ITIN for a Canadian

Hello,
I am  a Canadian author and I am interested in publishing with ibooks, but am having difficulty getting a US tax number (ITIN).  The IRS will not issue a number unless ibooks is willing to write a letter stating that they are the withholding agent.
The particular passage reads:
1(d) Individuals who are receiving distributions during the current tax year of income such as pensions, annuities, rental income, royalties, dividends, etc., and are required to provide an ITIN to the withholding agent (for example, an investment company, insurance company, or financial institution, etc.) for the purposes of tax withholding and/or reporting requirements.
1(d) A signed letter or document from the withholding agent, on official letterhead, showing your name and verifying that an ITIN is required to make distributions to you during the current tax year that are subject to IRS information reporting or federal tax withholding.
Does anyone know if ibooks will send such a letter so I can get the ITIN and up load my book to ibooks and, if so, who do I contact?  I'm sure if I am having an issue with this, that there are plenty of other non-US citizens who will have the same problem.  At the moment it is a Catch 22 situation.
Thanks,
Canauthor

Your question about map download has already been answered.  What I wanted to add was that the biggest issue you may run into is that depending on where you buy your phone from, the product code will dictate when you receive firmware upgrades for your device.  That may leave you possibly 3 -  6 months behind the earliest release of the firmware.   For example, in the US the firmware for the 5800 is typically 3-4 months behind the first release.  If you're patient, this may not be an issue.

The default about:home page in Firefox 4 doesn't give such features. You can set the home page to http://www.google.ca to get that possibility. The results page has a "Pages from Canada" link in the side menu at the left.

  • ITunes card purchased in states is not working for my Canadian registered iPad... Help!

I Bought my iPad In the US but I think I registered it with a Canadian address... I am in Florida and just bought iTunes cards and it's saying code is not valid, something about a US storefront.
Is there any way around this? Thanks!

    Hello mmulder618,
I would recommend trying to download the songs again from your list or purchased songs on the iPhone.  As long as you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase the songs, you will not be charged for the songs.
You can find the steps to do this under the section titled "Apps, Books, Music, Movies, or TV shows on iOS" in the following article:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
I also found an article to troubleshoot Home Sharing so that you can get that working:

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

  • Quicken 2010 for Windows (Canadian version) on a Mac

    Hello
I hope I am posting in the right forum - if not, perhaps someone could re direct me.
I am a former Mac user (Mac SE) who had to move to the PC Windows world because that what was used where I worked. Now that I am retired I would very much like to move back to Mac. However, while in the Windows world I became very dependent upon Quicken , so much so, that I can no longer get along without it.
Everything that I have read tells me that Quicken for the Mac is not the equal of Quicken for Windows. Intuit says there is a new Mac version coming along, but even this new version will not have the features that the Windows version has.
At the Apple store I am told that Quicken 2010 for Windows will run on the Mac using Parallels or VMware Fusion or Bootcamp. Bootcamp is not a viable solution for me as I would want to run Quicken concurrent with Mac apps. No one has been able to show me Quicken 2010 for Windows working on a Mac, nor have I been able to talk to anyone who has it working on her or his Mac.
So, I ask on this forum, does any one have Quicken 2010 for Windows working on their Mac? If so, have you experienced any problems or does it run just as it would on a Windows PC?
If I can get affirmation that this vital piece of software will work for me, I would buy an new iMac in an instant.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

According to the specs, it +Works with 32-bit Windows XP, 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista and Windows 7+. AFAIK, all of those work on a Mac. Act accordingly.

  • Next problem for Canadian orders - incompatible warranties being sold!

I received my T61p, and in a reasonable timeframe, so it looks like that issue is being fixed for the Canadian ordering system, but now I find that the warranty I was sold is "Not a compatible service product for the machine provided".
I, like many others, chose (and paid for) the option to upgrade to the 3 year on site warranty, as was made available on the ordering system, but received the above message in quotes back when I tried to register my warranty.
This problem has been documented over on Notebookreview
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As I reported on Notebookreview, I’ve encountered exactly the same problem.
In the first two months of this year, I spent considerable time trying to decide what kind of laptop to buy as a replacement for my aging desktop. I finally settled on a ThinkPad T61P.  A major factor was that, for several weeks the Lenovo Canada online configurator offered for $179 “3 Year EasyServ + 3 Year ThinkPad Protection for 3 Year EasyServ ThinkPad.” On February 29, I placed the order online with only a minimum of difficulty. My credit card was subsequently charged $1,704, including $179 for the service/support package.
A week ago, I learned through the Lenovo Services Registration that this package was deemed “incompatible” with my system. A phone call to customer service revealed the meaning of incompatibility – the configurator had been wrong at the time of purchase and even with “a 10 per cent discount” it would cost me an additional $200 plus to get the same level of support I thought I had already purchased.
As a semi-retired person on a fixed income, this was beyond my budget. I settled for three-years of in-depot warranty service, costing $10 more than I’d originally paid for a package combining this with accident protection.
The entire incident has left me feeling like the victim of a bait and switch. I can understand a company’s need to protect itself against errors on its website. But these particular mistakes were up on the site for several weeks, if not months, and must have been well-known to Lenovo sales staff. For this reason, they look less like an oversight than a marketing strategy. Certainly, they worked on me.

  • Power Map Locations for Canadian Postal Codes showing incorrectly

I see great potential in the possibilities of using Power Map. However the location for one Canadian postal code is showing incorrectly on the resulting map. I have verified that the postal code itself is correct and my data has been entered correctly and
    it is below:
    N6K 0B3
It is showing nowhere near where it is supposed to be. Users of the application have to have confidence that the mapping behind it is correct. I need to create maps for each poll for volunteers to retrieve
the signs post-election and don't want to send them to the wrong locations.
By the way, why is my font size changing if I modify the text in my post?
    Thanks,
    Lila

Ahh Geolocations are fun, aren't they!
Bing maps is showing N6K 0B3 as just south west of London, ON. Google maps shows it north of there, West of London. If Bing is not correct, you'd need to request a fix from Bing/Microsoft.
While you wait for that, you'd have to create your own kludge to correct it:
CASE WHEN postcode = 'N6K 0B3' THEN geography::Point(-81.437296,43.0041629,4326) ELSE bingsGeospatial as geoPoint
I was in talks with Canada Post regarding acquiring their geo location data for post codes a while ago. You can get a product from them for about 7500 a year. I was rather disappointed to find they only provided points, and not bounding boxes (as google
    maps does).

  • How can I pay for storage with a different account then iCloud

    Hi,
I used to live in Hong Kong, so my iCloud ID is under HK.
Recently I moved to Canada, so I made an account for the Canadian App Store, and only have a credit card on that account.
I wanted to buy 20GB on iCloud, but it's showing me the rates in HKD. How can I get it to pay with the CA account in CA rates? If this involves switching iClout account, how do I do it and how can I transfer the back up?
Also is it possible to pay using debit? I would much prefer to pay with debit.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Cheap SSD solution for Pismo (and other IDE/ATA laptops)

I have a Pismo 400 that is now relegated to web surfing duties for my children and not much else. The original Fujitsu 6 Gig hard drive was sounding more and more like farm machinery, so I thought I'd try a do it yourself solid state drive instead of picking up a laptop drive that'll never be filled up and is pretty much obsolete for any other purpose.
There's a store on eBay that sells adapters for Compact Flash memory cards so they can be plugged in as a 2.5" IDE hard drive. This places sells them for $5 Canadian with free shipping from Hong Kong, whereas in Canadian stores these are around $25. I ordered one and it came in about 10 days.
I went to a computer parts store and purchased the cheapest 8 Gig CF card listed as 133x. It came to just under $30 Cdn including taxes.
The adapter seems to have one more pin on the IDE side than the original drive (or the Mac socket has holes), but the socket on the Pismo has a rubber spacer (rather than hard plastic) so you just plug them in.
After a typical for Pismo exhausting 1-2 minute installation process, I fired it up. It didn't see the drive when I booted with an OS X 10.3 install disk. I suspect if I'd used the original OS 9 CD it would have found the drive, which was formatted FAT. I pulled the CF/IDE combo out and plugged it in to a USB/IDE adapter and formatted the card on my MacBook. Back in the Pismo the drive was found and I installed OS 9 and 10.3 and updated them to 9.2.2 and 10.3.9.
The card and adapter aren't attached to the Mac and just hang off the end of the ribbon cable in the drive cage. If I were hauling the Pismo around a lot I'd make up a foam wedge to keep it from moving too much.
I haven't done any speed tests. It runs Safari and doesn't feel any slower. Waking from sleep should be a lot quicker.
The nicest thing is the Pismo is now silent.
There are bigger and faster CF cards, but they cost a lot more.

I have been wanting to try this for a while, but not on my Pismo, Lombard or Wallstreet which all run OSX but on my older 3400 or 1400.
Would they work running OS8 or 9 on the CF card ?

  • File and folder permissions for Adobe Photoshop CS5

    Good day,
I am an IT specialist and I work for a Canadian governement agency and we are having an issue with Photoshop CS5. After successfully installing Photoshop CS5 from the Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium set(using a local machine administrator account), Photoshop crashes immidiatly after launching it(even with the local administrator account). The exact error message is as follows:
The instruction at "0x230dad8dc" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
I know this is an environement issue and not an application or hardware issue since I was able to successfully install and run Adobe Photoshop CS5 on a plain vanilla install of Windows SP3 XP on the same model of workstation(HP DC7800). This later also confirms it is not a RAM or video adapter issue either. My experience tells me it would be more related to file/folder permissions on the workstation(although I'm open to other suggestions).  Because we are a governement agency, our workstations have machine and user policies and desktop configurations that get applied to the workstations automatically upon joining our domain via GPOs and SMS. Certain system files and folder permissions may be locked down for security reasons therefor I was wondering is someone has a list of files and folders that Adobe CS5 needs access to upon startup in order to properly function?
If anyone would like more details or information please let me know and I'll try to be more specific.
Thanks in advance to all who take the time to read and help out!

I appreciate that you're trying to surmise what's different, and it's good that you have had success with similar/identical hardware.  At least you know it can work.
However, I wouldn't bet just yet that it's a permissions issue.  I'd think you should get a specific error if a locked-down file needed to be accessed, not a null pointer crash.  The Photoshop installer should be setting up the proper permissions on its own files for it to run.
Is it exactly the same video card as the other computer, on which Photoshop works?
Are you sure the video drivers are up to date with the same version as on the other computer?
At exactly what point during startup does the failure occur (i.e., is the splash screen showing, and what does the status line in the splash screen say it's doing)?

  • Output to NTSC format for DVD

    Hi,
I am from the UK, I filmed some DVCAM footage in PAL format, but bringing it into FCP to output onto NTSC and onto DVD for a Canadian conference / Broadcast.
Can i simply change my project and capturing settings to
get the footage to run at NTSC (even though it was filmed in PAL?)
And if i want a UK edit of the film do I need to recapture all my clips at PAL settings or can this be done via the DVD output???
    cheers
    Chris

Sadly no its not that simple not so much because the image sizes differ but more because of the difference in frame rates.
Your options after you input edit and master in PAL
Convert to NTSC using a transfer house
Convert to NTSC using Compressor (can be slow)
Convert to NTSC using Nattress' plug-ins (will cost you money but they work)
    http://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconversion.htm
Convert to NTSC using JES Deinterlacer (free and works)
    http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html#DEI
This will give you an NTSC Master to compress for DVD
