It seems my battery is losing charge more quickly than I would expect

I am new to the iPad, so htis battery usage may be normal, but I seem to be losing about 4-5% in an hour's worth of browcing on Safari or using an app. When I had asleep overnight it even lost battery.  I've turned off 'push notifications' & location use on most apps.    Also I am not using it with a Sim card at this point.
I have the new iPad.
What else can be done?

Extend battery life
1. Lower brightness
2. Turn off WiFi when not using
3. Turn off 3G when not using
4. Turn off Bluetooth when not using
5. Minimize use of Location Service
6. Turn off push notification
7. Fetch new data less frequently
8. Turn off push mail
9. Auto-check fewer mail account

  • My iphone is currently using battery life much more quickly than inthe past, and it also has an icon tht is starying on the screen, to the left of the battery charge percentage, that looks like a lock with a circle around it

i have an iphone that is using battery life much more quickly than in the past, a full charge is going to zero in a half a day or so, with out much use.
an icon is also appearing next to the charge percentage in the top right, and the icon is a circle around a lock
can anyone tell me what the problem is, and what the icon means?

The Icon meas your display orientation is locked to vertical so it wont change when you turn the phone sideways.
First thing you should check with the battery life is multitasking, which also happens to be where the orientation lock can be turned off.  check out   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4211 and go from there

  • IPod nano 5th generation battery is losing charge

My iPod nano 5th generation battery is losing charge. I do not use this this ipod alot because I have older ipod iPod nano (3rd generation) which I like better. The problem is this ipod gos dead even if I don't use it. This ipod will not shut off and thats why it gos dead.
Is there any way to troubleshoot thlis ipod nano 5th generation to find out how and why it will not shut off, because this should not go dead if your not using it...

The iPod Nano 5th generation does not actually shut off. It "sleeps" by pressing the pause button until the screen goes black. To keep the battery from losing its charge, keep the iPod Nano connected to your computer, wall charger or a charging dock when not in use.
When the iPod is left unattended (not charging), the battery will still lose its charge. This is mentioned in the battery section of the iPod Nano 5th Gen. User Manual.

  • Can you tell me which iPhone/iPad mini charging adapter charges more quickly - traveling in Italy. Thanks.

Can you tell me which iPhone/iPad mini charging adapter charges more quickly?  Traveling in Italy.  Thanks.

You will need a 12 watt adaptor for the iPad Mini, so use the one that came with it. The phone can be charged from the same adaptor. Charging speed should be the same although everything in Italy runs slower.
You will need a wall outlet plug adaptor.

  • My ipad battery is losing charge fast, how do I combat this?

I've recently updates to iOS 7.1 and I don't have any multi tasking animation (but I know why that is and I don't care), but my iPad 2 has been losing charge fast and not charging well. I don't have the apple charge cable that came with it I have another one from eBay, (it only charges well when it's turned off)

    Hello Xboxanda,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Charging tips
iPad is designed to charge with the USB power adapter provided in the box. iPad will charge with any Apple USB Power Adapter and will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port. When attached to a computer through a standard USB port (most PCs or earlier Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode. Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad through USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

  • Battery does not charging more then 43%! PB shuts down, does not go to slee

    Hello
after 223 cycles (at the moment) my battery did something weird. I was surfing internet with 50% of charge and my PB turned off
i pluged in the adaptor and when PB turned on it said that time was reset to 1970 year bla bla bla (PMU reset) after what battery charging level increased up to 43% LED became grren and my battery indicator stopped at 43% and that is it
26 month PB 12" (as shown in System profiler)
i tried to use my pb on battery again and again near 5% it switched off (but should go to sleep mode) and my date and time settings reset to 1970. Again my battery wont charge more then 43%
    How could it be?
    Thank you in advance

i had a similar problem not once, not twice but THREE times. the only difference being that my battery would charge to "100%" only to just switch off at 80% then a few days later 70%, 60%, 50%, 40%, etc until a point where only a few minutes unplugged caused the computer to switch off and the date reset.
for me the issue caused a dead hard drive (i assume from being hard switched off so often)
after my computer chewed through a second battery the same way, theory was devised that the logic board was messing up the power management. one replaced logic board and in a short time another battery down.
at the moment i am waiting for it to be looked at under warranty for the fourth time and honestly feel like as much as i enjoy using osx, i can't really justify another apple purchase .
i hope the road to finding what is wrong with your computer is easier than what it has been with mine.

  • HT1430 My iPhone is two years old, but now seems to be loosing the charge more frequently, any ideas

My phone is loosing its charge more frequently I leave it on overnight, it's two years old.  Is there a life on the battery?

All batteries eventually fail. Make an appointment at any Apple store & the genius bar can confirm whether your battery needs replacing or not. If it needs replacing, the genius bar can handle such.

  • HT201401 Can anyone confirm that 12 hours of low to moderate use is acceptable battery life for an Iphone 5. That is all I am getting. I am using the phone less than I have used any Iphone I have ever had. The battery life between charges is less than hal

I am very disappointed with the battery life I am getting out of my Iphone 5S 64G. I charge it every night, and would be lucky to make 15 to 20 minutes of calls during the day and yet I am lucky to get much more than 12 hours of life out of the battery.
I have to make a conscious decision not to use it to avoid it running out on me. I had it back to the Apple Store last week and they ran diagnostic checks on ot and said that the hardware was within specs.
They replaced the software as it was showing that Springboard had crashed on several occasions. The other problem I was complaining about was that at least 2 or 3 times a day, the phone would refuse to wake up when I hit the home button. It would take sometimes up to a minute of pressing the button before anything would light up. The guy at the Apple store said that this was caused by Springboard crashing and that this would also be what is reducing the battery life.
I did notice that after they replaced the software, the waking up problem appeared fixed for a few days, but the battery life had not improved. Now the waking up problem is starting to return.
It is very annoying and somewhat embarrassing when you are with a client and go to make a call and your shiny flashy new Iphone 5 won't even light up. Especially when you have to borrow your clients Nokia....

My best bet would be to restore the phone. Back it up to itunes, and then reset it Factory settings. This way, any corrupt software will be removed, and you can start fresh. Make sure you back it up first. By the sounds of it, you are using the phone for business and probably need the data from it. Hope this helps!

  • My iPads consumes more data for, my wifi account than I would expect related to my usage. Hidden worms?

My problem is that the iPad seems to use a lot more data on wifi than you could expect. I read mail, read papers and use social media most Instagram and my 10gbt runs out after a few days. Most odd is that upload traffic is 5 times higher than download traffic. I have disconnected everything I know that could upload data such as Dropbox, box, iCloud etc. but the problem still is there.

    Morning Keekstrom,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you are on a data plan, you can adjust how your iOS device uses cellular data.

  • My songs take more space than they would normally do

    Hello
I have Exactly 677 songs on my iPad, and everything is ok. But recently, ive noticed that those songs take a little more than 5 GB! Ive read articles and they say that 700 songs take 2 GB, and i dont even have those 700. And they take up to 5 GB! Is there something wrong? How can i fix it?
    Thanks

The file size depends on the format, bit rate, number of channel and method of compression. You cannot measure it's size by the number of songs.

  • Will .mov export more quickly than AVCHD?

I am presently shooting on a Sony HDR-SR11 cam, which is AVCHD. But the JVC GY series is .mov format. With there be any benefit such as decreased export time at the end of the project (currently, a 25 minute project takes about 4-5 hours to export on a 2x3.2 Intel Xeon Mac).

if the sequence settings and export settings were the same, would there be a difference?
Then exporting would be a breeze - as long as the Sequence were fully rendered. All you'd need to do is go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie. Do NOT check "reompress All Frames." You can choose to make it self-contained or a reference movie.
What I'm wondering then is, after it's on my timeline, is there really going to be any difference between the two formats if the end product (for streaming) is going to be the same settings?
Well now ... streaming video is another matter. If you want to export for the web, that won't be quite the breeze as if you exported using the same codec as the Sequence. Once again, how long it would take really depends on the codec you choose for exporting.
But the JVC GY series is .mov format
Or, for example, if I make a self-contained Quicktime movie, will it export faster since the source footage is already .mov?
You keep referring to the .mov file type as if it were a codec. It isn't. The QuickTime MOVIE (.mov) designation is merely a container or wrapper; the video inside could be any number of codecs. And some codecs take longer to process than others.
Just saying that a file is a QuickTime Movie is kind of like saying you have a car. It doesn't really tell us much at all. If you're looking for specific answers, you'll need to be more specific in your questions.

  • How do I advance to the mid-point in a podcast more quickly than fast-forward?

There have been time when a slide has appeared that has that function, but the only slide I can find now is for volume.

    Hey Leslie,
If you're using the Apple Podcasts app, here is a picture off the application's page that shows what it might look like when playing an episode on your iPhone:
Towards the top, you'll see the slider to shuttle back and forth along the episode's runtime. If you don't see this screen, you can press the "Now Playing" button at the top right of your screen to return to it.
For other information about the Podcasts app, we have an article that gives a good overview of the application and its features here:

  • If a video is in high definition, does it take up more space than it would in standard definition

I have freed enough space to hold a standard definition version of the series that I want to buy, but I wanted to get the high defintion version, so I was wondering wether there is any difference.

Yes, there is. High-Def is much bigger.
If you had say something that was 1.5GB in Standard, it would be probably about 4GB in HD

The battery in my 2-month old MacBook Pro seems to be losing charge more quickly.  Also does not charge to 100% as it used to when new.
