for about a total of three hours at least five times a week. I am in remission from a terminal disease so I want to be in the best shape possible for when I end up with cancer to try and make it through the treatments. Being 59 and seeing how the government is going to trash our health care just so he can cover millions of illegals and after reading the entire House bills with addendums, I know that my chances of getting a liver now is absolutely nil. There is no use keeping an old guy alive who can add nothing to the greater good, right? At least that is what Robert Reich (A Clinton appointee) who advises Obama said. "If you are in your 80's, we aren't going to waste medicine on you just so you can last a few more months. We're going to let you die." I appreciate honesty even when it doesn't go my way. At least I know what I am up against now. But the reality is, in a socialist environment, I will be a liability - a toxic asset and will be thrown out like yesterday's news. The country I once put my life on the line for - voluntarily - thinks of me as a problem now. The greatness of the individual and the American dream had died now and after being able to experience actual freedom in the 50's and 60's, having it taken away from me has left me so I do not really care about dieing anymore. I would rather die free than live in chains. If China wants to, they will literally own us if they do now cut Obama's nightmare borrowing and spending off quick. (Did you know that Obama is counting a raise as a new saved or created job?) Who the **** let him get away with such a phony number without learning to quantify how he gets to these numbers anyway? Talk about pulling numbers out of thin air!) The press would have NO idea how he gets these numbers, they just print it. We now have an affirmative action president who is too big to fail. And kids are now forced to learn Obama praise songs in schools. They can't read or write but they can chant Obama rap in over 20 different schools (See breitbarttv.com for proof. They did the exposes on the Acorn criminal business - of which have been incorporated under 300 different business names but are all Acorn and SEIU and share the same offices many times. This is a nightmare akin to the way Hitler took control of the citizens. He started by owning their bodies because of "health care." Once they own your health - they own you!) It lead to him declaring Jews unfit to live and that is the excuse he used for euthenasia of the old, sick, and Jew alike. He wanted to create the perfect German. That is what can happen if you sell out your personal freedoms for a thing you may hardly need for most of your life - health care. You can pay for your own before you are 50 for the most part and get catastrophic insurance for those kinds of sicknesses, like mine, that most people never even get until their 80's, if at all, and be far ahead financially. Getting old is not a sickness. It is a wearing out. Are old people worthless because they finally wore out living life and paying taxes in American now? Sick! But instead of free insurance, like these young kids foolishly think they are going to get will cost anyone who has a job, it costs actual money and they will be forced to buy this crappy insurance since all private insurances will go broke trying to compete with an entire government that does not have to make a profit because they can tax us for all the money they need (Once unconstitutional and some of this still is.)
Anyway, now that I learned from roaminggnome about the disk drive being located in my iPod rather than just a flash drive, I will start to use my old 2 gig one for working out. Mine is the 120 gig size and I hardly use any of it except for a few TV shows I missed (Yes it has a screen) and music and podcasts to listen to while I work out. I use about 3 or 3.5 gigs of the 120 possible.
One thing that roaminggnoe said about the earlier ones is that my 2 gig says it can allow me to use the drive as another one on my computer or something like that. So that puzzles me.
I have to mention about the ear buds though. The ones that come with it do not have a better sound than ones you can buy. However the ones that come with it are best for working out if you use the bud type rather than the earphone type I see some using at the club, The ones that come with it allow air to get into your ear which keeps the buds dry from sweat. The ear buds that you can buy that have better sound allow your ear canal to fill up with sweat so listening to music or whatever is like listening to it under water! No kidding! I had to take them out while one the orbital machine and try and dry my ears out while jumping up and down on that machine without falling off. The Apple buds stay dry and you can still hear others around you that might be trying to get your attention there.
Anyway, sorry I wasted so much of your time. I just wanted to assure you that even one so uninformed as I could use the new iPods, right out of the box I think it is great and I am glad I now know how to use it. I just wish I could learn how to download the podcasts in the order done on the air of shows longer than one hour. Each podcast is one hour and they always download in the wrong order - completely backwards from how they played the show. I also wish I could have it automatically play them in order instead of having to stop and select each one each hour. The music shuffles, why not the podcasts? I do find that a bit strange. Oh well, you've likely already made the purchase so you can just delete this rather than to waste your time reading it.
Have a great day! (Don't you just hate hearing that? Especially in stores where you know they don't mean a word of it.) I have been kidding you about making this so long. I did most of it for a lark (talk about too much time on one's hands huh?)but I did mean to let you know about my using the iPod with no problems. roaminggnome said everything I did in a few sentences. Good writing.

}I have everything I need, but I don't want it to display the even numbers squared. I want it to display the odd numbers squared. And also at the end I need to Output all of the uppercase letters. Any ideas of what that means or how to go about it??
By the way. The program outputs the following when I use firstNum=1 and secondNum=13:
    odd number = 1
    odd number = 3
    odd number = 5
    odd number = 7
    odd number = 9
    odd number = 11
    odd number = 13
    Even numbers total = 42
    2 squared is 4
    4 squared is 16
    6 squared is 36
    8 squared is 64
    10 squared is 100
    Odd numbers(squared) total = 165

  • Sorry but I need more help to set up AE as bridge

Hi, I had some advise on how to set up airport Extreme as a bridge (? - I need to extend my network without confusing two or more IP addresses or something like that). I have tried a few thing but really do not know how to connect to the device for the setup. I think the LAN connection from the ISP Modem should go into the "circle" port and the MAC should plug into one of the three <-.-> ports.
In running through AE utility, I end up with it telling me that I do not have an IP address and I should contact my ISP.
If there is someone out there that has the knowledge and patience to give me a step by step guide to connect and configure this setup so that I end up with a reliable network extension that does not clash with the ISP modem Router. I would be very grateful. Thanks!

I will check. I it possible that that was not the model number. I have hooked up the laptop so I can communicate again. and hmmm, sorry it is a 2701 model.
Here's what I have done in the mean time and the information you requested Bob:
Switched everything off again, disconnected the apple TV and 2Wire modem, connected modem, connected AE, waited 3 minutes, switched on Mac Pro then connected to <-.-> port on AE, waited 2 minutes, started up Airport Utility and tried to connect (after upgrading to latest firmware).
    Resulting in Error message:
"An error occurred while updating the configuration.
Make sure your Apple wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6737)"
I can report the connections settings prior to changing them:
Connect using: Ethernet (I left this as was)
Configure IPv4: Using DHCP (I set to manually)
Ethernet WANPort: Automatic I l left this as was)
Connection sharing: Share a public IP address (I set to "OFF (Bridge Mode)")
resulting in the error mentioned above..
Does this tel you anything? Should I disconnect my MacBook which is using wifi to 2Wire?
I am going to try to set the AE with the MacBook while I wait for your advice.
    Thanks again! Floor

  • Beaten to death I know - but I need some help with Gtalk

    Hello all,
So I am 100% certain that the topic of Gtalk and the ability to communicate to buddies on other IM servers has been just flat out abused by now. With that said - I've been driving myself completely crazy trying to set this darn thing up correctly, not to mention the tremendous amounts of time that I've blown.
So...... before I continue to waste away more time & patience - I want to put in my own words what I am trying to accomplish, check with you peeps and see where I need to go from here to fill in the blanks.
Here we go: I have been using iChat that is set up with my Google talk "Jabber" account and it works great as long as your entire world of people you'd like to chat with are also using Gtalk. My problem has been that many of my friends & family have hotmail or yahoo, I am completely unable to chat with them, as when I try to put in the needed info I get the infamous "waiting for authorization" (if only a snickers bar came with that).
I would like to be able to use my GTalk account and chat with friends using Yahoo or Hotmail - using iChat as my way of doing so.
I've already attempted (likely unsuccessfully) the whole Psi thing, heck I've created who knows how many different accounts and can only hope that I've accomplished fully deleting most of them. Quite honestly I'm just not able to put the Psi thing together correctly, or at least in such a way that will allow me to continue using Gtalk + the ability to chat with those using Yahoo or Hotmail.
If anyone could offer some explicit info on
    a) can this be done (easily would be great), or am I truly just wasting time...
    b) maybe point me to a website(s) that is(are) designed along the lines of "iChat & IM for dummies guide"
    Hope that makes some sense.......
    Thanx in advance!
    -A-

    iChat for Dummies link
    http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page5.html#_jabber
See the three links in the Jabber section
Now it was certainly the case that you could set up Transports on other server and your Jabber ID that was logged in would see that an use it even if you were not logged into that particular server. (So using GoogleTalk would see MSN Buddies effectively)
I am not quite so sure that this is the case now. I rarely use the Jabber side myself as I have always had some Buddies showing as Not Authorised and Awaiting Authorisation even If I have chatted to them.
I have found that some of the Jabber servers I originally used have stopped MSN and other transports which does not help.
I have found I have had to check by using Psi that a transport is still active.
In the table of poeple willing to test http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/ContactTesters.html I regard Gil Taylor as the most knowledgable about things Jabber.
He has not been able to post here as frequently as he did due to other commitments but try AIM texting him first.
This may not be the answer you wanted but may help moving on.

  • Updated to Mavericks. Now theres tons of activity in my terminal and my activity monitor doesn't seem normal. I want to think someone's hacking me, but i need experienced help please!

I spent all night trying to fix this. It seems to me that someone has been trying to hack into my system with all of the random codes/lines in my terminal and i have all of his foreign IP addresses. And now i get this strange message that popped up in my terminal. Idk what it entirely means? I would very appreciate if someone could just walk me through this. Thank you very much.
First time poster. I have Macbook Pro. OSX. Just downloaded the new mavericks. I'm i have my firewall on. I stay secure. I run Netbarrier, Virusbarrier, IdentityScrubber.
I know something is a little odd or just doesn't make since about my activity monitor. Then my WiFi was hacked last night and this person was writing tons lines of commands/codes that i found in my terminal and my activity monitor doesn't look normal,  and I've only been a mac owner for about a year now and i'm learning more and more but while trying to figure out what was going on this message popped up which concerned me the most. Any help would be most appreciated, thanks guys. I have my terminal full of his foreign ip addresses i noticed, and a lot of other commands and lines he wrote out that i definitely did not type myself. Can anyone give me a hand on this? Thanks

I just feel un easy about this. ha.

  • I Know I am in the Wrong Room, but I Need Some Help with an Mpeg 2 File

         Hi, all--
Forgive me as best you can--I am in a fairly desperate situation. Allow me to explain, and please feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you know a lot about this stuff I'm going to describe.
We have a project, 29 minutes long. It is a slideshow of paintings with original music by me.
I live in central Mexico (love it!). However, I was forced to use a video editor who has been a dunce so far. No matter what I ask him for, whether it is a version in a specific format or an edit, I get something different. Every time he has fixed a problem, he has created a new one.
Now his house was broken into and all of his computers were stolen--I suspect he only has low quality backup files of the project.
We are in a huge rush, because this is supposed to debut at an arts festival in October, and we need to duplicate a few hundred DVDs first...and now the problem:
ALL WE HAVE FROM HIM IS AN MPEG2 of the project. The sound won't play on my Mac, but it plays on my friend's PC, so I have to assume that a pro duplication house won't have a problem with the sound if I send him the file on a thumb drive.
THE PROBLEM WITH THE MPEG2 is that it is jittery when key images slide across the screen. This will look terrible on a 6 x 10' screen at the premiere, plus we do not want to sell DVDs with this unprofessional look.  I asked the editor for an M2V file (requested by the guy who was going to create a menu) and he instead gave me an Mpeg2 that is jittery.
QUESTION: is there such a program that can take an mpeg 2 and eliminate jitter? I do NOT think I can get another file from the editor.
CAN ANY OF YOU DO THE WORK IF I SEND YOU THE FILE? I WILL PAY.
    Thanks.
    Doug

First of all, Hunt--thanks for responding!
"First, where are you playing the MPEG-2, that you see that jitter?"
On both a MacBook Pro, an Acer laptop and my Mac Tower. I would love to think that it is a problem with the playback system, and that if I merely send the file off to the duplicator they won't have the same problem. Maybe that is the case...I don't know if I have a choice rather than sending it off to see. But it happens in the same spots, in the same way, on all three of the players so I'm a little reluctant to have faith.
"Another thing that can cause jitter in an MPEG-2 is the Bit-Rate - higher the Bit-Rate, the better the quality, but the larger the file. For a DVD, one is limited by the total Bit-Rate (both Audio & Video), but with longer prodcutions, some users choose too low a Bit-Rate. If this is the issue, one would need to go back to the original Project and do a new Export/Share."
Of course, but in the case there is no more 'original project.' It is gone like the wind, stolen along with his computer and backups.
I think I am stuck using one of two files as my master: a DVD he burned where I only see the stutter/vibration/jitter once, or the mpeg2 file where I see it three times. Hopefully, the duplication house can rip if off of one of them and not see the jitter. I know that in audio, my personal filed, you can do a lot to enhance already existing sound--EQ, compression, tape saturation emulation software, etc. I guess I'm hoping there is some kind of analog to the video world that address jitter after a source has been printed--if indeed the source has been printed to be jittery.
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • HT1212 My iPod has been disabled for a few months now, and I haven't had a way to reset it. I just recently got a computer, downloaded iTunes, and here I am in need of help that nothing is providing me with.

I've been told to set my fourth generation iPod touch to recovery mode by turning it off, and holding the home button down, but my home button is cracked along with the bottom of my screen, so I have no way to do so.
If anyone knows of a different way to reset a disabled iPod, please help.
I logged into the iTunes account and it says it can not load because my iPod has a password.
Yes, Apple, my iPod had a password; which was forgotten, and is the reason why I'm here in the first place.
I hadn't downloaded iOS 8 yet, so the support system is rather useless. Help?

A 4th gen iPod can not be upgraded to iOS 8. 7.0.2 is the high version it can run.

  • Complete novice needs ftp help

    HI All,
I'm a first time user of iWEB but reasonably confident with using macs for other things - particularly use imovie/photo/tunes.
I tried searching the forum (I use it a lot and usually find answers) but couldnt find anything that goes right back to basics...
Anyway, I have made a site using iWEB for my business and have a domain name and hosting space . I have downloaded Captain ftp but cant seem to get it to upload my site. I have host name, user name and password. I just opened Captain ftp and clicked on remote, quick connect. My domain name appears in one of the windows in red and the stripey blue and white bar at the bottom just kept moving and it said 'getting folders' but it never did (30 min later). the other window says my mac and shows hard drive icon under name
Can anyone offer an idiots stepwise guide for me? I'm feeling a bit frustrated at the whole thing. I tried to get through to the host tech support but they didnt have anyone who could help me with mac/iweb problems.
    Thanks in anticipation
    Leanne

    Hi thanks for your input.
    the host is Smarty Host

I am able to access my domain control panel using the username and password they gave me so I presume they are correct.
The specific instructions they sent me with the invoice and account details are as follows. I used the FTP instructions except there was no where in Captain ftp to add UPLOAD DIR info
[2] PUBLISH YOUR WEBSITE TO OUR SERVER:
    Upload Using Microsoft Frontpage:

Please use FTP in ACTIVE mode.

Please ensure that your home page is called "index.html" (without the quotation

I'm guessing there is just some little thing I'm not doing correctly...

to highlight text on a page it does not select anything, does anyone know how to fix this issue, if I use enterprise mode all of the above issues do not happen but god its a headache to try to figure that enterprise mode out, I am only 17 and this is just a

The IE user forum is at answers.microsoft.com. If you get directed here, the direction is wrong.

  • Need ftp help

OK, I have to admit up front....I am totally clueless about FTP. I've published my own websites for almost 10 years now without really using or even understanding FTP. (I did used to hand code, but I can't begin to remember how I uploaded. I've been using WYSIWYG programs for years now.)
So I'm working on creating a site in iWeb and uploading to my daughters' domain using (a trial version of) Transmit. I just selected a template and made one welcome page (with minimal changes) just to figure out what I'm doing.
I'm actually not sure I'm doing the "publish to a folder" thing correctly. (Just created a new folder down in Documents called PT.) So I don't really know what to select in Transmit to get the right things online. It actually seems like it worked (I can see my files listed in "their stuff.") But I can't see the page by going to the URL. I only see the old page I created and uploaded in DreamWeaver a long time ago.
I am feeling like a true idiot (though I usually consider myself intelligent). Can anyone point me to the instructions for truly clueless people? Thanks!

OK, I thought I uploaded both. Mainly b/c I wasn't sure which one to pick first, so I went with the index file. That didn't work, so I picked the folder. Oh wait ... I just checked, and they are both listed in "their stuff."
In Documents, I have a folder I created called PT. Inside that, I have my index file and my PT folder (b/c I named the site PT.) First, I am now remembering you said (on your site) not to use the same name everywhere, so did I mess that up?
The URL is www.princesstown.net. The DW page is purple and has animated stars. The iWeb page is the pink kids theme, and I only changed the top page title to "Welcome to PrincessTown.net".
Thank you so much for your help!!

  • I wish to teach Java, but may need some help

    Hi,
I teach Junior High, and since no formal programming class exists, I have made a programming club. We have spent the last while doing some mindless tech work, but now I want to get them bitting their teeth on Java. I taught it a few years ago, so the code doesn't worry me a bit. Its more the initial setup and I'm open to ideas.
Primarily, each computer connects to the host with a private directory (h: drive) and a public (s: drive)
While I'm reluctant to load java on 30 machines (as the club handles 4-8 at a time) is there a way to install Java on the public drive and allow students to access it from time to time?
Is there a smaller version of java that might be better? We will not be using any various libraries, focusing more on input and output and really simple programs...
I also noticed that notepad is attaching .txt to our java files. I'm just going to have to get used to the students renaming their files before compiling...
any advice on the setup and teaching will be great!
    thx

    hi
i am s tudent myself and i will tell u what they r doin in out college lab
we have around 200 systems in the lab and they have installed java on only the server. The folder in the server is mapped on to each system as it boots. Indeed this makes the process of logging in slow...but it eliminates implementation of java on each machine. most students do have a copy of the compiler in our logins for better usage.
as for using notepad, i would suggest other java ide rather than notepad....jcreator is the best i have seen so far...editplus is also good(its so small not even 1mb)
the above products are license free for trial usage and cost a little for registration...
actually jcreatorLE is completely free...try using it...
all the best in ur endeavour...
    cheers
