Items appearing in trash

I know this sounds crazy, but since upgrading to Leopard, I have on a number of occasions discovered items in the trash that I did not place there!
Just now I opened an Excel file and closed it without making any changes. When I went to empty the trash I checked and found it there! It would certainly have taken a number of pretty explicit actions to get the file there, which I know I did not do! It has happened on at least a dozen occasions since installing Leopard.
Needless to say, I am becoming paranoid, and always check the trash for important files before emptying it.
Is there some obscure thing which would be changing the path names of my files?

I cannot be 100% sure that it has only happened with Office files.
I was maybe not clear enough in the original post, in that it is not duplicate files that appear in the trash, but the original file. In other words, the path name of the original file is altered so that it is simply re-located to the trash. If I don't check before I empty my trash, I lose it!

  • Old deleted items appearing again in trash

    Hello,
I have been reviewing my trash of late and I have noticed that items that I have previously deleted and subsequently emptied from the Trasn Car and re-appearing. Yesterday my trash was empty and today there are items appearing as having been deleted on 17th December???
    Anyone know why this is?
    Thanks

Have you tried using the Secure Empty Trash option?
There may be a solution in this article:  What to do when the Trash won’t empty
    Mountain Lion (10.8.1)
Use Software Update or the OS 10.8.4 combo update to update your OS.  Also, update everything SU has to offer for your computer.  When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

  • Cannot see items in my trash bin sice upgrading to mountain lion

cannot see deleted items in my trash bin, since upgrading to mountain lion,it seems to delete items straight away.

    Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • When I move items to the trash they do not go into the trash, they are deleted entirely

Heading above pretty much explains it.  Sometime recently, my trash started acting differently - when I attempt to move an item into the trash, I get a message asking if I want to delete the item permanently.  I am sure this is a fairly new phenomenon.

Click on the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon and verify that you are able to write to this folder in the Sharing & Permissions section of the Get Info window, and that it isn't locked; if it is already set this way and you get that error, open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following:
    mkdir ~/.Trash
If you get a message stating that the folder exists, run the following:
    sudo chown $UID ~/.Trash
    chmod u+rwx ~/.Trash
The first command in the second set will prompt you for your administrator password; nothing will appear in the Terminal window while it is being typed. In either case, click on the Finder icon in the Dock with the Control and Option keys pressed, and relaunch it.

I have 139 items in my Trash, When I click on secure empty trash to erase them it wants to erase 1309 items. Does anyone know what may be going on?

If your erasing packages or programs, they appear like a file, but are actually folders with more files and folders inside.
For instance right click on your Pictures/iPhoto Library and "show package contents" inside is more files and folders of files.

  • Vendor open items appearing in FBl1 but same documents not appearing F-44.

    Hi,
Vendor open items appearing in FBl1 but same documents not appearing F-44.
    Please help me in this.
    Thanks
    GP

    Hi,
F-44 is used for clearing vendor - header data. Check if there are both debit and credit entries for the vendor and if it exists then clear using F-44. Check the entries correctly in FBL1.

  • While composing emails, either a new email or replying to a received email, multiple partial versions of the same email appear in trash folder.  For a lengthy email, e.g. 2 pgs.  I may have as many as 100 partial versions of that email appear in trash.

The Mac has 2 profiles.  When composing an email in mail (gmail account), multiple versions of the same email appear in trash as you are composing the email.  Does not appear to be any specific attributes which trigger this.  When email is sent.  The entire email appears in sent folder, while you still have multiple versions in trash.  This same thing occurs if you create and save a draft email.
This only occurs on one of the two profiles.  Both profiles are administrators.  But this is the secondary profile.
We have compared all settings on the Mac for both profiles, gmail online, etc.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Ick. So it can't just work sensibly? Sensible would be either autosave overwrites previously autosaved versions or all autosaved versions would be deleted when the message is finally sent. Allowing previous message versions to accumulate endlessly might be beneficial to someone, but does not seem like sensible default behavior.

  • Is there a way of displaying  the various item in my Downloads folder as icons arranged in order of Date Created, such that the most recent items appear at the bottom, rather than the top?

Is there a way of displaying  the various item in my Downloads folder as icons arranged in order of Date Created, such that the most recent items appear at the bottom, rather than the top? I know this can be done when they are displayed as a list, but I want icons!

    Hi geezer,
when you open your 'Downloads' folder choose 'View'  in the Menu bar and choose:
    'as List'
    'Show View Options'
In 'View options' window you tick:
    'Always open in list view'
    'Date Modified', or
    'Date created'
Now inside the 'Downloads' folder click on 'Date Created' (or 'Date Modified')
column to get items alined from oldest to newest date (or reverse)…

  • Deleting a single item from the trash.

    Hello
Is there a way to delete a single item from the trash, while leaving all other items in the trash?

I don't believe so and I'm not sure why you would want to.
Items should not be placed in the Trash unless you intend to delete the items. The Trash is not designed for and should not be used as a temporary storage location.

  • How to make a new line item appear in a sales order in VA01 transaction?

    Dear All,
I am trying to create a SO with single line item with quantity 100.
Upon hitting the 'Enter' key, if the available quantity is less than the requested quantity (say 20), it takes me to an availabilty control screen which has a push-button 'One-time delivery' on the application tool bar.
Upon clicking on this button, it takes me back to the main screen of VA01 where I currently see only one line item with quantity 100 and confirmed quantity 20.
My requirement here is to make two line items appear, one with quantity 20 and the other with quantity 80, once I navigate back to the main screen of VA01 after clicking on the push-button 'One-time delivery'.
Please provide me your valuable inputs. Any kind of help is highly appreciated.
    Useful answers never go unrewarded.
    Regards,
    Sreekanth Reddy B.

    Hi Sreekanth ,
creating line items based on the confirmation qty can be done thru config, not thru ABAP,standard SAP will gives you options to create a new line item for unconfirmed qtys.
check with ur functional consultant or try to post in SD /APO forums.

  • How to clear Noted Items appearing in FBL5N

    HI All,
I have an issue as below. One of our customer posted one noted item, later he created a down payment transaction.
While doing this down payment, he cleared the noted item.
Now the noted item appears as cleared item  and down payment made is appearing as open item in transaction FBL5N.
Here  I would like to suggest the customer to revese the down payment transaction and post a customer Invoice and clear that customer invoice by down payment transaction.
But here my question is if we do reverse the down payment transaction posted initially, then noted item will appear as open item.
Now, How to clear the open item.
    Awaiting for your responses.
    Thanks
    Prasad

    Dear prasad naga,
I want to clarify your question and i will give you my answer depending on your question understanding.
Firstly you want to clear the noted item (down payment request) with the in voice or to be cleared anyway.
So when you create the down payment you select the noted item to create new down payment while the noted item has no financial effect, secondly when yu create the invoice and clear down payment with it it will clear down payment (noted item was cleared depending on creating the down payment on it). So where is the problem??
    I hope it helps you
    Best Regards
    Hussein

  • Problem with moving items to the trash

Whenever i move items to the trash, i get a pop up window that asks me to type my password because "Finder wants to make changes". when i type my password, the item is moved to the trash but automatically is cleared from the trash, so when i open the trash there is never anything in it.
Although my trash folder is clean from items, I still running out of hard drive space as if the trash hasn't been cleaned at all
It all started happenning when switched to OSX Lion.
How can I solve this problem?
    Thanks
    Aner

    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.finder.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
