It Says My Computer Isn't Authorized -- But It is!
I recently lost my iPhone 4 and purchased a new one. Since I've been using the new phone, though, I get the following error message every time I sync:
"Some of the purchased items on the iPhone (it then lists several apps, both paid and free) could not be tranferred to your iTunes library becaue you are not authorized for them on this computer."
It then tells me how to authorize my computer. But when I do, I get another message telling me that the computer is already authorized.
I feel like I'm being told 2+2=5. Please help!
Thank you!
-Dave
What if I'm getting a message like that, but there isn't a SC folder in my Users->Shared folder? I used Migration Assistant to transfer my iTunes from another Mac to my MacBook Pro, so I would think Apple's program would know enough to (re-?)mark the files as now belonging to the new MBP...
When I try to 'authorize' the MBP, I get a message that it is authorized already, as one of 3 computers (the others, I'm guessing, being my iMac and my PowerBook/Pismo...). Almost afraid to de-authorize the PowerBook, lest iTunes decide that now I am NOT authorized on the MBP for any tunes from the PowerBook/Pismo.

Ipod won't sync b/c Itunes says my computer isn't authorized but it is
I built a new computer but Itunes hasn't recognized my Ipod (seperate issue)so right now I'm syncing it to a netbook connected to the same external hard drive I use with my main new computer with my music on the drive. I have authorised the computer to my account but some files (mostly videos) still won't sync because itunes thinks that the computer isn't authorized even though it is. How can I fix this?
I had that problem myself just last week, and this is what Apple told me to do. It worked for me.
Choose Start > Computer.
Choose Organize > Folder and Search Options.
Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
Click OK.
Navigate to the following location by either typing it into the address bar, copying and pasting it into the address bar, or clicking through the folder hierarchy listed:
C:\Program Data\Apple Computer\iTunes
Right-click the SC Info folder shown and from the shortcut menu, choose Delete.
Restart the computer.
Open iTunes.
Authorize your computer to play your purchases. -
iTunes says my computer isn't authorized to play one of the songs I just downloaded, but all the rest of them work. That song works on my iPad so why won't it work on my computer or my iPod? It says my computer isn't authorized to play that song so I type in my password and it pops up with a menu saying my computer is already authorized and it skips to the next song. No matter what I do it won't play that song on my laptop or my iPod.
Could be a Corrupt download of that song...
If you live in a Region that allows re-downloading Music...
Delete the Song(s) and re-download...

My computer says it can't copy some songs to my iPhone because my computer isn't authorized, but it is.
Hi Sonnova,
Do you happen to have more than one Apple ID? If you've authorised your computer using the one you're signed into then the most likely cause is that the iTunes purchases were made on another Apple ID.
To check you bought them on the Apple ID you're signed into, you can go into iTunes, click on Store and View My Account. From there you should have a Purchase History option where you can check the songs were bought on that account.
If you have another Apple ID then try to sign into that one (sign out of current one and into new one under Store in iTunes), then Transfer Purchases again and you should have no issues.
Hope this helps. -
I downloaded an album but some of the songs won't play - says my computer isn't authorized to play the song. I checked the authorization, and this computer is authorized. How do I fix this?
If just some of the tracks on the album are doing that, that suggests those tracks are damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items. -

I successfully transferred my itunes to another PC, when I click on most (not all) songs, it tells me to authorize the computer, I authorize it, it says this computer is already authorized, but when i click on a song, it tells me to authorize again. help
Are the songs authorised to the same account?
Often people change their e-mail address over time, and also decide to set up new iTunes account names using that e-mail. You can (and should) continue to use an old e-mail address as your account name. Then you don't run into the issue of having different songs authorised to different accounts.
To check the authorised account for the song, click "Get info" on the song name in iTunes. It will show the account name in the Summary panel.
If you have set up multiple accounts, log into each one, and burn the songs to CD as audio tracks (i.e. like a normal CD, not a data CD). You can then re-import the files into iTunes without the authorisation embedded into the song. -
Apple TV does not recognize my Apple account username (email) and password, but iTunes, my iPad and iPhone does. I have rest my password three times, same results.
ATV says my computer is not authorized, but i-Tunes says it is.
I have i-Tunes open on my computer and have entered i-Tunes store, ATV says it can't access the store. Both on the same network!
I am so frustrated with this system! All these problems with Apple TV are not the end but the beginning.
In i-Tunes, songs are lost when they have not been moved. I lose whole albums I have ripped from CDs to iTunes
An audiobook book in two files are in the library but only one file is recognized by iTunes when I try to play it or transfer it to my iPhoneI Am having the same issue. Ie on the password issue.
I Am using a Macpro though.
i Have had no issues with the setup until recently.
However I think the hard drive is starting to fail as it keeps on losing the wireless connection and gas been stuttering a lot on playback. -

Itunes says my computer isn't authorized to play certain songs but it is.
Due to poor planning on our part, my wife and I have three apple ID's. For some reason, iTunes now won't play music that was purchased with the oldest apple ID. Whenever I try to play a song bought with that ID, I get a message saying "This computer is not authorized to play 'Song Name.' Would you like to authorize it?" I am then prompted to enter the password for the apple ID. After I've done that, I get a message saying "This computer is already authorized." However, it still won't play anything. I've searched throughout this forum and found similar issues, but all of the solutions seem to be tailored to previous OS and versions of iTunes. I'm using Mountain Lion and have iTunes 11.2. I've tried deleting all of the com.apple.iTunes files from Library, but that didn't seem to do anything. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks. I had already read that article and followed the steps. The article is outdated and appears to be talking about a previous version of iTunes and/or OS X (I couldn't find a SC Info folder anywhere). I did figure out the issue on my one. One of my apple ID's is fakeappleid and the other is [email protected] When I clicked "Get Info" on the songs that weren't authorized anymore, it said that they were associated with the fakeappleid user name. Also, iTunes kept prompting me to enter the fakeappleid login info and then telling me that the computer was already authorized. Only when I tried re-authorizing my computer for [email protected] would my songs play. So the confusion lies with the fact that iTunes was telling me one apple ID wasn't authorized my computer when it was actually another apple ID that wasn't authorized. Hope that makes sense.

ITunes says my computer is not authorized but it is
Okay, so whenever I try to sync my iPad or iPhone, iTunes tells me my computer isn't authorized. But when I go to authorize it, it says it is already authorized. I've tried turning authorization on and off, deleting the SC or whatever folder like the help page says, nothing works. Has anyone else had this issue and if so can you please share how you fixed it? Thanks.

I am trying to download ringtones using Zedge. My wife had no problem doing t his and she set up my computer and my phone but it won't sync. says my computer is not authorized. She did the same steps on my computer and phone as she did on her computer and phone but mine not working. Help.
If you really are running OS 10.4.6 you have a long way to go!
So, assuming you are not, what version of OS X do you have? -
ITunes 8.1 says my computer isn't authorized anymore
Ever since the update, iTunes won't let me play my non-iTunes Plus songs and says this machine isn't authorized. It brings up that window to enter your info in to authorize it, but when I do it brings up this message:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. A required iTunes component is not installed. (-42401)
Something did mess up near the end of the 8.1 install, but I figured it just left me with the old version, but when I tried opening again, the new user terms came up and so I guess it did install. I tried to re-install but there was an error so it didn't work. Anyone else experiencing this? What should I do?I just created a playlist yesterday with one of my audible books in it and itunes told me I couldn't synch that playlist with my shuffle. I didn't sweat it because this was my 1G shuffle and I have the book on my nano, but now today there isn't even an icon in the Library for Audiobooks and when I use search in iTunes it can't find any books, but they're all in my itunes folder. What gives? I'm not feeling courageous enough to re-install based on other people's results (ala, crashing).
