Sorry to be thick here but I'm trying to download single files executables of Novell Clients for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 but when I go to dowload the file it does not save as an .exe
What's going on?

Let me guess, you're using Internet Explorer perhaps?
If so, it's already been reported to Novell and logged as a bug (#838345).
In the meantime the fix is to rename the downloaded file to include
".exe" on the end and/or switch to another web browser (FWIW Firefox
downloads the files correctly).

That's a question only the provider of the application can answer.
You could also take a look into the system event log if there is an indication for the reason of the application failing to start properly. It is possible that certain services are required for the application, but they do not run on the machine.
Another point is possibly missing rights. So you might want to test the application once with the option "Run as Admin" (right click menu item on the application shortcut or the exe itself).

  • Current VI's Path returns location of original source file, not running exe.

    Running LV 2010.
I have a VI that opens a PDF style manual when the user clicks a button.  My development project is set up with a main project folder, and 3 sub folders called Source, Application and Installer.  Of course, the source code is in the Source folder.  I also have a copy of the manual in the Application folder with the app.
When run, the VI uses the Current VI's Path object as a starting point for where the manual is located.  The Current VI's path includes the Source folder in the path it generates.  This is not a problem when running the source code, as the VI is running from that folder.  Problem is, the Source folder is also included in the generated path at run time on the target machine running the exe.  There is no Source folder on the target machine, so I'm at a loss to explain why this is happening.  It's probably a setting in my application builder, but I can't find it.  Never had this problem before.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

  • Oracle connection works in VB debug mode but not in EXE

I have a small VB 6 app that writes to an oracle database on a unix server. Oracle 10g is installed on my pc. System DSN is set up in ODBC and corresponds to an entry in the tnsnames.ora file (to the best of my limited oracle knowledge..)
The connection to the database works fine in debug bug. Test Connection of that DSN works as well. But when I build and execute the EXE file it returns : "TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified"
What is different about the process of running an EXE that could cause this failure?

I am having the exact same problem. What could be the difference in the way the debugger in VB handles DAO calls to an Oracle database in debug mode?!?!?

  • How to make jar files run using java.exe and not javaw.exe

    Hi ,
I am developing a project in which there is an GUI which inturn will call a console . I have made it into an jar file now.
Here comes the problem. When i run the jar files , i don't get a console. While going through this forum, i came to know that jar runs using javaw.exe and this stops it from bring the console up.
Please suggest me a way of running the jar file through java.exe or any other method by which i can get an new console poping up.
PS : i cannot start the application itself in a system console , because the Console mode is an added feature and it is not to be displayed every time but only when the user intends to.

Thanks for the reply pbrockway2. But i think, i was not able to convey my problem properly.
I am supposed to start my application in a GUI mode ( No console are should be present at this point of time). Within the GUI , i have a option for working in the console ( i.e if console is choosen, then i start giving my output and take inputs from the console. I am trying to do this by just calling the "System.out "and "System.in" methods. )
Here is the problem. As i have started it through " jar " it would not have a associated console with it.
PS: i cannot have launching .bat file because that would result in my application having a console displayed at the very start of the application. I want the console to be displayed only when the user wants to start in console mode.
Please suggest me some ways of doing this. Can i create a console from my java program and then exit it.

  • Force jar to run through java.exe not javaw.exe

Hi,I am programming using eclipse 3.5.1 when i try to export my project as a single jar file it always runs through javaw.exe
even if its a console app the problem is that sometimes i want it to run through java.exe without having to write the annoying batch file (java -jar "appname.jar") which will only probably run under windows, is there a way around this that would force the jar file to run automatically in console mode?

You have one extension which you want to run two different ways. That of course isn't possible.
You could write a wrapper that spawns a console via Runtime.exec. Then your console apps would be wrapped in that.

  • Mountain 10.8.2 do not like '.exe' file at all !! IT gets Hanged and then Force to restart

After Update with 10.8.2. The System get hang (stuck)
I had to do  a forced restart, several time and even a ReBoot in safety more.
AND I FIGURED OUT WHY :
I realized that in one of my folder (Download) I had an ".exe" File; Than have been downloaded (because i got Parallel Desktop that neable window7 to run under the Mac), and causes the problem (system is hanged)
Then when I reboot in safety mode I deleted that file.  And Then everything went OK.
But when I plugged my USB key, I got again my system that turn to stop... Then again Force to Restart, remove the USB Key.
Guess what!! In the USB Key (at the root) there was again some '.exe' Files...
    In conclusion :
There is an issue with that new release of Mountain Lion 10.8.2 that cause the system to get hang, when "Finder" meet an '.exe' file.
It occurs only when you open your "Finder" then go throughout some folder where you have placed some '.exe'  file. Then your system will not respond anymore. You got to force the restart
Just to make it clear, of course I do not want to run an '.exe' file under Mac.
But If like me you have Parallel Desktop in order to run Window7 or 8; you might have some '.exe' file that are located in your Mac Folder…..
Then, when you open 'Finder' and you walk through your folder and meet an '.exe' file, thus you system will freeze!!
Work Arround Solution, that's only happen if your '.exe' File is not associtaed to be open under Window Explorer (if you have Parallel Desktop, of course).
Then, make sure to associate the extension '.exe' to Window Explorer,  if you have some '.exe' File that are located in your folder or USB key,
Otherwise your system will freeze and you will have to force the restart.
    Cheers

That right I do not need to have any .exe file in my Mac environment; but having
installed Parallel Desktop (to have a Window Environment, due to business matters)
you might have from time to time some of that files ins download area or in the USB key.
The Test I made is very simple : I placed an .exe file in an USB Key; then plug in to my Mac
then from Finder open the folder where was that exe file…. Guess what ???
My computer get FREEZE (no respond)… I got to reboot.
Then I do not know what's going on. With the previous version (10.8.1) I never got such of issue ?
Here is the log beofre I had to restart:

  • Can not start exe file. 102208 error.

Hello I have a pretty big labview project. It can be successfully compiled and started on my PC. But when I try to run exe file on another PC I got an error. Error code is 102208 and message suggests me to install "Full Development System". Does anybody know why it could be possible? Both PCs have "Professional Development System" installed. The only difference is that my LabView is English another Korean.
    Thank you.

    1) Check you have included all dependencies in your project when you built the Exe.
    2) Check you didn't have "Require the LabVIEW Development Environment" ticked when you build your Exe - that way you can eliminate lots of errors.
    3) if all else fails, create an installer to install the exe on PC 2 from PC 1 - then you are sorted. If you follow the above steps and include the correct things in the installer, then it will be able to run on a machine without LabVIEW.
I suspect 1 of 2 things is wrong:
    1) you have different versions of LabVIEW
    2) you have a component installed which the exe needs which is not installed on the Korean machine
    3) you have set the EXE language not to include Korean.
     - either of these could upset the Exe as they could cause it to not have the required components to run.
    Hope this helps

  • Crossover 8 does not open exe files., Crossover 8 does not open exe files., Crossover 8 does not open exe files.

Okay, I am just frustrated in trying to get Crossover 8 to launch exe files after installing and reinstalling for 5 times just to read one Windows document. I tried other versions such as 9,10, and 12(I couldn't get 11 as I have tried, including Wine 1.2 and 1.6). Can anyone help me? I would really appreciate it.

There are many Windows applications that either won't work at all or that only work partially with Crossover. I'd suggest, as Eric said, you take up this issue with Crossover Support or on their forums:
    http://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/general/?;t=27
You'll be more likely to get help there, though you'll need to tell people there specifically what applications you're trying to run.

  • To EXE Not To EXE: that's NOT the question

    Hi folks.
My problem is very simply: I don`t want my application to be an open source code. My solution to a problem
doesn`t have to be open to everyone. So how can i "encrypt" my bytecodes without having to write a class loader. Can anybody help me?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Marla.-

    Hmm,
Well sounds like your going to be writing a GUI client that connects to an application server or a database
    server.
The first question is will there be any possibility of your application running without a connection to the
    server?
If the answer is yes, then of course you will need a GUI app. If the answer is no, then you can consider
having all code on the server with a thin client.
If your going the thin client direction, then you will either choose a Web Browser and JSP (or some such) or
a Java GUI thin client that connects to the server for data and screen info (eg. xml parsed from server to
client that tells the client what the menus are, what the browses are, what the fields in the browse is, etc).
If you go the thin client, then extensive use of reflection would be best. This would make it hard to
obuscate. Of course if you stream the code via sockets to the client then you could use obuscation, but
the code passed from the server could not be obuscated. Then you would only have the issue of the
    server code.
If your writing a fat gui client then you can avoid reflection. Of course reflection makes writing an advanced
gui app so much easier, but you don't realy need it. In that case then you could obuscate.
The bottom line is that you do need some form of registration and license management, even if you do
obuscate. The reason being that people can still copy your programs, they will just find it hard to delve
into your code. A determined person will be able to get past obuscated code though.
Traditional forms of license management is via a server that registers connections. You know how many
concurrent seats the client is licensed for and you only allow that many concurrent connections. Use of
the system registry with some hash keys or encrypted (or obscure) encoding of such data is the best
direction. Normaly a hash key that contains the license and number of seats is entered when you
install. This is stored on the server and used for license management. Personaly I have never had to
worry about it, but I understand the concepts and it's a good method to prevent casual copying and
license breaches. A determined person is almost impossible to stop though.

  • Safari not downloading exe files for vista

The only problem I have with Safari is that it won't save downloaded exe files. As the download finalizes, an error box pops up.
"Windows found that this file is potentially harmful.
To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file."
I went to the Windows Security control panel to see if I could turn it off. However, it only offers help for Internet Explorer. Any help is graciously appreciated.

The hatter is correct. Safari uses the Windows "attachment manager" interface to allow virus checkers and other security software to validate downloaded files.
More info on the attachment manager:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883260
It is likely that a virus checker (or related software like Windows Defender) is flagging the files as being infected or otherwise harmful. You might want to check the AVG and Windows Defender logs to see if they indicate any problems.
Another possibility would be that your system is configured through group policy or via the registry to flag these files as high-risk, which disallows them from being opened. Refer to the Microsoft KB article above for more information.
