    Hello,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.
Your computer comes with Win 8 pre-installed but one of the steps to install/run Windows 8.1 is having updated drivers for Windows 8.1
Please, go to Control Panel -> System (or Start -> type winver and open) and verify what is your current version - if it is Windows 8 or 8.1
    Windows 8 is version  6.2.x
    Windows 8.1 is version  6.3.x
If Windows 8 in place, then , please read this article and enroll in the steps:
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/pdf/instruct_update_win8.1_EN_tcm_245_1508074.pdf
Update to the latest drivers prior and post installation respectively for win 8/8.1 :

  • How to scan photos in jpg in windows 8 instead of pdf

I had Windows Vista with photo gallery. Now i have Windows 8 with no photo gallery, but photos in a different format(they say photo gallery is not compatible with windows 8). I used to scan pictures and documents and they were saved in jpg. Now they are saved in pdf and cannot be saved to jpg. Also have cannon printer MG2220. I started to download something, then decided to delete it when it said it wanted to change the hard drive somehow...
Any ideas how to convert the pdfs to jpgs or to reset the thing somehow? Stuff I have read on here is for Windows 7 or XP with photo gallery (which I don't have..or at least I don't think that is the name of it..). donna

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.
I am sorry about your issue you describe.
Most probably something got in the wrong direction with the installation of DirectX. Don't be afraid, there are several options to help.
If your computer came with Windows pre-installed by HP (OEM Windows)
    I suggest you read >this article< and :
    - understand more about Microsoft Windows System Restore
    - perform Windows System Restore "Restore your computer when Windows 8 starts normally"
choose a restore point some days before this issue happened
If this helped, this would be the best possible option. If not, please continue with >this article<  or  >this video<and use HP System Recovery to back up your data and restore Windows to factory default condition.
If your computer did not come with Windows pre-installed but you install Windows on its own,
then try Windows System Restore similar to the instructions posted >above<
If it doesn't help, back up your data as per these instructions and re-install Windows.
Please, report back your results. Do not hesitate to post again if something in my instructions is not clear.
You may also want to print some of the instructions/articles so that you have them handy in offline mode

  • Ink Cartage Error Out of the Box

I kept getting this error when setting up my printer. Then I realized the it was manufactured incorrectly. The color ink goes on the left and the black ink goes on the right. My printer came with the black holder on the left and the pink holder on the right. I can provide picture if need be. This can very confusing and frustrating when setting up. I ruined the ink cartages that came with the printer trying to figure this out. I had to go buy new ones because of this manufacturer error. I'm out $35 because of this.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.
In addition to what @visruth  has written, you can also try to download Speccy - http://www.piriform.com/speccy
This is free software for system information and it can show/measure the temperature of some of the computer components.
In my opinion your problem looks like overheating issue. When the computer's fan is not working, it overheats (especially if the CPU/HDD are overloaded with some tasks) and stops working (powers down unexpectedly with no messages) to prevent damage. If this is the case, it would be good to monitor the temperature.
If this is the case, authorized HP Support Center should be able to help you fix this. If you are not sure where such is located, you can contact the nearest HP contact -> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

  • HP 250 G2 unable to use recovery discs

So I purchased this laptop last year at Microcenter and since day 1 I noticed that the amber/white light that turns on when you connect the charger, it never turns white even after living the laptop charging the entire night, so far it doesnt bother me, but I I jus got a bigger hardrive and tried to install win 7 from the recovery discs that I had burned previously and it keeps telling me that the media is not usable in this unit. I even installed the originall hard drive in a enclosure and tried to boot windows so it would recover it from the usb but so far I havent been succesful with anything. I cant find the email address for HP so I can request the factory recovery discs. the laptop came pre intalled with win7 and a cd with windows 8.1 so you can upgrade it anytime but I need win 7 (main reasonwhy I purchased this laptop) any body has had any problems reinstalling windows 7? I would hate for my hard drive to crash and then find out that the recovery discs are useless

    Hello,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.
There is no email to contact HP support. However, there are options for phone support, chat support or ticket support.
    Here is some info:
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html
    or
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html
If you would like to purchase recovery disck for your machine, you can contact the respective support team.
If your original HDD drive is working fine, you can insert it into the computer.
You can try with Microsoft Windows built-in recovery process (system image) and creating a system recovery disk (then boot from it with the new HDD and apply the image on this HDD)

    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/4241/how-to-create-a-system-image-in-windows-7/
    http://www.howtogeek.com/167984/how-to-create-and-restore-system-image-backups-on-windows-8.1/
Or you can try with CloneZilla:
    http://www.geekyprojects.com/cloning/how-to-use-clonezilla-tutorial/
    http://clonezilla.org/

  • Unable to download Google Chrome on Windows 8.1 / new HP laptop

Hi, I just purchased this new HP laptop TODAY -- and have been trying to download Google Chrome and set Google as my homepage because I have been working with Google products for the last 5 years and it is my preference.
However, in the first instance, I get a message saying I can't download Google Chrome, even though I've verified the download is for Windows 8.1, then it also triggered a virus infection and caused the security software to do a threat scan -- three times!!  In trying to simply set Google as my homepage, when I click on the actual 'set up' button, the screen simply freezes.
It's almost as if Yahoo / HP is not allowing me to choose my Browser and search engine....does anyone know how to fix this??   I've never had this happen before.
    Thanks!!!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hello,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.
In this particular case, neither HP nor Yahoo prevent the computer from getting Chrome browser. Especially when you mentioned that the security software triggered an alarm, this means that most probably you tried to download a fake copy of the Chrome browser and thanks God the security software prevented it from installing. It is quite common nowadays because this is popular software and fake copies do exist. Sometimes they appear on top of search result in search engines and they do not lead to the official vendor's site but some other server.  Additionally, if this is not the case, your computer might also have already been infected by some pest which redirected your traffic to fake Chrome.
There is only one official place to download this product - Google official site/sub-site
Click here  =>  https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html   and  choose Download Chrome blue button in the middle of the page
    Follow the on screen instructions.
Some additional instructions from Google ->  https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95346?hl=en
Here are some other instructions how to set up home page in Internet Explorer
    http://blog.laptopmag.com/set-blank-browser-home-page
For Google, instead of blank page, you need to enter www.google.com  as the page address
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/change-home-page#ie=ie-11
    Hope this helps

  • "Windows cannot find...Make sure you typed the name correctly" issue across many files

I recently have run into an issue where many programs cannot be opened. I get an error message saying "Windows cannot find... Make sure you typed the name correctly the try again."  This happens for task editor, or manage in the control panel.  I cannot change settings in the system security as I get the same message.
I ran a full scan of McAfee and nothing was picked up.

    Hello,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.
These symptoms you describe appear because Windows cannot find certain application when it is lauched using some kind of shortcut. Since it appears with many applications (including Task Manager), this is usually considered to be caused by malicious programs (malware) such as viruses, trojans, etc.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311446
*Note - the above Microsoft KB article is just one example for the many many viruses that exist out there. Of course, you may
Please, double check your system with other security products aside from your McAfee.
Try to check your computer using  the free ESET Online Scananer:
    http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2921&locale=en_US
Scan with the free HitmanPro :
    http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/
    Please, report back your results.
If it happens so that you cannot run ESET or HitmanPro,  best would be to use an alternative computer (known clean one), prepare a bootable CD/DVD using a "live" antivirus image such as Kaspersky Rescue Disk or ESET SysRescue Live, and scan your system using this CD/DVD. • Keep receiving a pop up from McAfee that states "Potentially Unwanted Program Blocked"

I'm very new to owning and operating my own home computer.   Internet just recently installed.   While trying to find a safe "Minecraft" game for my grandson to pay, I now receive the message from McAfee that states "Portentially Unwanted Program Blocked".     What to do    What to do

    Hello,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.
Most probably when you wanted to download the game, it was bundled with malicious/unwanted software, thus stopped by McAfee.
Here you can find some information about the types of the viruses/malware/Internet attacks:
    http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN186&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=141592...
If you continue getting messages from McAfee that virus or unwanted program is present or deleted, double check with different utilities because McAfee may be picking-up only part of the story (aka undetected malware)

    {Content Removed}

    Hello!
Thank you for posting in HP support forums and thank you for your trust in HP.
I am sorry about the issue you experience.
I suspect your computer's hardware might be faulty.
I think you mean BSOD - blue screen of death or something like >this<
This is safety mechanism. By default when Windows encounters BSOD, it copies the memory to the so called memory dump files. They can be useful to analyze the issue.
Please, go to Control Panel -> System -> System Protection -> "Advanced" tab
Follow >these instructions< and configure the system to generate Kernel dump files.
    Once ready, repeat the BSOD.
When you next start Windows, a file with this location
    %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP
should have been generated. Usually this is C:\Windows\memory.dmp
When you are ready, please let me know and I will provide you a way to submit this file to me so that I analyze it and see what I can see from it, what the issue is.
Please, also test your HDD and RAM from BIOS:

  • I need to change photos in exe to jpeg

i have photos in exe format, i need to change them to jpeg. any sugestions?

    Hello,
Thank you for posting in HP support forum!
I am not sure what you mean that you have photos in exe format but if the photos are OK and if you manually changed them into exe (which is not common and suspicious) , you can change the file extensions following these instructions:
    http://www.mediacollege.com/microsoft/windows/extension-change.html
If your photos automatically turned into exe, this may be sign of malicious activirus (virus-malware infection) and this may need further investigation and actions to cure the computer from bad mal files.
Please, let me know if this helps and if you need further help !
