ITouch mail won't work on my home network, works everywhere else.

My 2nd generation itouch's email won't work on my home network. I get a message that says something like "Unable to connect to Pop3 server." It works on other people's home networks, public networks, etc. Just not mine. I'm guessing my router / modem has a setting somewhere that is the problem. Verizon won't help me because it's a device problem, not an internet problem (their opinion). I have read all of the posts on the forum about this mail issue, but since it works everywhere else, I don't think it's an itouch issue. It's a Verizon Westell modem. thanks for any help.

I have had the same problem and just solved it. My home wireless is with ATT and they told me they have been receiving a lot of problems with users suddenly unable to gain access to wi-fi in their home. When we checked my wireless home connection the I.P address on my ITouch was incorrect. The prior IP address was not correct and 'somehow' got corrupted...no one knows how that happened. My cust service rep was excellent and walked me through renaming my wireless hardware as well as changing my channel - and it worked. we changed the name of my wireless modem/router, then changed the channel...to a different number than it was. You are correct in that the problem is with home service. my rep actually took me to an ip address ---numbers not a www address where we made the changes- I hope this helped. If I can be of assistance please let me know.

Now the MacBook Pro only works at home on aHard wire connection. I have an additional 9 devices on the same network, allare functioning properly. The Air connection works fine at any other Networksout side the Home connection. I did a PRAM reset, deleted the Network profileand rebuilt in System Preferences. Still unable to connect wireless on Homenetwork. Any Ideas?

I just got a new itouch 4 and i can't get imessage and facetime to work on my home wifi network (Airport Express). I can't explain it. The itouch works fine otherwise uncluding the internet. Facetime and imessage work at the apple store so there must be something wrong with my home network. Please help if you can!
    iPod touch, iOS 5.0.1

I changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 as you suggested with no success, I even tried 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 as suggested by others with no success either.  When I try and activate iMessage or Facetime, I still get the same message "could not sign in, please check your network connection".  The internet and Mail work perfectly fine on the iPod touch so the WiFi signal IS going through.  I am at a loss, any other suggestions would be more than welcome. Thanks!

  • Macbook won't connect wirelessly on home network

    Hey guys,
I see that a lot of you are having the same issue I am. I have a Macbook that I got the summer of 2008. Up until Thursday, it would connect wirelessly to my E-wire router and network just fine. Then it quit. Later that night, I went up to school for a class, and it connected just fine to the wireless network up there, but will not connect wirelessly to my home network. I have since gotten a new router (Netgear) and reconfigured everything (again), including security and all updates. Airport shows that I am connected to my network, and I can load web pages when I am plugged into the router via ethernet cable (as I am now) but when I try to launch Mozilla or Safari wirelessly, I get the "Server cannot be found" error message.
I am connected to my network, I have tried shutting off Airport and restarting it, as well as quitting my browser and reopening it, and rebooting my Macbook all together. And I also went in and manually entered my IP address, which is what allowed me to connect to the network via ethernet cable in the first place.
Any theories why my Macbook (which is newer) won't connect wirelessly whereas my roommates older Macbook doesn't have any issue connecting wirelessly from right next to me? And I know that it's not an issue of too many people trying to be on the network at once, since it's just the two of us at most, and I'm the only one here right now.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Is your router a model that supports a/b/g/n? If you turn off N will it work? If your N is setup at 40MHz slots it may not work as well. Can you take your wireless router somewhere else for testing? I assume you might have some issue where you are at with your Mac and that router. When you open Apple Menu/About this Mac/More Info../Network/Airport does it show your network there? From a working machine can you see your Mac from your router web interface? FYI if your router was an Apple product(Airport Express or Airport Extreme/Time Capsule) you could see all your wireless clients via the Airport Utility, even signal strength and connection speed...

  • ID and password won't let me into Home Network Defender

When I set up a new install of Home Network Defender two days ago, some of the settings were temporary. This evening I tried to go into HND to revise some settings and the access info that I wrote down when setting it up two days ago won't work. What do I need to do to get into HND to set it up.
I tried "Live Chat" That was much time and lots of restating the issue with finally getting some instructions to uninstall Network Magic Pro, reboot, and reinstall NM. I did. Nothing changed except the clock (more time lost).
I'd sure appreciate some helpful instructions for how to get into HND or how to uninstall it and start over. I can't see HND as an installed application on my computer.
    Router: WRT610N (working great)
    Adapter: WUSB600B (working great)
    o/s: Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    Intalled HND 6/8/09
Installed NM 6/8/09 and again 6/10/09
Tried to add anti-virus 6/8/09 (that seemed to be a non-starter)
    Cheers!

    I have similar problem.
When I tried to login i get following message "HND is registered to a different user account please try again ".
I spent one hour chatting with online support of linksys and got directed to Trend. Yester day I spent one hour with Trend to get "kicked" back to Linksys support.
This time (my third attempt) on phone support with linksys I spent another one hour resetting router WRT610N to factory default and reinstalling the software. Then got transfered to "Tech specialists". I was given an offer to remotely 'try' to fix for "additional cost" or can guide me.
At this time I have two softwares worth for a total of $100 that is not doing its work and I was given an option to fix remotely for 'additional cost". When asked about this to the agent, received a 'curt' reply that it is optional to spend.
Anyway eventually even this guided service did not work after once again reinstalling the software for the second time. I was then directed to "Purenetwork" saying they manufacture Network Magic software and they can reset from the server.
My fourth call with "Purenetwork" costed me another 1 Hour uninstalling the software, resetting the Router. Finally I was told this is a unique problem for which I will get reply once they discuss internally and find an answer. No time lines comitted. After more than 24 hours from my last call, I do not have any answer to my problem.
After seeing this many treads on HDN, I am surprised to see such product amd support from Linksys.
Can any one help me how to reset HDN?

  • My Wi-Fi home network works, but the iPhone cannot connect to the network?

Let me clarify. I have a wifi home network that my laptop connects to and now also my iPhone. They both connect to it just fine and the internet works and everything. I just tried to setup the Remote app but my iPhone won't show up under Devices in iTunes. I know this is a problem with my network because I also tried setting up Home Sharing between my laptop and desktop computer but that won't work either. It's almost as if they're not on the same network because it can't seem to realize other devices are connected, but they are all connected to the same wifi network. My laptop is running windows 7. I have no idea what to do. Can you help please? Thanks!

  • MacBook Air wi-fi doesn't work at home but does everywhere else?

Hello everyone, out of the blue recently my mid-2012 Macbook air started having wifi issues at home.  Everywhere I go except my house the wifi works excellently.  This would lead one to believe my home wifi is at fault, however all of my family's devices (ipad, iphones, pc, etc) connect to and use the wifi just fine throughout the house.
Even more strange is the fact that when I am in close proximity to the router (in the basement)  the wifi works and is fast.  It also works in my kitchen, but strangely does not in the living room 10 feet to the left or in my room upstairs.  If it does rarely work in those areas, it is extremely slow and does not take long before it doesn't work at all.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Just a side note, I updated to OSX mavericks hoping this would solve the issue but it did not.

In an area where your WiFi is not working, try System Preferences > Network > Assist Me > Diagnostics

  • I cant get screen sharing to work on my home network

I am trying to connect my macbook pro to screen sharing so i can access it at my school computers, which are all iMacs running 10.6.6. When i was at school, and connected to the wireless network at my school i could screen sharing through the finder>go>connect to server. Once screen sharing was enabled i just entered the vnc address and it connected flawlessly. When i got home, and i set my netgear router( wireless-n 150 model: wnr100v2) for port forwarding start port: 5900 end port:5900 server name vnc, and set the ip address to my computer, and when i tried to screen share from another macbook within my network through the finder>go>connect to server, i could not connect. Oddly when i connected my mobile me, i cold screen share over the network. I want to do a WAN screen sharing and i cannot figure out how do do it. I would appreciate any help because it is very important that i enable this feature.

I'm a little confused by your explanation (it's late), so I am going to say what I think I read:
You want to set up your home computer so you can access it via screen sharing from school.
The home computer needs sys prefs sharing screen sharing enabled, and sys prefs security firewall must allow it, too. You port forward port 5900 through your home router to that home computer, which may or may not require that you use a static "192.168.x.x" (or "10.x.x.x" -- whatever the router's LAN subnet is) LAN IP address on that computer -- some routers require that computers acting as servers have static IPAs -- some routers don't.
You need to find out what is the public (internet-facing) WAN IP address that your ISP has assigned to your router; it is not the 192.168.x.x (or 10.x.x.x) address given to your home computer by your home router. You can find that by going to http://checkip.dyndns.com on your home computer. Unless you pay extra for a static public IP address from your ISP, ISPs may (and do) change it periodically on you without warning. So vnc://123.45.67.89 may work one day but not the next.
Some routers have a built-in feature to work around this by allowing the router to advise dynamic DNS servers of any changes in the public-facing IP address of the router. Of course, you need to have established an account with a dynamic DNS provider so you have a host name (like lomberg.noip.com or lomberg.dyndns.com). These are generally free accounts unless you want a special name that doesn't have the dynamic DNS provider as part of your host name.
If your router does not have this capability, these dynamic DNS providers have a piece of software that you will need to install on your home computer (the "VNC server") that reports changes in your public-facing IP address to their DNS servers.
Once this is done, then from afar, you can ⌘k to vnc://lomberg.dyndns.com (or whatever you set up your host name to be with dyndns or equivalent outfit) and you don't need to worry about what your ISP has done to you with regards to your public-facing WAN IP address du jour.
Note that with some (most?) routers, when you are on your home network, you will not be able to vnc to the host name or numeric WAN IPA in this manner. I don't know why it doesn't work, it just doesn't. I've had modems both ways -- my current ISP rental modem doesn't while the previous one (which broke so I had to replace it with my current POS modem) did. So in such case, you have to vnc://192.168.x.x of the "vnc server" computer when you are on the same LAN.
You are aware that on the client (school) machine, screen sharing preferences can be set to encrypt all data on the connection, not just the username/password negotiation piece, right? I don't know whether that setting persists across sessions or only persists for the duration of the current session. I wouldn't want my client mouse/keyboard and "server" screen video to be transmitted in the clear; that's why I bring this up.
Does that answer your question? Or did I totally misunderstand what you were asking?

  • My ipod 5 won't connect to my home network

I have an updated iPod 5th generation and for the last three days I've had limited internet access at my home network. It works everywhere else but not at home. It says it's connected but nothing that requires internet will load. I'm the only in the house hold with this problem. Yes, it could connect before. Yes, I've reset my network settings, and forgot the network and reconnected. I don't know what else to do.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Error 0x00000709 Networked printer not working in a home network with HomeGroup enabled.

I should start by describing my network by device.
Gateway device - Motorola SB5120 SURFboard cable modem
Router/WAP device - Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router with 4 port Switch Model: WRT54G v4 Security: WPA2 with firewall.
Windows 7 Ultimate Desktop with Homegroup enabled (Printer driver installed & ethernet wired)
Windows 7 Pro Laptop set to homegroup for the Desktop (Ethernet wired and Wireless depending on the situation)
Windows 7 Home set to homegroup for the Desktop (Wireless)
    Brother Printer Model: HL-2170W (Wireless)
HP Printer Model: HP Officejet 6500A Plus (Wireless)
    What have I done?
Installed drivers on 2 of the 3 computers. The final computer (Win7 Home) was added in later and works fine when connecting to the internet through the WAP. However it does not even find the printer when trying to install the driver which is a part of the
process for driver installation for the Brother Printer.
I had set up the printer for two of the three computers and had it working at one time however in trying to get the printer set up for the final computer I somehow have messed up those settings.
During that setup I tried to move the printer to a networked printer (It was shared before and installed on the network with both the Desktop and the Win7Pro lappy able to print but it would not print for the new arrival to the Homenetwork. This caused
me to seek a solution which involved installing the proper driver in the Win7Home and the discovery that the driver installer could not find the Brother printer at all which prompted the moving of the printer to a networked printer.) (The Win7Home computer does
not find the HP printer either but that is a can of worms yet unopened.)
I am sure there are a few things that I did not do correctly and I may have left out some additional information which you may require. If I can help clarify this question please feel free to query me. I thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

    Hi,
May I know that are these two network printer with network adapter?  If they are installed on the network, you could add them and install the drivers  for Windows 7.

  • Why doesn't Firefox Sync work in my home network, but at work?

Firefox Sync on my laptop does not work when my laptop is connected to my home network, but e.g. if I'm at my office.
The internet connection at my home is fine, I can surf the web with that very Firefox on both IPv4 and IPv6, DNS etc. is also working. Logging in to accounts.firefox.com also works, as does connecting Firefox to the Sync account. Only the process of syncing itself fails. On my desktop computer at home, I have exactly the same problems. When I open https://sync-209-us-west-2.sync.services.mozilla.com/ in a browser tab, I see a confirmation message that sync runs on that server, so apparently the network path between my computer and that server is free.
Upon investigation with Wireshark, I see the successful TLS handshake, then some packets from the client that are not answered and after some time the server closes the connection (Encrypted Alert). Apparently, no content is transferred between client and server. I attach a screenshot of how Wireshark sees the conversation between server and client (The image upload here didn't work so I put it on the web: http://ibin.co/1zXABHKdj5mA).
To exclude a possible misconfiguration or bad add-on, I created a clean new Firefox profile and connected it to my Firefox account, but this shows exactly the same problems.
Fun fact: Firefox on my Android phone does sync in my home network.
Below, I will link two log files, one successful sync (office network) and one failed sync (home network):

  • IChat audio and visual won't connect on my home network, but will on others

    Hi there,
So here's my problem: When I try to connect via audio or video with iChat 5.0.3 it returns and error saying iChat can't connect. Text chatting works just fine. It only does this on my home network; I can take it work and connect to work's network and iChat functions just fine. My wife also has a mac using snow leopard and her iChat doesn't work either. We can connect to each other on our home network and use audio and video chat, but just can't connect to other networks. I'm using ATT&T U-verse and their 2wire modem/wireless router (model 3600hgv) that came with it, along with an airport extreme.
After carefully studying the other posts about iChat, I disconnected the airport and just used the 2wire, modifying the port settings as per the port forward website. I realized that the airport could have been using DHCP in addition to the 2wire, that's why I disconnected it. After doing these things, iChat still doesn't work. I'm not sure where to go from here.
Any help would be VERY much appreciated

    Hi,
    Nice info.
Does the 2WIre device you have include having UPnP ?
Different manufactures put it in different places so it could be anywhere in the set up pages.
If not does it have Port Triggering (Special Applications) ?
You will need to use this as you want to use two computers with the same ports.
This needs a different set up to Port Forwarding.
Alternatively put the 2Wire in DMZ (This opens all the ports to one IP)
List the IP the Airport device gets.
(It would be better yet if the DHCP was turned Off - the Airport would then need to be set up for Static routing (Manually) to keep the same IP)
This is the closet number to your model
    http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/2wire/3800HGV-B/iChat.htm
Did you set all the ports ? (These are the iChat 3 set but cover all the ones iChat 4 and 5 use)
Did you do the bit at the bottom ? (move the items to the right hand list that you want to use - listing both computers at the text field that reads "JoannasDell" (one at a time if it allows two computers by this method)
