Okay so . . . just bought a new Mac OS X because my last MacBook Pro burned up. I was luckily able to put everything on an external hard drive. But when I try to play my movies from the hard drive or any other DVD that were downloads that are AVI it says "QuickTime Player can't open "Genetic Roulette_(360p).avi" because a required codec isn't available." So I went ahead and followed the instructions and download the DivX but it still will not play. Can anyone out there help me?
Download and install VLC. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html and get rid of DivX.

i want to update my phone, but i purchased many apps and music on the phone. it won't let me authorize my computer so i cannot update. i don't want to deauthorize all my computers. how can i find out which 5 computers i have authorized? also how can i update the software?
This is a tedious solution, which is stupid! And some users report an inability to reauthorize a computer after an "en masse” deauthorization. I can’t believe Apple doesn’t provide a list or menu to find out which computers you’ve authorized! Obviously, APPLE knows (or else they couldn’t tell us how many computers we have authorized)--so why can’t they give us access to that information about our own computers??!!!
And for an already-authorized computer with a hard drive that’s since been replaced and upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, would it be recognized as a “new computer” and require authorization? Would its previous incarnation (i.e., with the old hard drive and OS) be considered a separate computer? Some users report they can’t authorize a computer after an OS upgrade because of that. Can’t believe we have to do such a bass-ackwards kludge! -
HT1420 itunes won't let me authorize my computer. There is no option for this in the store menu.

Open Computer from the Start menu.
From the Organize menu, choose Folder and Search Options.
Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders," make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
Click OK.
Navigate to the following location by either typing it into the address bar, copying and pasting it into the address bar, or clicking through the folder hierarchy listed:C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes
Right-click the SC Info folder shown and on the shortcut menu, choose Delete.
Restart the computer.

Istore won't let me authorize my computer
While I was living in Germany I bought a lot of music from the German MusicStore. Now I am back in the USA but I had to reload my OS and now I can't play any of the music I purchased in Germany. When I try and authorize my computer it says its not authorized. When I put in my account and password it takes me to my account in the German Music Store but it won't authorize my music.

ITunes won't let me start my computer.
I can download iTunes fine, and it runs perfectly so I turn off my PC. When I go to turn it back on it won't start. So I run a diagnosis to figure out what program is keeping it from running. After several minutes it tells me that it has erased whatever was keeping it from running. When I restart my computer iTunes is gone and I can't use any of my music. I need iTunes for my Apple products but I can't keep it on my PC because it won't let me run my computer. I don't know what to do.
it sounds like it is a problem with a particular app or song which has been purchased/transferred.

When all else fails (it sounds like it has) hold the power button for about 10 seconds. This shuts down the computer. Then tap it to restart. Since it sounds like the OS upgrade began but then failed to perform a restart you may find that the Install Mavericks file is still in the Applications folder and you can try again. Or you might find that you have to redownload. I don't think the installation is going to proceed as if the computer had successfully restarted but I could be wrong (and in this case gladly so for your sake.)

I have a new mac and want to sync my phone to the iTunes on it, but it won't let me manually manage without deleting all music on the phone already from another iTunes. is there a way around this?

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
An alternative which is really not what you should have to do, or the way it is intended to be done, if you properly manage your computer and backups:

Do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up. -
I just updated my iPad to the new ios and now it won't let me use iCloud. I have been in my settings and it says I need to agree to the new t&c's but when I click to do it my device freezes. Any Idea what I can do as I can't download new app either
Sorry. There's nothing anyone can do. The current version of the facebook app will not run on 4.2.1. The iPhone 3G won't run anything higher than 4.2.1. You're stuck.
Maybe it's time to buy yourself a new iPod Touch. -

How much free space is on your hard drive?
Do you have Internet Explorer 10 or 11?

I imagine a ton of people are attempting to download it right now. Simple patience, maybe keep trying, and if possible, try a little later. Think of it as all those people lining up at Apple Stores + about a million more.
