Itouch is empty

My itouch always worked perfectly. Then all of a sudden when I was listening to a song, the song stopped & everything in the itouch was gone. On the itouch screen appeared that picture with a blackground saying I have to connect my itouch with a usb to itunes. So I did that & I got a message saying: "itunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes. " So I press "okay" & press"restore."
Then I get a message saying"Are you sure you want to restore the iPod"ipod" to its factory settings? All of your media & other data will be...."etc. So I press the "Restore & Update" button.
then it says:
-extracting software
-preparing ipod for restore
-waiting for ipod: the white bar finishes loading up, under white apple logo, then it stays that way like its loading forever & ever.
-After I unplug it, then it says:" The iPod"iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occured(9)."
-In the end I tried to do it on a friends laptop & got the same results except on her computer it showed the error number as (28), & then again on my new laptop it showed error (9).
*I did this all on a brand new laptop, originally my music & stuff was on my old laptop in Canada that I do not have with me, since I'm away in Europe for a couple months.
*I installed the latest itunes.
*I restarted computer. Unplugged & plugged itouch in serveral times. I turned itouch off by holding the upper button & bottom one as instructed on Apple website.
*I tried removing itunes completely as instructed on the Apple website & that didnt work.
What should I do?
Thanks.

  • How can I delete the notification that I have an update on my settings? I don't want IOS 5.0.1

I did the update to version 5.0.1  When I realized that my iTouch was EMPTY, I panicked! I "desinstalled" the update and went back to the revious version, i.e., IOS 5.0.0. Nevertheless, everything was lost!  It took me several hours to download all my audiobooks from Audible to transfer them again to my iTouch (more than 200 books!), as well as all my music (2000+ songs). I couldn't make this by sync, so I had to do it manually!
Now I have a permanent red circle with a 1 inside in the right upper corner of "Settings".  I do not want the update, I want to stay with the old version. I cannot delete that notification, and, for some reason, my iTouch froze the other day, the screen was frozen, there was no way to go to any other apps or screen; I had to turn it off for some minutes and restart it.  Ever since, my iTouch has been very slow.

    Hello ashlyn888,
Based on your post it sounds like you would like to sync your iBooks content with your computer. I have located an article that may help you in this situation. While you can sync this data with your computer you can also use the sharing button to send PDFs using various sources:

  • 2nd gen, not syncing contacts with new mini

I have just moved from a G5 to a Mac mini, iTunes moved fine, when I notice my contact were not updating I told my 2nd gen iTouch to sync with the mini. Now my contact on the iTouch are empty, I can ad new with the iTouch the show on my mini.

What does this mean: " I can ad new with the iTouch the show on my mini."
What I suspect is that when you synced the iPod to the new computer iTunes erased the iPod and replaced its contents with what was in the library of the new computer.

  • I was trying to restore my itouch and when i pressed "restore" and then pressed "restore and update", another sign popped up saying "The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. The disk you are attempting is full. Removing files and empty the recycle bin

i was trying to restore my itouch because it showed on my itouch the itunes bar on top and the charger on bottom so i went on itunes and when i pressed "restore" and then pressed "restore and update", another sign popped up saying "The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. The disk you are attempting is full. Removing files and empty the recycle bin will free up additional space. What do I do?!?!?! please help me ASAP

    Hi
I followed this guy's instructions and it worked:
    http://evsiphone.blogspot.com/2009/05/iphone-iphone-could-not-be-restored.html
I did disable the security (AVG and Zone Alarm) when I tried on my own PC. My wife's laptop which eventually got it working also uses AVG and Zone Alarm but on an XP O/S whereas my PC is Vista - maybe this is why.
    Cheers for you help.

  • HT4859 itunes backed up my music and emptied my itouch

itunes backed up my music and emptied my itouch, what do I do?

Back it up. While uninstalling and reinstalling it doesn't normally affect the library, other things, such as drive failures, can.

  • Itunes music empty, won't synch with itouch unless it erases the itouch, Itunes music empty, won't synch with itouch unless it erases the itouch

I had to re-install iTunes, and now it will only synch with my itouch by erasing all of the music on the itouch. How do I get my music library back onto iTunes?

just updated all software on my comp & it worked.

  • Itouch "full" with 14 GB empty

Just got a new MacBook and moving my 16 GB itouch from my Dell to it. Restored it fully and selected three playlists I wanted on the itouch. In itunes, I have clicked "sync music" and then "selected playlists". I have also clicked "sync only checked songs and videos" The playlists amount to about 2 GB of music. When it goes to synch, the apps update no problem. When I it gets to the music I get "" The iPod cannot be synched because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items on the selected play lists." It appears to still be trying to load all of my library even though I clicked not to. Any help would be appreciated.

also, what does the bar say on the overview screen? (the one that tells you how much space different types of media is taking up on your iPod) is 'Other' more than a couple of hundred mb? could indicate a file corruption which will need a restore to fix.

  • ITouch says its fully charged when its empty

Ok so I plug in my ipod because its in the red. It makes the bloop charging noise, but the battery has the fully charged 100% plug icon! and it doesnt seem to charge just drains and dies. Sometimes it charges and sometimes it doesnt, but today it did not at all and even though it was plugged in, it ran out of battery and is now dead. Wont even turn on Help? Or is it gone for good

Hi. A reset may help. Push and hold the Sleep/On/Off button and the Home button for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release buttons.

  • My photos will not sync to my Apple TV (1st generation), ipad, iphone, or itouch. They used to be there but upon recent syncs with all devices they have all gone. I am totally baffled as I have not changed settings?

My photos will not sync to my Apple TV (1st generation), ipad, iphone, or itouch. They used to be there but upon recent syncs with all devices they have all gone. I am totally baffled as I have not changed settings?

I had the same thing happen to me.  It's a bug in iPhoto 9.4.2.
The first time you run iPhoto after upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2, it "updates the iPhoto library".  This sometimes tickles a bug where iTunes can see all your iPhoto albums, but iTunes thinks they are empty.  Since iTunes thinks all your albums are empty, it dutifully deletes any photos from your synced iOS devices.
It's easy to tell if this is the problem you are seeing.  Open iTunes and go to the photos sync panel for one of your iOS devices.  If you have multiple albums checked, but iTunes shows a total of 0 photos, then you have the problem.
I spent an hour with an Apple Genius.  he couldn't find any mention of this problem in their internal support system.  His recomendation was to reinstall the operating the system.  I suspect that this won't solve it.
The only solution I have found is to restore iPhoto 9.4.1 and the corresponding iPhoto library from your backups.
I would refrain from upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2 until Apple has a fix for this issue.

  • My iTouch still doesn't show up in iTunes after the latest update...

About maybe 1-2 weeks ago? I updated my iTunes to version 10.1.1.4 since I haven't updated it in A LONG time, then by the moment I finished updating, my iTouch's icon/option doesn't show up in iTunes anymore (before it was all fine).
And an annoying message will keep showing up, with the messages:
    Title: Microsoft Windows
    "MobileDeviceService has stopped working
Windows can check online for a solution to the problem."
-> Check online for a solution (recommended) *which I clicked, and no help*
    -> Close
I have tried connecting my iTouch to my other USB port on my PC, reinstalling iTunes, system restore (tried to get back to the oldest version I used, but failed).
Out of solution, I waited for a new update to come, and it's here, version 10.1.2.17.
But everything is still the same!! (And yes, I have repeated the possible solution I have tried before for the 10.1.1.14 version)
While I asked for some helps on the internet, some people suggested me to reset my iTouch, because they think maybe something in there is broken or corrupted. But if I do reset it and the problem is still unsolved, I'll end up with an empty iTouch that can't sync anything at all...And I still need to use it everyday for internet purpose or whatnot...so I still didn't reset it yet...

Just wanted to say that you're not the only one with the problem: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=13009436

  • Itouch turns down for no reason

I was running on a track and all of a sudden my 64 gb iTouch 3g turns all the way down. I take out the head phones and just try the speaker, same thing. I check to see if the volume control on the side is stuck, it is not. Then I reset it see if that works, nope. It was probably around 85 defrees, 70% humidity and I a a rather sweaty person, but I have been running with it like this before, and with perview models, but never had anything like this happen. Any ideas?

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.
This diagnostic procedure will query the system log for messages that may indicate a hardware fault. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.

  • New itunes installation with old itouch - cant sync without deleting - HELP

    hey guys...
after a recent virus went through my pc, a friend had to delete heaps of programs and itunes was one of them. unfortunately he didnt back up my music, and now i have just re-downloaded the new version of itunes and my 2000 songs have gone!
they are all still on my itouch - but i cant even play them now through my pc - is there anything i can do??
    thanks!

If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
If at any point you get a message that your iPod is linked to another library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
Once you are safely connected, if you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to the iPod and iPhone. However there are a few third party utilities that are advertised as iPhone and iPod Touch compatible which can be used to retrieve the music files and playlists etc. Have a look at the web sites and help pages for these ones and see what you think or check the web for reviews:
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

  • Itouch does not recover - error 1611

    I bought a new itouch.
When switching on: The black screen with the white apple appeared,
but only for a few seconds, then it disappeared.
Trying to recover using reset and re-installing the software caused the
error described in the apple help docs:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307219(1611)
None of the methods described here (and in the referenced articles)
    worked.
My interpretation: For one reason or the other, the battery is completely
empty. It does not charge as the software necessary is not working (therefore
I need to recover). Recovering does not work as the battery is empty ... .
Help from apple is urgently needed here as there are many similar complaints.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
These are user-to-user forums only. Apple input is rare.
If you have worked through all those documents and still had no luck with the iPod touch then I would advise contacting AppleCare and speaking to Apple direct for further guidance.
In the meantime I would update your system (i.e. to 10.4.11, make sure you ahev iTunes 7.5 etc) and work through these troubleshooting steps too:

Let us know how you get on. Merry Christmas.

It doesn't say empty, it looks like it should when you go to songs, but there arnt any songs it's just blank. I tried to put music on it again but it does the same thing. It's like that with videos to. I have turned it off and back on many times too. PLease help!!!

  • What's changed between the the 3GS iPhone and the iTouch?

Got a 3GS iPhone to replace my iTouch, but here's what no one ever told me...
I always synced my iTouch at home ( Mac G5 ) , where my full iTunes library resides on an external drive. I used to take my iTouch to my work computer in my office ( Mac G5 ) hook the USB connector to that computer and charge my iTouch and play songs through my big loud computer stereo system. No songs or iTunes data is on my computer at work. It is a work computer. Both machines are set to manually manege everything, and automatic syncing is turned off in the prefs of both iTunes apps.
My new iPhone, however, will not let me play the songs on my work computer. It geys the songs out, and only if I sync it with my empty iTunes library will it let me get to the songs I have loaded on the iPhone, which are ALL SONGS I HAVE PURCHASED CD's of and and made mp3's.
It seems Apple is now dictating how my legitimately purchased music is being used as well.. Is this true, or am I missing something?
If this is a new DRM nonsense built into the iPhone, well fine. Then tell me where I can get a dock that charges the iPhone and has audio and video cables to hook up to my stereo/AV amp directly.
I tried an earlier dock model that worked on he iTouch, but the 3GS iPhone said it wasn't compatible for playing or charging.
Love the phone, but, come on here... Thanx -KK

Well, I can see how this could work, but It presents a problem for me. A) My iTunes library is approaching 100 gig, and b) I only want to sync up in one location. I know that the external drive can be that location, but...
Here's the thing. I also am a stubborn guy, and when I spend as much money on compter stuff as I do ( I'm surrounded by it ) I don't always want to feel that I need to invent a workaround because I don't fit into the traditional sales model.. I know this is a bit dousche-ie about this, but my big point is that Apple is now telling my how I can use my legitimately purchased music. It makes me want to go out and pirate stuff just out of spite. But instead, I'll play by the rules and that buys me the God given right to ***** about little things like spending more money for a device and getting less service back in return!
I think the dock will work OK for me, but thanks for the feedback.
    SoapBox now put away...
