Items Not In my Library vs Playlist xml Match

Hi All,
I have two theoretically identical iTunes libraries on two different machines, the only difference being compression: one library is lossy and one is lossless. The number of tracks in both libraries is the same and there are no dead tracks. When I use home sharing to show "items not in my library" nothing pops up on either machine.
In order to keep all my playlists synched across the two libraries when I add tracks to a playlist on one machine, I will export xml of the playlist, import to the other library and compare the two with a smart playlist. There are certain playlists that always throw the "itunes cannot find all of these tracks" error, but if I use Home Sharing and look at the playlist on the other machine and select "items not in my library," there aren't any.
There also seems to be a difference between how the two libraries "view" duplicates, which may have something to do with it (or not), but this difference only manifests itself with playlists. When I "view duplicates" the number is the same, but when adding tracks to a playlist via the above method the smart playlist on one machine or the other will think that a track is already there when it's not, and it won't get picked up as not being on the playlist being updated or won't make it onto the playlist that the update is coming from.
Both versions of iTunes are 12.0.1.26, both Macs running 10.9.5 (one 2 year old MB Pro, one 2 year old iMac).
Any reason anybody can see why this would be happening? Any suggestions for how to achieve these results in a less labor-intensive way?
I = all ears.
Jack

Ha! Uncanny! How the **** did you know about Teddybear's Picnic? It's just the play counts, I don't use ratings and I've pretty much appended everything else to the tracks themselves. I'm pretty close to having listened to both libraries all the way through (at least one "play" each). Once I get there I won't care about play counts any more, but I'd hate to bail out on the project now.
I just think it's odd that one library sees a track as missing from a playlist but not missing from the library and wonder why that might be, or if there's some heretofore unknown preferences controlling what counts as duplicate information in what instance.

  • ITunes 10.6.1, Home sharing: Show: Items not in my Library

iTunes Home sharing's feature to only show items not in my library used to work great, allowing me to keep my main iMac library and my MacBook Pro library synced. But just recently, my main library can no longer seem to sort out what items are unique in connected libraries -- it only shows the books that I don't have. Doesn't display movies, tv, music that aren't unique. I get the whole libary but once I press "Items not in my Libary" it doesn't work properly. What's odd is that I'm fine the other way. My MacBook Pro has no problems with the "Items not in my Library" selection when looking at my iMac's library.
Has anyone noticed change for the worse in the behavior of Home Sharing with respect to showing items not in the local library? I've tried turning Home Sharing off, rebooting both computers, and then turning Home Sharing on. But that doesn't fix it.

  • Show Items Not in My Library Not Working

So I'm trying to transfer my library from an old computer to my new one via Home sharing, and I downloaded my rather large library onto the new computer, yet for some reason songs were still missing. So I went to the "Show items not in my library."
In that tab, was my entire old library, both songs that I already had in the new library and the missing files.
Now I'm not going to go through a 6k library and pick out which songs individually I am missing on my new library  because it would take forever.
Why is the "Items not in my library" tab showing my entire old library when most of it is on my new one?
    Any resolutions to this?

  • Home Sharing and Show Items not in my Library

I was very excited to finally be able easily sync up the iTunes libraries on my new home mini and my laptop, I was even more excited by the "Items not in my Library" option... but I seem to be having a issue it, that is probably a bug, and I'm wondering if others are seeing it too in 9.0.2:
I transferred over an album no problem, then I went to transfer a setlist of live tracks by the same artist. Because it's live, many of the song names are the same. I had the *Show Items not in my Library* option selected and it hid (and thus didn't transfer) some of the tracks. I later realized that it had hidden the tracks that had the same name as the original album, even though they are quite different.
I hope others experience this same issue and Apple will release an update fixing it. This issue will make it impossible to realiably synchronize libraries as they change.
BTW - I've also noticed if you choose *Show: All items* and import a file that is a real duplicate it will copy it over and append a "1" creating a duplicate as opposed to replacing or updating the file.
    Thanks,
    =Blair

The import button remains greyed out and therefore unavailable.
Quickly doublechecking ... has the MacBook gone to sleep? If it's awake, does the Import button become active for you?

  • TS2972 In the new itunes, I can't see "items not in my library" using home sharing

In new itunes, I can't see "items not in my library" using home sharing

Yup, the new itunes is worthless unless every song you have is in your itunes library as well. (unless you buy every song from itunes this is simply impossible)  Apparently Apple threw away the feature in an effort to force everyone to purchase their media through itunes.  This is probably the worst idea about the new Itunes, the only way to go back is to restore your computer to a time before you downloaded the new version, otherwise wait and hope the next version in a year or so will have it.

  • HT3819 ITunes 11.1.5. Home Sharing is on, but there is no import button or the drop down to select "items not in my library".

We been using home sharing for a few years, but after upgrading to iTunes 11.1.5, the import button is no longer at the bottom of the screen and neither is the selction window to pick "items not in my library". Has this functionality been moved somewhere else?

I finally got this to work. I had to click "File...Home Sharing" and make sure the the same Apple ID is on the computer I want to drag music from and also on the computer I want to drag music to. It's that simple.

  • Movies from another computer do not show up in items not in my library

From one computer to another, all items show up in Home sharing, however when I switch to items on my computer only, nothing shows up even though there are item that should.

Please see this article on how to move your bookmarks and settings from one computer to another: [[Moving your Firefox bookmarks and settings]].

  • Why isn't my status bar showing for the home sharing? Neither the settings or 'show items not in my library' button are not coming up.

  • How do use home sharing to import items from other iTunes library?

Okay - the help section in iTunes is not helpful.  I am trying to import items from my girlfriend's library and vice versa.  We have home sharing turned on.  I can see her library and she can see mine.  According to the HELP section, I should be able to choose a cateogry i.e. MUSIC.  Then there is supposed to be a "Show" menu at the bottom of the iTunes window and I should choose "items not in my library" then select the items I want to import and click import.
PROBLEM:  I can choose a category but there is no SHOW Menu at the bottom of the iTunes window which allows me to select items and import them into my library.
    Suggestions???

Well I guess I am not sure now that you asked.
In ITunes - under "Preferences" I have Sharing turned on so it says sharing my library on local network.
    AND
In ITunes - under "File" I have Home Sharing turned on.
    Does this answer your question?

  • Home Sharing no longer allows me to see items not on this computer

My wife and I use the same Apple ID for our purchases, and we have separate iTunes libraries on separate computers. The "automatic copy" feature does a good job of keeping our content in sync between the computers, but occasionally I need to manually copy files (for example, when I buy a CD and import the songs into my iTunes account ... these are not automatically copied).
Previously, when I clicked on my wife's library, there was an option at the bottom to view "all items" or "items not in this library". I no longer see this option. I don't use this regularily, so I'm not exactly sure when it disappeared for me.
Is it supposed to be there in iTunes 10.6.3?
    Thanks,
    Ron
p.s. We're still using "Lion" and not "Mountain Lion". iTunes and the OS are up to date on both of our computers.

Never mind ... I just figured out that "Home Sharing" somehow got turned off on my wife's computer. With Home Sharing turned off, the shared library becomes "Music Sharing" instead which allows you to view the music (which looks like home sharing), but without some of the more advanced options like viewing files not in this library, or automatic copying of new content.

  • Cant see whats not in my library with shared accounts

    Nvm found the problem

    Hello Grant
yes it is at the bottom ,right side. But only if you are connected/looking at another shared library.
To select shared librarys use top left "house icon"
then you have the option of selecting All items or Items not in my library.
my issue is the Movies library not displaying the correct information when you select, "Show items not in my library"

  • Push Mail item-not-found

As of today I managed to work out a totally new error with push notifications. In my mail-log the following appears:
    Jan 19 15:01:57 mymachine push_notify[83]: error:
    +<iq id='10009' to='[email protected]/push_notify' type='error' from='pubsub.osxserver.example.com' xmlns='jabber:client'>+

So my machine tells me that an item was not found, but which one? It looks like I'm just a tiny step behind push....
BTW I read a lot about DNS. Do I really need to enter pubsub.osxserver.example.com into my DNS? Right now only osxserver.example.com is entered. DNS is completely managed by the same machine.

That should work okay, I would suggest you enable tracing and post a Trace of one of your requests and responses. That should better tell what's happening

  • Delete Library items NOT in any playlist?

Is there any way to delete every file from my iTunes Library which is not used in any current playlist?

    Hey jasontoew,
    Sure!
    (well, with some work)
What you need is a Smart Playlist
Create one using File>New Smart Playlist
Then set selection options to Comment field > contains > In playlist (type it in)
Make sure live updating is checked
Next, add comments to multiple items (songs, audiobooks, etc)
On PC use the control key to select multiple items
On the Mac, use Apple (a.k.a "Command") key
Then from the File menu choose "Get Info"
At the prompt: Are you sure you want to edit information for multiple items? click yes
Add a comment to the comment field (i.e, same thing you entered while setting up the Smart Playlist)
You are done. Now click on the smart playlist, it should contain all items with " In playlist" in comments field
Someone may have created a program that automates this, but, I think this may be helpful to you as a start
    Hope this helps,
    Generik

You can only transfer music from itunes to your devices and not the other way round.

  • How to tell which items are in iTunes library on disc but not in program library?

I made a mistake the other night and I deleted some items from my iTunes library ... but NOT from disc.
These items are still in my 65 gig iTunes library on disc.  Somewhere.
I'd like to re-add these songs.  Is there any way to tell which songs in the iTunes library on disc are not in the iTunes program library?
I don't want to have to add all 65 gigs again and then remove all the duplicates
    thanks!

You should try dragging some files already in the library into iTunes to see what happens. I just did, and the new iTunes 10.6 seems to be ignoring them. I then made a copy of a file already in the library, and I added both it and the original by dragging and dropping. Only the new file was added. There was no warning about duplicates in either test. So you may be able to drag your whole library back into iTunes.
For when you do want to determine what files on disk aren't in the iTunes library or vice versa, here's one way to do it (if there's an easier way, I'm all ears):
Export your library as a playlist to a text file.
Use a program that can recursively list all your files on disk as full paths and save its output to a text file.
Load the into a decent text editor. I use Notepad++. Then use a regexp search/replace to tidy up the files so that both consist of one fully qualified filename per line.
    Sort the files.
Diff the files and examine the differences.
    I can do both 4 and 5 in Notepad++.
