it's a shame progress causes the loss of functionality... you can no longer navigate without looking at your ipod.
yeah the screen is nice but i'm quite active and i don't want to pull the ipod out everytime i adjust the volume or fast-forward/skip songs.

Buy another iPod then.
What will people complain about next.

The whole point of the iPod Touch is it's touch screen. There are other iPods that still have the clickwheel so if that's important to you, buy those.

Changing itunes account on used itouch

My wife got an iphone. She gave me her itouch. We have different laptops and different itunes accounts. I can NOT synch my itunes because the device still only recognizes her laptop and itunes account. The itouch will not show up in my itunes navigation pane and therefore will not synch. HELP????

What spec does a GPS transmitter need to be to work with iTouch?

I want to use the BT capability of my 4th Gen Touch to connect to a GPS transmitter. What spec should it have, or can anyone tell me of one which works so I can use it for navigation? My rubbish phone can find the Bluetooth of a GPS receiver I bought, but as far as the iTouch is concerned there's nothing there.

In PS you could go up to (I believe) Image and select pixel aspect ratio and set to 1.0 and see how that works.

Can Itouch be charged and fully functional with Pioneer AVIC-Z3 auto stereo

I am considering getting the Pioneer AVIC-Z3 navigation/stereo Head in my car. I am told that the Pioneer unit will not charge an Itouch that has higher than version 1.15 because of charging voltages/pin changes. I was also told that a Scosche Passport will not solve this problem with the Pioneer systems.
1- Pioneer reps told me that if my Itouch has version 1.15 it will charge and have full functionality with the Pioneer Z3 as that was when the Z3 was designed for. My Itouch has version 2.2 I believe. Can I "downdate" to version 1.15 and how?
Anyone have any experience and advice with this matter. This may be a deal breaker.

Pioneer reps told me that if my Itouch has version 1.15
It's NOT the software version you are running that counts! First generation touches support both FireWire and USB charging; Second generation touches charge only with USB.
The allowable FireWire voltage range is something like 8 volts to 36 volts so auto charger manufactures didn't have to do anything to use the 12 volts a car has.
Second generation touch charging support requires the manufacturers add a regulated power supply to furnish the USB 5.0 volts.

Click on the name to select it and see the device’s Summary page. Click "Check for Updates" on the Summary page. If there is an update for your device, iTunes normally notifies you.

Itouch Shakes

HI - and thanks for any assistance out there.
I have an ancient 1st gen iTouch. I didn't know that the first gen has the shake and shuffle feature - which I DO NOT like. I didn't think it had this feature on the initial iTouch.
I like to listen to podcasts but if I twist or shake it inadvertently it shifts to another podcast in the library. Is there a way to prevent that from happening? I don't see a way to do it in the iTouch settings.
I'm thinking of getting a new iTouch - advantages voice recorder, external speaker, external volume control and apparently you can shut off shake and shuffle. Does the new iTouch also have an external control letting you advance or go back in time increments ( shifting a minute ahead or a minute back for example - very nice for podcasts ) ?
I use my iTouch a lot outdoors - walking jogging - and external controls are lot better than stopping and getting the iTouch focused to the right screen to slide the bar back and forth to access a certain time segment in a podcast - not to mention the sun glare on the screen when navigating on the touch screen outdoors.
If there are other mp3 players better suited to podcasts ( with a voice recorder and external speaker ) and works with iTunes ? I'd appreciate your suggestions.

I don't podcast much, so I don't know if there's a better device for them.

When I turn my iTouch sideways nothing happens....

I have noticed about 2 or 3 days ago that when I turn my iTouch sideways when listening music or navigating in Safari nothing happens. It just doesn´t go into the horizontal mode anymnore. I have tried to restore the system and reinstall the 2.0.2 software but still the same... Otherwise the machine works perfectly. What can I do ?

I've also been having the same problem. Sometimes it doesn't turn at all and sometimes I literally have to turn it sideways and keep it sideways for 3 minutes before it turns (when it's supposed to turn in a second or two). Is there are specific reason for this? I tried looking everywhere for the answer but couldn't find one. If apple support can find a solution to this problem, please do!

You should still use Image Capture IMHO. If it was my gear, that's what I would do. No need to worry about software upgrades.

hi philly, thanks for getting back to me, especially on such a busy day.
I don't think that's quite the issue though. I bought an album and it appears in 'my purchases' within the itunes app. Yet, in order to listen to the music, i must use the 'music' app and in this application, there are only three tracks displayed at any one time from my downloaded album.
I can 'download all' from the 'my purchases' section but that still doesn't help, it just keeps the last three tracks downloaded in the music app.
I have the 'icloud' enabled and wondered if it had anything to do with that.
i have successfully downloaded another full album totally into the music app, but this first album is causing me problems.

We've been using the same Apple Id in the family. Can I change the ID so each person has their own so we don't end up with each other's data? How would I do that without losing what is on the Itouch now?

My family has the same Apple ID, which is a problem when we don't have the same data on our products. Can we have separate Apple IDs for each person? If so, how can we change it and not lose what we currently have stored on our Ipod Touch/Ipod/Iphone? I just restored my son'e Itouch and it has Cloud. Will he delete my husband's contacts (from his Iphone) if my son deletes contacts on the Ipod Touch?

I'm getting the following error when I click on a view in the navigator pane:
An error was encountered performing the requested operation:
ORA-01427: single-row subquery returns more than one row 01427. 00000 - "single-row subquery returns more than one row"I'm not seeing any errors in the shell window.
After clicking on <OK> in the error dialog, the normal tabs (Columns, Data, Grants, Dependencies, Details, SQL) are displayed, but there is no content in the Columns tab.
All the other tabs seem to function normally.

Ok, I think I found the problem. The view in question (SUBSCRIPTIONS) is owned by 'PHILC' and it references a table named 'SUBSCRIPTIONS' owned by 'CSBCROSSWORLDS'. There are two other development schemas that also own tables named 'SUBSCRIPTIONS'.
I believe the 'Columns' tab is executing the query below. The subquery in this SQL tries to identify the primary key columns for the 'SUBSCRIPTIONS' view in my schema (PHILC):

ITouch Firmware Upgrade - Can no longer connect to car audio system

I just upgraded to 3.1.1 last night on my iTouch and can no loger plug in and connect to the audio system on my Infiniti G35x. The iTouch shows that it is connected by the audio system shows that it isn't. I've checked the cables, etc and all is fine and can connect another iPod without any issues. Thoughts...?

This is a known issue that started with the 3.0 release, and it affects several auto manufacturers. I was hoping that 3.1.1 would fix this for my Honda, but no dice. Something changed either in the communication protocol or timing, but whose fault it is seems to depend on how many Apple products you own
You can step back down to the 2.x firmware ... search around for "DFU mode", I did it once and may do it again now that 3.1.1 doesn't solve this.

Can no longer connect to internet on my iTouch

I have had my iTouch for just over a year and had no problems connecting to the internet at home and elsewhere. I had to purchase a new router recently and now my Touch no longer connects. It finds the network with no problem but when I enter my password it still says "unable to join the network..." It works everywhere else just fine and my laptop at home connects to my wi-fi with no problem as well. I have tried to input my network under "Other networks" with no success either. My settings and password are the same as before but it still won't connect. Has anyone else had this problem and any ideas on how to fix it? I went to the Apple store and they said they had no idea why it no longer connects. Thanks for any help you can send me.

Are you running WEP encryption? Chances are the new router interprets your password in a form that the touch can't deal with. You can either using the hex code in place of the password you created or reset your encryption to WPA2-psk and create a new 10-12 character password.
If you don't want to change encryption, you can reconfigure your WEP passwords - 5 characters only with 48bit or 13 characters only with 128 bit.

Error message when connecting iTouch (after Windows 7 update)

I first had a Windows 7 (998 error) and uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes a couple times until I got it up and running along with QuickTime working as well.
When I go to try and sync my iTouch it is saying "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes." I have actually done this twice and it is still not working.
Please help!! I would really like to use my iPod again.

This solution allowed the itouch to communicate with itunes and then instantly recognised that it needed to be updated to software version 4.1. All's good so thanks for this
