It seems iTunes for Vista 64 bit isn't itself a 64 bit application

When I am on my 64 bit Vista box and I go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ site and it identified my system as "Vista (64-bit)" and I proceed with the download, and run the installer it provided it installed into c:\program files (x86)\ which is where it installs 32 bit programs. I also verified the file name to be the 64 bit one as identified in this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301301.
If it is installing into x86 folder it is not a 64 bit application. It may be a special 32 bit application that works correctly on the 64 bit version of Vista but it is not 64 bit according to Vista. Most of what I have seen seems to be misleading and not be clear on this, it seems to be implying that it is a 64 bit version of iTunes when it is not. This may have been unintentional on Apple's part.

Yeah I am not disputing that it is doing what it is supposed to. I am just disputing that it is misleading. I think it should be very clear and state that this is a 32 bit version of iTunes specific for installing on 64 bit versions of Vista.

  • Can someone help me find a workaround to get flash to work in XP Pro 64 bit, like there is a workaround for vista 64 bit?

Can someone help me find a workaround to get flash to work in XP Pro 64 bit, like there is a workaround for vista 64 bit?
I am trying to get rid of all my 32 bit apps because the more of them you run in 64 bit the less resources are available.
Firefox has a 64 bit browser they call the Shiretoko build. I love it, it's twice as fast as a heavily tweaked 32 bit firefox. Java has a 64 bit plugin that works with it.
    The last holdout is Adobe.
Microsoft is making Vista and Win 7 64 bit as easy and smooth as the 32 bit versions as a means to get people to start using them.
Linux has a way to make flash work with 64 bit.
Remember when we all had a 16 bit operating system and how much better things got with 32 bit?
Adobe, it's time!.. don't you see that?
Can someone help me solve my problem? Please?

  • Drivers for Satellite L300-1AN for Vista 64-bit

    Hello,
I just bougt a notebook, Toshiba Satellite L300-1AN, and i Intend to install Vista 64-bit OS but i didn't find drivers for Vista 64-bit (only for Vista 32-bit). Can you help me withsome information or some links?
Another question (I am not an expert): my notebook have 4Gb RAM and some guys told me that only a 64-bit OS can use all my 4Gb RAM. Is this true?
    Thank you,
    Calin

Usually the drivers have to be specifically designed for 64-bit OS, and the installer must definitely not contain any 16-bit code (which is not compatible with 64-bit OS, but which is still a common thing nowadays - for the 32-bit drivers only, obviously). Some 32-bit drivers are somehow compatible with 64-bit OS, but there's a performance limitation (and possible conflicts with other drivers and memory resource allocation; 100% compatibility with the OS, as well as the OS' manufacturer certification, are some of the key features that will make Windows 7 better than Vista, since most of the problems are related to poorly written drivers).
Searching Toshiba's site for 64-bit drivers is definitely not a solution, since the technical specs on the website are not so detailed and cannot be used in order to narrow the search area (and there's no field to search by chipset driver, regardless the product series; even with such a field, not having the files indexed properly will bring no result).
The RealTek (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Sound) and Intel (Video, Memory Controller, USB...) drivers are easy to find, but the Toshiba-specific drivers, as well as the Toshiba applications, are a little trickyer to get. Those are the ones I'm interested in.

  • Error numbers are 2502 and 2503 for installing iTunes for Windows 64 bits. How to fix?

    Hey guys,
I cannot install iTunes (latest vision) on my new laptop (Windows 64 bits), and it says that the error numbers are 2502 and 2503...
Can someone tell me how to fix this?
    Thank you!

Check your system date & time is correct.
Run the System File Checker: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
If you still have problems try a creating a new user account with administrator rights, log into it, and attempt the install from there.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

After this frustrating event, just wanted to let others know how I solved it.  After fully deleting iTunes 8 - still no success.  Finally went to the Apple store in Perth WA.  Using their in store wireless, it downloaded fully.  I use wireless 3 and obviuosly the signal is not strong enough.  The Apple store is one amzing experience - worth the frustration with getting iTunes 10 downloaded.  Will have to take another visit to the store as my upgrades keep falling over.

  • ITunes for Windows 64-bit (oops, doesn't install under XPx64)

Just as the subject states, whenever I try to install iTunes 7.6 64-bit, it declares that I must have Windows Vista in order to install this. If it's not supposed to work for XP x64, then why post that on the download page? Hopefully if you were trying to be nice and provide us with an XPx64 copy, this trouble will be corrected sometime down the road?
    Thanks in advance.

The 64 bit version of iTunes will not install on my machine either. The setup program only checks for Vista 64 and if its not then it won't allow you to install. If there's no major difference in how iTunes works under XP and Vista then It seems like all it take is for the setup program to check for Windows XP x64 then allow iTunes to install.
P.S. I've installed the 32 bit version of iTunes on XP x64. It works but is not stable; It already crashed twice.

  • ITunes for XP 64-bit

Will there ever be a version of iTunes for XP64? Our entire company recently made the move to XP64 and iTunes was working for me but has stopped since the latest update.
I really hate to lose iTunes but our company is sticking with XP64 for the foreseeable future.
Please tell me Apple is working on it and there will be an XP64 version coming very soon!!!

There is no way any of us is ever going to be able to answer that question, however I can probably say that it is safe to assume that it just isn't going to happen. 64 bit support for iTunes was not even considered until Vista was out anyway and I really doubt that re-building the wheel for an OS that Microsoft is ending sales for is not something that is going to happen.

  • How To Download 32 Bit PE10 for Vista 64 Bit PC?

I purchased a bundled Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 & Premiere Elements 10.  When attempting to install Premiere Elements 10 I received an error stating..
This installer does not support 64 Bit Windows XP or Vista.  If you are installing from discs pelase remove ths disk and insert disk #1.  If you are not installing from disk please download the 32-bit version of Premiere Elements 10.
I have only one disk in the bundle for Windows (the other is for the MAC OS)  Where/How can I download Premiere Elements 10 or a 64 bit installer for Vista for the disk I have.  I'm guessing my serial numbers are only valid for PE10.
    Thank you.

Thank you both B. Hunt and J. Smith for the time and thought spent on my issue.   I feel the root cause of my issue is described in my post #4 through the
    Adobe support link: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/cannot-install-premiere-el ements-10.html
which describes the the 64bit installer not working on 64 bit XP or bit 64bit Vista PCs.  The support article further describes how to download a 32 bit version of Premier Elements 10 and install on my 64 bit Vista machine.
While the OEM version of the software seems to be a contributor to the confusion and lacking multiple discs, the support article did not suggest that it was a packaging/bundling issue, but more so an incompatibility of operating systems and software installers.   I agree that the bait and switch by the seller (picture one thing and ship another) didn't help and I will be taking it up with them (and Amazon).  That said, not seeking to pay list price for cars, appliances, or software isn't unethical, switching or not disclosing what one is selling however is unethical.
I followed the instructions in the Adobe support post and the 32 installer worked on my 64 bit Vista machine.  I stopped just short of entering the license code as I plan to upgrade to Windows 7 64bit in order to use the 64bit version of the PE10 - which I feel would perform faster.  I'd expect that the installer would work as it did for Photoshop Elements 10 on the same OEM bundle.  My fallback position is to run the 32 bit version on the Win7 64bit machine after I upgrade.
Finally, I'm a hobbyist, just looking to create a DVD capturing a recent family reunion.  That was my objective and I'm closer to achieving it as a result of Adobe Support and your contributions.  Thank you.

  • ITunes for Vista

Is there any iTunes out there that is able to run properly on Vista? I can't install any of the updates for iTunes or my iPod. There doesnt seem to be anything on the site that supports or even talks about supporting windows vista
Its great having Longhorn and all, but if i cant use my iPod then f**k.

    Mind the language, please.
If Apple releases a version for vista, I'm sure it will be all over their website. Since vista isn't released yet, it doesn't seem to be a good business decision by Apple to put any programmers hot on the vista trail.

  • Installing iTunes on Vista 64-bit

*Looking for 64-bit support from Apple*
I'm running the 64-bit version of Windows and was disappointed to find out that Apple does not support it (see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301301 ). I tried to install iTunes anyway and the installation failed. This forum didn't provide any initial solutions that I could find so now that I've figured it out I thought I would post a solution for those that come looking.
*How do I know if I have the 64-bit version of Vista?*
Press the windows key and the Pause/Break key at the same time (the pause/break key is normally in the upper right corner of the keyboard). On the window that appears look for the label "System Type." next to it you will see text indicating whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Vista.
*What Will happen if I try to install Vista?*
You experience may varry, but when I tried the installation ran for a while and ended with a message saying Quicktime could not be installed. I checked the Programs menu and iTunes was not listed after this failure.
*How do I successfully install iTunes on a 64-bit edition of Vista?*
When you download iTunes select the option to save the installation instead of running it immediatly. After the download completes right-click on the installation and select properties. Under the "Compatibility" tab check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for." Ensure that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected. Also check the box that says "Run this program as an administrator." Click on okay and the install iTunes.
*Will this also work for XP 64-bit edition?*
    I don't know.
*I've successfully installed iTunes on my 64-bit machine. Can I use it to activate my iPhone?*
    No.
If you try to activate your iPhone you will receive a message saying "Please connect iPhone to a computer running a 32-bit version of Windows XP (SP2) or Windows Vista."
*What happens if I set iTunes to run in Compatibility mode*
iTunes will detect that it is running in a compatibility mode and suggest that you turn the mode off and restart iTunes. Since it recognizes that it is running on a 64-bit machine it will still refuse to activate an iPhone. Bummer.
*If I activate my iPhone on another machine then can i transfer content to it on Vista 64-bit edition?*
Nope. iTunes will instruct you to connect the phone to a 32-bit machine.

Yes the forum has been misbehaving recently hence my double post. Ther should be an edit button, but it is only present for a few minute.
The error you are getting has certainly been associated with a failure of Windows updates, but I don't know if the one you mention is an issue.
    The microsoft link to the update problem is;
    http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/ca7d15d7-8ee3-4993-bd01-753d adc904121033.mspx
That's about as far as I can go with this I am afraid.
