Items dragged from iTunes go invisible

Suddenly, when I drag songs from iTunes to my desktop or to an external drive, they go invisisble. When I switch the Finder to reveal hidden files, I see the songs there along with a file called .DS_Store which does not appear in the regular Finder. Not sure if the .DS_Store file has anything to do with the problem, but deleting the songs in the "view hidden files" view also puts a copy of the .DS_Store file in the trash. I discovered som old posts about iTunes files going invisible, but I didn't find anything to help me stop my iTunes from behaving this way.

Here's an experiment: find any audio file in a format which iTunes will play, and place it in the Shared folder in the Users folder at root level.
Create a new user account on your Mac if you don't already have one. In it, open iTunes. Locate the file in the Shared folder and drag it into iTunes: check that it plays.
Now try dragging it to the Desktop. If it works there is something in your own account which is causing the problem. If it doesn't then it's more global and may be a problem in your System (incidentally please always quote your system when you have a question as it can affect the answer).

What the message says. In iTunes g the the Store tab in ther upper part of the screen and then clink on Authorize this computer.

I just don't understand why I still can't download new videos as I've deleted the software I installed and I've changed my camera settings back to what they were before when I could download into iPhoto. I perhaps should have mentioned it's iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. Is there any way of putting iPhoto back as the "default download and view" programme?

iPhoto is not a download and view program - it is a photo management database program that imports photos - Image Capture is a download program - Preview is a view program
The default program to download your photos is set in the preference panel of either iPhoto or image capture

Can't Drag from iTunes into Garageband anymore

After routine software update to iTunes 10 and Garageband 09 version 5.1, I can no longer drag files from iTunes into Garageband, whereas I always could before. Whats wrong? I'm using an iMac with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory.

Somehow, when I tried to drag from the finder, I didn't always get the right song! But if I double clicked that song in the finder, the right song was played by iTunes, even though the wrong song showed up in Garage Band. Dragging to and from the desktop worked fine, and I just dragged it from the desktop to the trash after I worked on it in Garage Band for editing and "sharing" back into iTunes.

Same problem here but figured it out: Drag the song from the Media Browser tab (after selecting iTunes at the top) at the bottom right when you open a new GarageBand project. Hope this helps you -- working perfectly for me!

Items dissapeared from iTunes, still on iPhone

Three purchases made on Dec 2007 (audiobooks) suddenly disappeared from iTunes (ver 9.0) Library. They are still on my iPhone 3Gs. I tried SYNC many times, Transfer purchases, etc but nothing works. Any idea on how to restore those files from the iPhone to iTunes? I even have copy of the original receipt from when I purchased those audio books at the iTunes store.

Since the tracks were still on my iPhone, I tried to force a transfer by selecting TRANSFER FROM IPHONE. That did not work, because in iTunes I had a "phantom" reference, that is the album tag info pointing to nowhere. So I removed those tracks from my iTunes library and then selected TRANSFER PURCHASES FROM IPHONE. That worked. the tracks were transferred from iPhone to iTunes .
In my case this specific album is no longer for sale in iTunes stre so not sure that had anything to do with it.
And right now I am running a backup of my iTunes purchases... something I never did in 4 years

About 100 songs/items missing from iTunes on new computer

I recently used Copytrans to transfer all my music from one computer to another. After a while of using the new computer, comparing it to the other computer, about 100 tracks/files were missing from iTunes. How can I find out what's happened to those missing files?

Do you know which songs are missing? If so, search and see if they were uploaded somewhere unexpected.
If you don't know which songs they are, I would compare your library to the old computer and just burn an mp3 CD of the songs you're missing.

I apologize to those readers who use this site "correctly" but I did not know how else to accomplish this.

Argh... Found that I cannot drag new playlists to the device icon that appears on the taskbar of itunes. If I display the playlists in itunes I can select 1 then scroll up to the my ipod where it appears further up the list and then drop the item into the ipod. This appears to be a great step forward for Itunes but you must drag and scroll the list to find your device one at a time as selecting items with the shift or ctrl buttons pressed has no effect.
Itunes at version 12+ you would think it would be easier not harder to load content.

I am having difficulty downloading items purchased from Itunes

I am presently attempting to download Lorax. Everytime the Itunes Extras download it goes to error once it begins processing. The other problem is Twilight Saga keeps downloading although it is already in my Itunes Library and this is everytime I download an item. Please advise.

My apple TV will not let me purchase items direct from iTunes and I am logged in. why?

I have nmot been able to rent a movie from my apple TV. I am logged into iTunes. When I try and rent a movie it tells me that I need to varify payment on my computer. I have then rented a movie from my PC but this will not show up on my apple TV, and indeed the "rented Movie" option is not in my movies list. I have the latest version of softeware, 3.02, and have tried resharing the library. No Joy

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check you are using the correct location in the Apple TV store settings.
Try changing a few details and changing them back before updating when you verify in iTunes, also check that your details are correct (ie that you have filled the state field out properly and so on)
Rentals don't just show up on the Apple TV when you have rented then on your mac/PC,you need to transfer them.

IPod's music library only shows items purchased from iTunes store?

I'm really frustrated because I've only had this iPod since Christmas and it's already giving me grief.
My iPod is synced with 918 songs:
However, my music library on the device itself only displays 65, as seen here:
These songs are ones I've purchased from the iTunes store. All other songs on the device have to be manually searched for from the Home screen, and if you ask me this is kind of ridiculous. It'd be nice if, y'know, I could use my iPod to actually listen to my songs with ease, as is its purpose in the first place??
I've resynched numerous times and reset it.
What the heck am I doing wrong?

I would add it to your iTuned book library and sync to the iP{oad. It will go to iBooks unless it has special DRM.

I don't know about VAT receipts, you'd have to contact Support to ask about that.
