I recently bought the original iPod, but when I tried connecting it to my computer, it came up with a sign that says: The iPod "iPod" cannot be use becuse it requires MAC OS X 10.4.8 or over.
Do I have to buy I whole new computer? I really hope not. That would be terrible.

What do you mean by the "original iPod"? That came out in 2001 and hasn't been on sale for years.
If you mean you bought a Classic, then yes your operating system (10.3) is out of date to use with a Classic which needs 10.4.8 or later.
Do you have to buy a whole new computer? Not necessarily, you just need to upgrade the operating system.

The messages are saying you have a 2G iPOd. Those canonly go to 4.2.1. Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPOd. A 32 can be either. To further identify yours:

I have the same issue. There are some suggestions to follow in the Apple support article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389 They didn't work for me but they may for you. My old iPhone 3S and iPad 2 syncs fine with iTunes.

did you use your sons Apple ID..? If so... those items are tied to that Apple ID.
If your issue is with the Authorization of your New Mac...

If you both have seperate iTunes Store accounts then basically, yes, it is going "screw up" your wife's account.
iTunes Match is designed as a single-user service which is associated with one and only one iTunes Store account ID. If you have subscribed on your account and want to activate the service on another computer that is already signed in with an account the present account must be signed out and then iTunes signed into your account. This means the other computer will have complete access to your account and will only be able to make purchases on your account. iTM is not designed to be signed in and out at will. If she has apps purchased with her iTunes Store account they will not be able to be updated.

You can transfer all the iTunes purchased music from the iPod Touch to your new computer.
From iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer:

Note: This option only works for content you purchased from the iTunes Store (as opposed to content from other sources, such as CDs you may have imported). This means your content can be copied from a computer to your iOS device, but cannot be copied from your device to a computer.
Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose Authorize Computer.
