It won't let me install because I'm not the administrator.

See, I bought this computer used (imac g3 os 9.0.1), and I changed the settings to that there would be different accounts and stuff, so that the children wouldn't be able to get into my computer and read my stuff. So, since I made a new account for myself that's different from the admin, there are limitations...how do I install os x? It won't let me because I'm not the admin...

Check this page Firmware Update, and see if you can identify which of the iMac models you have.
The correct Firmware Update, can then be downloaded from there.
If one is required, you must start the computer from a Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9 System Folder on the computer's hard disk, not from a CD, in order to install it.
But before that can be installed, you will still probably need an Admin password.
So I think you will need the OS 9 system discs first.
Discs are available from AppleRescue.

I've been trying to download the latest version of itunes for a couple days now. Everytime I did it, i twould go almost entirely through the download process and right at the end it would say it couldn't finish because i don't have administrator rights.
Last night I decided to see if I could figure out why it was saying that, if some how my settings were changed.
Everything I found, it looked like I was administrator.... this is my first issue
Also, when trying to figure out the admin thing. I ended up deleting my itunes. I tried to restore my computer and bring it back, but only parts of it came back. So I dont know if I need to completely uninstall itunes to be able to reinstall?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

HT2311 it won't let me install because I don't have 10.6.8 updated version? I have checked for updates and nothing comes up. I can't access Itunes to download Iphone photos etc....

Itunes doesn't recognize my Iphone 4 or Iphone 5. I get a pop up that says it requires me to install Itunes updated version of 10.7 to access my phones.
When I go to install version 10.7 it says I can't because my system needs to be updated to version 10.6.8?
Need some advise on my next step.

If you're on a Leopard operating system (10.5.8), you're not going to be able to sync to the iPhone 5. (The iPhone 5 needs iTunes 10.7.0.21, and that's only available for Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion.)
You should still be able to sync to the iPhone 4S if you've got iTunes version 10.6.3.25 installed. (Your Leopard operating system supports that.)

Windows 8.1 won't let me install Reader when logged in as administrator

Are there any fixes to this problem?

1. Do you have Adobe Reader already? (In START menu?)
- It does not appear to be in the tiles anymore.- When I checked a file folder with pdf documents there is a different adobe symbol - sort of looks like a red hand with three fingers.- When I click on this some sort of adobe reader starts and I can read the document, but there is no menu or other info. When I right-click a limited menu pops up on the bottom of the screen "one page", "two pages", "continuous", "print"
2. If so, what version is it (Use Help > About)?
- there is no "help or about" available on the above screen when it is open with a document in it
3. What is the wording of the update message?
- Starting with the installation there are a series of messages in the installation window ...- "extracting files ..."- "Make Adobe Reader my default PDF viewer"- "Install Adobe Reader ... to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0"- Choose "Install updates automatically (recommended)" - "Copying new files ..."- A warning box pops up - "Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileged to access this directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contractor your systems administrator."- The only option that works is cancel. This reverses the installation "rolls back the installation"- The recently created folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0" is removed.
4. Where did you download the install file?
- http://get.adobe.com/reader/- saved to the "Downloads" folder- the file is "AdbeRdr11009_en_US.exe"
5. I checked the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 10.0"
- When I click on the folder it does not let me open the Reader 10.0 folder - It says, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 10.0 is not accessible. Access Denied"
6. I checked the Task Manager to see if there was a program that might be checking for Adobe Reader updates - nothing obvious
7. I checked the Control Panel, Programs and Features - there is no Adobe Reader. There is an Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 which I installed to read some epub documents. Also, did not see any suspicious looking program.

I am interested in dual booting to Linux. However I need to export my bookmarks. I've always been able to export my bookmarks to an html but now you say I Can't because I'm not the administrator?! I am the only user and run as administrator. This doesn't make sense.

Mommy won't let me install QTJava

I've given up on JMF because of its lack of support for media formats that people actually use, so I'm following the advice of others on this forum and will attempt to try QuickTime for Java as an alternative.
The problem is that the QuickTime installer won't let me install QTJava because it complains (incorrectly) that I don't have a supported VM.
Any idea where I can get a QuickTime for Java installation without mommy looking over my shoulder and commenting on my VM, or how to get around this problem in general?
I apologize for positing here, but I couldn't find a counterpart forum on Apple's site.

Since you have a choice of JVM's, I'm assuming you're on Windoze? I think QTJ only runs on the Sun JVM -- not Microsoft (duh) and not IBM's (darn). Also, I'm pretty sure it's not ready for 1.4 yet.

Pacifist is an application for Mac OS X that opens up .pkg installer packages, .dmg disk images, .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .pax, and .xar archives, and more, and lets you install individual files out of them. Check for new 64 bit software for the modem, other wise you I'll probably have to boot your Mac in 32 bit mode first.. And then every time you want to go online.
I have the Sierra wireless 306 and have their 64 bit lion software installed. Works well.
