IT7.1 Coverflow Fullscreen fails on iMac G3 500

Hi,
My cousin has a strange problem with iTunes 7.1, it does Coverflow within the iTunes window very well, but in fullscreen it's strange: Coverflow seems to work, but instead of covers it shows black squares with withe stripes. I have an iBook G3 700 that does both modes well, but that iMac unfortunately not. Any suggestions please? The iMac is an iMac G3 500 MHz, 8 MB Rage Mobility

Perhaps someone else will be able to confirm, but my guess is that the processor and graphic chip in the iMac just aren't powerful enough to display the covers in full screen without errors. If that is indeed the case, there won't be anything your cousin can do. We'll see if someone else has a suggestion, though.

Power pack failed on iMac OSX Lion and replaced by Apple at a cost. Computer top left and behind is very hot. Is this normal.

Take it back to the shop that did the repair and show them. Check other iMac's on the floor to see if they have this same heat problem.

Used Hard drive as start-up disk. Kept getting a file labeled (approx.) EFileS1...(didn't write it down). Tried once to totally erase

log onwhen I enter name and PW, I get the screen saver; I don't get the dock or anything else. I tried to use a external hard drive, and I also tried using an external CD/DVD player (integrated one no longer works) to reload SnowLeopard (OS 10.6) with no response (I had upgraded to OS 10.6.8).

If you can get the 2008 started move large libraries such as  your iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes libraries to an External HD. Once you have verified the libraries have been successfully moved then Trash the ones on the internal HD and empty the Trash. Once these operations have been done then use:
iPhoto: How to move the Library to an EHD
iMovie: How to move the Library to an EHD
iTunes: How to move the library to an EHD

My iMac 21" 500 GB stalls at 1st gray screen.  Finally booted up after about 10 minutes. Anybody experienced this?  thanks

When it "stalled at the 1st gray screen" did you see a progress bar(in addition to the normal spinning gear)? If so, you were starting up in Safe Mode.
This can happen automatically if problems with the file system are found. If you were able to get started up, that would generally indicate that it(fsck) was able to repair the problems.
Have you been able to restart since this happened?

  • Failing/ed imac crt antenna or failed airport card?

    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Model: iMac
    CPU Type: PowerPC 750 (33.11)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 700 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.1.9f1
    Serial Number: YM1360GRLFD
running on dsl via airport. airport signal started to fail intermittently after a few minutes. this started after son got a power book after his crt with airport failed on an oldert crt model.
called mac asssistance and for a fee they could not help me other than the old move/turn off the portable phones. the thing always worked before with the portable phones nearby so they suggested "external" interference. I asked about airport extreme and they said yeah, try that, more robust at zeroing in on frequency. bought airport extreme after first consulting genius at genius bar in clarendon who assured me it is the built in antenna not the airport card. he had no airport card on hand to test my computer (does not do obsolete thank you). he was flip and certain and suggested i just junk the thing since the repair is very expensive or try an external antenna from quickertech which apparently does not exist (antenna not company). i can get signal using ethernet connection and can get the airport to work sometimes when the computer is cold. as the session contnues, the signal fades and stops. i am exasperated that mac has dropped support for this product so soon after it made them millions. anybody had the same problem and found a solution? otherwise my next step is the repair facility. this is a sweet machine not going to a dumpster in the name of conspicuous consumption.

This is a duplicate post. I replied to your other post last week and you didn't respond to that reply. Basically i said there that I have never heard of the antenna failing in an apple computer. A solution however may be an external ethernet wireless bridge since they have an external antenna. Perhaps others have more to add though.
Did you actually try turning off any nearby phones? You seem to dismiss the idea because it always worked before, but they could be contributing to interference, or someone elses phone could be. What about moving the computer? Does it help if the computer is closer to the base station?
Dropped support so soon? Airport hasn't been made in a couple of years now, and its not like its not supported at all, they just don't make them at all. Apple is glad to help you if you pay them for the privelege, same as for every other product they make. All the software they amke works with it just fine, which is kind fo the definition of supporting the technology.

  • S.M.A.R.T. Statius failing 27' iMac

Opened up disk utility today to repair disk permissions and the main 1TB ST3100........drive is in red. "This drive has a hardware problem that can't be repaired" " Back up data and replace disk" Is stated in the right window.
    S.M.A.R.T Status: In red "Failing"
I can verify Macintosh HD and Repair permissions from the sub menu of the drive. The 27' iMac seems to be operating fine. Any ideas?

I would follow Barry's advice.....you might also want to try the Apple Hardware Test just to see what it says....

  • Is NewerTech Wireless Adaptor known to fail on iMac G5, ISO 10.4.11?

I have a G5 iMac PPC with a Newer Tech Wireless Adaptor which is showing that my LAN is acitve (but vacilating off and on).  Is there a way to test to see if the stick is faullty?  At one time, last week, it was changing from my LAN to that of my neighbors.  Today it just switches from on to off and back to on but FF and Safari won't connect.  My other computers access the internet with no problem.

Hi a brody!  I have a wireless mouse and a wired keyboard and the NT Ethernet Adaptor.  I had this problem before and got it fixed then it recurred this week.  I went back and found the thread where I fixed it and got it going but when I turned it on this pm it was baulky again.  Is there a way to test the stick?
I think I just discovered why it was failing to maintain a connection today.  I had an email that I wanted to keep and still wanted it off my mail list in my other coumputer (iMac Intel 21")   I had the page on both the monitors, I deleted it on the Intel and FireFox broke the connection on the PPC but kept the page on the monitor.  I restarted the page and FF reconnected sans the page in question so I guess it's all well now.  There are so many things I don't know about these machines I seem to keep getting into trouble with them.  Can I have mail delivered to both machines then toss it on one machine and keep it on the other?

  • Can't transfer address book or e-mail content from failed G5 iMac to new 21.5" iMac

A friend's G5 iMac (running OS X 10.5.8 Snow Leopard) failed due to logic board problems. G5 hard drive is okay. A brand new 21.5" 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac (with OS X 10.9.2 installed) was bought to replace the G5.
All G5 data (e-mail, documents, etc.) was accessed and transferred cleanly except for address book content, by using the G5's drive in an external enclosure which was firewire-connected to a 27" 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac running OS X 10.7.5 (Lion); data pulled from the G5's drive was transferred via the 27" iMac to USB flash drives and from there to the 21.5" iMac. Attempting to transfer the G5  Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/AddressBook  data files/folders "AddressBook-v22.abcddb", "MailRecents-v4.abcdmr" and "Metadata " (folder) to the corresponding locations of the 21.5" iMac resulted in no recognition of them on it.
Are there files other than the above which should have been transferred, or is there a conversion process which should have been applied to the originals before transfer?

Did you have AB Quit on the new Mac when you did it?
You should be able to import Mailboxes on Mail, they're on the old drive in...
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail, after you click on that top folder, it'll show you a list of Mailboxes you can choose to import.
Then in Mail you can Select All & choose Mail's Message menu item to Add Senders to Addrees Book... or whatever they call it now... at least

  • FaceTime failed on imac

Posted this same question over a week ago, no answe yet, hoping somebody can help me.
Other devices (ipad 2) on same network connect fine. The iMac connects fine using iChat but not facetime. Have uninstalled and reinstalled the facetime application and still constantly getting "facetime failed" message. Cannot send or receive. Currently have facetime Version 1.0.2 (166).

    Just a guess,
Go to FaceTime > Preferences (in the menu bar) and see if it is turned on.
    Hope it helps.

  • USB Powered HDD fails - Alu iMac 2.4GHz 21 inch

    Hey folks,
I have an aluminium iMac 2.4GHz 21 inch model.
I have been using externally powered USB and FW devices for a while and had no issues. However, I just picked up a USB powered HDD and it cannot consistently transfer data. This same drive works perfectly on my Dell laptop, and I tried another USB powered drive from a friend (which I also know works) on my iMac and it has the same problem - cannot do any sort of mass data transfer.
I have a powered USB 2 hub (4 port Belkin) and obviously three ports on the iMac.
I also have two externally powered drives, both of which work fine.
It appears that any transfers from the INTERNAL drive to a USB Powered drive work ok, but any significant transfers from a USB drive (externally powered) to the USB powered drive FAIL.
I have tried plugging the USB powered drive into the iMac directly, and into the USB powered hub, no difference.
I suspect that the USB on the iMac just cannot handle either the power requirements or the data throughput requirements.
The external USB powered drives are:
    Western Digital Passport 250GB.
    Iomega Select 500GB.
Any hints? Or is this desktop machine just not made to work with USB powered devices???

If your two powered external drives are always connected to the iMac, you should really reformat them to +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+, and not use a Windows format. There are other limitation to FAT32, because it is an old file system from a time when hard drives were very small. One is that data is not stored as efficiently, so the same files (especially if there are a lot of small files) will take up more space on the drive. Another potential conflict is file naming convention; an allowed file name on one may not be allowed in the other (between a Windows format and a Mac format). There is also no journaling with FAT32, which is a feature that helps with data corruption issues. There are probably other disadvantages to using FAT32 on a Mac.
As a test with that external USB-powered drive (the one you own), you should use Disk Utility to reformat it to a Mac format. Then, try the file transfer again. If it works, then the cause was the existing formatting, although the exact reason may not be clear. If you need it to be FAT32, you can try using Disk Utility to format it as +MS-DOS (FAT)+. Maybe if the Mac does the formatting, it will resolve this problem, even it is still formatted as FAT32 (and it should still work on a PC).
When going from Mac format to Windows format on the entire drive, you may want to use the Disk Utility Partition tab, and not the Erase tab. On the Partition tab, reset the +Volume Scheme+ to one partition. Click the Options button and it will show the three possible choices for +Partition Map Scheme+. When you format it as +MS-DOS (FAT)+, select +Master Boot Record+. When you format it as +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+, select +GUID Partition Table+.

  • Popup when fullscreen fails

Hi everyone, I am working on a swf movie that includes a button to display it in fullscreen mode.
I have seen that there are few PCs that don't support this functionality (old flash version or corrupt installation), so I would like to give them the possibility to view my flash movie in a new web page through the javascript window.open.
I've created the code and test it using a button and it works fine. What I would really like to do is to to show it only when flash detects that fullscreen is failing or the installation is corrupt. I've already tried with a try catch inside my fullscreen button, but it doesn't seem to recognize that there is a failure.
I'm using ActionScript 2, my embed has enabled allowScriptAccess and allowFullScreen.
I use this function to open my flash movie in a new window
    function OpenEmbedInPopUp():Void{
    getURL("javascript:openwindow('mymovie.swf')");
    This is my javascript function
    function openwindow(winurl)
       var screen_height = window.screen.availHeight-50;
       var screen_width = window.screen.availWidth;
       window.open(winurl,'','location=0,status=1,left=0,top=0,height='+screen_height+'px,width= '+screen_width+'px');
    Thanks

  • IMessage Failing on iMac

I have an iPhone 5s, iPad 2, brand new iMac and 2010 Macbook Pro.  iMessage started acting up about a week ago on all devices.  Basically, when I try to send an iMessage from my iPhone it fails and then most of the time it immediately sends.  Sometimes, it wont send at all.  My iMac won't send at all. The iPad sends sometimes, same with the Macbook Pro.  I have logged out of all accounts for a minute and then logged back in. I have logged out of all accounts, logged out of all iCloud accounts, logged back in. I have reset network settings on my iPhone. Lastly, I just reset my PRAM on my iMac and it still isn't working.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Is this in one location using one router for all devices ?
Obviously iPhone and iPads could be moving between networks and in the case of an iPhone it could be relying on the Carrier's 3G coverage if there is no Wifi.
On the Mac is the Firewall On ?
If so, is Messages allowed ?
If you router allows it try adding a Public DNS server rather than relying on the ISP ones.

  • HD failed on iMac 7.1. How do I use external drive to run computer?

I have an iMac made in mid 2007. It is an Intel Duo Core processor. The hard drive has failed. Apple says I can use an external drive to run it. I have a installation disk for Snow Leopard. How can I install Snow Leopard onto the external disk given that the computer is unusable?

If no way to have an internal hard drive installed into your iMac, then you will need to purchase two good quality, large capacity FireWire 800 (fast data transfer connection) external hard drives.
FIreWire 800 drives will give you an operational speed close to the same speed as your iMac's internal hard drive.
One external hard drive will be used as your iMac's main working drive. The other drive is to be used to create either cloned, bootable backup drive or to be used with OS X Time Machine backup app.
To install OS X Snow Leopard onto an external hard drive, if your iMac's optical drive is still working, power up your iMac holding down the C key on the keyboard and immediately insert the install disc into the optical drive slot on the side of your iMac.
Your iMac should boot up to the system that is on the install disc.
Once you are in the Installer app, go up to the main menu bar and quit the installer.
Then on the main menu bar launch the Disk Utility app and format the external drive for Mac OS X Extended ( journaled ) format with a GUID partition scheme.
You can decide if you want one larger partition on break the drive down into more than one partition for data storage purposes or not.
Once the drive is formatted, quit Disk Utility, relaunch the OS X installer app and proceed, following the instructions to install OS X Snow Leopard onto your external drive.
Once installed, you'll be prompted to restart your iMac and it should automatically find where OS X is installed and boot up your Mac to OS X.
From there, you can go into OS X Preferences Panel and select the software update feature of OS X to update your OS X version to OS X 10.6.8 and all of your Apple installed apps.
In OS X System Prefrences panel under Startup disc icon, click the icon and set the startup disc for the external hard drive that shows your currently installed OS X system.
This OS X will know where OS X is always launched from and won't have to hunt for it when you always startup your Mac.
You will have to reinstall all your third party applications, too.
    Good Luck!
