  • IPhone 3G randomly plays song list, can't stop it

My iPhone 3G has recently stopped playing albums or playlists sequentially. It goes into a random shuffle mode, though there isn't any apparent icon that states it's in random mode. How do I stop this so I can listen an album straight through?

I have the very same problem. As does a friend who recently purchased a new iPod Touch.
When I look at the screen and compare it to the iPod instruction manual, I can see that there's a line of controls missing. Under the scrubber/volume bar, there are NO Repeat/Shuffle/Genius buttons. So we can't turn shuffle on or off while playing a song/album.
All my software is update to date in iTunes and on my iPhone. Has anyone else had this problem? It's really, really annoying not to be able to play an album all the way through.

  • How to randomly fill songs to ipod/itouch

I would like iTune to randomly fill songs to my iTouch like the IPOD Shuffle. My problem is if I checked the option to automatically fill songs to my iTouch, it always update with the same songs and that is the same 400 songs out of my over 2000 collection.

    Okay.
Just for information though (and for the benefit of other readers), the basic idea is create a Smart Playlist (a controlling Playlist) that includes the music you want to remove temporarily. So the first rule would be (for example) Genre / is / pop. The second rule is Last Played / is not in the last / 3 months for example. After a song is played, it is removed from that Playlist for a period of three months. After that, it is automatically put back into the Playlist again.
If you Sync only selected Playlists and choose that (controlling) Smart Playlist, then the contents of the Playlist will be the only music on your iPod. (When choosing these options - with the iPod connected and you looking on the iPod/Music pane, you can specifically Sync particular artists, albums etc. So any album for example can be made to stay on the iPod all the time, in spite of the controlling Playlist rules.)
Note though; if the music is recently added to iTunes, it will be in the Recently Added Smart Playlist. If you allow the Recently Added Playlist to Sync with your iPod, then the songs will stay on the iPod because they are also in the Recently Added Playlist.
Likewise, (and more importantly), after being played, songs are added to the Recently Played Playlist. If that Playlist is allowed to Sync with your iPod, then once again the songs will stay on the iPod. This could be a good thing; the Recently Played time is two weeks. So once a song has been played, it will stay on the iPod for two weeks, so if you feel like playing a song several times in a short pereiod, it will still be on the iPod. But after two weeks, it it hasn't been played, it's dropped from the Recently Played Playlist as well, and therefore removed from the iPod. With your controlling Smart Playlist set at three months, the songs will be removed from the iPod for 10 weeks.
If a song stays on your iPod when you don't expect it to, then there will be a Playlist somewhere that's causing that. You simply have to find it and modify the rules to make it do what you want.
If this method doesn't remove enough songs from the iPod, simply lengthen the exlcusion time to four, five or more months. You can also reduce the Recently Played time if you wish. Or exclude more songs; you can do this by genre or even by time.
A slightly rushed explanantion. If you need more help, ask.

  • "Random" play doesn't work, stops after each song; multiple plays of same

One of the more annoying things happening: random doesn't work.
I've gone through the Zen Media Explorer, reformated the Zen player, so there were no songs on it.
Went and built a list of 37 songs and uploaded via Zen Media Player to the Zen player.
Went to "Music" and selected "All Tracks"
Set my "System" "Audio Settings" for "random" play.
I had to pick the first song to start it off.
It played the first 5 or so songs correctly.
    Then it stopped.
I used the bottom arrow key to "play" the next song. Then it stopped AGAIN.
Now I'm manually making each song play! This goes on for 4-5 songs, then it starts playing automatically - but repeating the songs it has already played. It does not go near the other 28 or so songs that I have not heard yet!
I go back to "Music" and re-set to "All Tracks"
I go back to "System" "Audio Settings" and re-set to play "random"
And it does this annoying routine all over again.
Went back to "System" "Audio Settings" and picked "normal" this time. So of course, its playing all the same songs I've heard over again.
I have to manually cruise the "All Tracks" to pick what I want to hear.
Can anyone help me with this? I can't stand it anymore.

If you installed any software to work with the mouse, remove it according to the developer's instructions, then restart the computer and test. Back up all data before making any changes.

  • Will pick a song on ipod touch and then it will randomly play another song.  Is there a fix for this?

My daughter's ipod.  I know little about them.
She will select a song to play and then it randomly plays a different song.  Often with the picture for the original song displayed.  We've tried resetting and no better.
Is there anything else we can try?
    Thanks.

  • When I want to randomly play (shuffle) all my songs, it seems that the same songs are being played. I've got over 13,000 songs loaded - it seems to me that I shouldn't be getting any repeats.

I unrated all the songs, thinking this might affect how often a song gets picked to play. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • After loading the new OS now my songs do not play correctly. Titles are wrong on songs and it just doesn't play certain songs in random play or even if you select them individually. What's up? Kind of frustrating!!!

After loading the new OS my songs do not play correctly, is anyone else having this issue? Titles are wrong on songs and it just doesn’t play certain songs in random play or even if you select them individually. What’s up? Kind of frustrating!!!

I had the same issue.  In fact I posted it yesterday, but didn't get any replies.  I physically synched my phone to PC iTunes.  on the PC, under the phone/music tab, I unchecked the synch music box and then the apply button to remove all of the music from my phone.  Then once that synch finished, I went back and selected all music, and synch music and apply to put it back on to the phone.  So far, I haven't had an issue again, but I also haven't listened very long.  Hope this helps!

  • Missing songs in "Random play all&qu

I have a Creative Zen (8GB) with the latest firmware and I just did a fresh reformat, uploaded 566 songs using Winamp (which I can verify in Winamp, 566 mp3s ARE on the player), and if I select random play all on the player it only plays 524 of them. I can put a playlist on the player which contains all 566 songs and they all play fine, but for some reason the random play all button won't load all the songs on the player. Any thoughts? (And no, "don't use winamp" isn't an acceptable answer, thanks).

I have one more problem now. Apparently my Zen 8GB hates certain characters in ID3 tags and replaces them with more friendly characters when files are transferred to it. This causes massi've problems because any playlists that referenced the songs with invalid letters in the tags will no longer contain those songs, and when syncing it causes problems because songs with different tags are obviously seen as different songs (even though they are the same song, one with the tags mangled).
Does anyone know of some software that can remove all the unsupported characters from the ID3 tags in my media library? That would really make life a lot easier, thanks.

  • Updated itouch 4 gen to OS 5. Now it won't play songs

updated itouch 4 gen to OS 5 monday 10/17. Tried to play songs today and it won't. But, when I do try to play music, the "play arrow" appears on top like it is.
But, I really don't want to restore my itouch. HELP PLEASE!

I have resolved my problem by connecting my itouch to the PC and then selecting the device in itunes and then unchecking Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kps AAC. Upon syncing, the files will then re-copy across to the itouch and be playable. It means you use more space on your device but at least you can listen to them. Hopefully the bug will be fixed in due course.

  • Random playing, but keeping certain songs together

Is it possible to have certain songs remain together (like Queen's "We Will Rock You" with "We Are The Champions") when playing in a random order?
iTunes plays songs with a cross fade, can the iPod play the songs the same way?

As Chris said, you can re-rip or join the tracks. You can also assign the same Group field to both tracks and select "Shuffle Groupings" in preferences, though I'm not sure this will carry over to the iPod.

No, there is a little icon next to it that looks like this "!" and it wont play on my ipod but it will play on my library on the computer

That's consistent with all the tickboxes to the left of the tracks (in Song view) being unchecked.
Go into Song view and Ctrl-click one of the empty boxes to do a "global recheck".
If you can't see the tickboxes, head into your General preferences tab and select "Show list tickboxes" as per the following screenshot (it's for an earlier version of iTunes, but the boxes are in roughly the same place in the recent versions 11.x):

  • Ipod 30Gb Video sometimes play songs randomly.

sometimes when I go to get my Ipod, (Which I shut off when I left it) it plays random songs from one of the playlists I have on it. I know I shut the ipod off when I'm done each time, and I put the lock on. I'm the only one with access to it, so no one else is doing this. So when I find it is playing songs that I didnt ask it too. It never does this while I use it.
Anybody Know how to fix it.

nope, no alarms are set, nothing on the calendar either.
but I think the problem solved itself, because it hasn't done that in a while.
