ITouch mail...

Anyone using Comcast mail with an iTouch? I can receive email with my unit, but I can't send. Every time I try, it get the following error message...
Cannot send mail. The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.comcast.net" failed.
I can always get my mail by going to "comcast.net", but I would prefer to use the mail program if possible.
I appear to have every thing set right. If anyone else has had this problem and was able to fix it, I would appreciate hearing how you fixed this problem.

Hey Jason,
Using the method in the link you sent me worked like a charm. What I don't understand is that the data I entered was the same and yet, this time it worked. Go figure.
Whatever the problem was, it was NOT my password as I was VERY careful to get that in right.
Anyway, thanks a bunch for the help.

  • Folders unrelated to mail displayed in iTouch mail application

When I connect to my work e-mail account in addition to seeing my normal e-mail folders I get everything that is in my work virtual drive where e-mails are stored. I mean everything, including expansion of all subdirectories. I have to wade through hundreds of files and folders to view my mail folders. Also, because it is looking at these hundreds of folders, it takes forever to 'get mail'.
1.) Is there any way to set up the iTouch mail so that I only see folders specific to the mail program, much like is displayed using any PC mail program?
2.) If not, is there any way to collapse the folders I do see so that I do not have to wade through the entire tree?

A bug report on this has been filed with Apple. Start your new message in Mail then use the Attach button to add attachments.

  • My itouch mail keeps loading old emails and displaying them as unread.  If I delete them it just loads 50 more older ones

My itouch mail keeps loading old emails and displaying them as unread.  If I delete them, 50 more load....old ones that I have long since read and discarded.  Any suggestions.  It appears to be only 1 of my email accounts that does this.  I have deleted the account and resynced to get it back in use, but 50 old emails come up as if they are new unread ones.  Thanks for any help.

I am having the same issue and it started the same day.  My other mac does it as well but has been an issue for two years.  I just gave up on it and stopped using email from that mac.  I just spend 4 days trouble shooting ti myself when i had time and now spent 2 hours with apple on a chat and screen share and they couldnt solve it either.

  • AOL: deleted mail on laptop is not reflected in iTouch mail

My wife will read HER AOL e-mail on her iTouch when she is out at the office. Then later when she is home she will read her AOL e-mail via her MacBook and THEN delete messages from AOL via her main account. Yet, when she updates the mail on her iTouch the list of e-mails visible on the iTouch does not change (sync?) to reflect the deletions that she made on her MacBook. Plus it says she has something like nearly 100 messages to download?!?
I have set-up my sbcglobal account to remove e-mails from their server ONLY when it is downloaded onto my G4 at home - all other remotely accessed e-mail stays on the server until such time as I read those saved e-mails from home and then they are expunged but saved on my computer at home. I assume there is a similar setting for AOL: that is - keep everything on their server but only REMOVE it from their server when it is downloaded at home.
Or is this more of a fundamental set-up issue with the mail account on the iTouch?

You are correct in assuming that you can set the iPod to leave messages on the server. I do it all of the time.
To change the e-mail settings got to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Account Name > Advanced. You will see a setting "Delete from server" option that you can set to what you need.
This is correct as long as you are dealing with a pop account. If AOL mail is imap, then deleting items on the touch results in inbox items being deleted on the server.
Mail syncing on the touch via iTunes does not sync messages, however. Your wife will have to delete messages on her touch after she reads them. The only way around this, at least currently, is to use Apple's Mobile Me system.

  • ITouch Mail Question

How do I create a folder on my iTouch while in email, so I can save the email to a different folder(s)? Or is this possible?

You need to create the folder on your computer first then go into your mail on the touch, this is how i did it for me. Works fine for my .mac account

  • ITouch mail won't work on my home network, works everywhere else.

My 2nd generation itouch's email won't work on my home network. I get a message that says something like "Unable to connect to Pop3 server." It works on other people's home networks, public networks, etc. Just not mine. I'm guessing my router / modem has a setting somewhere that is the problem. Verizon won't help me because it's a device problem, not an internet problem (their opinion). I have read all of the posts on the forum about this mail issue, but since it works everywhere else, I don't think it's an itouch issue. It's a Verizon Westell modem. thanks for any help.

I have had the same problem and just solved it. My home wireless is with ATT and they told me they have been receiving a lot of problems with users suddenly unable to gain access to wi-fi in their home. When we checked my wireless home connection the I.P address on my ITouch was incorrect. The prior IP address was not correct and 'somehow' got corrupted...no one knows how that happened. My cust service rep was excellent and walked me through renaming my wireless hardware as well as changing my channel - and it worked. we changed the name of my wireless modem/router, then changed the channel...to a different number than it was. You are correct in that the problem is with home service. my rep actually took me to an ip address ---numbers not a www address where we made the changes- I hope this helped. If I can be of assistance please let me know.

  • Rotate itouch mail?

I downloaded the new mail app for itouch. Works great, no complaints. However, I noticed that it only shows the email in the "legal" setting. Is there a way to rotate mail so it's shown in "landscape"? Thanks.

Uh no. Not at the moment. You can only view mail in Portrait mode until apple comes out with an update for it, if they do.

  • ITouch mail lockup???

In the 2 month period that I've had my IT, the Mail program has been trouble free UNTIL today. I turned the IT on and noted on the Mail icon that I had 50 messages. First of all, I don't remember seeing a message count before with my IT. The Mail program on my MB shows a red circle with a number in the circle if there are messages and apparently now the IT shows the same info as the MB. I'm wondering if this is something from 2.0 or was it like that before 2.0?
Anyway, I entered the Mail program to delete the messages and all went fine until I came to one that was a chain email (lots of other addressees in the "to" window). This message would not delete when I touched the garbage can AND the IT started acting like it was "locked up." I kept hitting the "home" button without any success. A couple of times I had to hit the "turn off" button. At this point, the mail icon reported I had 1 message (the one that would not delete). After a couple more times trying the garbage can button, a red text box popped up asking if I wanted to delete the email. I pressed it and the message finally went away.
While I was having this trouble, other program icons were very slow to load. I'm wondering what is going on. I have very little need to receive mail with my IT and if its going to act like this in the future, I'm thinking of disabling the Mail program.
Anyone else see something like this with 2.0?

  • How do I unlock my Mail settings?

My 3rd Gen iTouch has the typical Mail app, but I cannot access the Mail settings to delete nor make changes.
The "Accounts" and "Fetch New Data" links are greyed out.
I recently changed Internet service providers, but made a Yahoo account, which I cannot access through the itouch Mail app, but I can access it through the Safari browser.
    Thanks.

Check the Restrictions, in the General preferences, and see if the option to change mail account settings has been disabled.
    Regards.

  • ITouch fails to connect to POP server  STMP server is fine

    The issues is this.
The hosting service has changed email servers and web mail application (something called "Smartermail"). I use the OSX SL with Mail 4.x on the MAC and my iTouch is ver 3.1.2 (using wireless internet).
There have been some minor and not unexpected hiccups in migrating from the old system to the new, nothing catastrophic (yet).
The domain and account settings (addresses, passwords, DNS) have stayed the same. All connections (servers) are of the same domain name so incoming mail (POP) is mail.mydomain.com outgoing mail (STMP) is also mail.mydomain.com, the user name is also the same for both.
I did have to change the SSL to off on both the MAC and iTouch in order to connect to the POP servers. Once that was done receiving mail wasn't a problem.
I did have some issue sending mail with the STMP server but that was solved by changing the port from the typical default(s) to one provided by the hosting service techs. These conditions were originally encountered and addressed on the MAC but as they say the "lessons learned", were applied to the iTouch as well.
This morning, I find I can't connect to the POP server on the iTouch, (message: Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server "mail domainname.com" failed.) However, I can send mail (STMP), download web pages and update weather - stock feeds and the like.
The last thing changed was the STMP port setting, yet I thought I was getting mail (on the itouch) even after the port setting was changed. Is the STMP connection confusing the POP connection? And if so what's the fix? I my be missing the obvious but I didn't see a separate port configuration on the iTouches mail set up.
    Thanks for the help

    More or less solved

  • Setting up Mail for Cox

    Hello all,
Has anyone gotten the mail utility to work with the Cox internet provider? Seems as if I'm having problems sending mail. One issue could be is that cox does not require authentication for sending outgoing mail, while the itouch mail setup does not have an option for no authentication.
If anyone has gotten mail to work properly with cox, your settings used would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you on your own WIFI network using Cox? Or are you on another ISPs network?
Cox does not allow mail being sent from outside it's network. So if you are not on your home WIFI network, you will not be able to send mail. You can still access your webmail for Cox and send when you are on another network.
The reason they do this is to try to avoid SPAM from their servers.
You can read more about this from Cox.net's support website.

  • Gmail password changed

I changed my Gmail password on my home PC, and now the iTouch Mail app won't allow me to access email (which is Gmail).  How can I synch this up?  Thanks!

You ned to go to Settings>Mail...>the Gmail account and change the password.

  • How do you 'unsynch' your mail if your Itouch is stolen?

My IPod touch was just stolen and I don't know what to do about the mail app.  I don't want the thieves to have access to my mail.  I did delete my FB app through Itunes...will that disable it on the Itouch as well?

Mail is not synced at all.  It is retrieved from the server as it is with your computer.
You need to change your passwords.

  • Setting up "Mail" on iTouch (new update)

I downloaded the new update along with the new widgets etc. However when i go to "Mail" I only get Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Mac mail, and AOL mail. Could anyone please explain to me how to setup the mail for hotmail? I am having some troubles setting it up. For example, under the setting "Incoming Mail Server" the Host Name, User Name and Password, how do i fill these up? And the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" How do I fill the heading of those out? Seems kind of ignorant adding so many e-mails but not hotmail even though it's one of the most popular emails around. Anyways any help will be appreciated. Thanks
    Nik

    POP3 Server: pop3.live.com (port 995)
    SMTP Server: smtp.live.com (port 25)
Note: Make sure to mark the box that indicates that your "outgoing server requires authentication" since in most email clients, this is not checked by default.
Username: Your full email address (including @hotmail.com or @msn.com)
Password: Your Windows Live ID password
Important: Our POP3 service requires that you use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) with the POP and SMTP connection and use SMTP authentication.
This got the system working on my itouch after upgrading to a live plus account. However I cannot choose which emails to retrieve and it;'s only showing me emails from 2007. If anyone can assist I'd appreciate it.
