I've created a document in Acrobat Pro 8 that does three very simple calculations. Two of those take one field entered by a user, "graduations" and does a simple bit of multiplication. It works fine when I set the fields up, but after saving and closing, both adobe reader and acrobat pro seem unaware that the calculations must be done. They still show up in the text field properties dialog box, but are no longer calculates, nor do they show up in Set Field Calculation Order, though they did upon creation.
Has anyone experienced this issue? Is there a fix?

So, the calculations are in the Calculate tab of the text field properties dialog, but they don't work, nor are they recognized by Acrobat?
Sounds like an internal error. What kind of calculation are they? One of the built-in "Sum" or "Product", Simplified Field Notation, or JavaScript?
The built-in and Simplified Field Notation both have problems with certain kinds of field names. This could be the issue. Field names should be short and not contain any special characters or spaces.

I am still having issues with the TOC. I finally got several chapters and sections to show different pictures in the TOC, but have spent hours trying to figure out how to repeat it. This should be so simple. Is there an update? Please help us Apple.

I am still having issues with the TOC pictures. I got several chapter/section photos to show up, but can't seem to repeat this success. It is some mystery that happened during a time that I had practically given up. This should be such a simple thing. Drag and place a picture into the placeholder and it shows up in the TOC....right? Help, help help! want to get this thing done and it's taken two days of work just get some of the photos to show up. I am going to have to publish this ibook with no photos in several sections.....why can't this be simple? I have even had someone else spend hours trying to figure this out. This software is such a GREAT idea....come on...help with this little part of it.

I had the same problem myself. I got to the point where I couldn't replace the photo, of a new chapter, in the TOC. What I did was to duplicate an existing chapter that was working and was able to replace it's TOC's photo. I also found that if you try different areas of the photo you can sometimes get it to replace correctly. For example, instead of dragging the new photo to the middle of an existing photo, try dragging it to the right top corner.

Making my animation stop looping (it should be really simple, right?)

I am trying to achieve a simple thing really; I have made an animation and want it to stop looping at the end.
A quick search of the internet reassured me that this is simply a matter of putting in a stop(); command in the script. Great!
Errr.. no.
Here is what I did:
I created a new layer for my script and called it 'Actions'
selected the final frame of the Actions layer and added a keyframe
selected said keyframe and opened windows->Actions
typed in stop(); and closed the window.
Ok, so that apparently is all there is to it. Only, when I test the animation it doesn't move at all. it seems that the stop command executes right at the beginning and is constant throughout the whole timeline.
Also, I noticed that the Actions layer has a small white circle/dot on frame 1 and on the final frame also. There is no small letter 'a' that should be there on the final frame, but I don't know why.
So, what am I doing wrong?
I realise that if I am struggling to do such a simple task it doesn't bode well for any further learning of actionscript. Which is a shame.

What you describe should have worked, but you might have mis-stepped as well. Try having the Actions window opened before you select the frame and type stop(); and leave it open afterwards as well for when you test. As soon as you enter some code in a frame it should display the lowercase "a", so your best bet is to keep trying it different ways until you see that. As I said, the way you describe it is legit, but what you might have done in following what you say might be off.

Why does my Macbook Pro get extremely hot doing simple things like surfing the web?

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro. 4GB of ram 500GB HD. The last few months my mac has been getting extremely hot when I do simple things like listening to music or going on facebook etc. I have used accessories to cool it down, but it doesnt seem to work. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Might be that the vents are clogged and need a clean up. Depends on the environment it was used in (dust, smoke, etc).
Might also be that some piece of software is the culprit and not iTunes or Safari/Chrome/Firefox.
Run Activity Monitor and see which application(s) use abnormally high amount of processing power.

Simple things to add to improve iphone

I have iphone 4, really a great tech! But there're some simple things I hope apple to add
- why there's no share contact by sms only there by mms or email. I hope 2 add it in future.
- we cant send group sms selecting multiple names from contacts to send them sms
- no editing of the whole contacts eg. Multiple select of contacts to delete them instead of selecting each one and getting into their edit 2 delete
- no arrows keys in keyboard. Sometimes it helps when try 2 go back & correct a letter instead of deleting the whole!
- no option in phone tunes to make phone ring once! I prefer it!

Because the contact is sent as a vCard attachment, and an attachment sent as a message requires MMS. Are you charged more for MMS than an SMS? If not, not sure what difference it makes. This also provides for an easy import into the iPhone's address book and with any address book application used on your computer.

You should be syncing contacts with a supported address book application on your computer or via an online address book such as Google or Yahoo where a mass deletion of contacts is easier and faster. Since doing so is not usually required on a regular basis and since contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application where doing so is much easier and faster, not sure when or if such an option will be provided with the iPhone, but you can use the iPhone feedback link for this as well.

I keep getting graphics errors codes when trying to run simple things

In a nutshell, I bought a laptop, installed the game "Spore", and played it FLAWLESSLY. A couple hours later the computer started acting up, and turns out the hard drive is bad (a scanned it through a usb device on another computer and it had many
bad sectors) So I buy a new Hard drive, install Windows 7 Ultimate on it, and updated the graphics drivers and installed the latest version of DirectX on it, but now when I try to play Spore, I keep getting the error "could not create the graphics device.
Direct X is not available. [1002]" and when I try to use windows movie maker I get the error message: "Windows movie maker cannot start. Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements before trying to start Movie Maker again, and then
try to update the drivers for your video card if Movie Maker still doesn't start."
I used the DxDiag tool and for some reason the apporox total memory (for my graphics card) read n/a.
my standard VGA Graphics Adapter (AMD ATOMBIOS) has up-to-date, Digitally signed drivers
my hardware acceleration is turned all the way up
I have the latest version of DirectX installed
I have an I7, 4GB of RAM, this laptop has incredible modern features.... why can't I get simple things to work when I exceed the system requirements by so far, AND I'VE USED THEM IN THE PAST ON THIS MACHINE???... the

Windows 7 includes DirectX 11 in its baseline and it is not necessary to install another version of it. Your problems may be caused by the installation of the version of DirectX you installed. Uninstall the one you installed and see if you
still have the errors.

Hey guys, I'm trying to find out how to do few simple things on a Mac
1. How do you align icons to some grid, whenever I drag and drop items in the Finder they are all out of sync... i like my icons in neat rows, what to do?
2. Is there some way to get the icons to also re-assemble by type/name/date created etc. ... i know u can do all that in the "list view" but is there a way to organize them as icons?
I know those tasks are very simple, but i've been trying and i can't find a solution... thanks!

yes, you can do both.
Switch to icon view. Then select "View Options" from the menu "View". There you can select both align to grid and always sort by ...
Since I use a german system the name of the option and the menu might be different. It is the menu to the left of the menu "Go To..." and within this menu the last option.

Entourage 2008 simple things I can't figure out

I've just got Entourage 2008, an upgrade from the 2004 version and I cant figure out a few simple things. The first being, when I've got an 'identity'open, the old 2004 version used to say at the top of the window which identity that was and the 2008 version just says 'Inbox - Folders on My Computer' on whichever indentity I'm looking at and I have to look closer at the actual emails to know which mail address I'm looking at.
Does that make sense?
Anyone know how to fix it??

Just my thoughts to add to the excellent answers above.
• BRAND of DVD used - Matters when doing Video-DVDs
Memorex, NoName etc cheap brands usually do NOT work
I only Use Verbatim (more organic dye in these)
• Type of DVD - matters
- DVD+/RW - usually results in problems
- DL-DVDs are more problematic than SL-DVDs
- DVD+R are a more modern sort - BUT PLAYS BADLY or not at all on older DVD-players
I only use DVD-R
• BURN SPEED - matters
- Best in iDVD app - IS NOT BEST at all but results in lot's of Burn Errors = Doesn't play well or at all
I set this down to x2 or x4 max.

JDeveloper doing simple things - how to

Just a couple of simple things that I can't seem to do in JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0
I have to use that version for OIM so please don't tell me to use 11.1.2.0.0 !!
How do I simply see my folders? There is no option in View for a simple folder view - I have Application Navigator and that's pretty much it. I just want to see if my project has recognized the folders I am supposed to have in my project, but there is no way to do that. I also tried messing with all of the "Navigator Display Options" and "Working Sets" options. Still nothing. I took a project someone sent me and dropped it into the application folder, and then opened the project. It found the single source file but none of the folders show up anywhere.
Second thing - if I create a folder external to the project and drop it into the project folder structure - why does "refresh" not pick it up?

JDev doesn't have a "file" navigator. We figure the OS usually provides a good one of those. :-)
Here are some tips:
1) Toggling some options in the Navigator Display Options will get you close (but it's still not a file navigator:
* Group by Directory (checked)
* Sort By Type (unchecked)
* Package Level (unlimited)
* Web Content Level (unlimited)
* Show Libraries (unchecked)
* Group by Categories (unchecked)
* Group Related Files (unchecked)
2) By selecting a node in the Application Navigator, you can choose Edit > Copy Path, which puts the os path to the node on your clipboard. You can now paste this into Windows Explorer (or similar for your os) to use the OS navigator. Optionally, you can use "Tools > External tools" to easily add a button or menu item to open a navigator node in the OS navigator.
3) The main thing to recognize is that the contents of the project as shown in the navigator is governed by the project source paths (in Project Properties). If you added a folder to a project folder and it's not showing up after a refresh, it's probably not under the project source path after all. Or, it's possible that you have added a working set which is hiding the contents.

What should be a simple 'button' script

Too old, too many hours working on this and too tight a deadline. This should be a simple script, but I'm getting nowhere fast!
User enters a dollar amount into a field called 'Pay', clicks one of four radio buttons called 'Frequency' labeled 'Weekly', 'By-weekly', 'Monthly' and 'Annual'. Based on button pressed, a field called 'Annual' is updated to reflect the results of:
Weekly = Pay * 52
Bi-weekly = Pay * 26
Monthly = Pay * 12
Annual = Pay * 1
Eventually, this form will be distributed throughout our entire organization, with completed forms being emailed to a central office. As a result, I'm working in LiveCycleES and Java, both of which I'm a novice with.
Any assistance from this forum is greatly appreciated. Even a link to a working example of this process that I could decipher on my own would be a great help.

You are making simple things Waaay to complicated..!

Having spent the last 35 mins watching the WDC woop-de-doo intro to Yosemite features, I thought SMS forwarding seemed like a good idea, as it was stated as a way of communicating with all these 'green bubbles' and people with 'not so good' hardware.
Now having set it up I am texting a mate on his iPhone from my iMac, who I normally and used to send to as iMessage 'in blue'. It's now completely lost the iMessage concept from the conversation and is texting as SMS only.
I don't have the time or inclination to try and understand what's wrong here, or why it shouldn't just be as simple as apple-apple is blue; apple to anything else is green. - Isn't that what the idea was?
Maybe I'm missing a point, but as a reasonably competent user - I think this just goes to show that you are just overcomplicating simple things. - I'm now going back to remove the feature....

SMS forwarding doesn't have anything to do with other people. It allows a Yosemite machine to send SMS messages via your iPhone (running iOS 8.1) to other people who aren't in the Apple ecosystem. If your friend is using an iPhone, just send a message to his Apple ID from any of your devices. Whether that actually works or not is still the same old "prime the pump" exercise it has always been. I expect both of you would have to restart devices and log in and out of iCloud a number of times before it started working. That is the great part about SMS forwarding, it allows you to bypass Apple's flaky infrastructure and use something more reliable.
