It's official. RoboHelp Lives!

Thanx to Chuck Martin, scribe at the WritersUA conference
here in Palm Springs, there's good news about RoboHelp.
http://ua2006.blogspot.com/
There have been group forums and nearly 20 separate
one-on-one meetings between RoboHelp engineering and product
managers and RoboHelp users over the past two days and more
sessions tomorrow. Adobe has had an earful of requests for future
development. Clearly, Adobe has a way different attitude and is
aggressively pursuing new development.
Stay tuned.
John

There are still some who have not see the messages on this
and other message boards. To clarify and bring together the various
reports, I will try to be as specific as I can about what I know
regarding RoboHelp's future. This is based on reporting at the
WritersUA conference, April 9-12.
1. On April 11, at the WritersUA conference Karl Matthews,
Adobe Group Product Marketing Manager made a public statement to
several hundred technical writers at the gathering. He said that
Adobe is committed to RoboHelp and that a new release was in
progress and expected "in the first quarter of 2007, if not
before." So, while this may not be the "date certain" that many
would like, it is about as specific as can be expected, given that
Adobe is a public company and they must be careful because of SEC
regulations.
2. Among the 7 Adobe representatives at this conference in
addition to Karl were Vipul Bansar, RoboHelp's Product Manager and
Vivek Kumar, directing RoboHelp's engineering effort on the next
release, Michael Hu, RoboHelp's Product Marketing Manager, Jeff
Booher, engineering (who goes back to Blue Sky Software and eHelp),
RJ Jacquez, RoboHelp and Framemaker evangelist (also formerly of
eHelp), and Raul Ramos, Product Support Specialist (also formerly
with eHelp)
3. During the three-day conference, there was a RoboHelp
Customer Advisory Forum held with the Adobe representatives with 12
writers representing many facets of the user community offer their
ideas on the next release. In addition, there were more than 20
additional one-on-one meetings between RoboHelp users and Adobe
engineers.
4. The meetings of these more than 30 RoboHelpers resulted
from a public invitation to submit a questionnaire offering their
thoughts on RoboHelp's future. Anyone can still download this
questionnaire and submit it so that their thoughts are included.
You will find it here
http://www.hypertexas.com/
5. From my discussions with the engineering team, I gathered
that considerable progress was made at WritersUA. We often think of
these kinds of gatherings as superficial marketing events. But as
an instructor, concerned about Adobe's commitment, I was pleased to
see they came to WritersUA to "work" rather than schmooze.
6. Adobe is positioning RoboHelp as part of a family of
technical documentation tools that include Framemaker, Captivate
and Acrobat. Personally, I think this is a great group of products
as they can all thrive on the synergy.
The Adobe folks remarked that the rich input they received
will actually accelerate the process because it both validated some
key development areas as well as exposed others that should receive
more attention than they first realized. I got the impression that
because of WritersUA, the release would be sooner not later.
As for working with WIndows Vista, future XML help formats
and the rest, it certainly makes sense that a company of Adobe's
stature would release a product that is compatible with such a
major operating system.
I am not an Adobe employee, nor an official spokesperson. I
am an independent RoboHelp instructor since 1992 and very happy to
see that Adobe has taken a 180 degree turnaround from the previous
management.

  • [SOLVED] Remastering official install live iso - how to create initrd?

The wiki entry about Remastering the Install ISO does not mention how to generate a custom initrd with mkinitcpio for the live cd.
Update: Thanks to djgera's answer i have been able to make it work:
    Environment:
    mkdir -p ~/arch/{iso,custom}
    sudo mount -t iso9660 -o loop ~/archlinux-2013.07.01-dual.iso ~/arch/iso
    cp -av ~/arch/iso/* ~/arch/custom && sync && sudo umount ~/arch/iso
    unsquashfs -d ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/root-image.fs.sfs
    Mount:
    mkdir ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root/mnt
    sudo mount ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root/root-image.fs ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root/mnt
    sudo mount -vB /dev ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root/mnt/dev
    sudo mount -vB /sys ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root/mnt/sys
sudo mount -vt proc none ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root/mnt/proc
    Copied kernel to environment:
    cp ~/arch/custom/arch/boot/x86_64/vmlinuz ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root/mnt/boot/vmlinuz-linux
    Chroot:
    sudo chroot ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root/mnt /bin/bash
    # make changes to the live system
    export LC_ALL='en_US.UTF-8'
    locale-gen
    mkinitcpio -c /etc/mkinitcpio-archiso.conf -k /boot/vmlinuz-linux -g /boot/archiso.img
    rm /boot/vmlinuz-linux
    exit
Moved new initrd out of environment:
    mv ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root/mnt/boot/archiso.img ~/arch/custom/arch/boot/x86_64/archiso.img
    Unmount:
    sudo umount ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root/mnt/{dev,sys,proc}
    sudo umount ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root/mnt
    Create squashfs:
    rm ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/root-image.fs.sfs
    mksquashfs ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/root-image.fs.sfs
    rm -rf ~/arch/custom/arch/x86_64/squashfs-root
    Create iso:
    genisoimage -l -r -J -V "ARCH_201307" -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -c isolinux/boot.cat -o ~/arch/archlinux-2013.07.01-dual_custom.iso ~/arch/custom

    Hello
    Run inside chroot:
    mkinitcpio -c /etc/mkinitcpio-archiso.conf -k /boot/vmlinuz-linux -g /boot/archiso.img
But doing these steps are too much complex, do not remaster (also such wiki is outdated). Just create a new customized one using archiso::releng profile.
    pacman -S archiso
cd /tmp # or any other working directory with at least 3G free
    cp -r /usr/share/archiso/configs/releng .
    cd releng
    # cutomize what you want here (look on root-image/ directory and build.sh to see how things works)
    # sed 's/i686//' build.sh Do this if you not want also i686 on final iso.
    ./build.sh
I suggest to build a new one without any cuztomizations to see how things works, next start to cuztomize it.

  • The official unofficial Live! 24bit 7.1 complaint thre

I'm very disatisfied with this product. It uses WAY TOO MUCH cpu time and performs HORRIBLY with games. I swear on my mother's grave, that the Sound Blaster 6 PCI performed at least 20X better than the SB Li've! 24bit. I want my 30 bucks back!
LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS! FIX YOUR PRODUCT!

The Li've! 24-bit is a software-based card. That means it doesn't have the DSP with which the original?Li've!, Audigy, Audigy2 and X-Fi come with. All EAX functions are essentially software based and the onboard processor has very limited functionality. Despite its name, an original Li've! is much more powerful than the Li've! 24-bit, albeit lacking the 24-bit unit and having inferior quality DACs. In essence this card is not made for gaming. You should always research before you buy anything and always know that cheaper isn't always better value for money.

  • ADSL up and running but account not live until 24/...

Just off by chance happened to put in my btinternet username and password into my adsl2+ router and it connected fine and I can now access the internet (using 3g right now though) the profile is set to 2000 and connected as ADSL but not ADSL2+ yet as it should not really be 'live' yet.
Under BE/Sky who I have being with before I connected at anything between 18-22mbit so fingers crossed for BT
    My main questions are:
Am I safe to use the router now or will this mess up the 10 day training period?
Is it normal for it to connect as ADSL first and not ADSL2+?
If it should be ADSL2+ do I need to get this changed before I get my Home Hub 2?
In the meantime I have powered off my router as I do not want to mess anything up.
    Dale
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

21CN and all the BT tests done so far have pointed towards a connection of 15mb+ so this is the reason why I signed up to pay extra for BT Total Broadband Option 3.
As long as I get back to ADSL2+ by Monday when my account officially goes live then I will be happy, even if there is a slight drop in speed I can live with that what I cannot live with is if it sticks to 8mb because of a lack of connection points in the exchange and will be asking BT to resolve it asap.
My concern now is if I am connected to the DSLAM which means I will be stuck with a connection at half the speed of what I paid for before and paying more for it.
Really appreciate your help on this just worried now they have stuck me on ADSL and there won't be anyway to migrate onto ADSL2+

  • Nokia 5800 windows live messenger

many times i have tried 2 install windows live messenger in my nokia 5800 but it says expired certifiacte . where can i dwnload the messenger for free which works

I have a Nokia 5800, I got it in the first week that it was released in the UK. (Just in case it's a particular version.)
I have got the official Windows Live Messenger application, it installed without any problems whatsoever.
But, I have a really weird problem. This is what happens...
    I open the application.
It shows me the sign in screen.
I click the textbox and start to enter my email address... I get about half way through entering it then....
My phone instantly turns off and the screen fades away!
It isn't always the same place where I am editing text, but it's always in the sign in process.
I haven't a clue why this happens, it has never happened in any other application, but happens every time with Messenger?!?!
(Before anyone asks: Yes, my phone was charged.)

  • Live Migration of Lync 2010 Servers

Hello we have a new Hyper-V 2012R2 3-node cluster.  We are currently running our 02 nodes of Lync servers (DI, ED, etc...) and would like to know if MSFT has officially sanctioned live migration of Lync Servers.  In 2008R2 it was explicitly defined
not to migrate certain workloads such as Exchange, SQL and Lync servers.  What is status on 12R2 and if approved is there an official document stating such as I haven't found.
    Thanks,

Live Migration is not supported for Lync 2010 or 2013 servers. I'm not sure if there is an official doc for 2010, but here's the doc for 2013:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=41936
They also recommend that you turn off hyperthreading and NUMA, although I think it's technically supported to leave them on.

  • ? about persistent indicator and use of nav tag

    Hi,
I have read Nancy O's informative article on persistent indicators.  I think I have everything almost working.  However, I get some errors when I validate on W3C validation service.
    The errors I get are:
Line 22, Column 23: document type does not allow element "body" here
        <body class="live">
Line 23, Column 9: element "nav" undefined
        <nav>
Line 37, Column 10: end tag for "body" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified
        </div>
You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".
Any thoughts on what I have done wrong.  I have pasted the code for both the page and the relevant include below.  Also, I had two questions about the use of the nav.  What happens to my menu when it is viewed in an older browser that doesn't support nav?  Also, could one have an upper and lower menu bar using the nav tag with different CSS properties?

Regarding my navigation menu bar, I had originally used a  <div id="bottomnavbar"> and then defined in CSS as #bottomnavbar to stylize/format.  However, when was having trouble getting the persistent indicator to work, while discussing this problem another frequent poster told me to not use div for menu bar and instead use nav tag which I did.  However, I still have the concern that folks with older browsers won't be able to view the menu correctly.  From what I have read, I could add the following to the head (after any CSS links) and then the nav menu would be able to be viewed correctly on older browsers.  Am I correct in that assumption?
    <!--[if lt IE 9]>
      <script src="http://html5shiv.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js"></script>
    <![endif]-->
Yes, you are correct - the script above makes any html5 tag such as <nav></nav> compatible with IE8 and below. but I personally don't really make much of an effort to support IE8 any longer.
    mojokk wrote:
if that works, then it sounds as though that would be ok. But I have another page that would have 2 menu bars, one at the top of the header image and one at the bottom head image.  It sounds as though I wouldn't be able to use the nav tag for both since the vertical positioning of the text would be different, so I should go back and use divs for menu bars. Am I correct in this assumption?
You would give each <nav></nav> a class like:
    <nav class="topNav"></nav>
    <nav class="bottomNav"></nav>
<nav></nav> is just a container like <div></div> (see below) only with more meaning, ie navigation.
    <div class="topNav"></div>
    <div class="bottomNav"></div>
Then do as you have always done and style the content in the container/s:
    .topNav {
    .bottomNav {

Also, if I have one page with HTML5 audio in it, should it still work in older browsers as long as I have the first four lines suggested above.  The script (based on jquery has a flash back up for older browsers).
I don't know much about audio, so can't help you out on this one.
    mojokk wrote:
One other question, in my CSS I have defined my header's position as fixed (position:fixed;) so the content below will scroll up and one will still see header and menu bar.  However, when one scrolls on the page (Iphone) using touch screen, the text content can shift to right or left.  I assume I need to add something to the CSS of .content to prevent it from moving on the horizon.  Thoughts?
Difficult to say what is happening in this instance - you probably need to upload the page and provide a url so someone can take a look and see if they are seeing what you are seeing.

  • Single sourcing tools for paper and html help

    Hi
Today I started a new job where html help is made in RoboHelp
and the paper manual is made in Word. Both are translated to 5
languages, so the translators also use Word and RoboHelp.
Unfortunately there is no single sourcing at all.
I want to introduce single-sourcing so that I use the same
source for output to html help and paper.
I am used to FrameMaker for paper output and the WebWorks
Publisher plugin for the html help output.
If I were alone I might use FrameMaker and Madcap Blaze. I
think however that I can introduce one but not two new tools for
    the 5 translators.
What Is your suggestion? Which tools should I use? Word
hasn't the conditional text feature I need. I don't belive that
RoboHelp can create a Word output which lives up to the Company
design standards. Besides, will Robohelp live, does it works under
    Window Vista?

Hi Polle2. First of all there are many users on these forums
who use RH to single source with no problems. Sure RH single
sourcing requires a little thought and set-up - just like most our
"true single source" tools. There's a new version of RH planned
(version X6) and currently in beta test but we won't know what
included in it until it's formally released.
As far as product comparisons are concerned, I've not used
Madcap Blaze and neither has anyone else as I believe it's not
released yet. My two penneth worth is you are right to go down the
single sourcing line and that RH - and other tools - could all fit
the bill. It all depends on which one fits your specific
    needs.

  • WINLINE ISSUES ON N95

I have been trying to download WinLive to my N95 but the folder just isn't appearing no matter what I do. I have checked and I have the latest firmware.
I have spoken to O2, Microsoft and Nokia on many occassions and the general opinion is that it is Nokia who needs to sort it. However, I'm not sure if any of you have tried talking to Nokia but basically they have not got a b****y clue! After many calls the final outcome is that I can not see the folder as my phone is..... wait for it.... associated to a network!!!!
Thats right, all the brains in Nokia have told me that because I use O2 as my provider the software can not be downloaded. Apparently the only way to download the software is to buy a network free phone. Now I don't know about you guys but that sounded complete rubbish to me so I ran it past the O2 Technical guys who just laughed and said that they all have Winlive on their phones (registered to the O2 network, obviously) but they have now lost the folder too!!
NOKIA, YOU REALLY NEED TO SORT IT OUT!!
Microsoft have since said that they are investigating the problem as a matter of urgency but they did not sound happy at all with Nokia.
After such a big press release about this amazing new partnership to bring WinLive software to thousands of Nokia customers this is just one HUGE embarrassment to both Microsoft and Nokia.
If anyone knows a way of solving this please can you let me know.
    Much appreciated.

It works on an E65 on O2 UK.
I installed it using the two files that you can find in this article:
    http://dshandberg.net/blog/2007/07/02/free-windows-live-suite-for-your-nokia-phone/
Officially windows live is not available in the UK yet.

Arch installations, which do not comment out following line in /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules and rebuild initramfs also hang on boot:

I'd like to be able to boot an arch install medium, without removing the SATA connectors from my board's ASM1061 (Remastering official install live iso --- how to create initrd?).
Edit: Debian's and Fedora's install media are booting fine when devices are connected to the ASM1061, Ubuntu's install medium fails to boot --- like Arch
Edit: I do not know if this is relevant: The motherboard has UEFI.
Update: It is possible to alter the arch install live iso to make it boot (Remastering official install live iso --- how to create initrd?).
