"[item name]" can't be modified or deleted because it's required by OS X.

OK, so I purchase ID3 Editor.
• Download a .dmg file.
• Open disk image:
• Instructions tell me to copy software to Applications folder. Which I do.
• Want to rename the Extras folder so that it reads "ID3 Extras", and shows up next to the App it refers to when in list view (have done this forever in Mac OS)
• OS will not allow me to rename folder. If I highlight it and hit "return", nothing happens.
• OK, I create a new folder, name it what I want, move the contents of "Extra" to the folder. Done. Now all I have to do is to delete the unwanted, empty, folder, right?
• Wrong, when I try to delete it, by any method, I get the message:
“Extras” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by OS X.
I've just installed this item. It is NOT required by OS X for anthing. I should be able to modify my Applications folder at will.
Will someone, for the love of God, tell me how I might be able to delete this unwanted, unneeded folder from my Applications folder?

You can't. Either turn it on or off. Why do you need to use VO's activation keys? Why can't you just use different keys?

    “iCal” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X. can anyone help?

    Ah - you mean your calendars rather than the iCal application. It's no good trying to restore the application: the iCal calendars are held in (user)/Library/Calendars and you would need to restore the earlier version of that from a backup such as Time Machine.
    Even if you able to do this, syncing will just remove the deleted items again. Are you syncing with MobileMe? - please see this page:

    Click the Apple menu at the left end of your menubar. Select "About this Mac." You will get a window like this:
    Your Mac OS version is indicates in the image by the upper red arrow. While you are there, please tell us what information you find for "Processor," where the lower red arrow is pointing.

    I tried following the steps in this article. When I attempt to delete iTunes,  it says “iTunes” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X. What other steps could I take to get my MacBook Air to recognize my iphone again? Neither iTunes nor iPhoto recognize my phone any longer.

    iTunes can't be deleted because it comes with OS X. In order to delete it, open Terminal and copy:
    sudo rm /Applications/iTunes.app
    This will remove iTunes, so then you can reinstall iTunes

  • TM error:  can't be modified or deleted because it's required by Mac OS X.

    I found the TM didn't restore 2 folders which are most important after I reinstall my OS.
    namely, the "applications" and "user" folders.
    which appeared the "xxxx" can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X error message.
    therefore, all my past applications are not restored after the reinstallation.
    what happened?

    it's strange that those things were not transferred in the first place. they should have. this might indicated that there is a problem with your backup. when you are attempting to restore applications by hand don't restore the whole Applications folder. the message you got indicates that this is what you were doing. restore only the apps themselves. also, you can do it ONLY with applications that were installed by drag and drop into the Applications folder. if an application was installed using an installer you can not restore it this way and should reinstall it from scratch.
    what exactly in the user folder are you trying to restore? some folders in your home directory are protected by deny delete ACLs and can not be restored like this. this includes your whole home directory, and all the default folders on it's top level. but you can restore files and folders inside those and any files and folders you created yourself.

  • How can I insert, modify and delete entries on my table control?

    Hi,
    I already have build a table control. Now I want to make manipulations on it. Therefore I have created 3 buttons, insert, modify and delete. But how can I get actions on table control.
    This is my code for the internal table:

  • Error message: File can't be opened right now because it's being used by another task, such as moving or copying an item or emptying the Trash. Try again when the current task is complete.

    I recently transferred some data from my external hard drive to my desktop, but there was an error transferring some of the files and it couldn't respond, and eventually i simply removed the external hard drive. However, the folder/files are still on my desktop, and when i try to move them or delete them, this error message appears:
    “-folder/file name-” can’t be opened right now because it’s being used by another task, such as moving or copying an item or emptying the Trash. Try again when the current task is complete.
    Since I removed the external hard drive before the files were finished transferring, there is no way for the current task to be completed. How can I resolve this and delete the folders/files from my desktop?

    I just managed to resolve this by going to the apple sign in the top left, choosing force quit (or you could do option+command+esc), then i chose finder, and i clicked relaunch. After relaunching finder, the error message doesn't appear anymore, and I could move these files/folders, and delete them just fine.
    Hope this will help other people who encounter similar problems in the future!

    Hi,
    Please help me for this.
    I need to create XML file for mentioned below. when i run the photoshop script i need deatails for active document name, date, time and status.

    if the file name is already exist i want to modify or delete or add whatever i need.
    Kindly help me simple way

    You may want to look into getting Xtools ps-scripts - Browse Files at SourceForge.net then.  Most of the support is for ActionManager script code where XML code is use as an intermediate step.  There are quite a few Photoshop script in XTools .   Ross Huitt is an expert javascript programmer though is is fed up with Adobe's lack of support for Photoshop scripting particularly the bugs in ScriptUI he is still maintaining tool he  has created for us free of charge. Tools like Image Processor Pro. None of his scripts are save as binary so you can read all of his code there is a wealth of knowledge in there....
    Also there is a scripting forum Photoshop Scripting

  • [Solved]Portal 10.1.4 - Request Help to Modify Item Name using PL/SQL API

    I have a region on a page that contains content items. These are PDF files that were uploaded. I want to know how I can programmatically change the description.
    I have been looking at both set_attributes() and modify_item_post_upload() functions in the API. Is this my best option, or is there an alternative.
    I have been leaning towards calling modify_item_post_upload(), but have a question on the parameters.
    I can get p_master_item_id, but what is p_item_id?
    I would like to call the method like this:
    declare
    l_masterid number;
    l_display_name varchar2(100);
    begin
    l_masterid := <some number);
    l_display_name := 'New Name for item';
    modify_item_post_upload(
    p_master_item_id => l_masterid,
    p_display_name => l_display_name
    end;
    So questions are:
    1. What modifications do I need for a simple call to change an items name?
    2. What additional functions/procedures do I need to call so the display gets updated with the new information? Do I have to clear the cache suing wxutils, or can I just call wwpro_api_invalidation.execute_cache_invalidation; ?
    If you want the "rest of the story" - I created a web front end in JDeveloper that allows specific end users to login, upload files, and delete items for a specific portal page containing content items. One of the common mistakes is a misspelling of the display name by the end user. So instead of deleting an item, then re-adding an item, the end user would like to edit the display name for just the item that has the misspelling. I have set this up in JDeveloper with an edit screen that contains just the display name. Now I need a function/procedure that I can call from the application module that will update just the display name for this particular item. I have already coded an ADF model that uses the search_item and converts the results into a result_set, and use that to create a View Object in the ADF for JDeveloper to use. Now to finish this user request, I just need to figure out the PL/SQL API part for modifying a display name. The item still needs to keep it's reference to the uploaded PDF file.
    Thanks, Ken

    Very nice! I like the code example. In looking at needing to change only the title of the item, I created a procedure that calls set_attribute. Here is the code:
    create or replace
    procedure update_newslinearchive_item (p_masterid in number, p_displayname in varchar2) as
    cursor items_cur(p_id IN NUMBER) is
    select * from wwsbr_all_items
    where masterid = p_id
    and caid = <pagegroup>
    and active = 1
    and is_current_version = 1
    and language = wwctx_api.get_nls_language;
    items_rec wwsbr_all_items%rowtype;
    begin
    dbms_output.put_line('masterid = ' || to_char(p_masterid));
    dbms_output.put_line('display_name = ' || p_displayname);
    -- Login to the portal for access to function calls
    wwctx_api.set_context('<username>','<password>');
    -- Verify that the item to be deleted is in the items table
    open items_cur(p_masterid);
    fetch items_cur into items_rec;
    if items_cur%found then
    dbms_output.put_line('record found');
    wwsbr_api.set_attribute(
    p_site_id => items_rec.caid,
    p_thing_id => items_rec.id,
    p_attribute_site_id => wwsbr_api.SHARED_OBJECTS,
    p_attribute_id => wwsbr_api.ATTRIBUTE_TITLE,
    p_attribute_value => p_displayname
    wwpro_api_invalidation.execute_cache_invalidation;
    dbms_output.put_line('Clearing Cache');
    -- Now clear the web-cache
    wxvutil.invalidate_reset;
    wxvutil.invalidate_uri('<server:port/path/to/page>,0,null);
    wxvutil.invalidate_exec('<server>',4001,'<webcache password>');
    else
    dbms_output.put_line('record NOT found');
    end if;
    close items_cur;
    exception
    when others then
    dbms_output.put_line('SQLCODE = ' || SQLCODE);
    dbms_output.put_line('SQLERRM = ' || SUBSTR(SQLERRM,1,200));
    if items_cur%isopen then
    close items_cur;
    end if;
    end update_newslinearchive_item;
    Thank you for the example for modify_item_post_upload!

  • The operation can't be completed because backup items can't be modified.

    In my Time Machine backup, I have also stored backups from my previous Mac. They do not appear in the "Star Wars" screen. When I try to delete files I receive the message: "The operation can’t be completed because backup items can’t be modified."
    What does this mean, and is there a way to delete said files?
    (My Time Machine backup is plugged in and running. The files are not even sent into the Trash, so my question doesn't relate to whether the files will delete from the trashcan, etc.)
    Many thanks in advance for any and all help!

    While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to delete. Right-click or control-click an item. From the popup menu, select Delete All Backups of... Confirm. Exit Time Machine.

  • The item "(name of the song)" can't be replaced because it's invisible!!??!

    I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue.
    I've been backing up my song purchases to the time capsule but for some reason on half of my songs i get an error that says "*The item (name of the song) can't be replaced because its invisible*"
    never had this problem before until now... not sure how to fix it. i can play my songs no problem but when i try to copy a song to the time capsule i get that error message. HELP!

    The issue has nothing to do with your original files (I'm pretty sure) so the profession of being able to play the song in iTunes has nothing to do with it. The file that's "invisible" is not the original, but the copy that's already in the destination folder. OS X has LOTS of invisible files all over the place. Why didn't you know that before? They're invisible! Usually these are files the system needs for proper operation, but the user doesn't need to mess with (according to Apple!).
    Now, how did your destination folder wind up with an invisible file by the same name as the song file you're trying to copy? I don't know, but what it looks like to me is that standard opperating procedure for the OS is to begin its copying process by first creating an invisible file in the destination folder with the proper title, then begin actually copying data. For some reason that Apple needs to fix, sometimes when the OS goes to start actually copying data, it sees the invisible file it just created and says "Oops! there's already a file there by this title! I can't put another one there!" Normally, it would ask you, the user, if you wanted to replace the existing file, but the file is invisible and therefore cannot be replaced, so it just tells you that.
    What to do?
    I LOVE the widget available here: http://web.me.com/hansen.m/Site/Widgets.html One trip to the dashboard, click on "Show", and viola! you can see that pesky invisible file in your destination folder. Now you can delete it. Sometimes this works and a second attempt to copy the file works. More often I find that I have to copy to a different folder on the destination disk. After that I can move it to the preferred folder (copying from the local hard disk to some other location - I run into this when copying to my idisk - seems to be part of the problem.)
    In case that was about as clear as a toad's complexion, let me illustrate. I move files for sharing to my idisk every week. I click on a song and drag from iTunes, where I've already placed my recording, to a Finder window where idisk/Music/ReChording is already open, wait for the green circle with the white plus sign, and drop it. I get the message about not being able to replace. I access my dashboard and click "Show". Then I delete the now visible (grayed, but visible) offending file from my idisk. Then I click (in the Finder) on the idisk/Music folder, making it the destination. Then click on iTunes and drag the song to the idisk/Music folder. It copies. When it's done, I drag the file from idisk/Music to idisk/Music/ReChording. This copy has never given me a problem, and is nearly instantaneous, since no data needs to be copied.
    Download that widget. It's a lot less painful than other workarounds. But Apple needs to fix this.
    I hope that helps.

    Following error message 'The item “iPhoto Library” can’t be moved because “10.0.1.3” can’t be modified' pops up, when I'm trying to copy my iPhoto library to my  Synology NAS. Any thoughts what I need to do in order to succeed?

    Would you rather recomment me to change to another programme like to iphoto to store and work with my photos?
    I would use the NAS for documents and other data that do not need a library with database files inside. For iPhoto a small portable drive that you can plug in directly would be perfect; you can get one for 79$ http://mac-portable-hard-drive-review.toptenreviews.com/western-digital-review.h tml
    Before you try to copy your iPhoto library anywhere, make sure it does not have any inconsistencies, that could prevent copying. Run a rebuild, using the First Aid tools. See this post by Old Toad on how to do it: Re: iPhoto version 8.1.2
    The item “iPhoto Library” can’t be moved because “10.0.1.3”
    That error message is very typical for copying between incompatible file systems. I get this error message usually when I try to move iPhoto libraries or Aperture libraries to drives with MS Dos (FAT) or unix formatting, or when some of the image files inside the library contain ethnic characters (Umlaute), have very long file names, or the filenames contain other special characters.
    Do you have any other large data sets that you could try to move to your NAS instead of your iPhoto library?  Movies, Music? Then move these first to have enough working space, when you try to move the iPhoto library. If you are running out of space, it will be difficult for the OS to move large amounts of data at once. That will need working space.

  • On deleting an item "Name" column of recycle bin is updating with data in one of the custom column instead of title field in SP 2013 Custom list

       On deleting an item, "Name" column of recycle bin is updating with data in one of the custom column instead of title field in SP 2013 Custom list.
    Thanks, Chinnu

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to update title field in recycle bin with other field value of the item.
    We can use the ItemDeleting Event Receiver to achieve it.
    While item is deleting, replace title field value with other field value using ItemDeleting event receiver, then in the recycle bin, the title value will replace with other field value.
    However, there is an issue while restore the item from the recycle bin, the item title would be replaced.
    As an workaround, we can create a helper field in the list to store the title field value while deleting, then replace back while restoring using
    ItemAdded Event Receiver.
    I have made a simple code demo below to achieve this scenario, it works like a charm(the
    Test2 field is the helper field, you can hide it in the list), you can refer to it.
    public override void ItemDeleting(SPItemEventProperties properties)
    properties.ListItem["Test2"]=properties.ListItem["Title"];
    properties.ListItem["Title"]=properties.ListItem["Test1"];
    properties.ListItem.Update();
    base.ItemDeleting(properties);
    /// <summary>
    /// An item was added.
    /// </summary>
    public override void ItemAdded(SPItemEventProperties properties)
    base.ItemAdded(properties);
    properties.ListItem["Title"] = properties.ListItem["Test2"];
    properties.ListItem.Update();
