ITouch 1st gen OS 3.1.2 - missing touch volume control

Does anyone know if apple has made it possible to upgrade the 1st gen iTouch to OS 3.1.2 without losing the volume controls? I have read some people saying that they are missing volume controls and others just forgot to plug in their headphones. Does the iTouch volume control work on a 1st gen? I really hope that I don't have to upgrade hardware to get the new OS. Any help would be appreciated. Also, is it possible to downgrade firmware to a version that supports touch volume, if it's necessary?

I tried restarting my iPod Touch by holding down the top button until it gives the option to power off. This didn't seem to help, as there was still "no volume available", however, when I moved the iPod Touch from the dock and plugged the jack directly into the port, the volume control reappeared immediately, and when I moved it back to the dock, it stayed present and is still there now. Earlier today, when I used my headphones, there was also "no volume available", so perhaps power cycling did help?

That is not very likely as the antennae are different physical designs and fit will be an issue.

I have wanted to get a microphone to use my trusty iTouch 1st gen for voice memos. Since the 1st gen never came with a mic in the plug spot, McAlly and a few others made an adapter to input through the dock connector.
However Apple quickly changed the firmware from 2.0 to 3.0 and blocked this feature. Is there a work around for this issue. My 1st gen is a reliable unit and I would like to not have to buy another.

I figured it out. I had to sync iTouch 1G to Windows Contacts, import those to Windows Live Mail, export to a .CVS file, import to gmail contacts, sync gmail account wih iPod air...simple

Sorry, but I don't believe there is way that you can. You'll just have to make sure to read the minmium requirements of any App you are about to purchase to ensure that it is compatible and will run on your iPod Touch running iOS v3.1.3.

No. Apple said 3.1.3 is the highest for the 1G. The 1G does not have hardware to support a later iOS.

ITunes 10 not seeing iTouch 1st gen

The newest version of iTunes 10.5.0.142 is not seeing my 1st gen iTouch, so I can not sync it.

Downloaded iTunes again and reinstalled and now I get a "iTunes could not connect to this iphone because an unknown error occured 0XE8000065" I have tried swapping cords and a hard reset to no avial.
Does 10.5 even support 1st gen?

"Music Videos" under "Music" header on my 1st gen Apple TV menu is missing.

I no longer seem to have "Music Videos" under the "Music" header on my 1st gen Apple TV menu. This occurred about a month ago now (early October). Does anyone know why? I have worked with Apple Support and I have reset my device to factory settings to no avail...
I actually used this menu option often but I might have been the only person who did since I cannot find any information on it nor does anyone seem to know it even existed:)... I am more curious to find out what has happended now than expecting a fix for it.
I have had a rough couple months with my Apple products actually...:(

Having the same issues.....I have two 1st Gen Apple TVs and neither are showing on the Remote App on any of my devices as of Dec 24th. Everything is connected to the same network, have most recent updates to Remote App, software of devices, itunes. Rebooted router, computer, apple tvs....deleted the app, reinstalled...turned off wifi and homesharing, then turned back on and the Remote App will only find my itunes library and not the Apple TVs. Any help would be appreciated.

1st Gen IPod Touch Volume Controls won't come up after a few minutes

I've got a first gen IPod touch and ever since I upgraded to the OS 3 family I've had a problem where after a few minutes of playing a video, if I tap the screen to bring up the volume controls, nothing happens. If I tap the screen in the first few minutes, the controls come up fine but after a few minutes a screen tap does nothing. Returning to the home screen and re-launching the video player didn't work either. I was turning the unit off and back on to correct the problem but after reading that a new "feature" of OS 3 pertained to volume control and headphone detection I tried a new tactic. When the volume controls would not display, I unplugged my headphones (the video paused when I did this) and plugged the headphones back in and the volume controls display auto-magically and would appear on with a screen tap for a few minutes then I was back in the same situation. Is there anyway a setting could be created to disable headphone detection and the "features" that it brings? The headphones work fine when the volume controls won't display so it doesn't feel like a headphone problem. Thanks.

Except for your keyboard & mouse, disconnect all devices from your computer & repair disk & permissions from your Tiger DVD.
Repairing permissions from the Tiger DVD
Boot up from your Tiger Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
If Disk First aid is able to complete the repair now click on the "Repair permissions" button.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer.

Just updated my itouch 1st gen to 3.1.2... now it won't sync music.

So. I have a Asus computer with Windows 7.
My itouch is a 1st generation and today i decided to upgrade it. However it took like 10 tries.. and 7 hrs.
I got the apps on my itouch done and ready, however now it won't sync my pictures or my music. It states that it can't sync because "There is no picture folder".. and i'm not sure how that has to do with the music....
Please help. =)

3.5mm jack has become extremely loose. (iTouch 1st Gen.)

My 6 month-old iTouch has recently lost its left side audio output due to a faulty 3.5mm jack. I've kept very good care of it since I bought it and have made sure that said jack has not been exposed to any form of intense stress. I've talked with several others who have had their iTouch for much longer, yet they have not had this kind of trouble. With all this having been said... Should I be able to send it in for a replacement or a simple repair (under warranty)?

ITouch 1st Gen 8GB Won't Start and is not detected by any pc.

My iTouch was working fine, but few days before it stops working, it wasn't recognized by any computer but was charging fine.
Yesterday whereas I was listening music, the itouch shut off.
Now; it shows the apple logo and shut off.
I can't connect to pc, when I boot it on Recovery Mode,iTunes dont recognize it, my pc neither. No Bip No reaction.
What can I do ?

1st Gen, No sound?!?!

Hi guys, I just got my Itouch 1st Gen off ebay, plugged it into my computer, put my music onto it. Once id done all that I tried to play music. The ipod would say the music is playing, but no sound coming out, i tried multiple headphones and no sound. When im typing I can hear the clicks though? has anyone else had this problem?

Did that, could it possibly be becouse the ipod isnt up to date? Its version number is 1.1.5 (4B1) Im guessing this is like the iOS or something, and the latest iOS for 1st gen is 3.1.5 or something? Im just wondering if my itunes is up to date, but my ipod isnt, they could conflict?I cant figure out how to upgrade to the latest iOS I keep getting a dead link from apple.

I for one will NEVER buy another apple product. I cannot believe they did not build in some sort of support for gen 2 itouch's. People can spout off about moving forward but here I stand with a perfectly functioning Itouch and it's only good for a music player with no updates from here on out or a brick as far as buying apps.
