Items don't show in Applications, Documents, and random other folders in Finder?

Hello Mac community,
Within the last week I've encountered a strange problem in Finder, in which I cannot view my main Applications or Documents folder. I mean, I can click on it, and it takes me there, but the folders appear to be empty -- nothing shows up. When I "get info," the size of the folder tells me that they're still there, but that doesn't help me very much.
Thankfully, my Dropbox folder still shows up, and that's where I have most of my often-used files. This isn't too much comfort. I have to open files by searching for them in Spotlight or by clicking on the Stacks that I've made prior. I have a Macbook Pro early 2011, running OS X 10.8.2 (12C60).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The post you're referring to is over 2 years old, and since then Google pulled the plug on Active Sync, which means you can't use Exchange to set up a Gmail account in iOS.  But the good news is, since that time the iOS 7 account profile for Gmail has improved and actually works pretty well ... about the only complaint I have is that it does not support push, but I'm not too bothered by that limitation.

    Don't panic. OS X 10.5.8 is the most popular PowerPC OS out there. People run it everyday without security breaches, including myself. It isn't Windows!

    I have read your post on how you are looking to eliminate two locations on the My Documents and My Pictures folders of your desktop computer, and I would be happy to assist you!
    Since it appears that both the Documents and Pictures folders have mirrored themselves, I recommend performing a backup and recovery of your operating system. This can be done by following the steps in this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7). This should return your system back to factory defaults.

    Most scanners default to Pictures folder or the Desktop.
    If you select All My Files and Arrange by Date Added you should be able to find the file.
    If you turn on Show Path bar and Show Status bar for your Finder Window under View in the Menu bar, when you select the file you will see the path of the file in the bottom of the Finder window.

    In the course of locating my Firefox profile so that I could back it up to Mozy, I discovered that the Firefox document that contains my bookmarks, located in C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\779klznm.default, is not up to date. Nor is the Firefox document containing bookmarks located in C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.s9s up to date.
    When my browser is open, the bookmarks that I see when I click on Bookmarks are up to date. Why is that not reflected in my profile? And, if my bookmarks are not up to date in my profile, I wonder what else is not up to date, like my search engines, add-ons, etc.
    I also tried backing up in my bookmarks library, but the backups go to my desktop as a JSON file.
    Can someone please tell me what to do to make sure all my Firefox settings are up to date in my profile?

    Your bookmarks and browsing history are stored in a file named '''places.sqlite''' in your Profile folder.
    Bookmark backups are in bookmarks.json format, and Firefox automatically does daily backups and stores 10 backups in the \bookmarkbackups\ folder in the Profile folder.
    BTW, August 2008 was probably the last time that Profile was used in a Firefox 2.0 version. The sqlite storage was first implemented in Firefox 3.0.

  • How to save a document and allow others to sign too

    Hopefully someone can help me out with this. I've spent a good 12 hours playing with different methods and techniques over the past week and still am trying to get this little bugger sorted out.
    I'm working on some real estate contracts and need to be able to not only sign them, but once the document is signed, continue adding text to the document and allow another to sign it as well, even if that sounds weird to add content after it's signed.
    (I basically am trying to save time by having some presigned contracts that I fill out as needed so I don't have to go through the signing process every time.)
    How can I save a PDF and then continue to add more content later, as well as add more signatures as needed?
    I'm using Acrobat Reader XI for Mac if it makes a difference.

    Thanks for the quick response. I'm using an image of my handwritten signature.
    I downloaded a trial of Acrobat Pro, but does it offer more functionality than I can get with simply the reader?
    Similarly, if I have a PDF that won't let me sign it, how can I make it signable?

  • Does Lion support having the applications folder and the User folders on a separate disk (other than the startup disk)?

    Is it possible to Install Lion while having the Application Folder and/or the User Folder on separate drives (other than the startup disk)  Leopard didn't really support this as it would have errors with e-mail and other services that where not stored directly on the startup disk.

    It's possible, but don't put the Applications folder elsewhere, and keep at least a miminal Admin account on your startup drive (so you can still log on to do troubleshooting, etc., if there's a problem with the other drive).
    Many apps are expected to be in the Applications folder on the OSX drive; they may not work on a different drive and/or may not be found or updated when updates are available.  Apple and Adobe apps, especially, are subject to this.  Don't put them in folders, either, as similar things may happen. 
    Besides, apps don't take up much space anyway, it's the data that may.
    It's often better to keep the home folders on the OSX drive, but put large data folders on a separate drive, such as iPhoto, iTunes, or large video collections.

    an icon, which shows a descriptive text label, but when I view the
    captivate file, its not there. Can I make rollover content show up
    after recording?

    One way to do this after you have recorded is to grab screen
    captures of the rollover items. Then you open the slide where they
    should appear and click Insert > Rollover Image. Specify the
    image(s) you captured. Then size the rollover area where you need
    it to be.
    If you click Options > Recording Options... followed by
    the Edit Settings... button to the right of the recording mode,
    have you tried enabling "Convert tooltips to rollover captions"?
    Maybe that will do some of what you need?

  • New entered contacts on ios 7 don't show on phone contacts and on icloud

    the new entered contacts on my iphone 4s with ios 7. is not showing  on iphone contacts search  niether on icloud. However, if i dial the phone number corresponding to the new entered contact it shows the name on the phone screen.

    It's probably because they belong to a non-iCloud account on your iPad.  (iCloud only syncs contacts that belong to the iCloud account.)
    To check, open the contacts app on your iPad and tap Groups.  Do you have any non-iCloud accounts listed, such as On My iPhone, Gmail, Yahoo or an exchange account?
    Also go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section).  Do you have the Default Account setting there, and if so, what is selected as your default account?

    Well I am surprised by your answer. I thought that if you had used it, maybe something of the settings was left behind after uninstalling it.
    I do not think it will solve your issue, but try it, you will never know....

  • When I sync my iPhone5 to iTunes, the songs in my playlists don't show up in order, and I can't reorder them on the phone.

    This is a real problem for me, since I listen to a lot of Original Broadway Cast albums, and the songs need to be ordered correctly.  What am I doing wrong, and how can I fix it?  When I sync to my iPad, the songs all sync in the correct order!

    Normal Playlist:
    Take screen shot of playlist
    delete the playlist on itunes
    sync phone
    go to 'music' on the left hand menu
    go to 'file'
    go to 'new'
    click 'playlist'
    recreate the playlist using the screen shot
    resync phone
    Smart Playlists:
    right click playlist title in the menu on the left
    click 'edit smart playlist'
    take screen shot of edit window
    delete playlist
    sync phone
    go to 'music' on the left hand menu
    go to 'file'
    go to 'new'
    click 'smart playlist'
    recreate the playlist using the screen shot
    resync phone
