ITouch music playlist not keeping order

Have an older iTouch that I use as a music player. I have a playlist of 50 songs and when I set it up on iTunes and transfer it to the iTouch the order is not maintained..
In fact when I disconnect the iTouch and look at the order it's doesn't seem to be in any particular order. Certainly not the order that I want.
Help appreciated.

I couldn't agree more. I, too, have been an Apple/Mac user from the beginning. This seemed like such an elementary issue that I was convinced I was missing something simple. Evidently not, based on your experience and the response I got from tech support. I encourage you to report this issue in "feedback" http://www.apple.com/feedback/ and maybe Apple will fix it in a software update.
For now, ATV is almost unusuable for streaming live album playlists with "intro" tracks. Moreover, studio album track order on ATV does not correspond with that intended by the album producer which, in itself, denegrates the artistic experience.

  • Why does my shuffle 3rd gen. play music playlist in backwards order? And how would I correct this?

Hey, my iPod Shuffle was playing the music playlist I had imported through itunes from my mac fine and in perfect order until about 2 weeks ago. However for the last 2 weeks (there or thereabouts) it has played the playlist I on my shuffle in backwards order when I use the "Play in order" setting on my iPod. over this period I have tried everything short of going into apple to see what can be done incase im being stupid and have overlooked something. So far I have reset the unit independently wihtout the use of my mac (no effect), I have restored and re-imported the playlist I was using (no effect), I have imported an alternative playlist in case it was the playlist somehow (no effect), I have even uninstalled/re-installed iTunes on my mac and restored my Shuffle on the re-installed iTunes, also with no effect. The "shuffle" setting works fine and has no issue however and therefore makes me think it is some sort of hardware fault but as there been no physical damage to the unit nor has it undergone any form extreme treatment or been exposed to wildly varying temperatures I cant even think its cause is due to anything physical as nothing has happened to it...... I am stumped to say the least.... If anyone has experienced this also and cured their hardware could they please help?

it's a question how your itunes settings are
    in preferences ->advanced
uncheck the copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library
then when ever you add media to your itunes lib you just add a link and the media stay where it is

  • Deleted Purchased Music Playlist (not music)

I accidentally deleted the "Purchased" playlist which is a default list under Music Store. The songs are there...just the (green) playlist is gone. How do I get it back?

I copied this hint from a post of an Apple employee a while ago.
    It said:
Could you try turning on the Shopping Cart for me?
    1. Open iTunes.
    2. From the iTunes menu, select Preferences.
    3. In the Preferences window, select the green Store icon.
    4. In the Store pane, click the radio button labeled Buy Using a Shopping Cart.
Let me know if this makes the Purchased Music playlist reappear.
If this doesn't do the trick, the playlist should re-appear on your next purchase.
Or, in the meantime, make a Smart Playlist with the rule:
    Kind - contains - protected
This will put all your purchases in that playlist.
    Hope this helps.

  • Shuffle playlist but keep order?

I'm using iTunes to deliver stimuli for an experiment. There are 36 aural examples that subjects will listen to, and I've got them in a playlist in iTunes.
I want iTunes to randomly shuffle them. I know how to do this. That's not the problem.
There needs to be a pause between each track -- that is, the playlist can't automatically go on to the next track; the experimenter needs to click on the next audio example to begin it. This is also not a problem. I know how to do this too.
The problem is that when iTunes generates a random order for the stimuli and plays the first example, and then stops, when I click on the second example in the playlist iTunes reshuffles the entire playlist.
How can I get iTunes to shuffle the playlist once but not re-shuffle it when I click on the next audio example?
I'm running iTunes 5 on OS 10.4.11. I know that's an old version, but it's an old computer I dug up to run the experiment with and I don't have the resources to update the OS right now.

I guess what I meant was I was looking for the way to
do this that would result in the highest performance
as this is a common recurring query.....
What I was initially thinking of doing was maintaining
2 Lists - one of which would be a shortened version
with just the 'compound index fields' and it's index
position in the Full List. I would then propose
sorting the short list once all data has been read,
then scanning through it for 'duplicates' and only
updating the Full List with any necessay changes. This is awfully complex. And if, as you say, the duplicates are infrequent, then it's not going to be very efficient. It's generally best to touch data as few times as possible, and since you're touching it once when you read it, that's a good time to do the dup check.
I'd prefer not to define an object to be an
abstraction of each row since only the index
columns(mainly) remain constant. I'm assuming that you're going to actually use this data in your program, right? In that case why wouldn't you want an object to hold it? Otherwise you'll get into a situation where you have absolute indexes throughout your code.
If, for some reason you don't care about the actual columns (maybe this is for a reporting tool?), then define an object that knows about the key columns and holds the rest as an ArrayList.

  • Playlists not retaining order

My playlists are not retaining their order when being synced with iTunes Match. Is there a fix to this?

I have several playlists just for working out, sorted ascending on BPM.  But that order goes out the window with my new iTunes Match account (which I otherwise LOVE).  I need the playlist to stay in the order I put them on my Mac, since I have no useful way to sort them on my iPhone or iPad.  What can I do?  It seems others have been having this type of problem for a while.  Does anyone have any info/suggestions?  Thanks!

  • All music / playlist not synching

Hi, I have a macbook and iphone 4s.  All software is up to date, thought I am not currently at home so I can't give the versions.
Just synched my phone this morning to add a newly created playlist.  When I started listening, I noticed only 2 of the 10 or so playlist I usually use were on my phone.  Additionally, the sunch took all the songs but 80 off the phone.
Any ideas as to what is causing this? Any suggestions for a solution?
    Thank you in advance.

Could this be a firewall issue? I am using VirusBarrier rather than Apple's firewall, and I presume port 3689 is open by default since I can stream from iTunes on an iMac to ATV2 and Airport Express. But could the firewall be inhibiting connection, slowing the chatter between ATV and iTunes libraries?

  • Purchased Music Playlist Not Visible

I can access the music I purchased, but the playlist seems nameless and I can't seem to edit it.Can anyone help me with this.

You should be able to just click or double click the playlist and wait a second. After waiting a second, the cursor should appear in there so you can type in "Purchased Music" or any other name you'd like...

  • IOS 5 sync with iTunes not keeping playlist sort

Anyone else have the problem of iTunes playlists not keeping their sort when sync'ed to iOS 5(iPhone 4)?

    Fixed, sort of!
I'm having the exact same issue with iTunes 10.5, iOS 5 on an iPhone 4S.  My regular (not smart) playlist was sorted by "Date Added" newest on top, and in my phone it seemed to be sorted by "Date Added" oldest on top (which is silly because I want to play my new music more often than my old music...)
Anyway, on a whim, I tried sorting my iTunes playlist by "Plays" and synced and it WORKED (properly sorted by "Plays" on my iPhone).  Thinking I had fixed the issue, I again sorted by "Date Added" newest on top, and synced, and the iPhone reverted to "Date Added" oldest on top...
Thinking it might be just the "Date Added" column sorting that's F'd, I sorted by "Name," and synced and it WORKED (properly sorted by "Name" on my iPhone).
Not wanting to test each column, I decided to leave it sorted by "Plays," least on top, which is similar to "Date Added" newest on top, but not exactly.  It'll have to do until Apple fixes this issue.
Conclusion: At least the "Date Added" column sorting in iTunes is completely disregarded on the iPhone, choose another sort column for now

Since i upgraded my iphone 4s to iOS 6.0, i can no longer watch or view my Movies or Video's in my Music Playlist. I can still view them in my Videos which is not in orderly manner or arragement like i wanted unlike in the Playlist. There is some sort of restrictions i guess. I already checked the Allow All Movies but still the videos does'nt appear. What should I do?
    Please HELP ME.
    Thank you very much.

Similar problem here. My Ical refuses to edit or delete events. Viewing is possible, though sometimes the whole screen turns grey. Adding new events from mail is still possible. The task-pane completely disappeared. My local apple technic-centre messed about with disk utility for a bit and than told me to reinstall leopard. I could of course do that, but it seems to me that reinstalling Leopard just to fix iCal events is a bit invasive.
I tried also tried removing everything, installing a new copy of iCal from the leopard-cd, software updates, all to no avail.
At the moment I'm open to all suggestions that do not include a complete leopard reinstall.

  • Music playlists do not play in order

Music playlists do not play in order. How do turn off that function and get playlists to play in order?

In the Music app in iOS6, white is still off, but on is orange, for both the shuffle function and the repeat function.  As before, the repeat widget is a three-state toggle, with two on states - a plain racetrack for repeating the album or playlist, or a racetrack with a smaller circle containing a "1" superimposed on it for repeating a single track.
I don't know what happens if both suffle and repeat are on, maybe it creates a hole in space-time.
By the way, I tapped on the artwork many times before the additional song controls appeared.

  • I have iTunes ver 10 on a PC with Playlists which do not sync to ITouch or Nano (6th Gen). All the music does not appear and the playlists do not appear at all. I have selected to manually manage music on the sum tab

I have iTunes ver 10 on a PC with Playlists which do not sync to an Itouch or Nano (6th Gen). Also, all the music does not appear when I check entire library and there is enough memory on the device. When I select to manually manage music on the summary tab and selected playlists on the music tab nothing changes. Either way all the music isn't on either device and the playlists are not on either device. Please advise next steps. Thank you.

Connect the device to the computer.
In iTunes, select the content desired to sync.
    Sync.
This is all described in the User's Guide, reading it may be a good place to start.

  • How can i organise my tunes in order of ***most recently added to playlist***. Playlist, NOT library!

    Hi everyone,
this is my first ever post on a dicusion board so lets see...
i would like to know how to, if it is possible... to organise my songs of a playlist to show my most recently added songs (to my playlist, not library) at the top and so on.
all of my music has been on the mac for a while so it orders is on date added to LIRBRARY and not when i added it to my playlist.
i want to see my recently added songs of my playlist first.
is this possible and if so can someone help me please!
    Thanks
    Mez

    Hi Mez,
Are you talking about a regular playlist, not a smart playlist?
If you drag a song to playlist to add it, the song will be added at the end of the list.
So to reverse the order and have the most recently added song first, just select the playlist and display it in list view. Click the triangle in the header row of the leftmost column showing the numbers and revert the play order.
    have fun

  • Music playlist track order... iTunes vs ATV 2nd Gen

Streaming music from my iTunes Library to new 2nd Gen AppleTV: When I attempt to listen to a music playlist from my iTunes library through AppleTV, the track order within the ATV playlist does not match that of the playlist in my iTunes library. The songs within the ATV playlists are always sorted alphabeticaly by song title and do not match the sorting of playlists in my iTunes library.
I contacted an Express Lane advisor about this, case number 186510612, and was politely advised that there's apparently no solution. The advisor recommended that I submit feedback (which I did).
Track order on a music playlist is very important for several reasons. Any suggestions?

I couldn't agree more. I, too, have been an Apple/Mac user from the beginning. This seemed like such an elementary issue that I was convinced I was missing something simple. • Moved my music - playlists now not working

    Dear All,
I've just gone through a fraught time during which I've cloned my system, got rid of HD partitions, and restored my cloned OS. One reason for doing this was to shift all my music from an external HD to my Mini.
However, being an inconsistent (and in hindsight, rather stupid) human, I think I buggered around with the iTunes library files (ie Trashed them) before copying the music over.
In a second attempt, though, I think I must have put some of them back in place, because iTunes has now remembered my playlists, of which I have quite a few.
The music in my library is fine: everything seems to be in place, referenced correctly, and plays.
Unfortunately, the same can't be said for my playlists, every track in which is not located, showing an exclamation mark, offering the option to locate each track manually.
Is there a way to 'bless' the music in my playlists automatically, or am I now in the position of making them all again by hand?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi,
Thanks for the response, and for what seems to be a good workflow, which I'd love to have tried.
I wish I still had the clone to work from, but because the whole clone/restore fiasco cost me five or six days of brain-fry, I think I was just glad to see the end of it! A classic case for some Schadenfreude...
So, I fell at the first hurdle in your advice, and being as I couldn't be sure which copy of the .xml file I had, I didn't continue with the rebuild.
So I used two methods together:
I had managed to save most of my playlists as .xml files within my personal data folder (missing a couple, and a few out of date compared with changes I'd made to the original files - genre changes, for instance), but I wasn't sure the new location of the files would affect the import, or not, and not all playlists had been saved.
Hence the need for the second approach: print playlists, sorted by album for shuffled playlists, or in order, where appropriate.
This helped maintain the order of the tracks in ordered playlists, so that when adding the missing tracks back, they could be placed in the right order. The paper version was compared against the re-imported version, and missing tracks were then added back in. Of course, saving and overwriting the exported playlists was the final step.
Some artwork has gone missing along the way, but all in all, it's going to be about four hours work - not too bad, considering how bad it might have been.
As a final rub of salt in the wound, and confirming the fact that these things come in threes, I've also got a 42404 error in iTunes, which stops me playing my iTunes Store purchases. I'm now backing up my whole library to disc (all fourteen DVDs of it!), before uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and checking QuickTime version...
Wish me luck & thanks again - glad somebody got some good help from it - good links to Doug's scripts.
