It Went To Sleep And Never Woke Up

For Christmas, my parents bought me a 4GB Silver iPod Nano. I've used it quite a bit since then, I believe right now it's holding 85 songs. Anyways, last night before sleeping, I was listening to it. I was done with it, I set it to sleep, put it into the charger, and went to sleep.
I wake up this morning, the power has blinked on and off a few times. I pick up my iPod, try to turn in on and...nothing happens. My first thought is that the battery is dead, so I re connect it and wait for my computer to detect it...it doesn't. I open up iTunes to see if it shows my iPod (named Donnie's iPod) as a device, it doesn't.
So basically right now I have a rectangular silver device that is supposed to play music that is just sitting here taking up space. Now, if it is important, my computer specs:
Dell Dimension 4600
Intel Pentium 4 Processor
Roughly 4 Years Hold
Relatively New Hard Drive, Replaced in July of 2006
Windows XP Home Edition
The only ports I have availible for use are two which are in the front and I have tried them both, neither appear to do anything.
So is there anything I can do besides replacing it?

Try these.
My iPod won't turn on.
iPod battery doesn't charge.
My iPod won't wake up.
iPod touch-wheel is unresponsive after waking from sleep.
When restoring the iPod, it's recommended to put it into disk mode first.

If none of the above help, it may need service, or you could go to an Apple store and have them check it out.

twin g4 867 MDD went to sleep at its scheduled time (2AM) The next day it would not wake from sleep as far as i could tell. Unplugged it, plugged it back in and i get startup tones but no video feed. HD's and fans are spinning. anyone have any ideas? Monitor burnout? graphics card? (i have a a nvidia gforce ti) im running tiger with all the updates, and an apple 20in cinema display. THANKS!!!

    Hi,
If everything is spinning, it sounds like the graphic card is not working correctly. That particular video card has been known to do that. If you are familiar with your MDD, try taking the card out and re-seating it, then restart. Unplug the computer first.
Go here to see instructions in removing the video card in a MDD Mac:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=26259
If that doesn't work, you'll have to locate a new/used video card that supports your ADC connector on your monitor and try that. Finding a loaner from a friend would be ideal.
    Tell us what happens,
    Regards,
    Dave

  • T60 went to bed and never woke up

Firstly, I apologize for posting this. I'm sure it's been answered, but I couldn't find exact symptoms searching here.
Machine in question, T60 type 2637-D06
Shut it down last night, as normal. Left plugged in as I usually do.
Woke this morning, the charge and battery lights both on, as usual.
But nothing happens when I push the switch. No other lights, no beeps, nothing. As if the switch is bad (which I understand is a possibility)
If I pull the battery, I still get the A/C light. Same results though. No beeps, no other lights.
If I pull the A/C and install the battery (which has always been fine for 2-3 hours, so I'm ruling out the A/C power supply), no lights at all. And similarly unresponsive.
Tried the button pressing 'trick' thing. No joy.
So of course, apart it came. Pulled system battery and let sit for an hour or so. Back in, no difference.
Pulled memory and tried it. No difference (still no beeps)
My only thoughts as to what could be bad now are:
Bad power switch (is there a way to 'break' it to test it?)
Screen open sensor (could this cause such symptoms, and is there a way to access it and test it?)
bad mother board (in which case, I'll just get another used computer and swap hard drives)
Any thoughts greatly appreciated. I have an old Gateway that behaves similarly, so if I could get this working, maybe I could get it working too (long shot).
And, if I do end up just buying another T60, it could be helpful if I have a clue of what bits might still be usable in my broken one as parts for a new one when it breaks down the road...
    Thanks
    Matt

    Welcome to the forum!
If you can borrow another keyboard to test the machine with (any Lenovo-era ThinkPad keyboard should do) that would be a good start.
If a dead board is the culprit, all other parts *should* be fine...that's a pretty sweet machine, FlexView LCD and all...throw in another board (any non-wide T60/p board will work and they're quite inexpensive nowadays) and call it a day...
    Good luck.
    Cheers,
    George

  • Hi, I turned my macbook pro off before I went to sleep, and this morning when I awaken. I can't seem to use the volume at all! I went to system preferences sound output BUT everything is light grey and it some-how looks like I don't have permission.

Hi, I turned my MacBook Pro off before I went to sleep, and this morning when I awaken. I can't seem to turn up or down my volume. It comes up with all the volume bars and a little circle sign with a diagonal line in the middle, like a stop sign. I have gone to system preferences > Volume > Output BUT all my volume preferences have gone all light grey and wont let me access them.
    Anyone help?

My IMAC screen went to sleep and I have it set to enter a password upon waking it up. However, my bluetooth keyboard died while it was asleep and I replaced the batteries and tried to enter my password and it is not picking up my keyboard. What can I do? I will not let me enter my password to get in and trouble shoot the keyboard. Please Help!!

I pushed in the button on the top right corner. It turns a green light on and then it goes off. I held it in until it started blinking. It blinks for a bit and then the green light turns off. I am still not able to type my password. What should I do now?

Are you able to bootup on your install disk?
Try using Disk Utility to repair your startup disk (hard drive) as shown in Dr.Smokes Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption.
    If it's a no wake from sleep issue, read on;
If your Mac happily goes to sleep but won't wake up--Hold down the power switch to force-reboot your machine and get it running again.
Don't worry-your Mac isn't narcoleptic. Its Open Firmware system or NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM) is likely corrupt, and your Mac can't remember how to wake up.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Command-Option-O-F key combo until you see a somewhat intimidating command-line display that ends with the Open Fimware prompt. Type the following lines:
    reset-nvram
    press Return on keyboard
    set-defaults
    press Return
    reset-all
    press Return
Your Mac will reboot. Once it's running, put it back to sleep to test. If the problem recurs your Energy Saver preferences may be the culprit. Delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file (go to Finder/Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration)--don't worry, your Mac will regenerate a new one--and then restart to see if that rights the wrong.
Still did'nt work? Might be time to call AppleCare or see an Apple Genius or a technician.
    Cheers!

  • My New iPad (16gb   4g) went to sleep, and won't wake up! What should I do?

What should I do? Pls Help!

Assuming that the battery isn't empty (and it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond), then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Last night I went to sleep, and when I woke up, my iPhone was just turned off and it doesn't want to get any power.

My iPhone doesn't want to get any power; it was perfectly normal, and last night it just turned off by it self with 43% of battery.

Plug iPhone in with Wall Charger for 10 minutes, iPhone may turn ON itself. If not on, then keep on Wall Charger and Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart, may take around 20 seconds of holding both buttons.

  • My MacPro goes to sleep and never wakes up

Pretty much every time I leave my computer alone for the night, I have to do a hard reset in order to get back in... it never wakes back up when I press keys or click the mouse.  While I'm using it, it runs amazingly well.
This is a 2006 Mac Pro, in which I have stuffed a lot of solid componentry.  Recently I made two changes:
    1.  I plugged a third monitor into one of my two video cards.
    2.  I threw in 16gb of RAM that I grabbed from Ebay.
TechTools pro runs tests and tells me that everything is fine... obviously it's wrong.
I bought the computer off of craigslist, and it boots to a black screen with a bunch of white text... I don't know why.  I can't boot into Apple Hardware Test... I really can't boot into any of the recovery modes actually.  I'm stuck going directly into the operating system after the black screen does it's thing.
I would try to reset the PRAM and such, but holding things down during startup just doesn't work for me.
Here's the error report... it also includes a lot of the information about the hardware in the computer (thanks in advance for all of your help):

Just junk the X1900 for now. At least take it out, take it outside and give it the full treatment.

Try with half the RAM at a time.
Monitor the temps - Temperature Monitor - especially those FBDIMMs to be running below 70*C.
    Amazon has those for $25 (2 x 2GB for Mac Pro 1,1 667)
Your 5770 will support three displays.
Use SMCFanControl 2.4+ and set the default fan speed to 900 rpm, and set a couple more profiles for higher rpm just to see if that helps air flow and cooling and if your temps are normal.
I would also look at running w/o external devices. Like your RAID5. Until your system is stable.

  • She goes to sleep and never wakes up - among other things

I just installed SL and I seem to be having a myriad of problems:
    1) when she goes into sleep mode, i can't wake her up unless I restart the machine. All I get is the spinning beach ball.
    2) she is definitively NOT faster
    3) I don't see anything new or different anywhere on my system. I was really excited about the new podcast feature but I can't find it anywhere on my system
    4) I ran disk utility to do repair permissions, and that didn't fix anything. In fact, a few repairs couldn't be made.
I'm thinking that i should just just uninstall it - but i have no idea how to do that. Should I try to fix it or just I just do the uninstall and wait until the software updates come out?
    Thanks for any input!

What new features are you mentioning, specifically?
The bulk of advancements w/SL are under the hood it would seem.

  • My Mac Power G4 Went to sleep and I Can't Wake it Up!

Must have felt I didn't love it anymore.
I bought it so long ago, I can't remember when — only that in the interim I've also acquired a Mac Notebook, an IMac that eventually "wore out" and a duo processor iMac to replace it.
Still, I've also kept my G4 running and networked to whichever iMac I was using at the time — mainly to maintain a way to view and revise older docs running on OS 9.6(?). But as time rolled on, I used it less and less, until this morning, when I realized an old tax document I needed probably was on that computer and realized it hasn't be working . . . probably for weeks or months.
To my dismay, it won't start up (from either the power button on the keyboard – or the computer itself. Have already tried unplugging and replugging it from the wall, but it still won't turn on.
Before I run out to buy a new power cord, just anted to check to see if there might be a different problem (e.g., dead power pack?).
It's been a great workhouse, so I'd hate to lose the machine, but if diagnostics and repairs are as high as I'm guessing, I know it makes more sense to just replace it with a newer model.
If so, although I've also just rotated new models in as my primary computer and kept the former "top model" as a back-up, I'm wondering if I might not be better off just buying one of those stripped-down models for sure as a back-up. Then again, my current iMac must be 4-5 years old.

I promised to let you know if your suggestion worked. Sorry it's taken so long, but today was the first time I had a chance to try it out . . . and then, only because I need a document I believe is on that computer.
The sad news is that after I removed the battery (and let it sit close to 20 minutes before replacing it) my Mac still did not turn on.
Next I started the search for a new battery. Was concerned about buying one online, because they looked pretty pricey and I wasn't sure I might not have a more serious problem. Called the Apple Store, which was a real eye opener. The guy who answered my call on the national line didn't have a clue, so referred me to the local store. The girl that answered there informed me that the store doesn't carry batteries for such old models (good thing she couldn't see who she was talking to) — butshe was right, it is old (according to the serial #, I bought it back in 1999), but so far it's outlived the CPU that replaced it and until recently was keeping up with the first replacement). She recommended a Mac Genius appointment for diagnostics. No charge unless I decided to have them work on it, at which point it would cost $129.00 . . . but she didn't know if they had the battery either, and if they did (or could order one), she was not allowed to discuss merchandise costs on the phone.
The kid I spoke with by phone at Radio Shack didn't have a battery either, but thought they ran around $40. . . The service manager at Fry's thought that was a gross exaggeration, but could only find 3.0 v batteries when he looked (for only $4.99).
As a latch-ditch effort I called our local electronics store. They had the battery, but would be closing in about 23 minutes. I arrived just as they were closing their door . . . raced home thinking of all the $$$ I had saved and promptly insertd the new battery.
Result: Nothing. It's still dead as a doornail.
I hate to even imagine what else it could be. Is it time to junk it, or is there any hope left . . . and if so, at what cost? Changing a battery is within my comfort zone. Anything more and it probably will have to go in for service. Is it worth it?

  • MacBook Pro keyboard is totally unresponsive (except power button). Low battery was triggered last night, and work was conducted after power was connected. I closed the lid and went to sleep, and this morning I cannot log into my laptop.

The keyboard that is in the Mac is not functioning with the exception of the power button.
Since I am traveling, without a rental car, purchase of an external USB keyboard to troubleshoot and/or resolve the problem is not practical.
How do i wake up the keyboard?
