Using the transaction OVEP when you select an item category and try to change it is not possible.
See note: 459285 Revenue recognition: Item category cannot be changed (but does not apply in previous version --> The problem is corrected as of Release 4.7.)

It is necessary to perform the full assessment process before we can
release the functionality for you. (See OSS note 820417 - section 'new

Avter release of the functionality the RR category is redy for input.
The assessment is a free-of-charge service SAP offers to
ensure that mandantory conditions and customizing settings are met.
The first step of the assessment would be to fill the attached
questionaire.
The second step of the assessment would be to provide
representative test cases which are done (the test should include
all your processes and consider also the non-straight
forward processes like price changes, cancellations, ...)
This assessment is necessary in order to get future support
by SAP in terms of the revenue recognition functionality.
If you have the release from SAP side, then it should be possible to chage the item type for revenue recognition.

sometimes sap throws unwanted error messages. these are example notes
415346 ME21n, ME456 when filling the account assignment type
411883 ME21N, ME456 when filling the account assignment category
403537 PO from PReq with different account assignment type: E456
Using Transaction ME21N,you create a purchase order for external service and add a new item by copying a request for quotation. If the request for quotation does not have a plant, when you enter the assignment category, the system displays error message ME456 "Account assignment category cannot be changed for limit items". Also there is no account assignment change involved.

We have a Windows 2003 file server and we are having issues with Macs retrieving files/folders from it. There is a folder on the Windows share named "dropbin" that UserA has full permissions on. UserB has the following NTFS permissions on the dropbin folder.
Traverse Folder / Execute File Allow
List Folder / Read Data Allow
Create Files / Write Data Allow
Create Folders / Append Data Allow
Write Attributes Allow
Write Extended Attributes Allow
This gives UserB the ability to look inside the dropbin folder and place content in there. This same user cannot delete or pull down anything that a different user (UserC) has put in there. UserA (the person with full permissions) should be able to pull down anything put in there.
This works fine from an XP box if an XP user (UserB) puts content in there UserA from a Mac or a PC can get and manipulate the data. If a Mac user (UserB) puts a file up there (it seems to happen with a .txt file, a .cp file, or a .zip file) UserA from a Mac gets the following error when trying to download the file:
"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named item.txt"
When you hit continue you get the following error:
"The item item.txt contains one or more busy items that cannot be changed"
If you proceed to enter in the admin credentials, the file doesn't copy down to the local Mac and fails without an error.
A couple of things we noticed....
1. If Mac UserB puts up a Word document or a .dmg file then UserA from a Mac can pull it down fine without errors.
2. On the Windows 2003 server we noticed that for each file we tried to upload it creates a ._ corresponding hidden file. For example, item.txt also has ._item.txt. If we go up on the server and remove the hidden file, Mac UserA can pull down the file fine.
3. We tried zipping the files (or files and folders) locally on Mac UserB's desktop then putting the .zip file up there but since it creates a ._file.zip Mac UserA still can't pull it down.
4. The fix we found for this is to have Mac UserB place the files they want to upload into a folder on the desktop, then upload that folder. When Mac UserA comes by they can pull down that folder's worth of stuff.
We are accessing the Windows 2003 file share by going to the finder and using the "Go" menu and entering in:
smb://servername/sharename
and they use their Windows domain credentials to log in.

We may have figured this out but it requires some more testing. The reason why the file upload creates the ._ files in the dropbin folder when UserB puts content in there is because UserB does not have the "Delete" permission in that folder. My guess is that it creates the ._ file when the file is in transit but then deletes that file after it has completed the transfer (but without the delete permission it couldn't remove the ._ file). What we did was added another user to the NTFS permissions for that folder, we added the built in "CREATOR OWNER" account and gave that user the "Delete" permission, now the ._ files do not appear under there and UserA can come along and manage the uploaded file okay.
Hope this helps someone else out.

Item Status Cannot be Changed

I had an existing PO with an item on it that was flagged as not being an Inventory item by mistake. It appears the system allowed the creation of the PO while the item was flagged this way. A Goods Receipt PO was generated from the PO and all products on the PO showed an increase in Inventory except for the one item, which seems to make sense but I would have expected an error message for trying to receive that item. The quantity received for that item did not get placed in the warehouse. We realized this was probably due to the fact it was flagged as non inventory. If we try an modify the item to say it is an Inventory item we get the message "Inventory Item status cannot be changed due to the existence of either postings or documents." How do I find what is preventing this change and what can I do when I find it? Using Drag and Relate I have no open documents with this item on it.

To find all those problematic PO is easy. Try:
SELECT T0.DocNum, T1.ItemCode
FROM OPOR T0
JOIN POR1 T1 ON T1.DocENtry = T0.DocEntry
JOIN OITM T2 ON T2.ItemCode = T1.ItemCode AND T2.InvntItem='N'
Howeve, once you created any marketing document that includes those item codes, Inventory Item status will no longer be changeable.

The valuation category cannot be changed in MM02

Hi,
While activating the Valuation category in accounting view in materail master getting the below error
"The valuation category cannot be changed" due to batch xx is existing.
checked the following.
1.No open PO's or PR's or any other documents.
2.No stocks.
Batch stocks also exhausted.
However still system showing message that, batch stocks are existing there by not allowing to make any changes.
Please suggest.

Item Category do ot change for sub-item in BOM

Hi Friends
I create main item using MM01, Gen item cat. grop in basic data 1 in ERLA and Item cat. group in Sales org. 2 is LUMF
and similarily i created other items useing MM01 (for making sub item of main item) Gen Item Cat grop in basic data 1 is NORM and Item cat group in Sales Org. is also NORM.
When i create sales order (OR) and enter main item only, when i press enter (green button at right top), BOM automatically explode and Item Category of main item change to TAP main item become in display mode BUT ITEM CATEGORY of sub items do not change (it remains the same as TAN), i should also change to TAE
and also when i save this document it shows error at bottam that prising PR00 is missing. When i edit and give price of each sub item, i can save document and all prices which i am giving just now is automatically added in net value at header lavel.
Please any one can advice me where i am doing wrong

Please check in customizing.IN assign item category menu
S.doc typeitem cat. groupUsageHigh lvl itemiem cate.
ORERLA TAQTAE.
IN MM01 ERLA and LUMF can not be assigned to same material.They are alternative item category group.
ERLA is used when you want to price Main item in BOM and sub-item are not priced.
LUMF is used when main item in BOM is not priced but sub-item(individual component) are priced.
In SAles org vie 2- you have assigned LUMF,that is each sub-item is priced.hence you are able save the document.Since You have maintained price in VK11 for each sub-item and item category of sub-item is not getting vhanged from TAN to TAE.
But if you maintained ERLA in Sales org view 2 and redo all steps,your problem will be solved.

Item Category Grayed Out (Not Available for Input)

Hi Experts,
I want to know SAPs logic for graying out it. cat. field (PSTYV) when entering an Order. Item category cannot be changed while creating an order once its determined. How & why does SAP grays out it. cat. field and under which circumstances.
My case: I have a configurable item and based on this item subsequent item and its it. cat. is determined, once SAP determines second item it is graying out it. cat fields on both items. Though in configuration I have manual it. cat. maintained for both items along with dependancies. Any info on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Change MM PR or PO Item Category Settings

Hi all,
I know the standard SAP doesn't allow creation of new item categories. However, is there a configuration within SPRO that allows changing of their individual settings?

Unfortunately, no, you cannot, this is explained in SAP Note 61345 OMH4 Attributes of item categories cannot be changed
Table T163 (Item categories) has the character of an SAP system table.
The indicators for account assignment and GR/IR control may not be
changed by customers. Using transaction OMH4 you can change merely the
external identifier and the text of the item category: the attributes
can only be displayed. The only field that can be influenced through
Customizing is the statistics update group (T163-STAFO): the relevant
Customizing transaction is OMGO. For this reason, this table has been
assigned to delivery class G (Customizing tables) in the Data
Dictionary.

One or more busy items cannot be changed

I've dragged songs out of iTunes to a folder on the desktop, dragging this folder to my external HD the message "the item "..." contains one or more busy items that cannot be changed" comes up. The permissions for this folder are read and write so not sure what else to do. I've done this before and had no problems...

I finally sorted out a similar problem.
Discover which files are involved by copying the *contents* of the source folder to a destination.
The offending folder (or folders) should display by name. If the item is a file, the file name should display. You can drill down within a folder by the same process: copy the contents (not the entire folder) to a destination, to find the offending folder or item.
I ran across and old (2002) posting which mentioned file type as preventing deletion:

I found an old application which can display file creator and type on OS X:

How old is it? The System Requirements are:
"FileType runs on Mac OS X v10.0 or later and on Mac OS 8.6 or later with CarbonLib 1.3."
It runs on 10.4. Haven't tested anything later.
I discovered that the file types on the offending files were "brok". It so happens they were all tiffs, so I changed them to "TIFF". I still got a message about needing to enter an admin user and password, but the copy then worked.

Change item category in delivery order

Hi everyone
Issue: Can not change item category in delivery order.
Phenomenon:
1:Create purchase order and receive item based on it. complete invoice verification.
2:Use MIGO to create return delivery based on material document that is created during above process.
3:Based on system settings, (Sales org, ship-to party etc), outbound delivery is automatically created in background.
4:Try to change item category which is already determined during delivery order creation, but it is grayed out.
Can we change item category in this situation?
I have checked thread "Number of attempts to change Item Category
This looks same issue but I still do not know how to control item category in delivery order.
In material type, is there any place I can configure to allow user to change item category
in delivery order?
Please advise.

Issue while changing Item Category during Sales Order Creation

Hi,
Requirement:
Requirement is to change the item category of Sales Order item while creating the sales order.
Rule is: If item category is IRAT then it should be changed to IRLN.
For this, I am using the user exit "USEREXIT_SAVE_DOCUMENT_PREPARE" available in the include MV45AFZZ.
Issue:
Using the above mentioned exit, Item category is getting changed to the desired value in the created sales order BUT value of Billing Status (VBUP-FKSAA) which is supposed to get changed is blank.
For example, Sales order is created from VA01 and item category is changed manually to the value mentioned above, then for the sales order created we have VBUP-FKSAA = 'A'. But when value of Item category is not changed manually and it is changed from the exit, then value of VBUP-FKSAA is blank.
I have to find a solution which would change the value of Billing Status according to the change in the value of Item Category.
Please suggest a relevant solution.

I have a simmilar problem. In my case I am changing Reason of Rejection in the user-exit, but net value is not getting updated. Did you solve your problem? Any other way to change a field of a sales order item?

Unable to Change Item Category in Sales order

I am creating sales order with reference to sales contract but at the time of sales order we don't have en off stock to deliver to customer , so we have deiced to Third party sales process
But the problem is while creating a sales order with reference to Sales contract the line item of the sales order in grad Mode ( Not changeable mode )
Can any one guide me how sales order line item should be in active mode so i can change the Item category as a TAS third party item category

You can the item category field (VBAP-PSTYV) editable , if item is configurable (item category TAC), then change item category to TAS.
by using include MV45AFZZ - FORM USEREXIT_FIELD_MODIFICATION.
when screen 4001 or 4003.
   IF VBAP-PSTYV = 'TAC'.
           SCREEN-INPUT = 0.
          MODIFY SCREEN.
        ENDIF.

Change Item Category in Sales Order

Dear Sir,
We require Item Category field to be editable in VA02. Ours is MTO scenario when we enter Material in SO the Item Category fields gets grey out we require the same to be editable. We have also maintianed the MItC in Item category determination in VOV4 still the fields gets greyed out.

Item category will only be in editable mode in VA02 unless and until the delivery is not made or partial delivery has been done
Manual item category is to change manually the automatic determination done by the system and not to input manually when there is no automatic determination
Even make to order item category TAK is in editable mode in VA02 transaction
May be something else in your setup controlling this

Item category change in contract load of CRM

Hi Guys,
i am loading contracts into CRM-intellectual property Management. i have to create 2 to 3 line items for same product in one contract with higher level items. generally item category is determined and can be changed via GUI. my requirement is i want to change item category through FM CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN by the time it creates contract but item category is not changing, showing what ever was determined.
i am passing item_type in ORDERADM_I and passing item_type field name for input fields but it is not helping me. Please let me know if any body has any clue..

Do you want to change the item category just before order (contract) save? Or after the save? Try looking at crm_orderadm_i_badi.
Another idea ... try manually changing the item category in CRM Online, BUT .. do a /h and place a breakpoint at ABAP statement "call function CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN". This way you can see the input parameters for CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN when CRM itself is changing the item category, the correct way. Then from these input parameters you can get the hint of what parameters must be passed to CRM_ORDER_MAINTAIN to change the item category by a direct call. I hope that made sense....

Item category change issue

We have implemented scenario A settings for return orders to exchange and edit in both ECC and CRM systems. We are having a scenario where item category for an item in return order will be changed to the other in ECC system. In our case we have the status profile assigned to the item category which was initial and we dont have any status profile for the item category which is changed to in both ECC and CRM systems. We are gtting errors in CRM and the document is locked when the item category is changed in ECC and saved. The error is 'The status procedure could not be set from item category XXX'. Can you please suggest how can we fix this issue?
