It's official: 9/24 MacL webcast, iTU/Woolamaloo (and YOUR tool too!)

Hi guys,
It's official ... the next MacLearning.org webcast (September 24th at 10:00 AM PDT) is going to be all about iTunes U and Woolamaloo. I'll be presenting, along with Apple's own Miguel Young. I'll send more detail later ... but the date, time, and theme are set. I mean, I've already got, oh, like 25 slides made ... so this is serious.
And while I'll be spending some time talking about Woolamaloo, I also want to highlight some of the awesome things you guys are doing (and there are some really cool things out there). I think I know where most of the stuff is, but I hate to miss anyone/anything. If you could pop me off an e-mail ([email protected]) ... tell me a little about yourself and your tool, I'll be sure not only to check it out (if I haven't played with it already) and mention you, your tool, and your website.
Ultimately, though, the über-goal is to have MacLearning.org serve as a kind of portal ... a collection point ... for external tools and iTunes U expertise (ditto for Podcast Producer, etc. etc.). That way, you don't have to scour the forums for links to this kind of stuff ... for "how to's" and "here is the story of how we implemented yadda, yadda". The idea is not to replace the iTunes U forums here ... but to give you a simpler way to find the info you need. A first step is collecting info tools/techniques ... getting your story if you have a tool or solution.

    I am having similar issues except that the store starts to load, then stops, then I only get iTunes Store in gray letters on a white screen. I can access playlist and the other stuff. Like flamesgirl, I contacted them and they just keep sending me links of stuff to try which I had already seen on the Apple website and nothing works. I posted the question on another forum I belong to and one responder said her husband was in an Apple store and asked about this problem as he was having the same issue. They said an update would be coming out soon as they were aware of the problem. Who knows.

  • Official RDP client for all major platforms and certificate issue only on windows

    We have been fully embracing RDS and remote apps(working great internally). On the four major platforms OSX iOS Android and Windows we are using the official Microsoft application to connect to "Remote Resources" through VPN. Every platform besides
    windows just popped up a certificate error you could accept. The windows client from the windows store was a miserable experience by going to the webpage and installing the certificate into the Trusted Root Certification Authorities. Something no end user
    will be able to achieve.
    Why is the windows experience worse then the other 3 platforms. I am by no means certificate expert. Is this where we purchase an offical certificate and not have this issue? Still doesn't explain the lack of user friendliness on windows compared to the
    other OS'es

    I understand what you mean.  One thing to keep in mind is that making it as easy as it is on the non-windows clients for end users to simply choose to trust the certificate and proceed is a security risk.  If the end users would contact their admin
    via phone and verify that the thumbprint shown matches the cert thumbprint on the server then it would be okay, but people generally will not do that.

  • Safari, Itues, MSN and Update-programm doesnt open anymore!

    I have a unusuall problem.
    Yesterday my mac requested me to turn it off, during i was installing a safrai update. when i switched my mac on again, i was unable to use any programm that uses the internet!!
    My Airport ist active and shows that i have a great singanl ! but any application/programm such as safari itunes etc. doesn`t opne anymore. when i click on the symbol eg. the safari symbol it jumps up and down for 5 second as usually but then it stops and does nothing. in other words the programm doesn´t open anymore.
    Moreover the softwareupdater doesnt upen too (i quess its caused by the same problem, that no programm that uses the internet doesn`t open anymore"

    Welcome to the Apple forums. There is no one from Apple here: we are all users like you and offer suggestions depending on what information we have. Unfortunately from your description, you have had a kernel panic (KP). The computer or OS has had a problem and stopped. Most can be fixed easily, although some may require a bit more work.
    If your reading English is up to it, try Doctor Smoke's FAQ on Kernel Panics as there are several useful ideas there. (Buy his book if you can.)
    You have restarted and there are problems, so I would suggest a restart with the grey install disk. Select the language then use the menu at the top of the screen to access the Utilities and the application, Disk Utility. Repair the disk.
    If you have added RAM recently, that can sometimes be a cause of the KP so removing/replacing that might help (if that is a cause).
    It might be helpful as this is internet related if you use Network preferences and create a new Location. Perhaps if you are using "Automatic" there are some settings/data in there that may be causing conflicts.
    It might also be useful to create a new Admin account and to work from there (if the other account has problems). Until you can safely use Safari (it is not properly downloaded and the old version is compromised) try to use Firefox or another browser.
    In the username>Library>Preferences folder, there are files that end in .plist (property list), find those for Safari, and put them in the Trash.
    Try these things and come back to the forum and let us know how it went. If my words are not clear (I know there is a lot here) come back and we will try and explain in another way.

    The Security Questions are not associated with your device - they are associated with your iTunes account/AppleID. If you cannot remember what you originally set up for your security questions, here are the instructions for getting them reset. First set are for if you set up a Rescue Email address, second set are for if you did not.

  • Unable to download application app will be available for download when you log into the itues store on your computer

    My Ipad 2 keeps asking:-

    If i connect it to the computer it is fine for around a week then it starts asking to be connected again, Is their any reason for this? as it is very annoying espicailly when access to a pc is difficult

    There is a 20mb file size limit over 3G.
    If you can connect via wifi, there is no file size limit.
    If that is not what you mean, I have no idea-never heard of or seen a message like you describe.

    I've checked your account using the email address/Adobe ID that you use here in the forums, and I don't see any registered products. Is it possible that you registered InDesign under a different Adobe ID?
    That said, you might find this document useful: Find your serial number quickly. And you're welcome to Contact Customer Care again; if you did register under a different Adobe ID, they may be able to help you track that down.

    To get you previously downloaded iTunes U tracks to appear in the new iTunes U section, you need to change the media kind for the tracks. It looks like this was a new field added in this latest release. Select all the iTunes U tracks. Then right click and select "Get Info". On the Options tab you will see a field labeled "Media Kind". Change the value to "iTunes U". The tracks will now show up in the iTunes U section. Should be the same thing for podcasts as well. Just pick the value of "Podcasts".

Does anyone know of a plugin/extension or another way to edit the content in dreamweaver without having to upload every change to my server to view?

    I have what would probably be the same problem.  While I can read official threads just fine, the big green "Reply" button is greyed out.  Made a forum account just to post my suggestion, too. >.<  Anyways...
    Could someone post this next bit in the "7.0 and your feedback on the new chat UI" thread for me, please, since it won't let me even make a reply there?

    Skype bundles a number of languages with the standard installation file but there are more languages available for the interface. Some of these are really hard to find on the forum or web so to make life easier, some translators have opened a project on SourceForge (download your lang file here) where you can now get all the .lang / .ts and .qm files (as far as we know). To install in Windows, go to Skype and select Tools » Change Language » Load Skype Language file. To install on Linux, check the wiki on SourceForge.

  • Is my soundcard officially DEAD? Someone PLEASE HELP ME!

    I have the Soundblaster USB 24bit external, its an old version and had it for about 2yrs now. Its worked great up till today when I think I killed it. Ive always had the sound card connected (via USB) directly to my laptop, but today I wanted to try running it off my USB (non powered) hub, it worked. But 0mins after when I went back to plugging it back directly to my laptop there was NO more sound coming from it at all. I have it connected from the soundcard optical out to my receiver optical in. I tried removing the drivers, tried different optical cable, still nothing. The thing is, I lost my install CD that came with it and when I went to reinstall the drivers for this sound, all I could find on the creative site was an update driver way back from 2007. In the device manager it says its installed but in the control panel--->add/remove programs, nothing under creative labs shows up (which it did before). I tried googling up the driver for this soundcard but nothing.
    What do you guys think? I have no idea if my soundcard is now dead. I dont want to run out and buy a new card if this one is still good. If so, I need to find the official driver for this card. I cant find it anywhere!

    What do you mean he chose his and your number during setup. Chose them for what? Is you number showing up in the Settings>Messages>"You can be reached by imessage at" section? If it is he needs to remove it.

  • Re: Official Complaint

    I've been trying to order BT unlimited broadband for several weeks.  Despite telling them in several phone calls and emails that they had the wrong address for the phone line they assured me that all would be well and a new hub would be sent to the correct address and the engineer would be directed to the correct property.  This turned out to be false as the new hub wasn't sent out and the engineer of course went to the wrong address.
    I raised an official complaint, well actually I tried to raise it several times but was fobbed off until finally someone gave me a complaint number, a manager then rang that day to promise me she would 'train' her staff to not lie about having fixed the problem when they hadn't.  She than promised that she was on the case and that a specialist reorder team would ring me before 8 that evening.  This of course also turned out to be false.  (maybe she needed to train herself ?)
    The next day I raised the complaint again and was told that the previous managers senior would ring me that day and that the specialist troubleshooting team would ring me before 8pm that night.  This of course also turned out to be false.
    Finally received a text to say 'your case has been passed to the Dundee Trouble shooter team.  One of our advisors will contact you by 8pm' the next day.  This of course also turned out to be false.  (anyone spotting the pattern?)
    I think I will cancel the order and try Plusnet, as surely they can't be as incompetent ?

  • Slide deck alongside video in a webcast

    Hi there,  what would be the best and most reliable way to use Flash to crate "PowerPoint" slideshows to run along a video in a webpage. i.e. a webcast with video and slides for the viewer, and a control page for the slide deck? Most webcasts have the video in h264 and the slides are flv.
    Is Flash or the .flv the best and most efficient way to get slides synced up in a live webcast - pre loading and conversion will be essential here I guess.

    Not so much.  You can do the "powerpoint with a speaker" thing with most of the big conferencing tools - Adobe Connect / WebEx / Hangouts / etc.  You could also just do a live stream with Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder (it's free), and just switch input sources between the speaker and the slides.  Again, you'd just use a machine with powerpoint / keynote or whatever as the input source.
