Iterator interface, how to implement?

Hi,
I'm working on an assignment, but I can't really understand one thing. In the following few lines I'll try to describe the situation.
I have a class which has a TreeMap of Objects. These Objects have there own variables etc... and are comparable.
Now I need to implement an interface which makes it possible to iterate over the objects in the TreeMap.
And I need to add some functions like:
getCurrent() (where does the pointer stands at this moment)
getNbElements() (how many elements are there after the current position of the pointer)
advance() (put the pointer one position further, like next() but without the return)
reset() (put the pointer back at the first element)
I have no idea how to implement this, do I need to create a seperate class which is the iterator ?
I hope someone can clear some things up, I don't need a solution, just a way of thinking.
Thanks in advance.

He can implement them by implementing them. I thank the gods you're not a pathologist

  • How to implement XI interfaces in online and offline modes?

    Hi Everybody,
    Can you please tell me how to implement XI interfaces in online and offline modes?
    thanks a lot,

    Hi,
    Are you looking for Push and Pull mechanism of PI?
    When the adapters like SOAP, HTTP, IDOC, etc. send the data to PI , it is nothing but a push mechanism, and hence the communication is synchronous by default.
    But adapters like JDBC, File, etc. they fetch the data from Source Applications, so it is a kind of Pull mechanism for PI, and
    by default communication is asynchrnous.
    Pls elaborate exactly what are you looking for?

    Around 32,000 (although the class file has a 16 bit

  • How to implement paging in webdynpro jave based on search criteria.

    Hi All,
    In a requirement I need to implement paging in webdynpro java development.
    I successfully did it when there is no search criteria is available i.e webdynpro fetched all data from the BO object and I did it using a "indexNO" (unique serial no from 1,2,3,4.....) field available in BO object.
    But when there is search criteria available , i.e the data to be fetched from the BO based on some specific field , at that time the "indexNo"  field of all data fetched based on search criteria are discrete i.e not continious. In that case how to implement the paging concept.

    Hi,
    If you go to your VO and generate the ViewObjectImpl, in there you can create a method which will contain two parameters, 1 the attribute name and 2 the value.
    Then you can follow something like explained in this post:
    ADF Tutorial: How to apply bulk actions to a view object rows
    The only difference is that you will need to create a method like this:
    public void updateAttribute(String attribute, Integer value){
            RowSetIterator iter = createRowSetIterator(null);
            while (iter.hasNext()){
                Row row = iter.next();
                row.setAttribute(attribute, value);
    Then you expose that as a client interface and then after you filter your table by your criteria you just need to execute this method passing the right parameters.

  • Iterator Interface.A question please.

    I am unable to grasp the meaning of the following below :
    As we all know,Interfaces have abstract methods,(ie methods that
    have no body) and any class that implements the Interface has to
    implement the methods defined in the interface.That is,write the body for those methods.
    So far so good.
    Now coming to Collections called Vector.
    We have the 'Iterator' interface implemented by the vector class.
    The Iterator interface has the methods hasNext(),next().
    and we have the following code in the our class which iterates thru'
    the vector:
    MyClass item;
    while(iter.hasNext())
    item = (MyClass)iter.next();
    // Do something here.....
    Now we are using the methods hasNext() and next() above.
    But as they belong to the Iterator interface,(which means they
    are basically methods with no implementations) then how is iteration
    possible? We havent defined anything in the hasNext() method or the next()
    so how does Java automatically start iteration
    Has any one understood my question?Arent hasNext() and next() supposed
    to be methods with no body???
    If I am saying iter.hasNext(),that means hasNext() has been defined
    somewhere to iterate thru the vector?
    I am just confused regarding this issue as to how is hasNext() and next()
    being implemented as I as the programmer have not implemented them
    in my code
    Please can some one answer my question?

    Thanks Will.
    Regarding the question,then why define an Iterator interface when
    the collection class implements the functionality?
    Why not define the methods hasNext() and next() in the Object
    class?
    So by default,all classes extends the Object class ,we
    cud use the hasNext() and next() method?
    No??? Or am I wrong?

    Thanks for yr reply.
    So you mean to say the the Iterator methods hasNext()
    and next()
    are being implemented by the Vector class.right?Not exactly. The Vector class defines an inner class, and it is this class that implements the Iterator interface, and so these two methods. When you write code like
    Vector myVector = new Vector();
    // code to fill myVector...
    Iterator it = myVector.iterator();the call to the iterator() method tells myVector to give you an instance of this inner class. The Vector class itself doesn't implement next() or hasNext().
    Then why define an interface with these methods at
    all?
    Why not give concrete bodies to these methods and put
    them in
    the Object Class.If you did that, then all classes would inherit them - all classes would be iterators. That wouldn't make sense, though, as clearly not all classes are meant to be used to iterate over collections of objects.
    Iterator is an interface so that a consistent API can be defined for iteration. As iterators are used in lots of different places, it is very helpful to have all of them guaranteed to have next() and hasNext() methods (amongst others). It is also very helpful to be able to call the iterator() method on any Collection class and know that the object that is returned, regardless of its implementation, will be of type Iterator.
    Then we can call them polymorphically.???But that's what you're doing - Vector and ArrayList (for example) have different implementations of Iterator, but code that iterates over them doesn't need to know that. As both return objects that implement the Iterator interface, they are interchangeable; that's polymorphism at work.

    public Iterator iterator()
    Returns an iterator over the elements in this list in proper sequence.
    This implementation returns a straightforward implementation of the iterator interface, relying on the backing list's size(), get(int), and remove(int) methods.
    Note that the iterator returned by this method will throw an UnsupportedOperationException in response to its remove method unless the list's remove(int) method is overridden.
    This implementation can be made to throw runtime exceptions in the face of concurrent modification, as described in the specification for the (protected) modCount field.
    Specified by:
    iterator in interface List
    Specified by:
    iterator in class AbstractCollection
    Returns:
    an iterator over the elements in this list in proper sequence.
    See Also:
    modCount
    So based on the above JavaDoc for java.util.AbstractList, which Vector sub-classes, the iterator() method returns an implementaion of the iterator interface. This is where the methods are defined.

  • Can't Figure Out How To Implement IEnumerable T

    I have no problem implementing IEnumerable but can't figure out how to implement IEnumerable<T>. Using the non-generic ArrayList, I have this code:
    class PeopleCollection : IEnumerable
    ArrayList people = new ArrayList();
    public PeopleCollection() { }
    public IEnumerator GetEnumerator()
    return people.GetEnumerator();
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    PeopleCollection collection = new PeopleCollection();
    foreach (Person p in collection)
    Console.WriteLine(p);
    I'm trying to do the same thing (using a List<Person> as the member variable instead of ArrayList) but get compile errors involving improper return types on my GetEnumerator() method. I start out with this:
    class PeopleCollection : IEnumerable<Person>
    List<Person> myPeople = new List<Person>();
    public PeopleCollection() { }
    public IEnumerator<Person> GetEnumerator()
    throw new NotImplementedException();
    IEnumerator IEnumerable.GetEnumerator()
    throw new NotImplementedException();
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    // Create a PeopleCollection object.
    PeopleCollection peopleCollection = new PeopleCollection();
    // Iterate over the collection.
    foreach (Person p in peopleCollection)
    Console.WriteLine(p);
    Console.ReadLine();
    That code compiles (basically because I haven't really done anything yet), but I get compile errors when I try to implement the GetEnumerator() methods.

    The List<T> class implements the IEnumerable<T> interface, so your enumerator can return the GetEnumerator call from the list.
    class PeopleCollection : IEnumerable<Person>
    List<Person> myPeople = new List<Person>();
    public PeopleCollection() { }
    public IEnumerator<Person> GetEnumerator()
    return myPeople.GetEnumerator();
    IEnumerator IEnumerable.GetEnumerator()
    return myPeople.GetEnumerator();
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    // Create a PeopleCollection object.
    PeopleCollection peopleCollection = new PeopleCollection();
    // Iterate over the collection.
    foreach (Person p in peopleCollection)
    Console.WriteLine(p);
    Console.ReadLine();

  • How to implement Strategy pattern in ABAP Objects?

    Hello,
    I have a problem where I need to implement different algorithms, depending on the type of input. Example: I have to calculate a Present Value, sometimes with payments in advance, sometimes payment in arrear.
    From documentation and to enhance my ABAP Objects skills, I would like to implement the strategy pattern. It sounds the right solution for the problem.
    Hence I need some help in implementing this pattern in OO. I have some basic OO skills, but still learning.
    Has somebody already implemented this pattern in ABAP OO and can give me some input. Or is there any documentation how to implement it?

  • How to implement an independent static stub client ? Please, help

    Hi everybody!
    I'm using the jwsdp1.2 and i got the static stub tutorial client to test my webservice. It works fine! However, i tried to compile the client code separately and it didn't worked. The jvm can't find the webservice class. So, the questions are:
    - How to implement an independent static stub whithout the ant help?
    - How can the client get the endpoint to create the proxy?
    - Must I use any javax.xml.rpc interface (call or service maybe) to do the job?
    - Could anybody show me some sample code?
    Well, that's it. I'm waiting for some answer. Please, help me.
    Tks in advance,
    Rodrigo.

    Can you explain what you mean by "independent static stub" ?
    JWSDP Tutorial explains all the steps required to create a static stubs client and invoke the service. In addition, https://jax-rpc.dev.java.net/whitepaper/1.1/index-part2.html#Scenario2 explains the detailed steps to achieve the same from command line.

  • How to implement Oracle DWH using JDBC

    Hello,
    i'm new to the Oracle database and i'm wondering how to implement a DWH Core or Datamart System using Oracle 11g Express. How can i "switch" a relational oracle database to a dimensional one, preparing it for OLAP/BI queries´, preferably using the JDBC interface ?
    Thanks a lot!

    An good introduction to Oracle OLAP is found on the OTN site: Oracle OLAP.
