it's there a way to shut down a macbook if it was stolen?

Is it already stolen or are asking if it gets stolen in future?
In either case, if you have iCloud setup, you can do better than shut down. You can lock it remotely and 'usually' locate it using iCloud:
Here's how to set it up for your Mac:

Is there a way to track down what type of content was sent in an iMessage?
There was some data sent (that I saw from my cell phone provider) at around 7AM one morning while I was in bed.  I am concerned as to what this data was and would like to find out if it is possible to trace what the content was?  My cell provided indicated that they do not know what type of data it was.

    Hello Michael:
I have not yet seen a
good approach to using that information (short of
    deleting the account).
better search some yourself Barry <G>
if something runs fine in another account - one can isolate the cause to one of the plist files in the main acct Home/Library/Preferences/ or possibly an add-on in Home/Library/Internet Pug-Ins or ...Input Managers for example.
If there is the same problem in the new acct - you can discount anything with the main acct user library - plists, caches, plugins, input managers, the whole lot.
A useful tool is Console - found in Applications/Utilities/ keep it running while the 'problem' in question crops up & see if any messages pop up in either the system log or console log. Sometimes these will point straight at the problem area, other times no help at all.

  • HT201317 is there a way to view my photos if my phone was stolen and has been turned off?

is there a way to view my photos if my phone was stolen and has been turned off?

No. All you can do if you have Find My Phone setup is erase the device or lock it. It must be connected to Wi-Fi in order for the commands to take effect.
What To Do If Your iDevice or Computer Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • There any way to know where my ipad, because it was stolen? and do not use iCloud? besides not remember if you have installed any applications to track it?

there any way to know where my ipad, because it was stolen? and do not use iCloud? besides not remember if you have installed any applications to track it?

If you did not set up Find My iPad, then there is no way to track it. Contact the police and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPad (the iTunes Store, for instance).

  • Ways of shutting down a headless Mac Mini unit

Aside from setting for a time for it to shut down automatically and hard shut down, are there other ways of shutting down a headless Mac Mini?

Thanks. I'm planning on connecting my Mac Mini to my router and make it stream media through the network. I just figured out a primitive way of shutting it down without the need of a mouse/keyboard/monitor, because it will be without any of those, using the apple script email shutdown. I know it's kinda dumb but it's worth a try.

  • When I am talking on the phone, is there a way to shut off the screen so my face does not press buttons?  I am using an Iphone 4.

When I am talking on the phone, is there a way to shut down the screen so that my face does not touch the buttons?

It is supposed to shut off on its own. Some users have reported cases or screen covers that have interfered with the proper functioning of the proximity sensor. If you've removed those and cleaned the screen and still have the same problem you may have a defective proximity sensor. You may find more information by doing an internet search for "iphone proximity sensor."

  • How to properly shut down your Macbook?

Hello, I have been using a Macbook Pro for nearly a year now. I would like to know what is the proper way to shut down your macbook?
I went to iStudy for some app instalment and the sales asisstant gave me a piece of (advice?) that whenever I want to shut down my macbook, i should just snap it close after I have quit all the running applications. I don't have to press the shut down button on the keyboard or choose shut down at the apple upper menu bar cause it may damage my RAM.
Yet, I knew this girl who just paid 2K just to fix her motherboard due to improper way of shutting down her Mac.
So, my problem is do you have to shut your Mac down JUST by snapping it close (and of course, quit all the running applications)? Or you shut your Mac down by simply go to the Apple in the upper menu bar and choose shut down?

    Hi alswaki,
When you close all apps and then physically close it, you are putting the Mac into Sleep mode, not shutting it down. So, it depends on what you actually want to do. When you go to the Apple menu and select Shut Down, it literally shuts off the Mac, and you have to push the on/off button to start it back up. By closing the lid, you are putting it into Sleep mode so when you open the lid again, the Mac doesn't have to be powered back on to start up again.
Both are correct things to do. I pretty much don't shut down my Mac at all. I close my apps, and close the lid, then plug it in to recharge. When I want to use it, I open it and it "wakes up". I only restart it when I need to for an update, I pretty much never shut it down.
But again, either way is fine to do. If you want to completely power down your Mac when you finish using it for the day, then you would select the Shut Down option. Otherwise, just close it to put it into Sleep mode when not in use.
    Cheers,

  • Is there a way to slow down the playback of video in Captivate 5?

I just made several recordings (FMR) and would like to slow them down for the viewer.  The video was actually of someone else's software demo that moved way too fast.  On the Captivate skin there is "2x" to move the video twice as fast, but no "1/2x".  Is there another way to slow down the video?
    Thank you!

  • I bought and downloaded the Movie Hannah on my iPad, but it only plays about 2/3 and freezes... Is there a way to re-down load?

I bought and downloaded the Movie Hannah on my iPad, but it only plays about 2/3 and freezes... Is there a way to re-down load?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • HT1414 is there any way to track down my iphone when i have lost it?

I lost my iphone and i have the "find my iphone" app and thought that it may work from my mac but I am not finding a way to do that, is there any way to track down my iphone from my mac?

On your Mac, login to iCloud.com, & try to locate your phone. This requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before you lost it. It also requires your phone be turned on & connected to the Internet. There is no other way to locate a lost iPhone, other than physically looking for it.

  • Is there a way to shut off the cellular radio ?

Is there a way to shut off the cellular radio ?
I can go to “settings” and switch off cellular data.  However I still see the signal strength meter and my iPhone will ring if called.
I thought there was a way to shut off the cellular radio in an iPhone and keep the Wi-Fi turned on.

When you turn Airplane mode on, it does turn all the radios off. You can, however, turn the WiFi and bluetooth back on.
    Enjoy.

There is one faint glimmer of light. Depending on where you bought PSE you might have gotten a redemption code rather than a serial number. If you didn't also throw away your receipt, check that for a code. Then go here, if you find one:

But otherwise, I'm afraid you are out of luck, sorry.

  • Ios7 - is there a way to shut off or clear the new photo stream activity?

Ios7 - is there a way to shut off or clear the new photo stream activity?  I am not asking how to shut off photo streams, just would like to clear or shut off the new 'social' activity portion of photo stream

Thank you, but that is not it, and I am talking about the iCloud photo streams.  I know how to modify who can see or post to a shared stream, that's extremely easy.
What is an issue is the new 'social' style activity that summarizes all of the shared streams.  It now posts/summarizes them in an activity thread in 'streams', called "Activity"
I would like to shut that off or be able to clear that view.  While I enjoy the occasionally funny pics I receive from old college friends in shared streams, I don't want that to show up in a 'cover photo' when I go to pull up pics in front of someone.
