It used to be risky to delete from a library, is it still?

Years ago when I deleted photos from a library iphoto lost the location of other photos in the library. Is this still the case?

If you enter the iPhoto Library package via the Finder and delete photos that will damage the library.
To correctly delete photos from an iPhoto Library open it via the iPhoto application and delete them from the library via the iPhoto application interface

Deleting from iTunes Library and Computer

I have alot of music in my library that I would also like to remove from my computer. I know that when you select a song and press the delete key that i prompt pops up asking you if you want to delete the song from your computer as well as your library...for some reason i think i may have clicked the "don't show me this again tab" and now when i delete a song from my library it only gets deleted from the library. If I want to delete it from my computer I have to go and search for the file in the folder where it is stored...this is a royal pain in the butt because sometimes music files aren't labeled conveniently. So my question is : Is there some way that I can turn that prompt back on so that I can delete songs from my computer and iTunes library alot easier and faster? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Do you keep your songs in the iTunes Music folder or do you use another folder of your own making? iTunes will delete songs from the library and move them to Trash only if they are in the iTunes Music folder. (iTunes will ask if you want to trash the file if this is the case, it doesn't trash it automatically). If your songs are kept outside of this folder then deleting only removes the reference to the song from the library and you have to go to the folder they are located in to trash the file itself.

With iOS 6 on my 4th gen iTouch I am finding I no have to delete the playlist from my iTouch, not the when I sync. Now the paylist is being deleted from my library as well. What am I doing wrong?

With the new iOS 6 I have to use on my old iTouch (4th gen) instead of deleting a playlist thru the sync, I was instructed to delete it on the device. Now when I sync I am finding the playlist has been deleted from the library as well. I just want it off teh device, not erased. What am I doing wrong?

It depends upon what preferences settings you use. Most people use default settings so when you delete an item it asks you if you want to get rid of the file too.
If iTunes absolutely refuses to get rid of the file (I have never heard of this by the way) you can always go to the media folder or wherever the file is located and drag it to the trash yourself.

This happens to several of my podcasts whenever an updated iOS comes out. You can delete the episode directly from the phone by swiping it from left to right. That seems to fix the issue (they drop off the phone and dont reappear on iTunes). It's as if iTunes stops tracking the play count for some shows.

Have you not got a backup of your content ? iTunes will only copy back purchases that you made from Apple. For music from other sources you will need to find a program from another source which can copy them back from the phone - if you do a search on google you might find some. Or depending from where you got them from can you re-download them from those sites ?

If they are showing in the Videos app with a cloud then go into Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone and set Videos (under the 'Show All') heading 'off' - you might (depending upon which country that you arein) have a similar button for music and the Music app.

Go to the iTunes Store and click on "Purchased" then on the next screen click "Not in my library". You should be able to select it from there.

How to use IMAP on iPhone yet delete from server also

I'm searching to no avail. Can I do this (by some combination of IMAP/POP and settings)?
- Leave messages on the server except when accessed by my MacBook Pro (currently POP).
- View messages from my iPhone without having to delete each and every one (IMAP works for this).
- Delete messages from my iPhone and have it delete from the server (POP works for this).
So I can't see how to do all three. Any ideas?
